[Q] Rooted ME7 SafeStrap Won't Boot to Recovery - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

I've been searching my newbie butt off for this answer but can't find it. Just got a new Verizon SG4, got root successfully, installed SafeStrap successfully, but can't get it to reboot to recovery. It simply reboots the phone. SafeStrap is showing "Recovery State: Installed". When I press "Reboot to Recovery" it takes superuser and looks like it's going there, but then simply goes through the standard restart script. What am I doing wrong here?

After installing the apk did you open the app and install recovery? Never used it myself but I did read the thread and install instructions.
Hit thanks if I helped you out. Doing a little bit of reading goes a long way. Sent via tapatalk.

Yes, per my post, SafeStrap is showing Recovery State: Installed. So I believe I was able to successfully install recovery.

Rooted, had superuser access then lost it?

Rooted last night, superuser was working fine but this morning I lost all superuser access. Uninstalled SU and reinstalled it. Rom manager gained access but others won't. Now even when I try to flash CWM recovery it says "an error occurred while attempting to run privileged commands!". Any ideas?
you might have to look in this thread, and get the working SU that way

Thanks, I was reading over that a few minutes ago. I'll give it a try
Tried to flash that patch but I can't boot into recovery. It boots into the bootloader, I select recovery and it just goes back to the white bootloader screen. Am I missing something?
since su works with rom manager, press menu and clear cache and try to push clockwork back on your phone. also there is a option to wipe clockwork mod everytiem you update it. alot of people have success with that.

I did that, rebooted like 10 times trying to get into recovery and for some reason I know have su permissions again.... I dunno what happened.
But how do I get into cwm to install rom's and backup/restore? I keep getting the white bootloader screen for some reason.
Sorry, double post....

there is an option in rom manager to boot into clockwork recovery, but i edited my last post.. maybe you need to push clockwork again if it isnt going into recovery the manual way, might not be loading the files properly

Seems like something might have gotten messed up. Now I lost all su permissions again. lol. I probably should unroot and do the process over again. I've tried the option in rom manager but it takes me to the bootloader screen and when I select recovery it just takes me right back.
I also had this same exact problem. The reason was I had messed something up during the root process. What happened to me is I switched the RUU's around and ended up with the wrong one. My opinion would be to re-root using the original ADB method and make sure you are using the correct RUU. If you need assistance just PM me and I will guide you step through step to re-rooting your T-Bolt.

I thought for sure I used the right RUU files but it was late so I could have messed up. I would appreciate any help, I used the windows one click method. Not too familar with ADB but I have played with it a lil. PM me when ever you get a chance. Thanks bro.
Mad props to stedrocklp for all the help last night. The help that people give on this site is why it's the best.

[VIDEO] Install TWRP 2.0 on the HP Touchpad

This video demonstrates how to install Team Win Recovery Project 2.0 or TWRP 2.0 and also how to remove ClockWork Recovery.
This video also describes how to remove ClockWork Recovery if you chose to do so.
Thanks for this, I will be doing dual boot soon and this seems like the better option that I was not aware of before this video.

I make these videos because I know how frustrating it is when there is a list of steps to take, but you are so uncertain if you are doing it right. I think people are much more comfortable SEEING someone actually perform the steps. Guides are good, but demonstrations are much better.

Reverend, I just wanted to thank you for all your excellent video How-To's.
I have a question and maybe others can chime in here.
When I originally installed CM9 I never did get a CWM Recovery. I recently updated to latest CM9 Nightly and I installed TWRP.
My question is, can I install CWM Recovery as well and how do I go about it?

confused rooting my phone

I have the HTC Rezound with the recently released O.T.A. ICS from Verizon. My objective is to root the phone and kill all of the B.S. bloatware that Verizon feels they must add to the phone. I have posted before to ask how to do this and everyone says root the phone and kill the apk files or alternatively Root the phone and download Rom Toolbox then kill it from there. I have gone through and followed the "[GUIDE] Super-noob guide to unlocking, rooting, and flashing Ziggys kernel" to the 'T' up until its time to load the Kernel. I do not want to change the Kernel so my qquestion is:
If i have gone through the process of rooting my phone it should be rooted at this point. However when I run Root Check Basic it tells me "Sorry this device does not have proper root access." I do not understand why. In order to get full root access am i going to have to continue with installing the Kernel.
Is there anybody who could help me. I am missing.

