I loved the unmodified AOKP ROM on my I9000 and was very disappointed that none existed for the I9100. Definitely gonna try this
i would be very interested in what the battery life is like with this ROM, i am really struggling with battery on all rom's at the moment, i wish i could find the perfect settings UV/OC Etc..... I am terrible when it comes to under vaulting etc, i can never get the right blend for stable battery, i will keep an eye on this thread.
thanks
Do you cherry pick fixes from cm9? Such as notification volume fix?
Good news to hear that you work on aokp based rom, will have a try later.
And one more question, will you continue to develop on Pure ICS rom
OMG . YOU SIR YOU .!!! have made my dream come true .!!

I owe u man.. Great work done... I was wondering wy they aint supporting I9100 International edition..Leave until DEVs support, this LEGEND lives LONG LONG LONG!!!! BTW I couldnt try because of lockscreen vibes.. I keep using my phone so i dont like that... Can anyone make a switch toggle would be good
Awesome to see more people feeding our AOKP-hungry devices :victory:
I'm wondering a little about the differences between this and Pier's vanilla builds (which i'm currently using). I don't actually know if he also deodexes and zipaligns his releases, but apart from that it will only be the cherry picks, right?

I've searched both the AOKP Site and the AOKP Team forum section of Rootzwiki, but I couldn't find anything mentioning official support for our I9100, and neither were there a device thread for it
Are you about to be official device-tree maintainer, or will these builds also be "unofficial" like Pier's?
I'll definitely try this out, and return with a little feedback
Are u going to work for Jelly Bean as well?

Vibration is broken, often reduces/increases. If not the one I always wanted a bloat free AOKP

Seems like there's a lot of confusion in here, let me clear some doubts in here..
There's no official Support from AOKP for Galaxy S2 (I9100 international version), since none of the devs in AOKP own that device. But of course, that doesn't stop us from building from it . There are a lot of AOKP roms for I9100 and all of them are somehow modified in their own way. Resurrection Remix, Hydra, Xtreme etc.. have their own modifications done. On the other hand, there are some "pure" "vanilla" aokp roms out there. Pier's builds are straight from AOKP with some CM changes, but this does have it's disadvantages because, not all CM fixes/features are committed by AOKP. But Pier is doing an excellent job at keeping it as AOKP as he can. RootBOX, is also another "pure" AOKP because there isnt any modifications done to it except for the Lockscreen waves. The only difference between RootBOX and Pier's builds, is that I apply a lot of fixes and essential features from CM even though AOKP team doesn't apply them.(It's called cherry-picking) I also implemented Aroma, which actually gives you the option to add more features to the rom or simply keep it pure.

There's no official support, you're right on that. But you just introduced another Vanilla build when Pier is already doing the same thing. Just my opinion, don't take it offensively..

I would say Full Wipe, as this is an Aosp build.
Cheers, and thanks to Spike for the build.
Hi,
I have hard times to decide which ROM should I run. Both are great and amazing. So I need some help from both CM and Paranoid users.
What I look forward are: A better battery life and fast-stable operating.
Thanks in advance!
You're posting to wrong section.
But I prefer CyanogenMod

Paranoid Android has more UI choices from normal to hybrid. Really good and stable ROM. Cyanogen will are the main source. You have any problems its them that fix it not Paranoid. I'm on Cyanogen now. Was on Paranoid and enjoyed it. I'd rather stability than anything else.
Please read the rules about posting in the correct sections.

This one I did not closed because the OP is asking about a comparison between two specific roms not asking a general "which rom is best". I feel this thread is ok and tolerable. lol
only thing i dont like about cyanogen is that you cant have a brightness slider, i use paranoid but a recommendation i could make is install the latest siyah kernel then run one as a first rom and the other as second rom and give them both a try i do it for omega stock touchwiz and pa very useful :3

How do you mean by "run as first rom and the other as second"?
He means dual boot, see siyah kernel thread. But quite odd to dual boot with two non Sammy (or 2 Sammy) roms
More logical to use paranoid as it's cm based with more features.
Newb question here:
But, what's the difference between CM10 and Paranoid Android?
Since Paranoid Android is built on CM10 - wont it just have a few extra features? (Hybrid mode looks cool imo.)

Don't you think hybrid is a big difference ? Just flash and compare, no one will be able to choose for you. Ten minutes work, restore is easy with nandroid, you could even try without data wipe as it's same base. But CM10 bugs ==> Paranoid.
I look at the voting poll and it's pretty close. Right now I'm running CM10. I must to say that the battery life rocks. The only thing that I don't like that much is the Contacts feature, a lot of stuffs are missing. Ow and also I can't find Power Saving mode in Settings?

The latest Syiah Kernel allows you to dual boot your phone. So you can have two different roms installed.
I use CM10 because it has faster/more frequent updates. (Usually every night hence "nightly") (could be a good or bad thing though... I feel like I have to flash something on my phone every day. Flashing is sooo addicting lol.)
PA is based on CM10 and will have to wait for CM10 to release its update before it too updates. The PA team is also quick to update when it happens though.
But PA has added features to CM10 that some people may or may not like. Hybrid mode and enabling/disabling hard/soft keys are one of top features that comes to mind.
Dude, first of all.. you CAN'T let other people decide on what you "want"
You just have to try it for yourself..

