Need to Make a decision - G2 General

WIth the note 3 and the nexus 5 coming....i went in to return the G2 today but the ATT guy said just come in on Friday and he can exchange it out for the note 3.....I am back on my note 2 but miss the G2 already as I have it in the box so I cant damage it.
Should I keep the G2 or wait on the Note3 or the nexus 5?
Hard decision

It's being discussed here already, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2460939. However I know what you mean. I LOVED my Note 2, and since I got the G2, I've had a hard time deciding to give it up for the Note 3. I believe I'm going to keep the G2 though. Going to go into the AT&T store on Friday as well, and place my hands on the Note 3. Can't go wrong either way though.

Keep the g2 man. I had the note 2 for a year, don't miss it at all. Love the g2. It was that or note 3, decision was pretty easy. Alas skipped the nexus cause of the small battery size. Plus I love the LG ui. Plain stock nexus ui is so ****ing boring man.

Ditch s3 for the n2?!

In due for an upgrade in April. I'm either sticking with my s3 (I love this phone. Ditched the iPhone 5 after only 6 days). OR I'm snagging the n2. Thoughts?!

Both great phones. I really think it's more of a size question than anything. And that's just personal preference. My coworker has the Note 2. Great looking device, but i couldn't deal with it as a phone. Even he got tired of clumsily getting it out of his pocket to answer a call, not to mention flipping open the Flip Cover. Now he wears a blue tooth earpiece all the time. Again, that's personal preference. I personally couldn't stand having a blue tooth earpiece in constantly.
Spec to spec, the Note 2 is a nice leap forward, if and only if you see the significant size increase as a plus.

Upgrades in April? Hell no do NOT get the Note 2. This phone missed one vital thing and I don't care because this phone > Thunderbolt but man this thing should have had an Exynos 5 processor instead of a 4.
Since your upgrade isn't up for a few months I say definitely do not get a Note 2. The jump in performance on the Exynos 5 will be worth the wait. I'm sure the Note 3 will have that chip in it and man is it going to make all of us Note 2 owners jealous. The S3 is a fine phone, no reason to turn it in for the Note 2. None whatsoever.
Thanks all for your opinions. Bigger screen is def worth it for me.
Another question on my mind: when do you think we can expect the s4/n2?
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
I would say stick with the s3 as it is still a great phone, if you are unsure about something then that most likely means that it doesnt have that "wow" factor. Once you find a found your interested in, you wouldnt need to ask anyone!
But if you are waiting for the next big thing, you will always be waiting as technology is always revolving. When something new and great comes out, it will ALWAYS be inferior at one point.

question will be most likely be ditch S3 for s4 or n2 by march.
Honestly, I wouldn't waste an upgrade from an S3 to a GN2. If I were you I would buy the GN2 and try to sell the S3 to try to cover some of the cost. Otherwise wait until April and see what's out or coming out.

Agreed. Then when the S4 or even of the Moto X gets leaked more, you'll still have an upgrade for a discounted price versus 7-800.
If your S3 is in good condition you'll get over 300for it.

I had the s3 right before this. I loved that phone. I finally had it to the right ROM and everything the perfect way. Had it running beautifully and then I heard about the Note 2. I immediately was drawn to the screen size. For me that was reason enough to get it. And the specs are great on it. My personal opinion I would get it.

I agree with this 100%.
I had two G3's all ROMed and tweaked out & I loved them.
I had always wanted the bigger note screen and was pissed it wasn't available on Verizon.
As soon as I heard the N2 was coming to VZ I knew I had to have it.
I gave one G3 to my Wife to replace her aging Droid Charge and the other to my Son to replace his RAZR MAXX.
I am 1000% happy with my new N2. I think this phone is perfect in every way and will be happy with it for a long time (this is the first phone I have ever been 100% happy with). At this point, I really don't see how a different processor will make ANY difference whatever in my use of the phone.
Heck, the G3 is dual core & this one is quad core but I can't tell any difference whatever in daily use of the two.

With a quad-core CPU instead of the dual core in the US variant of the S3, in addition you get a larger battery and a RGB screen instead of the PenTile Matrix in the S3.
You guys need to factor in that the OP's upgrade isn't available for a few more months. By that time the S4 will be right around the corner, which you can sure bet will trump the Note 2.
I'm not one to say keep waiting all year round for the next best thing because you'll be waiting forever. But truth is this phone is kinda old already. Note 2 launched back in October 2012, we're now pushing February 2013 almost. Why waste an upgrade on an old device? If you really want the increased screen size then just wait for the Note 3 which is rumored to have a 6.3" 1080p screen. If I had a Galaxy S3 I would have skipped the Note 2 for sure and waited for the Note 3, but since I had an HTC Thunderbolt (piece of crap) I was desperate to make a move. And so I did. I'm happy with the Note 2 but I just know much better devices are right around the corner, don't waste it on an old phone.
Man I wish VZW still offered one year contracts. I'm never gonna make it using one phone for 2 years. There's just no way
Since you love the S3 I'd stick with it and look at either the S4 (or whatever they call it) or the Note 3. The S4 is rumored to release around your upgrade and the Note 3 would probably release sometime between September and November.

