Tethering Issues With WiFi on Straight Talk - HTC One X+

I am on Straight Talk with this phone and I have been running the TrevE Mod WiFi tether and PDAnet tether app on all my phones and they work fine...This is my only GSM phone and both tethering apps show that there is a connection but no internet access....and yes I have and internet connection on my phone.
With the TrevE WiFi tether it says on my laptop that it is "connected" with great signal strength but no "internet access".
On PDAnet, I tether using USB and it says its connected but when I open my browser and type something in it tell me "cannot find the server"
If anyone else is using Straight Talk and can tether with this device please let me know how you did it..
My device is Rooted with Elegancia Rom.

If you just want to tether in general, I use wifi_tether_v3_3-beta2 and it works fine with straight talk. But I'm not doing usb tether so can't say how it works for that. At any rate, maybe give it a look and see if it helps.

I have that app, its configured into my Rom (Elegancia). Can you tell me the settings you have because I connect to my computer and the computer says connected but the small window at the bottom right hand corner on the computer that shows your wifi connections says "connected" but no internet access...I thought it was my computer at first so I tried tethering another phone to the HTC and same thing, no internet access. Please help me if you can.

Would you mind telling me what phone you are using on Straight Talk and if it was originally an At&t phone or a ST phone.

I'm running Elegancia Rom, in your opinion would that have anything to do with it, I don't think so myself. I'd like to run something by you and ask for your feedback on it....I got the unlock code for my phone from At&t and they said when I put the ST sim card in it I would be prompted to put in the code but that never happened, I never had to put in the code, I just put in the card and it worked....I asked ST and they said if I had internet on the phone it was unlocked...Do you think that might have something to do with it or maybe even the new sim cards they have, I wonder if getting to old ST sim card from Ebay might get around the block...
BTW, thanks for entertaining my questions.

From what I understand, Elegancia should already have the fix to make the tethering work built in, plus he's been pretty thorough about testing and maintaining the rom so I wouldn't think that's the issue unless it's marked on his known issues list. For the sim question, I've found that the sims from straight talk are somehow branded, so if you put an at&t st sim in an at&t phone it doesn't actually need to be unlocked because the phone thinks it's an at&t sim(at any rate back when I was on T-Mobile that was how it worked for me). So my first guess would be that it's not unlocked and that's why you never saw the code request. I would not think that had anything to do with it unless you were on a stock rom. The stock rom will tell you to dial 611 and upgrade you data or something like that, but again, elegancia is supposed to have already patched that is my understanding. And technically I guess it is working, it just isn't working correctly. That's why you have tethering, but no net access...this may be a silly question, but did you configure the new connection properly on your pc? I know on mine(win7 64bit) it asked me again if it was a home/work/public network and I had to choose home, etc again before it worked(otherwise it gave me the same issue you're getting). You probably already checked that, but thought it might be worth mentioning just in case.

Thats some great feedback, thanks....I did choose Home when it asked about the network. I will try taking out my ST sim and calling At&t about the unlock again. I have the code but I will see if they can unlock it themselves....Man I hope I get this working, I'd love to be able to tether with 4g...

As far as I know you have to enter that code and they can't do it remotely...but they might know a way to force the unlock code to come up or something. Never hurts to try

Att sent me to ST and ST sent me to Att...lol
When I got the unlock code and put the ST sim card in, it never asked me to put in the unlock code, it just went straight into programing ST.
I don't know if it was the flashed rom, maybe I should have used the stock rom. I will try a device reset to see if it will go back to Att settings and push a stock rom and reinstall the ST sim and see what happens. :crying:
When you got the unlock code from At&t and put the ST sim in, did you get a window to input the unlock code?
Please tell me how you unlocked your device. I never got an unlock window. Plz message me with details if you need to....thanks..

Well, I went a slightly different route. I buy all my phones myself and have for a long time, so I got mine off ebay long before at&t was even willing to give out the codes on it. So I paid an online place to get my code and send it to me. Once I got it I inserted a TMobile sim into the phone and it asked me for the unlock code, which I then entered. I know on some phones there is a numerical code you can enter in the dialer to bring up the sim unlock option, but I don't recall what it is...

