Problem white screen with black lines "rain" - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
A friend of mine owns a Galaxy S3 and is having the following problem
The phone seems not booting, and a white screen with black lines appear.
We've thought about getting a new screen housing complete, with digitizer, screen, etc. but I'm not sure if this will solve the problem.
How could I do some testing so I can know which is the problem and how could I do a complete wipe to the phone as it is now, if possible?

yea, but before buying the lcd+digitizer housing, I wanna be sure that buying it will solve this problem.

Get another friends lcd test it

My friend could get into download mode. He tried to flash another roms, but the 1st time he got an error, and the second try he waited more than 20min without any progress...
Is there any way to make a complete wipe from download mode?

No. That white screen is the sign of the complete eMMC failure a.k.a SDS. Nothing you can do about it but have it repaired by Samsung either by warranty of by paying for the service.

Simply that depends upon Samsung's policy to second users and proof of ownership .
As far as i am aware they do not accept second users as a warranty claim . But you are going to have to try first before paying for a repair .

use odin tou repair framwork this is the problem for u display

It is not display problem but symptom of corrupted internal nand, eMMc as dackota said. Bootloader is probably still available but Partitions Information Table is damaged and switched to read only mode. You will not be able to flash anything.
You need to replace your motherboard or at least reflow new eMMc chip. Sorry it is so called hard brick or sudden death.
You can check display by entering download mode. It is displayed correctly. Fuzzy screen while booting shows because bootloader can't read data to init system.
You can try to flash only param.bin, same .pit file or anything else via Odin or Heimdall but it will end at Setup Connection and write fail errors. Sorry bro. 90 percent of nand flash chips in s3 are physically faulty. Samsung replaces those motherboard under warranty, but if it's void or outdated you need to pay for repair.
In some countries it is too expensive and worthless. In Poland, where I live, it is cost of 50-70 bucks. New i9300 or i9305 you can have for circa about 200$.
You can check eBay or similar to your country person-to-person transaction platform to search s3 with broken screen only but fully operational motherboard and replace it yourself. It is very easy. Sometimes it is cheaper than repair the old one.

Simple to remove yellow triangle: USB Jig
Second problem, try holding down Power + Vol Down + Home buttons together when the phone is off, until you see a verification popup saying if you want to continue to flashing a custom ROM. Then try reflashing your ROM or kernel.
well, in my country there is no USB jig unfortunately
second i got this problem in my second replay (look image)
there is no use when holding power+home+volume down or up
the same problem appear to me
thanks for your help
I doesn't matter if it's not in your country. Order one here:
http://usbjig.com/
Did you enable any of the checkboxes that were disabled when you started Odin?
Like "Repartition" or "Flash Bootloader" or any of those?
yes, all three was checked when i used PIT, PDA, PHONE, and CSC
There we are. The Galaxy S 2 does not need a pit file, you probably got a pit file for a Samsung Galaxy S.
<Warning information heard from other users>
In another big Android board is a discussion going on that flashing a pit file can fry the mainboard + battery as it will use wrong settings (the settings for the Galaxy S) and apply a too high voltage.
</Warning information heard from other users>
From my experience in that case even the jig does not work anymore (you could try it anyways) so you might either need to send it to Samsung or find somebody with a JTAG (won't help if the mainboard gets damaged).
@prodygee
i hope it doesnt take long time in delivery
ohh, dont tell me that the board is damaged

Nah, as I said, those are just reports from other users I couldn't verify (I'm not gonna flash a pit file just for the sake of testing!) so you should try the jig anyways, because it's not expensive and does the trick in many cases.
However if those user claims are correct not even a JTAG could help but let's just hope the best for the moment, there's no point in being scared beforehand.
I wish you luck and please tell us if the jig worked!
If you want to remove the yellow triangle and you don't have a jig it will be simple..
Flash Cf-Root
Flash stock kernel (cwm for cf root will remain)
Unzip the Cf root you falshed earlier until you get zImage and don't rename it
Open cwm
Choose flash kernel
Select the zImage you extracted and flash
After that there will be no yellow triangle after boot

how much do you think it cost when the board is damage more than $200?
i will try warrant company, then try jig
I see.. Why don't you take it to damsung service center and make a story that you updated through kies then kies broke your device.. Atleast try the service center because it's free, but if all else fails you can try jtag

Warrenty question and advice please!

Hi I think my phone usb port is broken. I have found this repair part of the samsung website UK.
The warranty states that:
Warranty Terms and Conditions
The warranty period applies from the date of purchase by the first customer and is transferable only between end-users.
The warranty covers manufacturing defects only. Please note that this does not include consumables items such as batteries, bulbs, and ink cartridges unless listed under ‘general information’ within the Warranty Information on Samsung.com. The liability of Samsung Electronics (or its appointed maintenance agent) is limited to the cost of repair and/or replacement of the product under warranty. The warranty is invalidated if the defect is caused (howsoever) by misuse, neglect, and tampering or incorrect adjustment. The warranty is also invalidated if unauthorised persons carry out any alterations and/or repairs. Also, the warranty is invalidated in the following cases:
a) For the repair of a domestic product used in a commercial environment
b) For repair due to incorrect installation in your home
c) For repair to any product where the serial number has been removed /defaced
d) Where any ancillary equipment not furnished or recommended by Samsung causes problems or damage that is attached to or used in connection with the product. e
Samsung Electronics (UK) Ltd support a product purchased in Europe if it has an EU Bloc Warranty. This warranty is present where the top of the product warranty card clearly states ‘European Bloc’. If the product is purchased in another part of the globe then Samsung may attempt a repair. Samsung Electronics (UK) Ltd cannot guarantee the outcome.
So I have used Odin a couple of times. Does this void this warranty or not?
But!! I have currently installed official ICS firmware from sammobiles
Here a picture of the part I am on.

