[Q] Skype disconnects when screen off - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hey guys, quick question
I use skype on a regular basis, and normally on the dock, so theres no problem. however, i always have to keep the screen on, which is a pain when im lying down in bed while on skype. thing is, when i turn off the screen, the call automatically gets choppy and eventually disconnected. The wifi sleep setting is already set to never, yet this still happens. any idea what could be happening? Using neutrino 3.02, if it matters.
thanks in advance!

This happens to me too with new versions above 4.0

AFAIK it's a bug in skype.
I've seen a lot of complaints on the store

Same here, but sometimes when I click on contact, skype restarts. I am using Android 4.1.2.

[Q] Network connectivity anomaly?

I'm not exactly sure what's going on here as it just started happening today when I powered on my tablet and am just too worn out from the weekend to troubleshoot it tonight. But when I powered on, the wifi connects, IP address assigned, all seems well within the Force. I open the browser and am able to go where I'd like- as expected. But any other app can not connect. Twitter, Google+, Gmail (any google tool really), Skype, Pandora, and the Market are all unable to connect.
Anyone have guidance or suggestions on where to start looking here? I will be tearing into this as a project this week but if it's something easy, please help me understand.
Same here.
I show myself connected to WiFi. SpeedTest.net app connects and is showing normal ping/download/upload speeds.
I can use the stock browser to surf.
But...
No connectivity within the Market, Dropbox, Gmail, GroupMe, Facebook, etc.
It was working fine, and then just stopped.

Any ideas?
Just turned on my gtab for the first time in a month and I'm having the same problem. Did you ever get this figured out?

The most likely cause for this problem is an incorrect system date and time. If the battery drains out, the onboard clock gets reset to Jan 1 2009 GMT and then you'll have this issue until the correct time is fetched from the network.
The next time this happens, just check and correct the system date and time.
Thanks for the reply - never would have realized that was the problem. Good to know for when it happens again!

You must have a app that is keeping it awake.
As ShadowOfDarkness has said, you've probably got an app(s) keeping your phone 'awake' & preventing it from sleeping when it's idling.
You need to find/install BetterBatteryStats on your phone (search for the thread devoted to this app on here), and let your phone run for a couple of hours/overnight after you've installed it.
Then go to the BetterBatteryStats thread & read the first 10 pages of the thread & the last 10 pages. This will give you an idea of what information/screenshots you'll need to post in that thread (not in this one) to enable the guys who post regularly to the thread to help you resolve this problem.
Rom xxxx and Kernel xxx all apps on phone .
Overnight battery drain 28%
Wipe phone install original rom root
Install custom rom with no user apps setup
charge 100%
overnight battery drain 1%.
One large drain caused by user apps
Two large drain due to the fact that rom xxx has had multiple flashes and different kernels over a two week period . My opinion is that flashing multiple roms etc requires a full wipe and revert to stock to clear out mistakes rubbish and any leftover bits .
Proof well lets say that norm is for little battery drain for me most of the time then i hit a high battery drain only resolved by above method and thats happened a few times .

deep sleep is comming automatically !
If you charge your phone it is not going into deepsleep and your phone is not going into deepsleep if any app is holding your phone @ 100 or 200 mhz
for testing if any app is holding your device out of deep sleep just put your device of, wipe cache and dalvik cache and restart it and look at CpuSpy if your phone is going into deepsleep now

How to switch off deepsleep?
Why would you want to 'switch off' deep sleep
Because I have lag with unlock the fone...
That won't solve the lag problem. That's perfectly normal, there isn't really anything you can do about that second or two it takes for the screen to come on/the phone to fire up once you unlock it.
Edit - To stop the phone sleeping, you'd need to do something with the phone constantly/have an app running that keeps a wakelock in order for the phone not to sleep. Still won't solve the wakeup thing tho.

no setcpu will not since deep sleep is not a problem dude but its state wherein ur cpu activity is at its bareminimal
ps- only solution is to keep ur phone awake all the time

Wifi "sleeping" when screen turns off !?

Just bought the mrs a Galaxy S3, she uses Wifi when at home. All the wifi settings are correct including the advanced ones (from the dialer menu)
melethron said:
Hey,
There was a change in API 12 (Honeycomb and later) with the way "wifi lock" is handled. Even if the sleep policy in settings->wifi->advanced->"Keep wifi on during sleep" is set to "always", wifi will still be in a "low performance mode". This results in throttled speed (f.e: stuttering streaming), high latency (ping your phone) and can even cause disconnects, when the screen is off.
Still this is not bug but a feature of Android and should be addressed by any app that needs full wifi performance. Any app that needs full wifi performance (like streaming or file shearing over wifi) should call for "WIFI_MODE_FULL_HIGH_PERF". This can be found in the official "android developer reference". Before API 12 (honeycomb) an app just needed to call WIFI_MODE_FULL for "wifi lock". If an app isn't coded proberly for honeycomb and ICS and has issue with Wifi performance appart from calling "wifi wake lock", you should report that to the developer of that app.
I still found a simple workaround for scenarious in which this function is not properly called. There is an rather simple widget on google play called "WIFI High Performance Widget". If the widget is enabled, the function WIFI_MODE_FULL_HIGH_PERF is called and the wifi performance is on full speed even when the screen is off. Im not in any way involved in the developement of this app and there might be other apps out there, that could achieve the same (for example: Android Terminal emulator also calls WIFI_MODE_FULL_HIGH_PERF if "wifi lock" is enabled.) Still this widget is the simplest solution i found thus far. Just enable the widget and get full wifi performance when screen is off.
Greetings