I was thinking about getting one of those "original" ST sim cards but decided to go with the ones they offer on their site. I read that if the sim doesn't have the unlock code script built in it won't ask for one and since its "At&t compatable I bet thats what they did). I guess I'll try and get one of the original ones....great, more money...LOL. Thanks for the info.

UPDATE: I used a Verizon sim for a sec and got the unlock notice to unlock my phone. I got it unlocked and thought that would fix my tethering problems but it didn't. I just don't know what else to do...HELP

My guess is you have the LTE tfdata SIM and that is why tethering does not work. Tethering connects but you get the "no internet access".
gokun , your tethering works but what SIM card do u have and what's ur apn setting? Tfdata or att.mvno?

I posted a reply to this thread and it appears to be gone. Did I do something wrong?

If it helps, I have Straight Talk and am using a jailbroken iPhone, running MyWi 5.5. Tethering worked fine up until a couple months ago, at which point I could connect to the Phone just fine via WiFi, but not access internet.
Found out that MyWi uses Google's DNS server (8.8.8.8), and apparently Straight Talk is blocking the connection. If you I access websites using IP address, then it works fine.
Might be something to experiment with and see if the software can provide a work-around.

I also have the same problem. Running an unlocked and rooted galaxy s2 and treve mod. Worked great with tmobile, switched over to straight talk and it immediately stopped working.

johnnylingo, that was my problem. Thanks for posting the solution. Straight Talk is blocking DNS server 8.8.8.8.
Changing the DNS server from 8.8.8.8 to "only" 8.8.4.4 worked for me.

[FAQ:Request for Sticky] Atrix 4G - Wifi Problem on Unlocked Phones

Please if you found solution reply here, but read at least first post before.
1. Does AT&T SIM reactivate WiFi, after other operator SIM used? - Yes (in my case), but you may need to reboot (soft) 2-3 times.
2. Does Motorola Update 1.57 solve the WiFi problem? - NOT IT DOES NOT.
3. Why part of unlocked phones have WiFi problem and others not? - Open question, as it is NOT a hardware failure, it is somehow related to unlocking process.
4. Is there any solution at all? - Honorable member crnkoj is developing the solution in this thread
IMHO WiFi related issue currently deserves sticky. Also it would be perfect to have one stop FAQ for WiFi related issues.
Im using an unlocked atrix n the wifi is working fine...
You in the lucky group. Mine is unlocked and none of the many potential solutions get me on wifi (short of tossing a broken sim in, which is a pain...)

1. Apparently people who have one, reported it reactivates wifi after a few reboots, otherwise you have to put in a broken sim and do a factory restore to get it to work
2. It does NOT (not the leaked 1.5.2, not the leaked 1.2.6 and not the prerelase 1.5.7)
3. i think it has something to do with a config file or an app that blocks it (altho im leaning toward a config file that gets from the carrier some info and not really blocks but more like a bug disables wifi, because of some conflict)
4. you can use your phone with sim card and 3g/4g data, while preinstalling everything before on wifi, or just use it a a small wifi only "tablet". I am unfortunately not that good with android/linux to figure it out on my own (i sort of got the phone into a boot loop 3 times now, trying to delete apps/ change config files in the /system dir). One of the forum/irc users is nice and tries helping me , but he doesnt have the phone himself so, hard thing ...
5. Hopefully the released source codes will help, doing a semi custom rom without the att bloatware, which could probably fix the issue.
What about the new update that was just released does that fix the problem?
It seems up to now there is no solution for wifi problem. Several reboots doesn't work for me. Please respond if someone was able to succeed.
BMW, maybe read the 2nd point of my above post, no update fixes it.