Yes. Flashing non-stock firmware and/or rooting your phone voids your warranty. That's common knowledge. In saying that, if you go back to stock firmware & reset your flash counter before you send it in for service, you have a fair chance of getting warranty service (not guaranteed tho). If you're unable to do this for whatever reason (phone won't boot, etc), it's a dice roll.
You seem to be in the former group, so make sure you're on stock, do a factory reset, make sure there's no signs of the phone being left with on it (root apps, etc), reset the flash counter & send it in. Frankly, anyone who flashes non-stock firmware or roots their phone should lose all expectations of warranty service the moment they start doing same.

Crap...I'll have to buy a new battery to turn it on. But how do I reset my flash counter?
Its on 7 atm ._.
Given you're running ICS stock, use Triangle Away to reset the flash counter (search for the thread on here), a jig probably won't work (unless you're running the 'old' bootloader).

i have 2 galaxy s3 i9300 . my first i9300 has a fake imei and my second just the right imei
what if i copy my second i9300 efs folder and then put it on my first i9300 will it fix the no service issue
and sorry for bad english
Sounds like you have at least one stolen phone. Good luck getting help with that.
i installed omega v14 and it change my imei i forget to back it up i didn't stole it
and the phone with changed imei i buy it at t-mobile netherlands shop
And the other phone?
Regardless, you won't find much help trying to spoof an IMEI.
to phone with the original imei i buy at typhone.nl with vodafone contract if u dont believe just dont i want to fix the no service issue
No you cannot transplant IMEI numbers since they are encrypted with (amongst others) the device/CPU ID which is unique and unchangeable for all devices. It would be illegal anyway, additionally since you will not be able to use both phones at the same time pointless.
Have it repaired by Samsung (depending on the location and serice center it should cost you some 60-ish $.
Then, wehn you get it back, do the damn EFS backup so you wont have that same issue again.
okay thanks i have one last question what do i say if samsung ask whats wrong with this phone
Hi, I think your problem is generic IMEI, you can recover your original IMEI by flashing it with stock ROM. Or try to find a repairing shop which have SPT box or Octopus box.

There are so many posts in this forum to recover corrupted IMEI. One simple method is try to flash it with original stock ROM or in efs folder, rename the 'nvdata.bin.bak' file to 'nvdata.bin' and replace the old one.
First go through the original posts and then try the above methods...
thanks i already trying instal stock rom but no luck
here u can see my screen shot of the efs folder .

Um... I think the OP has some explaining to do - since late August s/he has been posting asking for help to fix IMEI in a number of threads - in fact that has been the ONLY topic/question for all the posts. Previously s/he was in Thailand and now it is 'live in Netherlands' - also one phone has a fake IMEI and the other doesn't yet both have been bought from vendors. One has to wonder why s/he wouldn't simply go back to the vendor and get the stuffed phone repaired? Apparently it IS working, (i.e. not hard-bricked) so it would seem all that is needed is to pay a service fee and 'Voila!' working S3.
Logically this leads to a thought about the legitimacy of the 2nd (and maybe both) phone(s) - 3 weeks of trying many threads to get someone to provide a new IMEI seems a little excessive.
Agree this and the multiple posts is getting very suspicious . Plus not the only post asking to borrow somebody's EFS folder .
jje
yup
Closed, you have already opened a thread on this, more than once, send it to samsung and they will fix it, seems you are beyond repaid at this point.

If you have to ask, don't try it. Take it someone who knows what they're doing. One slight misplacement of the soldering iron & you end up with a hunk of plastic worth $0.20
i jtagged lots of devices but never a S2, i don't care to trow it into the garbage after... because it is out of warranty and i cannot use it anymore.
Can u please help me?
As i told u i have the riff and i tryied the resurrection but the log u saw says that i cannot recover it with the riff.
Replace motherboard. Either service centre, or get one from a 'donor' phone with a broken screen or whatever (search eBay or Google).

Question OnePlus After Sale services

Hello !
I had some problems with my Nord2. I bought one week ago and did the update yesterday, but the phone went slow and overheating problems... So the AfterSales services told me to reset the phone with the recovery mode (what I did). And after that I can't boot the phone (screen capture). I can't do any manipulations with the fastboot mode because the phone is locked. OnePlus told me to send it back. Do you think that the aftersales services will be able to repair this ?
Thx for reading my message and have a nice day people !

Either you leave the bootloader open, or you have to send it to OnePlus, as in my case. In my case, the imei was also no longer available. I also got this message if you no longer have a backup, it looks very bad for you. And there only helps to send in. If you're lucky it will be repaired under warranty. In my case it runs under warranty.
