I have been able to achieve WIRELESS display and audio mirroring with my AppRadio!
I just connected my adapter to the HDMI input, powered it via USB and then used the wireless display feature in the phone to connect.
I am using tasker to force landscape and manage screen timeout etc etc.
This is all really awesome but there is one major caveat, the display will mirror but I cannot interact with it through the head unit. Does anyone have any good ideas on how get that to work?

Here is the thing, I think we can all agree that mirroring with no wireless kicks a lot more ass than being forced to use a wire. The current setup I'm running accomplishes everything that the wired connection using 'AppRadio Unchained' does without using a wired connection, except for touch control through he head unit, which we all want.
I'm just not exactly sure how the head unit decides to allow/disallow touch and that's why I'm reaching out to the community to get a solution to the problem.

For the radio it doesn't make any difference whether you are using a wireless connection or using a wired connection. The main thing is that it gets its input signal through HDMI.
The touch info from the head unit is sent via bluetooth to the phone. That's why you need a bluetooth connection and an app on your phone that is able to connect to the radio and interpret the touch info that is received. If you use the Pioneer AppRadio app this should work but you can use only the "Pioneer approved" applications. The goal of the AppRadio Unchained mod is to be able to use any application and control it from the radio.

So will I be able to use the touch screen using this Wireless adpater and AppRadio Unchained?
Did you get this to work with the Droid Maxx?
Hey <:GeeK:>,
Did you ever get this to work with the Droid Maxx? At this point, I'm not sure how to hook up the Maxx to the AR3 even using wires, since its only outputs are USB and audio. Can I use WiDi directly with the AR3, or does it require an adapter like the push2tv adapter you used in your video?
Thanks,
Chris

I was able to use the latest ARU which is .16 I believe, and the netgear PTV3000. I got this working with a rooted Note 2, I also tried with my GS4, but it isn't working. I'm assuming it's the knox software, even though I removed all 3 files (that I found) of knox
Note 2 is still running 4.1.2
GS4 is running 4.4.2
My headunit is the AR3

I'm thinking about purchasing the Cobra iRadar Radar Detector for my car but I'm wondering if this can be synced up to my Evo 3D since it connects using bluetooth at the same time my car's bluetooth phone system is connected. To my understanding I thought only one piece of hardware could be connected to a device via bluetooth at a time but the more people I talk too the more I hear that it depends on the devices involved and what their bluetooth specifications allow. So if anybody knows anything about this issue involving the Evo 3D I'd be much appreciative for any help that could shed some light on this...Thanks!
If it using the same protocol it likely will not work. I was able to get my stereo headset (phone and media) and my BT keyboard connected at the same time. However, i think i needed to connect the keyboard first and it would not auto reconnect when i turned the screen back on.

From my (limited) understanding Bluetooth allows for 7 simultaneous connections. But, like the poster before me stated, it probably won't work if they are using the same protocol-you will have issues connecting 2 a2dp devices at the same time. I'm not sure what the cobra uses... You might want to field this question to cobra directly, or on their forums. Certainly they tested this or some customer has.
There is also a possibility that Bluetooth 3.0 in the phone might change this as well. I can say from personal experience that things get iffy with my Kenwood head unit in my car with the 3d, an ipad, and a nook color... Hardly able to say which device is at falt in that loop though-and its 3 devices hooked to the head unit, not to the phone.

mutliple devices can be synced but only one device can be using particular bluetooth feature at a time.
Example:
Car Stereo has Bluetooth
My Phone can be connected to Bt Phone
My Ipod Touch can be connected to BT Audio
Both connected at the same time

Just curious if anyone knows if the touch-display functionality on the atrix will work with HDMI mirroring when connected to a touch-sensitive external display?
Curious as I'm contemplating getting one to setup in my car in the center console, idea is to replace a display in my center console with a touch-sensitive one and run 1x HDMI & 1x USB cable into my arm rest storage area where the phone can reside.
Would be nice if it worked, I could have android on a larger display in the car, internet, navigation .. etc etc... seen guys do this with some tablets but I'd like to see if I could run it off the Atrix.. could even wire the audio to an 'Aux Input' on the back of my radio and use the phone to play music on my car's system.
Similar idea to the padfone concept, just different application.
Just don't know if the touch-screen functionality is native when its connected over HDMI or not, anyone ever messed with it?
I suppose with webtop it may be possible, especially if you have ubuntu or debian, as for hdmi mirroring I wouldn't think so... and if there were calibration software you wouldn't be able to run it on android... So I would say you could try and that it is theoretically possible. Though I don't have a touchscreen to test it with...

Hello,
I'll be hooking up my tab in the car and I'm looking for a cable that will charge over USB and provide audio out in one.
I found this guy on Amazon but it only says it works with the original Tab.
www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0054MV84Q/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&smid=A36WKB83D3HR47
The video out is mirrored so I would just leave that part unplugged.
Does anyone have experience with this or something similar with the Tab 2?
Thanks!
I just ordered one. I'll give it a whirl and report back!
Be interesting to see how you get on, I'm in the process of mounting my P5110 in the car as well. I don't think the video would work anyway, but the audio should...
What bracket are you planning on using if you don't mind me asking?
I actually ended up making my own, a TV mount coupled with a gel case.
TV mount: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0044YMQIW/ref=oh_details_o05_s00_i00
Gel case: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009L7OMVG/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i00
With a little modification, it worked out quite well.
I like this setup because I can easily reach the tablet to control Pandora, Stitcher, Maps, etc, and still swing it over for a passenger to watch Netflix or browse the web. If I can get this cord to work, I'll be set!

Very nice setup, and with the minimum of cables hanging out of the Tab.
I must order the same cable now that you confirmed that it works, and post a pic once I have it mounted in my car.
Currently my trusty i9000 handles all my in car android needs with Navigon etc.. time to upgrade.
I still need a way to attach the cable to the mount without it looking like junk, but since it splits close to the usb/av end of the cable, this shouldn't be too hard.
Definitely post some pics once you have yours set up.
Since this is mainly going to stay in the car, I also set up Tasker to perform a few tasks when the device gets power.
On power connect:
- Turn screen on (I believe this happens anyway though)
- Set brightness to auto
- Set screen timeout to 24hrs (There is also a function to keep the screen from turning off, but it still dims the screen close to the devices set timeout, which I find annoying)
- Play audio (if paused)
On power disconnect:
- Pause audio
- Set screen timeout to 2min
- Lock screen
Just some food for thought.
Looks great!

So we can get audio out thru the 30-pin connector? hows the sound quality vs. the headphone jack? i assume since it works for the 10.1 tab 2 it should work on the 7.0, would love for a nice single connection setup like that when I work out a way to do an in-dash setup once i figure out a way to relocate the AC controls.
edit: 500th post :highfive:
has anyone got this working on a galaxy tab 2 7.0 (p3110 pref)
ive bought 2 diffrent cables and neither has routed audio out via dock,
is there something i should be doing within android to enable dock mode or route audio out via the connector or will it do that automatically?
i really need audio to come out via the dock connector so i can charge and play audio out of the one cable.

The audio on the 30 pin is the same audio on the headphone jack....... its audio.
The only difference between the 10 and the 7 is that the 7 has no video on the 30 pin
I bought a similar cable as yours But I cant get it to work the audio wont out through the cable only on the device. Any setting that I should do? Could you please show me your set up? Thanks you.

If it works on the p-51xx it will work the same on the P31xx except no video on 31xx 2.7.0 tabs
the pinouts are exactly the same.

CHeck the Samsung accessories page for the adapter, if it says its compatible it is, if its doesn't list your model its not.
Just curious here...I've been long considering taking my Galaxy Tab 2 7 inch apart and somehow fashioning a Double Din head unit out of it. But I'm a little skeptical now because:
If I'm reading this right, you guys are saying that only audio comes out of the USB connector thing? But that doesn't make sense to me because why wouldn't the audio sound, and video sound be handled the same way? It just seems like to me they would be essentially the same thing, but then again I'm not very tech on the software side so idk

From what I gather, your audio in whatever form will be carried through the 30-pin connection on the GTab7.0. The only difference in the pin connector from the GTab10.1 and GTab7.0 is that Samsung, in their infinite wisdom, omitted the video pin on the GTab7.0.
I just got a new Chevy 2014 Silverado Truck that has USB and Bluetooth connectivity for Music/Podcasts/Pandora etc....
My wife's iphone 5c works through the USB for music on the phone and pandora/spotify. She can plug in the phone to the usb and control all audio right from the truck Stereo.
But my Samsung S4 won't work at all. Just through Bluetooth and that is kind of flaky too. I have tried to change the settings on the USB connection in the phone when I connect it. I change it MTP and still doesn't work.
I don't think its the truck because my wife's phone works and USB thumb drives work with music also.
Update:
I even just bought a new head unit for my Car. 2014 Pioneer x8600BH that claims it works directly with Android through USB with MTP....
Wrong! It doesn't work with my freaking S4! Why is it so hard for Samsung to work through USB with other devices?!
Bump....
Anyone have any luck with Chevy Silverado or even what Aftermarket radio's to buy?

Is the phone it works with also a Verizon S4?
I think the problem is likely Verizon and not Samsung. Verizon put a ridiculous "installer mode" on their S4 that afaik isn't possible to disable and automatically activates first each time you plug your phone into something with USB. So the device you're plugging it into will see just a CDROM, and then 30s later it will change to MTP. If the device isn't able to handle that change it won't be able to work with a Verizon S4.
You can fix that by flashing a non-TW/non-VZW rom, but if you're not on MDK that's not an option...
There MAY be a way to disable the installer mode or enable UMS mode with a Safestrap rom, but I'm not sure on that.
What ROM are you on? I have an slightly older Kenwood deck that didn't work on stock 4.1.2 with USB but now that I'm on a non tw ROM it works fine. Its a touchscreen Bluetooth deck and my Bluetooth connection was OK. But not ideal the USB works much better.
I have a Canadian s4 sgh i337m that I flashed to look like a gt-19505 can't tell you which Roms worked for me but I'm on dandvhs Google rom now and it works for me. Hopefully you find some luck with a different rom
Sent from my GT-I9505G using xda app-developers app
I have a 2013 Malibu with the same radio software and I'm pretty sure the USB only works with iOS. The music app on the stereo is called "iPod" after all.
I have an American Verizon S4 with a 64gb Samsung SDcard... I am running HyperDrive 15 on MK2 safestrapped.
My new Radio in my car is a Pioneer DEH-x8600BH and I can't get the USB to work with it... It says MTP is supported but I think it doesn't support the change in the settings after being plugged in.
This may be such an unusual use case that it hasn't been an issue for anyone other than me, but here's to hoping for a solution...
I've just bought a new car (2015 Honda Fit) which has a decent size LCD panel in the dash (but I opted not to get the expensive navigation system) and which also has full bluetooth integration and, surprisingly, an HDMI port for the screen. HDMI is one of the "source" settings, and Bluetooth is a separate one.
I've paired my Nexus 5 to the car in order to take and make phone calls and get the other integration features such as music and podcast playback over the car's audio. I had this idea that if I were to run the Nexus 5 through the large screen using HDMI (via a Slimport adapter), I can have a much nicer Google Maps based navigation system that would give something close enough to the experience of the in-dash nav system minus the touchscreen -- which is fine, as I can set the route, put the phone in a cupholder, and not bother with it again.
Now, here's the fatal snag. While the phone is paired to bluetooth, it insists on sending 100% of its audio through Bluetooth and doesn't send it through HDMI. The car is either-or on the sources. If it's on HDMI, it only plays back HDMI. The screen displays exactly as I hoped -- but no audio at all (again, it's going to Bluetooth). Now, I can switch over to Bluetooth and hear the sound but not get the display. I could kill the pairing to get both through HDMI, but now I lose the ability to receive calls over bluetooth with the handy steering wheel call answering and all of the amenities associated with that.
I'm wondering if there is some kind of workaround -- Android configuration that I've somehow never noticed, or a third party app -- which will allow the Nexus 5 to remain paired and actively Bluetooth connected while still sending audio through the HDMI port (Slimport). I don't see that this would as likely be a car-side solution.
The Nexus 5 is rooted stock 4.3.3.
Thank you in advance for help toward a solution.

I can't help ith your situation, but I'm wondering if you can help with mine. I also just bought the 2015 Honda Fit. What I want to be able to do is mirror my Galaxy S4 to the screen for navigation purposes. But from what I understand, it will only work in Park. I don't have the cable yet and did't want to buy it unless I knew it would work.
For a quick test, I plugged a roku stick in the HDMI port. As expected, it worked fine until I put the car in gear. Then the display gets disabled. Does this happen with phone mirroring? Would I be able to actually use google maps and see it while in motion or will the screen shut off? What does and doesnt work with mirroring?

This behavior of the HDMI port / display actually became a far bigger problem than how to route the sound. I had been doing all of my testing with the car sitting in the garage, and because I wasn't ever able to get the sound to do what I needed, I didn't bother to go drive around with HDMI display enabled. I confirmed through this and consulting the manual that for "safety reasons" they have entirely disabled the HDMI input while the car is not in park. Unfortunately, I'd guess this is coded in the system's firmware which most of us aren't going to have a way to tamper with, so this is a fatal problem for what we're both looking to do. I was confident that there was probably some sort of solution to making audio go over both channels, but that's irrelevant in light of this problem.
So to summarize, I'll suggest not bothering with the Slimport (or the other kind of interface, if that's what your phone uses) because it will certainly be utterly useless for this and I don't foresee a solution. It looks like this thread is therefore dead. Thank you for bringing this to my attention, though -- I'd have continued working toward an audio solution and then discovered this bigger problem once I solved that one. You just saved me from wasting a lot of time.

One more thought (stating the obvious, I suppose) -- We've been hamstrung by the assumption that everyone is going to be using the display to watch movies while driving, even though we have excellent reasons which would actually make it safer (an easier to see navigation display). I guess Honda is mitigating lawsuits from the would-be idiots who might actually be watching American Idol episodes while driving to work.
