I recently flashed Froshedyo to my eris and my fiances eris. I set up setcpu and auto killer its now on aggressive. Today uninstalled setcpu thinking that it was affecting battery life since my fiance mentioned that his battery went from 90 something to 54 in 30 mins. Mine went from fully charged to 61 in less than 3 hours. We dont use our phones heavily. I do use the internet most days but not for long periods of time. I did wipe the battery stats on both phones and still havent seen much of a difference.
My question is, is there anything else I can do to get really good battery life. Do I have to do the collins battery tweak because I was going to try that next or would I have to end up switching roms which I really dont want to have to do but will if it will mean improvement. Id like the phone to not be dead after less than 24 hrs of use. Thank you for any help.
When you flashed and wiped battery stats was the phone fully charged then did you completely drain the battery and then charge to 100%? Do you have wi-fi and or blue tooth on all the time? Just trying to start with the easy things... I've heard of no issues of bad battery life with sheds roms. In fact quite the opposite. But I think his includes cpuboost in which case you don't need set cpu as they will conflict each other.

I charged the phone to 100% wiped them this morning and then went about using the phone as I usually would. Sounds like I missed a step. So I have to charge to 100% then let it die then charge again then wipe? I
I never have wi-fi or blue tooth on.
Yes the rom did come with cpu boost. I believe I have that set 710/245. Should I change that as well?
i found this very useful on the desire forums

After much googling this is the way that seems to be best when recalibrating battery. I just see so many people with poor battery life and it's likely because you've flashed new kernels and roms 50 times a week =p
Minor update! I recalibrate my phone today and realized something, this is reflected in a few new steps.
Step 1: Charge phone to 100%
Step 2: Wipe battery stats and shut phone off.
Step 3: UNPLUG PHONE and power on
Step 4: Leave phone on until it it shuts itself off. Do not plug it in.
Step 5: Turn phone back on, still unplugged. If it can't turn on that's fine. If it can turn on let it fully drain again.
Step 6: LEAVE PHONE OFF. Plug the phone in and let it FULLY charge without interruption. I let my phone hit the green light and then wait an hour before step 7.
Step 7: After it's hit green and you've waiting a while unplug your phone. Do not turn it on. Wait a minute and then plug it back in. If the light stays amber for more than a few seconds (like 10 tops) leave it charging again until it's green.
Step 8: Repeat step 7 until the light turns green very soon after you plug it back in.
Step 9: Unplug and turn your phone on. Enjoy your (hopefully) extended battery.
I also suggest using "Juiceplotter" widget. It "records" your phones battery usage and uses it to predict future battery life. It won't work perfectly for the first day or so but after it gets used to your habits it's very good at predicting.

I am going to have to try that. Thank you. =D I hope it helps.
Charred the phone to 100% then wipe battery stats. Let the battery drain till the phone shuts off then charge it again. Wait untill its fully charged to unplug it and power phone on. You shouldn't need to wipe everything and flash again. You also dont want to use cpuboost and setcpu together. That will cause conflictions. I can't say on the settings because I don't use either of these. Im also not sure about task killer.

If your going to answer me with "You retard its only been out a day" or something like that then dont answer cause i dont need your opinion -_-...
Now if u flashed KA6 and dont mind sharing your opinion with me about your battery life on it so far.... Plsz go aheas =D
Is it better then KA5? Lol
"You retard its only been out a day"
lol jk
no one can really give you an honest statement.
It's been out a day, and a rom/phone usually needs to take 24 hours, or more to settle in and start acting normal, then if you check it should be good...
but SO FAR, my battery life's the same as KA5, excellent.
but depends on what rom your using, with NERO, i had a bit lower battery than usual(probably just me) then with Axura, incredible life.

Any of jellette's latest roms have extraordinary battery life. I'm currently running M10 and after getting up at 430 this morning, now 715 pm, still at 51%.
Sent from my nuclear powered submarine.
It's the best i've seen so far, after about 24 hours of moderate use: wifi, about 30 minutes of calling, about 30 minutes navigation, few downloads and install, i even watched an episode of the daily show, the battery is still at 50%
I think it's the best i've seen so far, but then again, I was on JFD then JI6 up until a couple of weeks ago.

interesting...my battery life has essentially been halved coming from rooted, stock JI6 (minus most bloat). if i unplug this thing at 5:50 am and listen to music (with the screen off) for 45 minutes while working out, and syncing email once an hour, the battery is at 30% by 10:30am. before the update it'd be at 80% to 85%.
any suggestions? It's getting pretty unusable honestly, especially being the owner of a nexus s as well...
just wanted to post an update that i finally got up the nerve to install modified 3e recovery which in turn let me get (and keep) Clockwork mod recovery, where i flashed the new K1B modem and wiped the battery stats.
Im conditioning the battery by letting it drain down and will charge it to full again, but so far I'm happy to report that battery life is now excellent for a vibrant.
went through heavy use today of 3g, streaming, gps, and 2.5 hours in phone calls and im at 18 percent currently (been off the charger for 13+ hours).
Very acceptable for how i use my phone. before this change it was hemorraging power and needed to be recharged twice in the same day ( mid morning and again when i got home). I'm happy with my phone again!
P.S. KB1 modem is a beast, i hit 6.1mbs down, and gps accurate to 9 meters, and under power usuage cell standby only accounted for 4% of power where as it was 20ish% before. holy crap

You can go to menu button> settings>about phone> then status gives battery level and battery use give the % of power usage by task
You can get apps for this, don't really need them.

Use anycut to make a shortcut of lbstestmode on your home screen then click "get position test". It will then display how many satellites there are in the sky and how many you've locked onto
Btw "locked on" means that your phone can see a satellite and it can see you basically. Your phone connects to many different satellites and the more it locks onto, the more accurate your location. Hope this helps

That's very good, lbstestmode is an included package in android used to test your gps. Your readings mean that your phone is locked on and it knows where you are within 15 meters

***NOTICE***
The ROM Manager version of CWM does NOT wipe battery stats properly, as with many other things. What you need is jt1134's version of CWM that is all happy and works and stuff.
You can find his happy CWM here. And here. And also here.
And here.
Big thanks to LegionTHEFecalExcretion for the heads up on that.
***END NOTICE***
NOTE: On current DL30 and EB01 ROMs, you will not see battery life like you did on DL09 with undervolted kernels. There are NO undervolted kernels as of yet, everything kernel wise with Froyo ROMs in very much stock. These steps will improve your battery life in comparison to when you flashed Froyo, but you are not going to see spectacular changes in battery life up to what you were getting with undervolted DL09, etc. It's just not possible until we get undervolted kernels and Froyo matures for our device, development wise.
Hi everyone, I've been seeing a lot of threads about bad battery life, whether switching to Kaoscinate, Vanilla, or DL30. Stop it! Just kidding. There is a simple process everyone should follow when switching between different enough ROMs, like AOSP, CM6 and TW Eclair and Froyo. This is how you retrain your battery.
1. Charge your battery to 100% (when it gets there, let it SIT there, your phone is NOT reporting correctly).
2. Reboot to Recovery and Advanced -> Wipe Battery Stats.
3. Reboot, and use your phone until it is VERY low (5-10%, you can let it die if you want).
4. Charge your phone back to 100%
5. (Optional) Power down, then power on phone. (Thanks goes to BrwnSuperman for this suggestion, give it a try!)
Your battery issues should be solved. This needs to be done every once in a while, especially when switching between different ROMs and OS versions.
User dalrym05 posted this alternate method for retraining the battery on page 4 as well, so I thought I would share it here in the OP. I'm posting this as a USE AT YOUR OWN RISK method, as I have not tested it, and am not quite sure what the *228 steps for it actually accomplish and have to do with retraining the OS battery reporting, so I'm leaving it quoted to dalrym05 for the time being.
dalrym05 said:
Here were my steps to better battery.
1.*228 option 1
2.*228 option 2
3. Run battery completely dead to 0%
4. Plug in and boot immediately into cwm
5. Wipe battery stats and dalvik cache
6. Reboot and let charge fully before unplugging
7. Completely discharge again and fully charge again.
After this you should notice a very nice increase in battery as I did. My battery life is back up to par with eclair.

HybridByNature said:

IE
-Close programs that you aren't using.
-Don't leave your camera or navigation running in the background.
-Turn off WiFi & GPS etc when you aren't using them.
-Don't run your screen at full brightness if you can help it.
-Figure out what uses more battery life than other things:
Pandora, internet browsing, downloading, camera/camcorder, Angry Birds etc.
If you are rooted, try and narrow it down to the best kernel/theme for your situation. I've found that I have better battery with a non-voodoo kernel but the performance increase is worth it so that's a trade-off that I make.
Let's hear from our readers: What is working for you?

Would not surprise me if this is all it is. I have turned my phone off at 5% for an hour and turned it back on without charging and then it showed 45%. I know when batteries are low letting them sit a little bit can help, but not that much.
It is just being reported inaccurately by the OS.

Yes, but not as a thread, it gets posted in everyone else's "Why does my battery life suck ass" threads, so I made this so maybe people would see it and try it before posting another useless question thread in Development.

I have the battery charger and 3 batteries, I always run my battery low and leave it in the charger for a day.
I did this last night and it didn't work too well for me.
Also, when I go to wipe battery stats in the recovery, it doesn't tell me if it wiped or not, just goes back to the advanced menu.
And also, should I be concerned that when I cold boot into the recovery, it doesn't appear to be CWM? It says Android recovery...I know I have CWM recovery installed.

Wow same here..I just took mine off the charger bout 10 minutes ago and it's at 95% now. I guess I'm gonna let the battery run completely dead and charge it and see what happens.
I did something similar. I charged to 100% while it was on, removed from charger then powered off. When phone was off I plugged charger back in and waited til it was at 100% then unplugged again and powered on. Waited until phone was completely on then unplugged again and connected to charger. Waited til it was at 100% and while still plugged in at 100% booted into recovery and wiped battery stats. Then rebooted phone into OS and unplugged. I had tried this previously with DL09 and it helped a little. Last night I wanted to see how my battery would drain after doing this. With WiFi on and I got about 10 emails during the night, from 8:30pm to 6:00am I lost only 13%!!! Previously I would have lost from 35 to 40%. ymmv

This is a proven technique, and it takes patience. Seeing the battery drop from 100% down to 95 or 96% after unplugging is normal behavior. I've done this already. Left my phone unplugged overnight and lost 1% battery. If you're too impatient to take the time to do this, that's your loss. You'll see the battery life "improve" over the course of a few days as the reporting gets more and more accurate.

I agree with supplysidejesus. This is a standard practice and should be done with each major rom or kernel install. This leak hasn't been put long enough for most of us to know what our expected battery life will be yet. Give it a few days for your phones to adjust.

Has anyone else ever had their battery improve over time?
My stock battery has overnight gotten amazingly better, and I can't explain it. Its on a stock amaze, everything stock, I was having some battery issues, it would charge and get to 99% then take a good 20-25 mins to get to 100%, so I got a battery calibrator off the market, a non root required one. So I get it charged, and 'calibrate' it, and I didn't think it would do anything. So it stayed at 100% for over an hour with the screen on. At night it was reading 70%, and I left it without charging, and in the morning was dead. Right away I thought the battery calibrator threw it off, so I charged it up agaon to 100%, and this time wanted it to drain to zero, and I thought I'd start over from a drained battery. Same thing happened when I had it at 100%, it would take forever to drain it, I was playing movies on it, sound turned up, screen full brightness, and the thing wouldn't drain. I had a movie looped all night, and for a period of 10 hrs of this, it was still going when I woke up! I find it hard to believe that this is legit, but I've tried it twice now to drain the battery and I'll wake up and it'll be at roughly 15% remaining.
The other odd thing I noticed is on my data tracker, I had about 80MB of data go through the phone that I can't recall doing anything with. It was at a time I was at home and on wifi, so I can't call telus and see what went through the network, but the phone had something big go through it that I didn't do. Maybe telus is secretly fixing the battery issue on these phones? The conspiracy continues…
Just thought I'd share. I attached a pic of the battery status as of today. I haven't charged this thing in over a day other then a little bump. Before, I'd get to 18-20 hrs of regular use and it would need a charge.
I've also got another amaze running energy rom, and faux and its been doing way better then the rooted amaze.

I get 8-12 hours depending on my use from moderate to heavy. I usually hook it up to a charger though if I am watching a flick or streaming music, unless working out, lol!
My mytouch4G I got between 12-14 hours, so not drastically different. I Just deal with it.

Hmmm, sensation gave me much worse battery life, currently using energy ROM sense 3.0. I get about 12 hrs per day average use, data constantly on (unlimited), min 1 hr talk, few min of Twitter and responding to e-mails, checking stock. I plug it into my car charger for 10-30 min but it doesn't change that much.

Ha keep checking this hoping someone else tried the the op has done and see if there's been any improvement... My battery life seems decent enough and I know to bring my charger if I'm going to be using it a lot and out all day.

Taking pictures uses a LOT of battery life i have noticed, especially when using flash.
The Screen was barely on and awake time is minimal as well. Everyone just says "Wow" when they see a day, but a day of barely using your phone is not a special thing to accomplish.
Truth when I spend all day at my job I can't use my phone, even with syncing on... I'll still have 70+ % after 14 hours or so...