Is there any other way round this apart from the above ? Its really annoying that this hasnt been fixed, my HTC sensation is EXACTLY the same.
We both use whatsapp, and its annoying because if we are on wifi messages don't come through until you turn the screen back on, on 3G whatsapp works perfectly when the screen is turned off its just the wifi.
Above fix doesn't work.
thats odd , when my screen is locked i receive whats app messages and if i am downloading something over wifi it keeps on downloading, currently on cm10 but when i was on the stock rom , even if screen was locked wifi didnt sleep

Tried that last night, doesn't work.
Same thing happens on my sensation, desire HD, a friends desire HD..but we have a friend in america who has an Inspire and his wifi works fine when the screen is off :/. So originally I think, ok its an android bug..but they why doesn't he have that issue ? I spent about 5 hours last night searching the internet and there are numerous posts about the wifi issue but no resolution.
Have you tried altering security settings on your router?
which rom are you using ?
Figured it out.
3 Android devices were all having the same issue, I have spent over 15 hours researching and I have finally fixed it.
It was my router, not security settings just a common issue, I have an asus RT-N56U, I have flashed a custom firmware to it and my wifi on android devices is perfect, instant updates from facebook, gmail, whatsapp. A lot of time and testing but i'm glad I finally fixed the issue !
Now to order a nexus 4.......
That does not work. Selecting any of these options does not change and wifi stil off when screen turns off. Happen only on JB but not on ICS. Any fix for that please?

[Q] No SMS while on WiFi??

Please tell me I'm not the only one with this issue!
For the past three weeks, I can't send/receive texts or even calls sometimes while WiFi is turned on. However, when I'm out and not connected to WiFi, there is no issue. I've tried calling T-Mobile but all they wanted to do was factory reset my phone. When I DO get phone calls, the other people seem as though they are breaking up and I can't understand them AT ALL. And when I do manage to send texts, they take forever to reach their destinations.
Anyone else experiencing this?
i had that kind of issue after installing adblockplus couldn't even download mms or sms.or if the sms would take long time to send.i remove adbplus fix the issue at least for me
so trace back if you started having the problem after adding an app.????

thanks for the answer! I used to have adblockplus but I uninstalleunit and did a factory reset and the problem still persists. I tried the other solution also and it worked for a good five minutes and now back to square one...
It's getting really annoying because I feel as though TMobile didn't really know what was going on either.

well since last night my daughters phone would receive phone calls but she couldn't call out everything else was working call t-mobile again had phone off had them re send signal to sim. working now but this is what bothers me now he said that it seems from time to time the sim card would disconnect from the phone and we should get in the habit of turning the phone off and then back on to fix this issue.i wouldn't tell a customer that just bought the phone 2 month ago that kind of respond especially when you are buying a $600.00+ for this phone.
What type of WiFi do you use?
I use WiFi calling on mine frequently and don't have any problems.
For the sms, are you using hangouts for texting?

Just your average home WiFi connection if that's what you're asking.. I saw that WiFi calling was causing the problem for some people so it's been turned off on my phone for a while.
And I used to use hangouts but I switched back to regular messaging.... Then a few weeks later, this problem!

Some people reported same type of issues when they had"smart network switch" on. Disable that if it's on and see if that fixes the problem.

Help with Moto App

I had a Moto Z, dropped it and shattered the screen. I received a replacement. When I connect it to my car, even when the driving messages are turned off, they turn on and auto-reply to text. Even when I turn off auto-reply on my radio the phone turns them back on once it connects. I didn't have this problem with my old phone so I don't know if it was something in the Nougat update or something I had done prior to the update but I can't figure this out. Can someone please tell me how to turn this thing off and keep it off.
@Steeleio So, Moto app - Voice - Talk to me - Driving (and/or Headset) is switched off, then you get in the car, turn it on, your phone connects to it's Bluetooth, you go back to Moto app - Voice - Talk to me - Driving (and/or Headset) and it is switched on? Or is it saying it's switched off but still talks to you? Are you using Android Auto?

I have the Driving Mode in the Moto app set to off. Once my phone connects to the Bluetooth in my car, driving mode automatically turns on (even though it is set to off). It shows off on the phone but still auto replies to text messages (I'm driving - Sent from My Car). It doesn't talk to me, it just replies to text messages.

I doubt that your issue is the Moto app/Driving mode.
Do you have Android Auto, Automate, or any other car home app installed? Are you using or have installed a third party messaging app?

I use Messenger. No other car, home, or android auto apps installed. I do drive a Nissan but the first Moto Z is had, I was able to turn this off and once the phone connected to the car's Bluetooth, it turned off the auto reply from the car. Now its working in reverse. The settings from the car are overriding the setting on the phone.

Moto's Driving mode has nothing to do with your issue. The problem is the crappy software Nissan puts in their radios.