First, wrong section. But to help out... Do you have recovery? If you do just download the newest supersu zip file and flash it in recovery.. google search for it. Good luck. I hope you don't get flamed too much

1. Wrong section. Please post things like this in the general or q&a sections, not flaming, just telling you for future references.
2. If your device has an unlocked bootloader, flash amon ra recovery or twrp and go to the dev menu and it will say something like give Su permissions or root or whatever, just click that.
3. Profit.
4. You're welcome.
To root you should download the latest version of SuperSU zip file, and flash it with anon RA recovery.

This is a great community.
You do not need to root your phone to get rid of the bloatware, you can keep your phone stock unrooted and debloat it yourself and not have to worry about flashing anything. To disable go to menu>apps and after clicking an app you see the choice of disabling.
SuperSU not working
I don't know why i cant get this to work. I have flashed the amon recovery to my phone. Followed these steps:
1)Flash AmonRa Recovery.
2) Boot into AmonRa Recovery.
3) Scroll to and enter the Developer menu.
4) Scroll to install Su. DO NOT INSTALL THE ENG (Unguarded) one. Use the other one.
5) Confirm this, when it is finished, go ahead and reboot. You should be rooted.
Downloaded the SuperSU from google play and select install. after a few minutes it comes back and says the SU binert needs updated, I select continue. then after about a minute it says installation failed.
What am i missing? I have followed everything to e "t" I don't get it
More help please.

Flash in recovery. If you have already flashed a custom recovery(amon ra) then pull your battery, hold out for 3 seconds, insert battery, hold vol down and power at same time til bootloader boots, select recovery, select flash zip menu, select sdcard(assuming you placed flashed zip on external sdcard), select file, press power to confirm, reboot when done. Now you should be rooted.

Clockworkmod not installing correctly

Hello all,
Sorry if I am asking a silly question that has been answered before (I have searched for answers but not found what I am looking for).
I have tried to install clockworkmod through Odin. I followed the Ultimate Noobs guide to the letter and although Odin shows a Pass, I don't get any install text on my S3, and when it reboots it just goes straight back to Android. If I then boot to whichever options screen it is, I believe it is just the basic Android one as opposed to the CWM one. I'm not showing any icons for superuser or CWM in my apps screen either.
I am a noob at this as I have come from an iPhone, but any help, or pointing me to a previously helpful post would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!!

Did you miss this part of the guide?
- NOTE: Sometimes the device does *not* boot into recovery mode and root your device. Just do the entire procedure again if this happens. If it still will not install root and such, make sure that in Odin "Auto Reboot" is not checked. Then after flashing, pull the battery, and boot with VolUp+Home+Power button to boot into recovery manually. This will start the install process.

A Fool Like Me

I think I just bricked my phone, or at least softbricked it.
Please help.
Here's what I did:
1. I rooted it using saferoot. Not a problem. Worked just fine. I'm on 4.3 Official ROM (currently).
2. I followed TeamWin's instructions to try to install their bootloader:
"Install the app and open it. Tap menu then hit Install OpenRecoveryScript. Tap Yes. Verify that the filename displays your device's code name and hit Yes. The file will download and your device will install the recovery automatically."
3. My phone then rebooted into ODIN and I've tried rebooting it normally, and it says in read at the top: "Could not do normal boot"
Odin Mode.
Please advise. I know I likely sound like a complete moron (and likely am), but I'd be most grateful to anyone who can help me recover functionality to my phone.
Thank you.

If your S4 came with 4.3, then you don't have the MDK bootloader which means you cannot install any custom recoveries.
See this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2578569
To restore your phone to a usable stock 4.3 you'll need to download the full-wipe image and flash it with Odin: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2578209

Thank you both for your replies. I sincerely appreciate any reply from anyone on these forums. It was odd, but in an hour or so of leaving my phone alone with the battery out, I inserted the battery back in, and it started right up with no issues. I then executed a successful SafeStrap root. I really appreciate your information, and it has been illuminating. Much thanks.:good:
