App that won't run with root access, solutions? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm trying to figure out a way to use my banks token application.
The problem is that it won't run, but simply say that it won't run on rooted devices for security reasons.
I'm running Slim ROM 4.3, and it has the toggle to disable root, but even after disabling adb/root, reboot, reinstall of the app, it still won't run.
What can the apps detect? A root checking app states that root is disabled.
Can these kinds of apps only run on stock kernels? Anyone that found some workaround?

An age old question & one there isn't a solution for (other than running an unrooted stock phone).

losing root access with sense 5 port

I am losing root access and updating apps. This is the first time i have been having this problem. I think it has something to do the supersu update of app, but not sure. I backed up with root so not a big deal but dont know why this is happening. Do I need to unroot then root again or is there a know issue with this rom.
Try uninstalling the SU app completely and reinstalling it. Then, open the app and confirm the binaries are up to date. Next time, be sure to post questions in the Q&A category please.

Last time I flashed sense 5 I think all I did reinstall updated binaries and reboot. If you have any market issues (force closing being most common) delete and reinstall Google play services

[Q] Confusion about unrooting

Well, hello. I'm most certainly a noob, although I do have experience with developing for android and using Linux on a PC system. I haven't done any rooting/unrooting/custom-firmware-flashing before, however.
I believe this question to be about Android devices in general and so I'm posting it here instead of a device-specific forum.
The short version of my question is:
Is it possible to install a custom firmware on my phone, but prevent apps installed in it from having root access?
The long version:
Having read about how the Android OS works, I understand that each app installed in a system basically has its own user account, and that's how privileges work: The OS simply doesn't allow this specific user/app to access other apps or hardware.
Unless I'm mistaken, rooting a phone makes all apps run under the same user account: root. Which means that all apps have access to every other app and all hardware on the device.
I found many web pages that explained that this is a security risk as malicious code could then use anything at all on the phone. This makes sense of course, that's why most applications on a Linux system don't run as root.
I understand why rooting the device is necessary to install a custom firmware on it, but what I haven't understood is why the device has to stay rooted afterwards. Isn't installing a custom firmware basically replacing the OS on the device? If so, couldn't I replace it with an OS that doesn't run everything as root but instead runs every app as its own user, like unrooted devices do?
I've searched this website and others for information on this but I haven't been able to find something that answers this question.
I found explanations for why unrooting is needed to install a custom firmware, but they didn't include why the resulting system can't be rooted.
I found guides on how to restore the original firmware on a device, which isn't what I'm looking for, although this process is called "unrooting" (the word seems to be misused here, but maybe that's just me).
I also found guides on how to trick certain applications, which won't run on a rooted device, into thinking that the device isn't rooted. However, the reason I'd prefer my device not to be rooted isn't to trick any applications but for security reasons.
What I'd basically like to do, is install custom firmware but, once that's done, ensure that applications I download from the Market or install directly don't have any more privileges than they've been developed to ask for. Is that not possible? I don't understand why not...
Gaining root access to your phone will not give a single app root privileges, for the most part you will use an app called superuser or supersu to allow or deny any app root access. (Sometimes baked into ROM)
But you have no worries, any app that you download from the market will not have root unless you give it

Is that so? Thanks. It seems I was wrong at the very beginning of my logical process.
So, if I understand correctly, the lack of security isn't that anything installed has root access, but that it can have root access. Is that right?
Correct, even whatever custom ROM you are running has a built in app for lets say messaging, this will not have root access.
You just bow have the ability to do anything (mostly) to your device, but you don't have to

Trouble installing apps manually

I try to install an application and for some reason can't hit the install buttons. It just won't work, but the cancel button does. Doesn't make sense... Any help necessary, unrooted. Latest version.

Some questions for you.. what is the exact firmware version that are you using? Do you have allow unknown sources checked in the settings menu? Are you using any permission manager apps such as xprivacy? What version of Towel root do you have and tell us what steps you used to try installing towel root?
.
Its nothing of those things. This occurs when an app uses an overlay to cover the entire screen. Some apps that use an overlay will do this. So if you are using an app that requires the permission "draw over other apps" then it could be that app. Do you know of any apps that have a "floating" feature to them? Or an app that may be detecting full screen?