I thought the new update started with a 4 but now I figured it out sorry.
It was big buzz week ago on broken wifi on unlocked AT&T phones. Now I can't find even the thread on that. Did you people find solution?
I have upgraded to 1.57 and it is definitely not a solution.
I tried hard reset with non-working card and wifi on hardware level works perfect. As soon as I've put working SIM in, it stopped and even reversing to non-working sim doesn't help. hard resetting every time is not a solution.
Still waiting for final solution.
I unlocked my Atrix in Australia. I shall walk you though my steps to see if you can pick out anything specific. I was very worried about the WiFi issue so i took many precautions.
I bought the code from Cellunlock.net - using the android50 code to bring it to $20
in the meantime I used an old, inactive SIM in the phone and on boot I would just hit dismiss on the network unlock screen and run the phone on WiFi on my home wireless. (WPA2 key)
When my unlock code arrived (2 days) I went to the wireless settings, DELETED my wireless network from being saved.
TURNED OFF WiFi entirely
Turned phone off properly and replaced the SIM card with my active Vodafone AU SIM
on the network unlock screen, I used the first code out of the two they provided and it was accepted
went back and re-added my wifi network, and doneeee all is working well.. hope this helps someone somewhere.
Thanks a lot DarkRyoushii
Problem is that I received my Atrix already unlocked. I contacted Cellunlock.net if it is possible to unlock it second time, but they responded it is impossible.
What gives me hope, Motorola has to sell originally unlocked phones and their ROM should be free of this AT&T crap. So using that ROM supposedly will help.
I have an AT&T Atrix and the unlock code didn't adversely affect my Wifi. I've actually never had an Android that locked onto Wifi as well as my Atrix. It's tight as hell. Never, ever drops!!
I don't see the correlation between the two but maybe there is some weird quirk. Not denying anyone though. I just wonder what the heck Motorola did to the framework to cause that to happen. Weird.. hope it gets patched up too.
I hope this gets fixed soon. I have an atrix with the sim unlocked. I cant connect to wifi, and I cant get passed the motoblur to set debugging and root the phone. This is very frustrating. I'm in qatar so I dont have a att sim, nor do I have a broken sim either. I guess I have a $600 dollar paperweight.

Don't put any sim in it at all then turn it on. You should be able to connect to wifi that way and get past the setup.

Guys, if you have 3g (or in fact any) data available on your sim its not a problem. When the motoblur setup tips up, click the settings hard button (the one to the left) choose "configure apn" (or something similar), put in the data you get from your carrier and bam, you should be able to finish the setup.
Wargame1 I bought several sims at eBay and is planning to check with them. As soon as they work, I'll let you know and even send you one from Baghdad.
Wifi problem is not solved yet. When Motorola is going to start selling originally unlocked versions? Their rom should help.

[Q] Unlock HTC Thunderbolt SIM

I understand that this has been posted several times but I feel my question is a different in the reason that this phone will be used in a lab environment only.
I've been digging for ways to unlock the thunderbolt and I've come across many websites claiming they can unlock with a SIM unlock code if given the IMEI.
Here is my situation. We have here in our lab a LTE network in the same frequency range acceptable to the HTC thunderbolt. We've seen the Thunderbolt try to attach but of course we fail because we can't use our own SIM with all the parameters to pass Authentication.
From what I've read on other HTC phones when you put in a new SIM I should get a screen asking for an unlock code. This never pops up we just get an invalid SIM error. So is there a manual way to get this screen to pop up? Are there any other ways anyone could think of to allow me to use my own SIM for our network? The phone is rooted if that helps at all.
Thanks!
Call Verizon - They can unlock it for free - just explain your going on vacation overseas only thing i can tell you...
your allowed 1 free unlock per device then if you decide on another device wait past 6 months so you have another
chance to unlock the next device you get...
Have you been able to unlock the SIM on the thunderbolt yet - have same config in lab and want to use alternate SIM card for testing
I'd be interested in knowing how this went too....
Right when I got my TB and before I rooted, I was messing around with the privacy settings and I locked the SIM to see if I liked that feature. Something happened and it kept asking me for the IMEI, even though all I had set was a PIN. I called Verizon, quickly got tier 2'd, and the woman there gave me the IMEI without any problems. So if all you need is the IMEI, then all you really need is a good story

hahahaha, sounds good!
So, am I right in saying that VZW is the only one with LTE right now? Pretty much makes SIM unlock worthless (for now) except for those of you who are lab testing and such?
I'm doing Lab work with an Interphase LTE testrig at the moment.
Anyone succeeded with this unlock yet?
Sorry for the very late feedback.
So unfortunately we've had no luck finding ways to unlock the TB. We put a few weeks worth of work into it, and decided we had higher priorities to work on.

