[Q] Galaxy SII Wifi Problem - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hello
i got Samsung galaxy SII GT-I9100G from the past 3 weeks am facing a certain problem with my phone wifi,
when i activate wifi on phone it keep on connecting disconnecting and so on ,even the connection am trying to connect is working properly on all other devices but it goes on my phone like for some time connect disconnect, connecting, obtaining IP address ,disconnect and then it connects automatically after some times.
tell me whats the problem behind this????

In the WiFi settings on the phone, go to the settings for that particular connection, choose static IP instead of DHCP. If that doesn't work, try a different kernel (WiFi drivers are in the kernel), might want to also look at playing around with router/modem settings (play with channels, maybe update firmware, etc).
The static IP thing seems to fix most of these issues though.

WIFI Problem??

[Q] Home wifi suddenly not working right with archos 70

I have recently returned to my apartment with my brand new archos 70. I use WPA2-PSK encryption for my wifi network. at first everything was golden, I could browse the web and whatnot just fine. as of a few days ago, wifi has not been working correctly. my device connects to the network (pulls an ip address from the router) but when I try to browse web pages or open web based apps they hang up and act as if I have no connection. it works fine on other networks (to limit the problem to my network) I have tried doing a factory reset of the device, tried power cycling my router and modem with no luck. I have also changed encryption types to no avail. i have the latest firmware for the gen 8 series. also from time to time during this session of events, sometimes it will connect to the router, then disconnect and reconnect. I have no clue whats going on because I havent changed any router settings since I got back. the only other devices on my wifi network are two laptops. any help would be appreciated.
you mean you restored to the factory settings ran through the start up all over again and it still won't connect to your router? have you tried any other types of connections or routers?
I had this problem just the other night was this close to reformatting the whole thing. but I solve the problem by turning the device off, then holding the reset button while it rebooted to turn it off again, an reinitializing the drivers.
how do you reinitialize the drivers? I did a factory wipe. and it connects, it shows as having network connectivity (even my router lists it as a dhcp client and currently making use of the access point) but no internet functions work. ive connected to other networks fine.
This happened to me when I first got my A70. What I had to do to fix it (after getting incredibly pissed, reformatting twice, and almost returning the thing) was to set it up to use a static IP address on my home wifi network. Don't know if it'll solve your problem, but it works beautifully for me and I'm able to enjoy the device now.
Just remember to uncheck "use static IP address" when you get on other wifi networks.
well, I set up static addressing, gave it a private ip, set up the gateway and dns, and it still wont connect to anything.
If set as wireless N, set as N+G or G only, latest firmware may have trouble connecting to wireless N networks.
na, I dont have it set to n, I have it set to auto which I believe puts it to g with my archos. thing is, it used to work. now it suddenly has problems.
Im beginning to wonder if the archos tablets are just picky about wireless routers. I wouldnt think so...
Upgrade the firmware
Archos published a firmware upgrade to solve this problem (December 2010). The related bug in the release notes is...
Wi-Fi: fix Wi-Fi stuck after a while when using WPA2/AES encryption mode
The new firmware download link is in the Archos website.
you can download the firmware to your computer, copy it to the root directory of the tablet using the USB cable, and run the upgrade process in the tablet.
... or you can use another WiFi network (without WPA2/AES) and download the update in the same tablet
Note: I cannot send the links, however you can use the information to search the links in the internet.

Galaxy S2 is able to connect to wi-fi router but can't access Internet ??

hi,
I've linksys wi-fi router model WRT54GH in my home & it has a good amount of signal strength to cover entire area.
My recently bought galaxy S2 is able to identify linksys wi-fi access point & connects too with the IP assigned to it, also at wi-fi settings connected being displayed.
Now when I try to access Internet (any url google/FB), it doesn't connect at all.
I tried almost everything about router configuration, restart etc. but with no success
can someone plz help on this ?