Well that's exactly what I was thinking. What is the likelihood of the N3 and S4 coming out together? Ultimately, I don't know a whole lot about the N2, other than it's bigger than the s3. So I was looking for others' opinions... to kind of help guide me. I am, of course, going to wait and see what rumors surface by then.
Pretty much what I was looking for. Looks like I'll be waiting 'till I hear some good rumors.
I just sold my s3 on ebay as unlocked. Got $400 for it and bought a note2. I love this phone plus i still have my upgrade for the next big thing.
I went ahead and added a line to upgrade. I would of had to do it anyway since you can't use the upgrade on your line if you want to keep unlimited data. Well worth it, coming from a galaxy nexus this phone is awesome. Definitely took a week to get used to the size though.

I'm back from a GS4

I had a Galaxy S4 and I honestly couldn't stand it. Sure, it benchmarked higher than the Note 2, but after 8 days of use some of the buttons stopped working. Also, there's no bootloader unlock for the new firmware yet so we only got root. I used ODIN to go back to the stock firmware and wiped the device, went to Verizon and got my $650 back. I'm glad I'm back here.

I do! :good:
I got the S4 on release and I like it. Just put my SIM in my Note 2 today for the first time since I got the S4 and it really does perform. The specs are higher on the S4 but I can't tell the difference. My only issue with the Note is it's size, which was the reason I bought it. I just can't do some things one handed, things I didn't think would matter. But, if size hadn't been an issue, this guy would still be my dd. Also, since I bought the S4 at release, it's unlocked and running PACman 4.3 and running it well. If I couldn't run AOSP, I wouldn't want it either.
I'm grandfathered in on unlimited data and buy all my devices unsubsidized.

Should've used that 650 for the note 3. I can never go back to a smaller screen, even if it is somewhat inferior from a hardware standpoint.

I just returned a Galaxy S4 I bought last week for a Note 2 on Friday and had it flashed to work on Pageplus.
The battery life on the S4 was terrible even after tweaking the phone.
So far the Note 2 is far better.

I sold my note 2 in craigslist for $450, found a brand new galaxy s4 for $499. $49 to upgrade meh.
Even with a gs4 rooted with cm10, it couldn't hold a candle to my note. Sure, the screen was brighter and sharper, but the build quality on the gs4 is horrible.
Needless to say I quickly sold the gs4 on swappa for $550. Picked up another note 2 off craigslist for $375.
The only thing that can drag me away from my note 2 is a note 3. I just hope the note 3 build quality is better than the gs4.
Seems like Samsung's build quality is actually regressing with each new device

I'm hooked on the SPEN, can't imagine getting another phone unless it has it.
I got rid of my GS4 yesterday and will be waiting for the GN3 announcement in 13 days. Looking forward to a hopefully quick launch. Rumors now say S800 variant is all that will be launching first since the Exynos 5420 is having issues (go figure) so maybe Verizon will launch it right away.

I love the Notes size, other phones seem so small when I mess with apps on em now.
after having the note 2, not really sure what my next phone will be. Tired of dropped calls in my house where HTC phones never had problems. Might try the femtocel route, but verizon wants me to pay for it. Moto droid ultra maxx is interesting, esp since I have plex working perfectly now so I don't need 64gb of media on my phone.

I'd rather go for hardware quality than superficial looks of a device. Looks don't control the performance/quality.

Lg-d800 💛💙💜💚❤

I just moved from a Galaxy Note i717 to the G2 and I gotta say, I love this phone.
I have owned the iPhone G3 and the 4, and then the Note. This is by far the best phone I have owned. Clearly, phone hardware and operating systems have improved over time, but it's still impressive.
I was ready to return to the iPhone family, but wanted to wait on the Galaxy. S5 announcement to see what was coming. What a disappointment. The Nexus 5 was a possibility, but I didn't want to pay the unsubsidized cost and after following the N5 forum here on XDA, it didn't seem like a phone I wanted. I hadn't considered an LG until a friend showed me his. I thought knock-knock was cool, so I did more research and made the jump.
I have jailbroken my iPhones and rooted and rom'd my Note so I could tune the phone to my liking. At the moment, I see no need to root the LG.
....at the moment. ?
Here is what I like most about the phone running stock KK under AT&T:
1. Knock-knock.
2. Very little bloatware.
3. The Pie-like access to Google, Note and Voice.
4. The phone's form factor, with buttons on the back.
5. Battery life is awesome. I might get 5 hours of my GNote before I needed a charge. Now, I can go for 24 hours easy with hard use.
6. Performance. The phone is lightening fast.
Anyway, I wanted to share.