The IMEI code can be obtained on any TB by just looking behind the battery. The way these unlock services work, as I understand, is they use your IMEI code to run through some algorithm that will give you an unlock code. A lot of phone vendors use these special algorithms to lock their phones and they take in the IMEI code as input.
Now we did try one of these services but when we put in our SIMs according to other sites I've seen the phone should ask us for an unlock code. This unlock code is what you get from either you're service provider or someone selling the service to unlock devices. Unfortunately we never see any screen to even attempt to input this code.
So that's where we are with this.. Maybe we'll look into it again in the future.
Verizon doesn't lock them. It will only ask for an unlock code if you first lock your SIM (menu/settings/security/set up sim card lock) You'll want to call VZW to get the PIN, you might want to ask for the PUK at the same time. They gave me both, no questions asked.

When I say "unlock" I mean unlock the phone to allow for multiple SIM card use of different carriers... And like I said in the first post, we have an LTE network here in our lab, that is completely compatible with the HTC phone. We see messages being exchanged between the phone and our network.
We need to be able to use our own SIMs so that we can pass all authentication necessary to attach to our network. Unfortunately the Thunderbolt gives a "invalid SIM" error when we pop in our own SIM. So verizon must have some kind of special sauce that needs to be broken.

Do your UICCs have both USIM and CSIM applications on them? The TB is a special case phone, since it uses both CDMA and LTE networks to communicate. It may also be looking for an ISIM app. Finally, unless you also have CDMA running in your lab, the phone may still not come up on the network.
Any updates on this?
HTC Thunderbolt SIM CARD issue
You know after dealing with over three people I have spoken with I have told them that I need talk, text, web, mms and apps the whole nine yards now, I am dealing with some real issues I am giving in and I need someone who can flash my phone or program it to something I really don't care what even if it's a new activation.
I am currently using PagePlus Cellular so if you know anyone out there please let me know, I am ready to do this ASAP!
If you can beat the price of $50 dollars I am willing to listen.
If you put in the SIM card from another provider, you will get a "SIM CARD UNRECOGNIZED" error on boot. To fix this, go to settings -> wireless and network -> mobile networks -> and APN settings. In the menu there should be a locked APN listing. To unlock it, simply press the menu key and choose to revert to default settings, and then refresh. It should now allow you to modify the APN settings. Just insert them with ones from the old phone that you pulled the SIM from, and reboot. I was able to switch this phone to T-Mobile no problem
So, your thunderbolt works fully with a t-mobile sim in it?

[Q] use of a foreign sim

Ok so I (foolishly) bought a galaxy s4 with verizon even though I was moving overseas to Israel in two months. I made sure that the phone was world capable (like it can do cdma and gsm) and the guy at the store said it would handle foreign sims no problem. Once I arrived here I got a new sim. I figured out that it needed to be in gsm. From then on it had the service bar and confirmed it was connected to Orange. Since then I have been able to receive calls and texts, but not make them, every time I try to make a call before one ring I get a prerecorded message saying that my number cant be completed as dialed. I have tried several things already to fix this: to a cell phone repair person, to the local sim carrier where a lady tried using the sim of her own phone, customer service at verizon and samsung (who both told me to go see the other). I also did a factory reset which didnt do anything.
my phone is not rooted and is schi545 ME7. I will root if I have to, but if I dont I would prefer not to for the time being
Anyway I suspect the problem has something to do with the fact that I got the phone from verizon. Every time I start the phone I get the Verizon logo and after a minute I get a notification from the verizon set up wizard saying that I have a non verizon sim and that the sims source is unknown. I also tried disabling the verizon security and was able to make the notification go away but the problem persists.
Can someone with experience with this kind of stuff help me please? Thank you so very much:good:
Are you sim unlocked? I don't think the phone is unlocked. Talk to verizon to see if they'll unlock it.

all LTE Verizon phones after Galaxy Note 2 are factory unlocked it must be a APN issue. Try maybe to do a factory reset and as previous poster suggested do the steps he told you to change the APN or look into I think it's called HiApn in Play Store.
Also try to put it in global mode or GSM? play with the settings.
still having problems
Thanks for all the input everyone but my problem still persists
I downloaded HiApn and followed its instructions to which told me to set up 3 Apns. I noticed that only one of them can be active at the time. I tried with each one active and I still can not make phone calls. Does anyone have any other ideas?