I'm trying out right now the CM10. Very awesome! I will give a try to PA also.
Just wanted to know which was more stable ..
This is a little off the Paranoid and CM10 but what I tried was this...
Downloaded Omega v29 & Omega v2.0 and dropped into SD Card,
Formatted my Internal Memory, (like completely formatted),
Flashed Omega v29, once done, set it up, and there is S Teaks in the App Drawer, open it up and go across to Dualboot and click the ''Reboot into 2ndROM Utils''
Down the bottom there is dual-boot options, go into that, Format 2md Rom system, Wipe 2nd Rom data/cache and wipe dalvik-cache, and fix permissions, then install zip to from External SD (where you put the omega v2.0 file, and flash that. And the rest is as is comes.
It will reboot and you have a choice to click the home button to go to your 2nd rom or click anything else to go to 1st Rom.
Worth it, due to both those Omegas are different UI, I got Omega v29 for Gaming and 2.0 for sexy show off looks.
i used PA before im on CM10.1 based rom,
PA - i like the phablet mode etc but it has no statusbar transparency
CM - i love the speed, themes and the softbutton below its like a built in. battery and performance are great.
i dont know which is better since i used the same kernel with that 2 cusrom marmite kernel

Ok... i'm not new here, but Android has changed a lot since last time i used it. I see many new things here, and i tried looking other threads but still have some confusions.
1. I know AOSP is the original source, and AOKP is the modified one, but can someone still tell me what's the difference? what what in the hell do they modify, and why do they need to modify, i guess the original ROM is better than the Kang.
2. Is CM a AOKP ?
3. Which one is better AOSP or AOKP?
4. What is a Kerenel ?
5. If i flash my phone with a ROM, what happenes to my Beats Audio ? If its gone, can i get the app from somewhere, cause its there in the gplay.

All roms have to be based on source, otherwise it's not android, it's just another mobile OS running on linux.
Kernels are not new, every OS has a kernel, GNU/Windows/OSX. A kernel is used for communication between the device at a H/W level and the software.

Good Morning,
I have looked around and am having a hard time finding an answer to this. Specifically, I have the DNA and a CM10 theme that I want to use. My understanding after research is that in order to use the Theme Manager you must have a ROM that was compiled with Theme Manager support?
If so, does anyone know of a ROM for the DNA that has Theme Manager support? Is it just a matter of finding a ROM that supports it? Im currently using Team Viper's ROM. Long story short, I want to use this theme: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mac.theme.Alloy.Red on my DNA.
Thanks!
You need to be running CM10.1 to use a CM10.1 theme

Did you forget to check the section labeled "Original Development"? There is a thread for CM10.1 in the top 5 or 6 threads. It isn't stable, but it's there.
I didn't forget, it's just not usable at this point. There is no voice support, play store support, etc. I was curious if there were any CM10 based ROMs. Also, someone told me that AOKP based ROMs support CM10 themes, do you know if that's true?

Theme Manager themes will work with any AOSP rom that has Theme Manager support. AOKP and CM builds with that built in will support those downloaded themes.
If there were any fully functional CM10.x/AOKP roms, they would be among the top threads in the Original sub-forum. You're not missing anything. CM10 is being worked on, but will take time. Once that's finished, it will have Theme Manager, I'm assuming.
Thanks mad, I never fully understood that. So AOSP has the ability, at compile, to support Theme Manager. Both AOKP and CM typically choose to include this, and are build from AOSP code. Does that sound about right? Either way, I will just have to wait for either an AOKP or CM build with Theme Manager support?
Thanks again for all the help, and sorry.

Yes but not purely default AOSP.
The thememanager was made by the CM team is is baiscally incorporated into any AOSP rom that isn't OTA because why not.
Quick question. I'm running jt1134's CM 10.1. It's great but Paranoidandroid has me interested. This ROM has a special partition (I'm not sure if it's commonplace or just a tweak for this particular ROM) and I was wondering if that would pose any problems when moving to Paranoid. Will it flash over just fine or will I have to do something extra (like flashing it twice or something)?

the partition is the same, though the recovery is different, and you have to flash the PA Gapps instead of normal Gapps. the best thing to do is:
1. flash ROM
2. it'll probably boot into TWRP (the default recovery for PA) automatically, but if it doesn't, reboot into recovery and flash the ROM again
3. flash Gapps after ROM
don't forget to wipe data and dalvik cache before flashing PA. different ROM
oh and the MTD partition is commonplace, but don't try to downgrade to an older OS without an Odin back to stock, as cm10.1's MTD is different from the CM7 and ICS MTD partitions.
Thanks for the help and info. I go long periods of time between tinkering so it's a bit like the first day back to school after a long summer.

You're recommending a 4.3 ROM, which by the way doesn't even have proper data working, among other bugs.
That's kind of not a good thing to do.