Today, decided the move to the 4

I had made up my mind to stick with the 3.
Crazy enough, my main decision is based on the camera and video.
Played with the 4 in Best Buy and every pic and video was virtually perfect, and watched many videos and reviews.
At my daughter's birthday gathering today, half my 3 pics were crap. Sucked.
While not my only selling point, the cam is important to me due to taking pics and Vids of my kids.
There are of course other points ( root, charging faster, l am a phone ho, etc.) so I know I will not be dissappointed.
Going tomorrow to give down payment, and this time unlocked, month to month, no Verizon to deal with.
I know most of you could care less, so skip the party pooper posts ( mods excluded of course, do whatever you like!).
Just trying to express my feelings as l am the only person in my whole family who is a tech whore, so my tech talk is limited.
This place needs as much life as possible anyway.
Trying to get wife to take over the 3 (she has S4) to move her on up.
Thanks for listening!

Are you off contract with Verizon now and paying full price or are you switching service providers?
I completely understand. I'm sure a lot of us, including myself are on the fence about leaving the note 3 and moving towards the note 4. It was the same feeling a lot of note 2 users has exactly a year ago, when the juggernaut 3 came out. Is it worth it for the better camera and quad hd display? some will say yes, some may no. But in your case, with the kids and taking all the moments is important than the justifies the move up. But for me, I don't want to pay outright for the phone, so I could sign up for edge but I don't want to. But this time next year, the next big thing will be out, the juggernaut 5

Awesome phone. Battery life is insane, camera is quite nice, screen is solid but not quite as responsive as my N3, and I like the size of the n3 better. Which is most likely just because i have been using it for a year. My only complaints are the reception is terrible and the screen sensitivity. I will randomly have calls go straight to voice mail and that never happened on my note 3.

Kicking Deuce on the Beast, Note 3

I was was Note before Note was cool...what's your story?

I started with the Note 2. I remember whipping it out in a training at Capgenini starting to take notes with the pen and the whole thing stopped. Everybody wanted me to demonstrate the device.
I skipped the 3 and got the 4, a classic. Great camera, great size. Onenote came out with pen support and my whole world changed. Haven't used paper since.
I skipped the 5, no SD card?
The 7 was a work of art. I never gave mine back. Cold dead hands..... kept hoping I would be able to trick verizon and get it on their network. After locking my account on 3 attempts I gave up. I still use it for taking pictures and movies of my daughter riding. When they locked out the 7, I got another 4 on ebay. I'm typing this on it now....it's rooted...I've having fun with ROMs and such.
I am so looking forward to the 8. While I film my daughters ridinf, I am constantly zooming to 2x....I can't wait to do it without losing quality.
Waiting for Best buy.
Great post
I also started with the N2. The first evening, I took a call in a pub and remember friends laughing at the thing. It seemed so big compared to the iPhone 4s that (I think) was the mainstay at the time.
Had that phone for two years then took the N4.
Two years later, upgraded to the N7 which is still the best phone I've seen... till my N8 arrives.
I made the big mistake of returning the N7 during the recall. Should have kept it but swapped to an S7E. Even now I occasionally catch myself reaching for a non-existent S Pen...
I have had all the Note devices including the Note Edge and Note 12.2 Pro. Currently use the Note FE synced with the Tab S3. All my notes are hand written and mainly use OneNote and Samsung Note apps.

Same Note 2, Note 4, Note 7, Note 8 And I also have my Note 7 still. Are we secretly twins? LOL
Started with a Dell Streak. The first enormous phone I'd ever seen (I loathe the term phablet).
When it was time to upgrade, I moved to the Note because I loved having a big screen. Then I upgraded every 2 years as my AT&T contract allowed. Note I717, Note 3, Note5, and soon (not soon enough) Note8.
I remember my big phone starter was the tmobile sidekick 1. That phone had aol instant messenger, email, notes, full qwerty keyboard, etc.... fun phone. Then I got the sidekick 2 & 3, and I was like.... wow! these phones are awesome!
I owned all Notes, kept some longer than others. My favorite Notes were the 3 due to all the development it was getting and the 7 simply because how nice looking it was.
Favorite small phone: HTC dream (G1) and T-mobile dash
Favorite large phone: Nexus 6
I started with an N2, I didn't think the N4 was worth the upgrade so passed on it. I had intended to upgrade when the N5 was released but the missing SDcard killed that idea. After that I activated my wifes old N3 until the N7 was available. I was able to keep my N7 which I rooted from day 1 until the end of Febuary when Verizon disabled my service so I returned it at that point. I had sold my N3 converted to Dev Edition on eBay. I'm now actually using my old N2 and anxiously awaiting the delivery of my N8. My N2 is running Octos 6.0.1 so it's not too bad.
I was really hoping the N8 would be available in the bright silver like the N7. I really like that finish but now the colors are so boring. I almost jumped ship in favor of the V30 but the N8 shipped before I could cancel my preorder.
The N7 was pretty much perfect as long as it didn't burst into flames.