Go to Setting, call setting, disable the prefix international. I have done the same for using Verizon S4 in Indonesia.
Mine was not unlocked either, although I knew this before buying. This is a guide I tried (without success) to unlock it on my own.
Like the last poster, I reside in Indonesia, but I was never with Verizon. I rooted mine and have had no problems since.
Ok so I went to call settings and the closest I found was assisted dialing for international calls and the option to turn it on or off. I played with that for a bit and it didnt work.
I also tried the code and it said connection problem or invalid code
during my fiddling I came upon an app that showed promise of fixing my problem if I had adb shell. Does anyone have a good place to get that? I tried a few that didnt work out for me. There was another that showed promise but it wouldnt send a package no matter what I try
Thanks
If you want ADB, you need to download Android SDK and have Java Runtime Environment also installed. Then, it is just a matter of typing in "adb" into the command prompt of Windows.
Is there a serious conflict for you not rooting the device? The true benefit of doing this is to get SIM cards from anywhere to work, and to allow certain apps to work. Rooting is simply a matter of bypassing security parameters. As long as you follow instructions strictly, you won't have an issue using the phone as it should be used.
yea I suppose I could try to root it. Im just not great at that stuff and am worried about messing up my phone permanately

You don't need to root. You need to sim unlock. Get a hold of att international chat and adj them for an unlock code.
Hey guys thanks for all the help but I figured out that it was just a bad sim all along and that the first school screwed me over
But everything works now

[Q] Verizon to Europe?

Hey guys,
I am trying to send a S4 to friend of mine as a gift... but its Verizon, and there is no Verizon in Europe. I don't know what to do with it so it would be sim unlock and it will work with different networks because I don't know what operator she will be using. The S4 is already rooted and I am trying different rooms. I am out of ideas because even when I put AT&T card inside it seems like it cant connect to network...so it cant work with ours network how in heck will work with theirs. In the end off all of it like a mention my friends is she, but that kind of she that will break it without even knowing it.
If someone would help me out pick the best room for her that will maybe be pure s4 with out a lot of complicated stuff, that maybe would self-update for her and any network friendly?
Thanks
PS. all that crap that Verizon is saying that phone is unlock free its crap. when you out there phone cant either connect to network or have that notification that is not Verizon sim witch is ridicules

The Verizon S4 is unlocked for international roaming. I have a friend who took his Verizon S4 to Europe, bought a pre-paid sim in Europe, popped it in, changed the mode to global, and it worked fine. I use Hyperdrive and have read in that thread about others using the Verzion S4 with European and other international sims. They may have to change the APN, but it should work.

My friend already had S4 from Verizon and when she put her card inside nothing was working... not even text messages... and she had that notification bar still... so idk... cant tell cuz I dint had Verizon phone out there jet.. its my first contract with them and my last I think.. ATT phone are so much easier to deal with..
but for know I need to think of something... for her I know hyper driver but I was using other rom I think google edition with original android? not Samsung edition and it look nice and smooth and easy, something for her but I cant find any room like that with option for international... or I think the main problem is to have option to have APN option so manually I can add network.. for not even ATT cant connect to it...

basically what I need to do to:
1. Make Verizon S4 working in Europe?
2. What rom will be the best for that (self updating, not complicated, could look like Samsung android but I would prefer Google edition for her cuz it might be just easier on long rom)?
3. Does it have to be multi-carrier rom or just the one with open APN option?
4. Any other information I have to consider, since its going to be a gift phone I will not have future ability to look at it at least for know so I need something that might have chance to run smooth for couple months.
Original S4 with nothing done to it, pure out of box. dint work that well, was not able to send messages and they count add new APN. In the end of the story the phone was stolen... so I know I have to make this one work here before I will send it there...

Install a non-Verizon SIM and enable GSM mode. You'll then be allowed to enter an APN.