Huawei Union Y538 Root?

is there anyone know how to root Huawei Union Y538 Root? i looked through xda but cant find anything thanks in advance.
I had partial success using King Root download for android. It rooted and successfully installed the king root su binaries, however Titanium Backup complained that this version of the SU binaries may cause trouble on Android versions higher than 4.2 (or something to that effect. My Union runs Android 5). Titanium backup was never successfully able to clear system apps or move apps from the user space to the ROM space. I attempted to use SuperSu-Me to replace King Root, but upon the script's completion and prompting to restart, the device completely failed to boot past the Huawei logo. Thankfully the device was still new enough that I was able to take it back to the store without question.
Your mileage may very, but be careful and take a backup of what you can.
Kingroot works fine. As for the moving of systems apps I wouldn't because the LOCKED bootloader and kernel check that on boot and will make the device boot loop permanently. (Or until fixed since it is just a soft brick)

huawei union hotspot
Has anybody figured out a hotspot mod for this phone. It seems like other huawei phones got it to work by changing the msl, but I can't find a way to do it on the y538.

I would like to know this as well!
I successfully rooted with KingRoot. However, nothing seems to allow me to enable the native hotspot (build.prop edits, etc). Nor am I able to successfully broadcast or enable hotspot with any 3rd Party WiFi tethering apps, including FoxFi, Barnacle, or even paid WiFi Tether Router!
Any success stories or suggestions out there??
If not, does anyone know if the ZTE Speed or Alcatel OneTouch Elevate are native hotspot enabled or capable of tethering with 3rd party apps? I know the Moto E 2015 is native hotspot enabled and is somewhat easy to work with.
Thanks!
ZTE Speed has native hotspot. But i couldn't get it rooted.

I successfully got native hotspot by doing the following:
Root with KingRoot
Download Shortcut Maker (Lite) from the Play Store
Three dots on upper right -> Search... -> Search for cham -> Launch Chameleon Payload Maintenance (com.huawei.sprint.chameleon.ui.NodeCategoryListActivity) -> Allow root
Settings -> TetheredData -> Edit -> 4
I performed these steps but when I try to launch the Chameleon Payload Maintanance nothing happens.
Am I missing something?
Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide!

The only other steps I did on my phone:
my futile attempt at installing openchameleonnode apk. That one would always open to a blank screen and quit. (people mentioned it worked on various phone makers)
installing QuickShortcutMaker from the Play Store because Shortcut Master (Lite) told me su not found. That one gave me a not enough permissions warning, so I decided to root.
Did you get a request by Shortcut Master for root? If not, maybe try one of the other Chameleon Payload Maintenance on the list (there were several)?

It seems that Purify was the one causing the issue. I went to general settings and disabled "Keep Root Access" and "Auto purify" and rebooted the phone.
After that I was able to launch the shortcut and make the change.
Thanks a lot for your help!
What provider are you using. I am on Boost. Will that allow me to use my unlimited data plan as a hotspot instead of the 8 gigabyte tethering
Purify had issues I think it's something with (zone-libentertainment).

Guys,
I would like to remove "Google Play Books" and "Google Play Games" but tried a lot of apps (Titanium Backup, Purify, ES File Explorer, NoBloat Free, Uninstall, Root FileManager) and none of them was able to remove them.
I'm no expert but It seems that "/system" is mounted as ready-only so I'm not sure how it would be possible to uninstall them.
Did you guys had any luck removing system apps after rooting with King Root?

I can send it to Purify`s recycle bin as well, but I cannot completely remove.
When I try to do it one of those two things happen:
1) I get a message saying that the remove fail.
2) I get a message saying that the remove was successful but the app returns to the list of installed apps.
Are you able to completely remove?
Thanks,

Lloyds mobile banking app uk

I have kenzo cyanogen ROM installed (13.0-20160617 unofficial kenzo) I have used Lloyds banking app for a long time but tonight it tells me I can't log in as using a rooted or jail broken device. I haven't updated the app for a while or ran any other updates.
Is this room rooted by default? As I didn't think it was and I didn't think I had root.
Is there a way to fix it so I can use my banking app again?
It has a root option which you can enable. I can suggest trying root cloak but that also means you'll have to install xposed. Make sure root is turned off in dev settings and clear the cache/data of the banking app before trying root cloak. Otherwise you may have to settle for their website.
Root is off in the developer options. I wonder if the banking app can see the ROM or something else is not stock? Its frustrating as it was the reason I didn't root my phonephone/want it rooted.
I noticed that even installing an older version of the app I get same error so maybe something else has changed . if a system app has somehow updated and caused this? I am still on the original ROM from june. I haven't installed nightlies.
Either that or my account has somehow been flagged so even old app versions dont work(deleted data and folders etc from the app first.)
regarding ths problem - Im guessing its not looking at root as this is disabled, but it can see either an unsupported rom, or something else. Can i flash a different rom (prefereably not Miui) and regain the banking app? a rom that would be classes as supported?