In my case the problem was with frozen "WiFi sharing" in combination with juicy defenders "Location" fearure. It seems such combination is dangerous. Solutin (in my case):
1. defroze
2. remove all wifi networks
3. reboot (for "clean" frozing)
4. make WiFi sharing frozen
5. reboot again just for fun
Try to check your router's MAC address restrictions. In my router, as security, I have to add MAC addresses of each device to share internet. They take IP's, connects etc. but does not have accesses to internet
as above, check that there is no MAC filtering set up.
one other thing it may be is the security settings, if you have a WEP Key to access the router it may need the Hex conversion of your key depending on what level of security you have (64bit or 128bit for example)

Try setting up a static IP address for your phone, I presume your network is a 192.168.1.0, go into router settings and LAN setup, give your phone the address in a static DHCP assignment of 192.168.1.5, or any other address in the same subnet your in. Some SGSII's have problems with dynamic DHCP for some reason, some NS had the same problem too,

I have a similar problem and I fix mine temporarily by turning my wifi off, then in wifi settings > advanced, I change wifi sleep policy from 'never' to 'only when the screen is off'. However I have to do this every time I want to use wifi so it can become quite annoying sometimes.
So I can get through however only for a short period of time as it seems as long my Galaxy S2 keeps turning off my wifi even though it's on :/
I had exactly the same issue on Linksys E4200 with my laptop, could connect to network, even to router's attached storage, but not to internet. Restart helped
On SGS2, I couldn't connect to the router at all at first, but fixed this by switching from WPA2/WPA mixed mode access protocol to WPA2 private. But I guess this is not exactly your issue.

Thanks for the suggestion but MAC restriction is already disabled at router

Yes, you are right this is not an issue for me.
In fact my SG2 being assigned with an IP address from 192.168.1.xx subnet.
Also at a same time my laptop connected with an IP from same subnet able to ping SG2.

My SG2 being assigned with an IP address from 192.168.1.xx subnet.
So I think IP addressing may not be an issue.
Also another thing I tried was, at a same time my laptop connected with an IP from same subnet able to ping SG2.
So wi-fi router may not be an issue here, whats say ???
Even I am facing the same issue at my office network. I am able to connect to the wireless network but if I try to access any app I cannot browse. This is really frustrating looks like some issue with the modem drivers.
I was able to browse on another wifi created virtually by mobile tethering. This looks like a major bug with the current firmware. Another interesting thing to note is that the Wifi network has a hidden SSID and uses WPA2 auth scheme.
I have seen a Galaxy S able to connect to the same n/w without any issues.
Has anyone figured out a solution to this one ?
Hi, thanks for your reply.
I am yet to figure out a solution for this
Even I am also agree on the probable issue with modem driver.
I've D-link modem.
Are you aware of anything about this modem that can be reconfigured to get this worked ... ?? pl let me know
The wifi router at my office is Cisco Aironet 1200 Series, anyone else facing this issue ?
I'm having the same problem at work connecting my SGS2 with v2.3.3 Official Firmware (customized for Orange service provider) to a Cisco Aironet 1130 AP. I can see that the Galaxy authenticates with the AP correctly and gets IP from the DHCP server, but it cannot send or receive any traffic, although the phone stays connected and authenticated. At home, I use an Atheros based Fonera with DD-WRT without any problem.
As I'm the company's network administrator, I will try to further investigate this problem, but it seems like some kind of incompatibility between the devices or misconfiguration ....

try turn off the wifi, turn off the mobile data and turn on the wifi again
It seems the SGS2 sometimes has problems with DNS.
Try a static IP and use 8.8.8.8 as second DNS server, which is a free Google DNS server.
This fixed MY problems
I rooted my SGS2 and voila wifi worked at my office finally I have been able to find a solution.. love my SGS2 the Beast...
I'm having this same problem..
I think I've tried all the solutions above, but one (Sorry - noob question):
Rooted?
is there a firmware patch or something that I should know about?
Anyone got any other ideas?
ETA:
I can connect to hotspots (DHCP) and at home (Have to set it to static tho)
No internet
AP works - Laptop and i8910 (had to set static and advanced settigs etc). I've rebooted it a few times, set DHCP on and off. DHCP seems to be running on the router

This is an issue with SGS2 with wifi server using authentication protocol TPIK, if you use AES as encryption then it will work without any issues.
That should be a setting in my AP? I can't see it...
If I get a new non-crappy AP is that likely to solve my problem?
ETA:
Ah - that's a WPA thing? Mine only seems to do WEP - is that right?