Same Note 2, Note 4, Note 7, Note 8 And I also have my Note 7 still. Are we secretly twins? LOL

must be triplets lol same here
I had the original Note. Skipped 2, 3, 4, 5.... Bought the 7 (we all know how that ended) and now waiting on my Note8. When I had the og note, the Samsung super brick bug was a thing. I shook with fear every time I flashed it ?

I probably would have gotten the original Note if I didn't try one of those awful Droid phones first. :/ Shortly after I got my Droid, the Note was released and I really wanted one. The phone game was quite a mess back then. I thought Motorola was going places when Google acquired it and I already preferred Android over iOS. But that never went anywhere, and then Google sold it to Lenova. The Note 2 was out and I decided to jump onto the Samsung bandwagon. Been ridin' it since.
I experienced the same Note lineup as you. Note 2, 4, 7, and now waiting for the 8 to be shipped. I still have the Note 2, gave the Note 4 to my mother, and we all know what happened with the Note 7. Glad I kept the S-pen and extra tips from both Note 7s that I had to return, cause the Note 8 uses the exact same S-pen. Now I have extras.
As far as the S line goes, I had the S3, S4, S6 edge, S7 edge, and currently using the S8+. I still have the S4.

Oh cool, I still have my Note 7. Nice to know it uses the same pen
I started with the original Note and still have it, I moved onto the Note 2 which I loved and had it for 4 years, I truly loved that phone. I remember being on a train with my original Note and a bunch of guys were blown away by it.
I appreciate times have moved on but I don't like the direction the newer Notes have taken. I'm just not a fan of the curved screen, the all glass construction and the tall and narrow styling.
Note note2 note3 note4 note5 (wasnt released in UK so i had to buy Russian model) now the Note 8.
Missed the Note 7 unfortunately
Looking forward to comparing the 8 to my Note 1 when it arrives
Had Note 2 3 4 5 7.
I thought the Note 5 was the best to use & hold, If only it had a SD card slot it would have just about perfect, until the 7 came along.
Note 4 was good but just as nice as the Note 5.
Roll on the Note 8.
Late note adapter started with note 4 skipped the 5 lack of sd card note 7 had it until the recall can't wait for the note 8
While everyone was laughing at the original note I was lusting after it from my Galaxy S II. Was able to get a Note II, and haven't loved a phone quite like that one ever since. After that I went all over the place: S4, Lumia 830, S6, and now off the deep end on a iPhone 7+. I was so set on getting a Note 7, counting the days until I was able to upgrade, then watched in slow motion as it all unraveled.
I preordered first thing in the morning after the announcement. How many of us didn't really need to see the announcement to preorder? I would have preordered this phone last month if they would have let me.
Now I am debating cancelling the Best Buy preorder to order from AT&T to get it a week earlier. $100 vs one more week on an iPhone.

I was excited about the first Note before it was launched based on this promo video. I waited for a few weeks after it was launched before jumping in. Loved it from the beginning. It came with a free flip case which gave it a professional look and it was completely different from anything then available. I had the Note for three years and then purchased the Note 4 which I still have and is still working well. The Note 8 looks interesting but is probably too expensive for me but after its price drops around 30% I will be interested.
Started my Android journey on the Dell Streak. Got the Note on release day. Got the Note 3 on release day, great phone, had it three years, longest I've ever had a phone. Now getting the Note 8 on release day.
I started my smartphone addiction with a HTC Touch Diamond, which was windows. I was afraid to go to android because I thought I would lose my Note taking ability with the stylus...but swapped to the original Droid because of a BOGO plan (which I dropped in water, dried in a bag of rice and it ended up with better performance, somehow)Then :
Galaxy Nexus,
HTC Thunderbolt,
Galaxy Note III,
Galaxy Note 7 (two of them),
...back to the Note III...gave the Wify the S7 Edge,
...patiently waiting for my Galaxy Note 8....