So is this thread supposed to be based on a purely stock experience? I have yet to get less than 14 hours with the heaviest usage.. but then again I am not stock. But every rom I have used has given me at LEAST a 12 hour battery life, even if I am trying to kill it.
I realize from numerous threads that wiping battery stats doesn't really do anything, but even though my battery goes to 90% super quick(I wish I knew why, it hasn't always) I still usually get 18+ from my phone, with realistic usage.
If this thread IS just for people using stock.. why are you using stock? I am on bulletproof 2.5 with the latest kernel, and I get great battery life, with over 130 apps installed and regular use.
A random thought, on previous devices I disabled automatic time sync and saw a big difference. I did the same for the amaze since day 1.. maybe you should disable it too? After you synced to the server, what point is there to auto-time?
My 2 cents.. don't know what the complaining it about.
On light usage, I EASILY get 2+ days on one charge..
Anyone else experiencing horrible batter drain? Android OS is taking up 50-60% on average and it just eats it up while idle. I'm thinking about a return, this is my second handset, and with a locked bootloader, im losing faith in a quick solution. Any ideas?
Minimal use and quick setup with two to three app dowloads, and my 40% charged new device was down to zero in 2 hours.
I've noticed some battery quirks so far. My percentage drops 3% simply by locking and unlocking my phone within a few minutes. I've also seen it jump up in percentage once so not sure. Maybe there is something in the OS that isn't optimized that's causing the battery drain and quirks? I dunno. Be great to hear from some other people on this issue.

Working on BT unlock so i would wait.
I've only had one charge on mine but it seems to be going good for me. I made it over a full day with 3+ of screen time.

what percentage does your "android os" show? I'm wondering why my second handset is the same. Did you root yours and remove the bloatware?

Hi give it a couple of charge cycles it will definitely improve.
Yes, I've got the same problem. The OS takes most of the battery. Idle is fine, but with any use battery drops very fast and gets extremely hot, as well.

Keep in mind that these are new phones with NEW BATTERIES. With that being said, you need to "cycle" (charge to 100% then discharge to 0% <repeat 3-5x's) the battery before we judge and jump into conclusions. Just sayin

keep that in mind. just came as a surprise, never had a device out of the box have this bad of battery life since my g2x or some old htc.

For the record, I'm also having pretty lousy battery life. OS taking up 55%+. Last night I charged it to 100%, played with it until it was about 93% and then went to bed. Woke up this morning and it was at 65% with zero deep sleep and 80% OS usage.
Something's funky. I like the phone but can't be dealing with this constantly.
A:
EDIT: Turns out the extreme drain was from the radio. I had switched off LTE in the hidden menu and apparently that causes a ton of wakelocks and prevents deep sleep. As soon as I turned LTE back on, deep sleep came back. So that's somewhat encouraging.
I'll have to look at that. I'm getting a day with light use out of my second phone after a few charges, but it gets a little scary when im using it. I'm staying optimistic, my s3 was just phenomenal with battery life after rom kernel additions.
Can you explain how you turned off/on lte and the menu path?
I dont see an apn option other than the stock one (which im assuming is lte enabled). I'd like to see if it makes a difference. Thanks.
you need to enable network menu in the build.prop and a menu will appear where apn is

My battery life is not great, but it is not bad either I'll judge it more in a couple days after it goes through a few cycles.

Take a look in my "first impressions" thread for details on turning off LTE.

This is really disappointing. Physically, this phone is fantastic. It looks great and the specs are terrific but it's crippled by absolutely horrid software which I suspect is the reason for the abysmal battery life.
After my first day with the phone yielded less than 10 hours I decided to do a factory reset and set the phone to Eco Mode. That improved things slightly... I managed to get 14 hours but that was with limited usage. In fact, the only significant difference in results was that, in Eco Mode, Android OS shows that it is consuming 80% of the battery vs 53% the previous day.
There is something seriously wrong with these things... the fact that some people are saying that they aren't seeing the problem has me worried that it may be some sort of hardware-related issue.

I would guess those people that aren't seeing this are not looking at the battery stats, I have never seen Android take up this % of battery on any device and I have been using android since the Hero... about a good 15 devices or more ago I have lost count. Come next Thursday I am going to go switch out for something else if the boot loader is not unlocked yet.
Awesome battery life

That is with only 3 hours of use, and the android OS should never be that high, on every other device the screen is the highest... and this is a problem with the software.