[Q] Help problem with Wifi conects but no Internet

OK so I have T mobile version Galaxy S 3 phone is rooted (stock ROM)
WiFi was working properly except that sometimes when I had few devices connected to my router it didn't want to connect , but I have always experienced that problem with android on my HTC Evo and My touch 4g, it seems that when you connect to a router and disconnect and another device connects the phone tries to connect using the old IP which is now used by the other device.
its annoying but biggest problem now with the S 3 is that 2 days ago the phone will connect to the router at least it shows the WiFi icon on the status bar and on the wireless and network info ( connected ) but once I try to open a web page or app like Facebook it will show no connection, Kies air doesn't even recognize that there is a WiFi connection.
I have tried looking around on this forum and on google and have seen other people with same problem but no solution at all.
any ideas anyone?
I have tried forgetting the connection, restarting phone router, modem.
and other devices including my old phones work.
If your getting the same problem with different phones then the problem must be with your router. It seem that it only allows a certain number of devices to connect to it.
No, other devices and phones are working properly, problem is only on the SG3 100% sure not router problem at all , I am thinking something about the WiFi info on the phone got corrupted or something I guess I will try factory reset and wipe everything.
Well for future references, I had to do a full wipe ( data, dalvik, cache) and its working now as intended.
anyone experiencing this problem with galaxy s3 wifi connection after I reset my device it started working again but now after a few days the issue is back, have Wifi ICon on status bar but no connection to the internet at all, this is only happening with the S3 , evo 4g , mytouch 4g, laptop and desktop work without any problems.
Ok finally found the solution without the need of resetting the device. had to use static ip on my phone...
long click network connection , modify network config, show advance options, "ip settings = static" assign an ip and if u need help finding other info as gateway, dns servers etc..
on windows run "cmd" and ipconfig /all

[Q] Problems connecting home wifi

Hi, I have a Galaxy SII from AT&T and I have problems trying to connect the wifi at home, When I tried the mobile is connected just for a few seconds and then suddenly it is disconnected, but the wifi network still displayed. If I go to youtube, fb, twitter or any other application the icon shows the green arrow saying data is sending, but the orange arrow is not flashing. I tried to connect to other wifi (public places or friends) and it is working fine without disconnecting. One thing I notice is if I try to connect at home and start tune in, I will be connected always meanwhile tune in is running. My ISP is Century Link and my laptop and ipod don´t have problems, just the galaxy. I called the ISP and they said everything is fine with my signal and my modem. No I have the app wifi fixer running just to reconnect each time the mobile doesn't have wifi signal.
My galaxy is unrooted, running Android 4.0.4 Baseband I9100XXLQ6 Kernel 3.0.15-1114882 build number imm76d.xwlpy
I hope somebody can help me.
tried erasing your home wifi settings and re configure it?
might be a conflict.
Thank you, but i did it also i removed all the wifi network and still the same problem

This will be hard to debug without further information.
You should try to take a look at the log files of your phone and your AP. On your phone use CatLog to record what is going on when you try to establish a Wifi connection. On the AP side the manual will tell you if and how you can access log file information of the AP.
i'm still smelling ip conflict....this might not be a phone problem but a router problem.
might wanna look into that.

My Galaxy is SII I9100 unlocked, that's why I posted here my question. I don't have problems whit the carrier, it is with my home wifi only. I removed all the other saved wifi connections, made a factory restore, but still having problems. My modem is brand new, I have 2 weeks with it. all other devices connect correctly and don't loose the connection, even my Ipod, also I set a static IP to the sgsII without results. I only have internet for at max 40 secs then the wifi icon is showing just the green arrow (sending data) but no orange arrow (receive data). My only "solution" at the moment is us wifi fixer, I installed the cat log as one of the user responses but I don't know which word I have to track there are many WIFI.
try setting your router to dynamic assignation. I'm pretty sure that is an IP conflict.
Problems started - with the phone only - around the time you got the router?

