alright, so today at school we were gonna practice this thing that required music. the music was on my phone, but it was loud in the room so i installed the sound binaries from pimp my rom. when the option popped up asking if i wanted to wipe cache or...i cant remember...something about devs...or dvk or dv something lol, i didnt really know what the 2nd one meant, so i didnt choose one, i just clicked ok (Im really smart cant you tell) so it flashed the stuff, blah blah blah, then it booted up, and started the "android is upgrading optimizing the apps", etc. then, it said "starting apps." it did this for about 15 minutes. nothing happened, so being the smart person i am i powered it down by holding the power button. now it stays on the X infinitely and when i try to go into recovery mode, it vibrates but stays on the x (i let go of the power+volume up+volume down after it vibrated.) about 15 seconds later it vibrates again, and then 20 seconds later, it boots up to a black screen that says "complete action using Gmail, go sms pro, or drive (google drive.) If i tap on anything, it gives me the message "unfortunately, android system has stopped" if i click report or ok, it immediatly goes to the X screen again. also, whenever i power it down, it starts back up again even though i didnt press anything. the only way to turn it off is to hold power+volume down, and in the few seconds the screen turns off, hold down power+vol up+vol down. i cant get it to go into fastboot either using N-Cry toolkit, but i only waited for it to work for about 1-2 minutes untill i cancelled.
It is a nexus 4, running akop milestone 1, android 4.2.2.
rooted with N-Cry toolkit.
Please help me out guys! it took me forever to save for this phone, and dont reply to me like "you should of been patient" yeah i know! just tell me how to fix it! :crying:
nexus 4 wont boot or go into recovery or do anything (FIXED!)

Hey guys I need your help asap!!!
I already rooted my HTC Thunderbolt but I'm still fairly new to all of this. I was going through my phone and I seen that I had a firmware update available so I decided to start it up. I thought it would be a quick and easy update so started the update and left the room. I came back 2 hours later and my thunderbolt had a black screen with a exclamation mark inside of a triangle to the left of a little android guy. I couldn't leave that screen unless I pressed the power button and volume keys at the same time. Once rebooted everything looks normal, and everything begins to load up but only 10 secs later my phone begins to power down again and I have no control of it. Once powered down, a loading droid comes up as if something is starting to download, but once the loading bar reaches the middle of the status bar, the image I mentioned earlier comes up again.
If it helps the last two things I have changed on my thunderbolt was I flashed Lean Kernel extreme and installed Launcher Pro....Any help is appreciated, I just hope I didn't do what I think I did (bricked it)

It doesn't give me time to get to my Rom manager
You are rooted so u shouldnt have done that update...
hold the power button and the volume down button at the same time...see if you can boot into recovery....
damn...so what do you suggest???
read my post # 5
yeah when I do that I just reboot back to the phone again then 10secs after Im rebooted, it says "powering down" and gives me the same exclamation mark inside the triangle and the little android guy next to it

when you hold down the power button and volume down and it reboots....doesn't it go to a white screen? I beleive it says recovery in blue......if you use the volume down to highlight it...then press the power button.....it should reboot into recovery.......
alright I just turned it off and I pressed the power button and the volume down....the white screen came up and its now asking me if I want to start update. If I press the "no" option I should be good right? I just want to make sure before I do anything else

what you have to do....is let the phone reboot normally.....then when the phone bbot up...connect to your computer.....delete the radio file on your SD card...it will say something like PG51....zip...then hold the power button and volume down.....then it will not ask you for an update when it reboots...then you can go and highlight recovery...
Do you think it will be just as effective if I took my sd card out and just deleted that file you mentioned?? because seeing that my phone turns off after only a few secs of it being rebooted I dont have enough time to syc it to my computer

that will work!!! take out the card...delete the radio file....should be PG51xx.zip...put it back...hold power button and volume down button...phone reboots into white screen...use volume button to highlight recovery...then push power button....phone will reboot into recovery.....
also..save the file that you are deleting off the sd card...you will need to reinstall after you restore the rom you want...
okay so I guess I ended up doing it the hard way but its cool I guess...
basically I held the volume down button and then pressed and held the power button until hboot comes on like you said but it didn't allow me to select anything other than "yes" or "no" to continue the update or not. It will check the file, then ask if I wanted to update. I pressed volume up for yes. After update, I pressed power to reboot.
After pressing the down key to stop the update, and I seen that it didn't work after 5 or 6 tries (because it just rebooted and did nothing), I just pressed the volume up.
Once it rebooted after I pressed the volume up key it restored my phone like the first day I got it. its a little annoying because now I have to download everything again but at least its not bricked
Thanks a lot man, I completely appreciate your time and effort...
glad you

glad you got it...but all you had to do is delete the PG51..zip file off your SD card and you would have been able to reboot into recovery...if you have the P51...zip file on your phone.....it will ALWAYS ask you to update....
For the record, when that black screen with the exclamation mark comes up, you are in recovery. All you had to do was press menu. I just made this same mistake like a noob, now I gotta wait until my lunch break to fix it.
This is a pretty common mistake
I appeared to have hung my device out to dry a few times now. In the 'old' days pulling the battery and then replacing it would be the fix to be able to restart into recovery or fastboot etc etc. On the DNA holding down the power key until the 3 lower navigation keys blink has worked a few times although I am never quite sure if it's going to work (or exactly what I did). Most recently my phone was frozen in one of those "android has stopped working" messages and I could do nothing, I did the holding down power bit and got a message similar to: "continue to hold down power key to reboot phone for x seconds" x being 1 or 2 seconds on my device. It did not work (and was held for way longer than the 1 second)...after several trys it did manage to get it to work restarted and I was able to get into recovery and all was good. My question- is there a foolproof way to turn off the device or a proper method for doing so? That is when the phone is frozen or when the 'usual' methods fail?
You need to hold down the power button for between 10-15 seconds for a successful reboot.
Sometimes it needs to be plug into the charger or USB in order to reboot. So you plug it in then hold down the power button until the lights flash and it reboots.