"I am not saying u are wrong". Actually, yes, you are. However, whomever tried this gave you bad info, I was tempted to ignore this (ignorance is bliss), but in case someone actually believes you...
My phone is stock, rooted. Verizon Galaxy S4, running ME7.
Here's what I just did (I tried this again just to prove you wrong...)
I inserted my GoSIM (ekit, Jersey Telecom) SIM, GoSIM has pretty good European coverage, good prices.
The phone comes up with a "Non-Verizon SIM" (this SIM card is from an unknown source") warning. Ignore that.
Menu/Settings/More Networks/Mobile Networks.
Tap on Network mode. Select "GSM/UMTS". When it asks you "System select" choose Automatic.
You've got to disable Global mode since that will prefer CDMA, which is still working for you in the US in a VZ coverage area. GSM/UMTS disables CDMA.
Now, click on "Access Point Names". The VZ LTE one shows but is now greyed out.
Click on the Menu soft key, Click on "Add new access point". That's now enabled. (If you try this with a VZ SIM installed, that menu will be greyed out, which is quite reasonable.)
Fill in the APN, hit save. Now you can select that APN.
Mobile data is now enabled. It reads "AT&T UK" as the network for me, which is reasonable since I'm using a UK SIM.
As several people have said, this phone is unlocked out-of-the-box. It doesn't matter what ROM you run, you can use whatever GSM SIM you like as long as the network bands that the GS4 supports match what your provider uses.
I don't know if there's something in the stock ROM that blocks US domestic carriers (t-mobile, at&t); that's possible, as VZ has done stuff like that in the past. That's not what you asked, however. At least in my case, a non-US SIM works without anything special to do.

How am I wrong? By saying "I am not saying u are wrong"? I dint tried it... I dint had that phone in Europe... and I dint plug in card... I said she put hers in and when to some kinds a store... they dint do it... not me... and even by saying that I was not trying to offend you... and that's why we have forums so we can learn and ask questions...
either way that notification "The phone comes up with a "Non-Verizon SIM" (this SIM card is from an unknown source") warning. Ignore that." can it be removed? that phone will not be use in US any time soon maybe in 6 moths.. so I am trying to make it look as normal as it can...
can I use any rom and will that method work? I am trying to get her something with 4.3, looks nice and its simpler that Samsung stock OS...

That's something I can't answer, but it's very possible that custom ROMs won't display that noise. Unfortunately, that'll mean rooting it, installing SafeStrap, then experimenting.

The phone is SIM unlocked, so any ROM will be able to work with whatever SIM you install. In other words, the hardware doesn't have any problem with it, so use whatever software you want. However, I don't know if there's any 4.3 ROMs yet that are SafeStrap compatible.

Wow... Pulling this old thread up to say thank you.
I had previously gotten my phone to work on EU carriers but for the life of me forgot how and have been struggling with this for a few days now.
Anyway, I did some searches in Google and kept running into walls and after a few days of [foolishly] not searching XDA I called Verizon and they told me I was **** out of luck.
Well, here I am, back on good ol' XDA and 10 minutes of searching I read your post which gets my memory clear and I remember to enable the GSM option. So simple.
Anyway, big thanks to you and big thanks to the community as always.

Oh, and don't be "that guy" (i.e. ME.)
I was complaining about how poor coverage I was getting. Apparently, switching to "Global" mode versus "CDMA/LTE"
Gee, I betcha it'll work a lot better with that mode enabled here in VZ-land.

Possible GSM use on XT1526? Flashed TextNow Moto E with USC ROM - no success..

To be clear, I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing, and no experience whatsoever with any of this.
Over 12 hours of research I managed to unlock the bootloader, root, and flash my TextNow Moto E with a stock US Cellular ROM. Everything worked fine.
What are the next steps to take, if any? Is it possible to even use a GSM network on this phone? I have an active T-Mobile sim card that the phone simply will not accept. I get a "no sim found" notification.
I attempted this with no success.
To start, su command would not work.
This worked for me on the XT1529, but it might work on the XT1526 as well since they're both LTE/CDMA devices:
root, open /system/build.prop, add the following line to the end: ro.telephony.default_network=10
save, make sure the permissions are still 0644, reboot.
When you check *#*#4636#*#* it should be in LTE/GSM/CDMA mode, and in Settings > Mobile Network it should say "Global".