Hi my router is in DHCP mode, I only have 3 devices connected, my laptop, Ipod and galaxy sII, the problem is present only with the phone, I followed this video and changed the wireless channel and the internet holds for a while but after 5 mins I don't have any response from the router. just the green arrow. Modem model Actiontec C1000A attached are some images of my router configuration as well the log, it shows the elapsed time between connection and disconnection it is because wifi fixer checks the connection and
tries to repair it if it not possible then turns off and on the wifi
I have the very same Problem! Internet works for a few seconds or minutes. Suddenly all downloads etc. stop and only one arrow in the wifi symbol is flashing. Tried a lot of things now. Have no problem with other networks.
What i tried:
g -> n (but one of my devices don't supports n =( )
20 to 40 MHZ -> No connection @ all
Fixed or dynamic ip -> same result
All other devices work great with my thompson router. Disable and Enable of the WIFI give's me a few more minutes with connection. Programmed now in tasker that wifi is disabled with display of...
Greatz

You said it was "from AT&T", so I assumed you had an SGH-I777, which is the model AT&T sells. I stopped reading, so I missed where you said it was an i9100.
Anywho, try changing the channel on your wifi router.
Look at this guy & his S iii; doesn't ring a bell?

So did you try all the other ones?
I tried with all the channels, still same problem, also with static IP and the problem still there, my only workaround is connect to wifi, start immediately tune in, and the mobile is able to receive emails, whatsapp, etc. but if I tried youtube, then tune in is disabled and the video starts the streaming but suddenly the mobile is not getting more data from the router, I'm able to watch just 1 video 2 min long

What should bother you is that you can connect to any wifi network, but your home's.
Burn that router down!
....or try another one.
yes, I will call to my ISP and ask for a new one. Sometimes I want just to watch some youtube videos without turn on the laptop or simply use my wifi to save some Mb from by dataplan

You should go to someone you know who's got the same ISP than you first, try it there. If it works it's your router, If it doesn't it's you ISP config that's creating a IP conflict with your device.

[Q] Connection issues

Hey everyone, I got myself a Z2 recently and have been very happy about it for the most part. However, some things seem to not function a 100% the way it's supposed to.
Some times after it's been to sleep and I try browsing online with it using either 3g/4g or wifi the phone says it has a connection, but nothing loads. All I have to do to solve this is to refresh the wifi/3g connection manually, and then it works. It's rather annoying to always go through that procedure every time I want to use my phone, so I'm wondering is there anything I can do about this? Or anyone experienced anything similar?
Vegard
I have the same issue with WiFi while the phone sleeps or is active (no probs with mobile data though!), but I was not able to determine whether it's my router, the phone, or a combination of the two (though I have a hunch).
When I'm in my room which is unfortunately the farthest from the router, and the connection drops, my Z2 is not able to reconnect on its own. Have to disable/enable WiFi or else it's stuck in an infinite loop of connecting and obtaining an IP.
Now, I'm fine with a dropping connection occasionally given the distance and the... quality of my router. However, my laptop is able to reconnect automatically.
I have tried lots of possible solutions: WiFi sleep policy, static IP or DHCP, disabling/enabling WiFi optimisation or Auto-IP, switching WiFi channels, and various WiFi fixer apps. Nothing worked.
My guess? There is a bug in the stock firmware that makes the phone unable to reconnect if a connection is forcibly dropped . Pair this with a crappy router and you have a recipe for inconvenience.
Unfortunately, I have no spare router to confirm this, and with the bugs in CyanogenMod I am reluctant to flash for now.
Also, I am sure this is not a hardware fault of the phone in my case since I notice this behaviour at home in my network only.
Do you guys possibly know where I could find some logs related WiFi? I wanna get to the bottom of this.