i held it for more than 30 sec and still no reboot, doing it multiple times eventually got me there, the good news is i guess is it CAN be done-thanks for the info
i got s3, suddenly it started to reboot itself all the time, what i see is only the samsung logo and then black, and samsung again.
the funny thing is that when i put the battery in, it automaticly start with this loop.
during the loop, when i press home+volume up, i can see the cwm screen for two seconds, and then it reboot again.
if i press home+voulume down, i see the warning in the stock recovery, but when i press volume up, nothing changed, and eventually after two seconds it reboots again.
i tried to connect it to my pc, but it dosen't show it in device manager, and have no indication that i connected it.
also, when i connect it the charger, i see circle, and then a battery for a brief second, and then the circle again.
is it simple hardware problem (stuck power button? even though it seem okay, but it may explain the automatic turn on), or half SDS?
anyway, are there any recommondations? i have'nt flashed it recently or anything like it.

as i wrote before, i can enter to both recovery modes (volume up or volume down) for something like two seconds, i can't do anything in it.
if i try to get to download mode (home and volume down) i see the warning, but either i press volume up or down, it reset itself.

the regular, about flashing custom roms, if i want to continue press volume up, restart, volume down.
either way, it restarts.
any way it is the power button stuck in 1 mode?
If phone starts on battery insertion, before you push the button then yes, power button is shorted out.

Try leaving the battery out overnight/long time, it helped when I got my phone stuck in a bootloop. But that was due to oc/uv...did you try something risky, causing it to bootloop?
no, it was in regular use, nothing risky.
yesterday i dissassembled it and checked with multimeter, it seem that the power button shorting the circuit, so i ordered a new one, going to be a surgical operation...

Problem solved just replace old power button and no problem! cost me less than 10 Euro
So I had the OTA update for 5.1.1 the other day and thought "yay, let's update." it worked fine till this evening where it crashed to a power off state and in now showing the Google logo like it's about to load up and then a turned off screen.
This repeats over and over I can't even stop this loop.
Holding the power button and it just continues to loop.
Power + ANY volume button and it will show the HBOOT or fastboot menu then before I can select anything turn to the powered off state and loop through (if I'm still holding the buttons the menu will show again shortly, or go back to the Google logo)
Any ideas for a solution?
try waiting until the battery drains all the way down then hold the volume down button and plug it in. if that doesn't work then all you can do is contact google support and they'll probably replace or fix it.
Hold the power button down for 20 seconds 3 times. It helped me once with a similar situation
So I have found a solution. Instead of deleting the thread I'll leave this here unless anyone else has this problem.
It seems that trying to enter the fastboot menu when plugged into a USB seemed to work.
It was either the fact it was in the computer, the timing I pressed the "power button + power down" combo, or it had just looped enough times and decided to actually stop interrupting me using the fastboot menu.
Either way, I cleared the cache partition using the recovery and it booted up fine.
EDIT: Thanks for the help, I had tried holding the combo for a long period of time (multiple loops of the booting). I also feared letting it drain in case it refused to startup again and I would have no chance of fixing it.
glad you figured that out! android can be mysterious sometimes. especially when it's on the nexus 9.
Sooo.... HDX 8.9 Saturn... Rooted using Kingroot, and Disabled OTA... and the home launcher... so I'm at the point where windows explorer opens up the kindle, but i don't see anything because I had a password on it, and ADB won't let me install a new launcher to fix my mistake... Does anyone know the fix to this or can point me to the right path?
I guess your one option is hard reset from stock recovery.
You need working adb. I suppose after the hard reset adb access will appear. But no guarantees.
Will that not disable adb anyways?
I said: "no guarantees". but I dont see other option anyway.
Can't get into recovery... What are the buttons to be holding... Vol Up + Power, right?
Just hold vol up immediately after power on.

Right I did that, got in, but it cycled out almost instantly... I tried a few more times, and left it alone.. now it won't respond to anything, not even when I plug it in... argh... Looks like its permanently dead.
i dont think that this is possible
try to leave it in charge or hold power button long, above 3 min.

just clarifying, hold vol up immediately after power on, without holding power button.
I left it on the charger overnight, and now it won't respond...
That is how I got into recovery, then it cycled out... I tried to go into recovery with only the volume up, and it wouldn't let me, and then this happened....
i'm going to hold off until Saturday, and leave it for about 5 hours on the charger... See if that does something
Yeah, so I left it in the charger overnight, and there is no response no matter what button combo I do....
so what the heck happened... I didn't do anything in recovery, unless it did something when it flashed out...
Well, I finally did the factory reset... I have the notification panel and the home buttons panel... Settings doesn't work, neither does wireless, and I have a flickering screen.
Amazon said they will send me a new one...
Search Partially works, except that I can't really turn on wifi to download an apk or turn on ADB using the option... wonder what would happen if I tried ADB now... not much point anyways since I'll get a new one, just loose root.... I can live with the new UI