This didn't work. I ended up experimenting more and softbricked my phone, got stuck in a boot loop. Through curiosity I ended up flashing the phone with a stock xt1527 rom. SIM now recognized as a non supported sim, so that's nice. Still doesn't work.
I cannot post links to screens as a new user, but if you happen to want to see them, message me and I'll link them from my dropbox.
I ended up ordering an unlocked xt1527 last night. However, I would still like to figure this out. Would I perhaps have to flash the modem?

Just tested this - not working. This is a really maddening scenario
I contacted sprint and gave them the IMEI - they tell me that this phone can indeed be unlocked (xt1526), but I would have to do it through TextNow. I've searched for ways to bring up the SIM unlock prompt, but it simply doesn't show up with any of the methods found. :s

I still have my sprint model as well, and have the MSL code. But I have also never found a way to enter it for unlock. I've tried using active ATT and VZW SIMs, and also tried flashing the USC modem on it - still works on sprint / ringplus, but also still won't acknowledge ATT or VZW SIMs.

I don't know for sure, but i did read in another place on here somewhere about an "embedded card" that sprint put in another phone. I wonder if that is the case with this one? If not, all i can really think of is that there is something in place that motorola made specifically for the sprint model. We know its not modem related, so it must be somewhere else, in the NAM, or something like that. One thing i did accomplish was to get another bar, (it had no signal and looked like an outline, but it was there), show up by editing the build prop with a specific line and then rebooting. Odd thing is, its the same thing that showed up when i attemped to flash another stock firmware. The firmware i flashed was for the xt1526, retail us. Which leads me to think it might be a band issue, as someone else mentioned in another thread on here somewhere. I mean, it would make sense with the no signal and everything. Sorry for the long post, just thinking out loud i guess.

Yes, I'm hoping there is a fix somehow. I'm ok to use the phone on WiFi, but it is otherwise useless to me. I'd like to have a backup phone in case my first Moto E dies, they are really rugged. I have experimented all day without success. Experimenting with build.prop does nothing. I export the build.prop text and post it just for reference, if anyone cares to play with it.

I talked to Sprint - they told me TextNow has to SIM unlock the device. I talked to TextNow - They told me the device IS SIM unlocked. So, there's that if anybody is wondering. I've almost abandoned this experiment, but it's still in the back of my mind. In other news - the new Moto E 2015 I received has a yellowed display. 2/3 brand new Motorola devices I received had display issues. Excellent phones, poor quality control it seems.

i got my E2015 from textnow for $10 as a refurb and its solid as a rock so far. I stumbled upon this thread and it looks promising, but im at work and we use citrix clients and not actual computers so i cant run it here, but ill give it a whirl when i get home. I do also believe that its GSM unlocked
Trying to make my XT1526 (Boost stock ROM) work with GSM, and got stuck on something weird. Inserted a SIM card from China Mobile, changed the network mode to "Global" and turned on roaming, after a while it got successfully registered on T-Mobile network, both voice and data. Yet, when I inserted a T-Mobile SIM card, the phone gave an "Invalid SIM card" error, and simply refused to connect. Thought it might be an issue with APN setting, but I couldn't manually add the T-Mo APN to the phone (in fact it wouldn't take any APN).
I think the phone's hardware is capable of LTE/CDMA/GSM. It's a just matter of figuring out the right configuration.

Why so tricky? Why? I am truly of no help, I just started the thread. Learning as I go...funny thing. Upon flashing again with the xt1527, and flashing the modem with a different modem software, the phone still shows to be a sprint modem software.
I wonder if the "fastboot oem config carrier" option would do any good?
DSU is tricky because it involved modifying the NV values thats buried in the radio software and it has a similar access issue to SU. I have (among many others) a Sprint S5 (G900P) and achieving DSU on it was the work of some SERIOUS developers. The config carrier might be of some help, but i havent delved into it yet, and im not sure if id fully understand what it means anyways. Additionally, Moto devices are tricky period. I had 2 Razrs (one xt 912 and one xt910), one of them was GSM unlockable and the other wasnt. Motorola mobile phone division has also changed hands recently, so its direction has also changed. Basically, whats needed here is either a ton of forum scouring or a developer to actually pay attention to this device, or a bit of both
