My capacitive Buttons don't work - Samsung Galaxy Player 4.0, 5.0

Hi, I rooted with framaroot, and installed a stock kernel that allows overclocking and have installed cwm .
Now my capacitive buttons don't work... Is there a way to fix this? Or just an app that keeps some virtual ones constant on the screen? I have this one that puts a tiny circle at the bottom and you press it when you want buttons... But its annoying I just want regular ones staying onscreen like the nexus 7 or galaxy nexus etc.

Are you sure you flashed the right kernel ? If you flash the wrong version your buttons may not work. Theres USA, International, Kor. Be sure you flashed the right country version and post back.

Floating touch on the galaxy player

So I saw the other day that people have been able to get floating touch working on the galaxy SL and galaxy S2 (here). They do this by editing the files in /sys/touchscreen, which as far as I can tell our players don't have. I was wondering if there was a way that this could be done on the SGP 5.0.
If you have cm9 you could enable this. Just go to developers options and click show visual touches.

As far as I can tell all that does is show a dot where you are touching the screen.
Don't you think this is more of a hardware thing?

I don't think so. Ive used Gingerbread ROMS, cm9 and cm10 ROMS for the Galaxy Player 5.0, and CM9 and CM10 have the visual touches, while Gingerbread didnt have it. So it should be a software thing.
I beleive this here is the mod:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1915158
i think this might work as this is a mod for cm9 and we could just apply the mod to it!

guys. It has nothing to do with software. he's not talking about the actual visual response after touching the screen. it can't be done on our players because its hardware related. On the xperia where floating touch was made, the touchscreen is too sensitive and I believe that the xperia and player don't use the exact same screen. Floating touch is where you almost touch the screen and the screen responds without you actually touching it, just being near it.

This may not work across all roms (I've tried it on 2 roms, worked on ICS but messed things up on GB). Make sure you make a back up of the file in case anything breaks.

I just tried it on shostock 6.2 and it works fine. I'm just curious, what exactly happened when you tried it? And what rom are you running?
U can also try LMT app its free on play store. Works great and customizable.

[Q] Limit access to one app

I'm trying to help out a friend, she is thinking about giving her grandfather an old android based phone. Her plan is so that he can use it to only access internet radio stations across wifi, he won't need the phone side of it.
In order to simplify his usage, is it possible to make it so that the radio app is front and centre the whole time? Ideally, pressing the home button would have no effect meaning that he would stay in the radio app the whole time.
I realise that I'm probably looking for some kind of parental controls for kids app but I would like to have a few pointers to narrow the list down a bit.
Thanks for any help given
Based on my memory, I remembered that there is an app that can modify the buttons. The only problem is that the app requires a rooted android

That's ok, the phone itself is already rooted, courtesy of XDA
Can you remember the name of the app?
If I'm not wrong, it's a tweak that came with the rom

[Q] No effects when clicking on a desktop icon

Hi after I have installed several apps , played with the input and phone languages, installed a new keyboard, and ultimatelly received this "unfortunately the process com.google.process.gapps has stopped" error the effects when I click on an icon on the screen are gone, the wavy effect is just not there and I have searched the whole phone for solution.
R: [Q] No effects when clicking on a desktop icon
The several apps right there might be a problem...or the rom is buggy (many are).
So tell us what rom it is, what android v, what apps youve installed that required root access.and if youve modded.any futher the rom or enabled mods already within the rom.

yes, and it's due to the ripple effect LWP

The rom is the standard one that I reckon comes with the phone.
I haven't had modified anything apart from installing apps and updates.
The phone is not rooted in any way. Nor have I modded or inserted into the rom.
I have updated to jelly beans. And the latest applications I have installed are koffice, swift key, poker stars, and I am quite sure I have been changing settings but nothing visual.

I would try a factory reset .

Some of them are, but some I have downloaded in a different way if you know what I mean. Hopefully I haven't caught a virus or something like that. Now, a factory reset will erase all my data right? And what else?

Factory reset really seems best.
Just make a backup of your apps (use titanium backup) and then restore them
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
that's interesting, because as far as I know, the ripple effect on the desktop (not the lockscreen) is not included in the stock ROM. are you sure you're not talking about the lock screen? you can enable the ripple effect by going to Settings - lock screen
Yeh I am sure. I'm sure that it was there for some time after I have updated the os. Then again I have installed a great deal of software which I think had made my wavy effect disappear?!
And can I do a backup of the apps with no root access I don't think it's a good idea to play an expert and damage the phone beyond repair. Thanks!

Aye, what do I have to do? If you just give me a link to the most current method used, please.
The phone is gt-i9300 international. Thanks!
read the basics
I realise that. But there's a lot of people who suggested all sorts of different ways doing the same thing. All in all if you flash the rom solely don't it enables root privileges in a more effective fashion..? Thanks!

R: [Q] No effects when clicking on a desktop icon
The most effective fashion is the most complete one, not how you do it.
If youre speaking of flashing through odin modified parts of the rom so you can gain root access..then yes thats what i did (just look it up on youtube, make sure you write galaxy s3 international (if international version) and android version of your rom).
If youre speaking of flashing a custom rom which comes with root access already unlocked, you need to have root for that.
Its easy you can find it on google or youtube. Best method for now (or perfectly working one used by the most people) is flashing some stuff through a programm for pc (or mac i think, but im not sure) called odin. Then i advise (once you have root) you boot into the phone and install from the play store rom manager. Thru this app you may install a new recovery (basically safe-partition of disc, think of it as a bios or firmware for a pc. What u need it for is to save ur ass if u f***k up your phone, or to make COMPLETE backup images of your device so that you may restore them later on. It can also be used to flash other recoveries and therefore replace itself, or flash other roms or kernels. Its a MUST HAVE for anybody with root)

use any method, it does not matter at all.
but rooting will not get your ripple effect back. If you said that you had it before you installed something, then factory reset

[HOW TO] Enable soft keys on Droid DNA CM10.1

THIS INCLUDES MODIFYING BUILD.PROP AND SYNAPTICS-RMI-TOUCHSCREEN.KL SO MAKE SURE YOU HAVE BACKUPS!!
I thought i might share this to everyone since i tested it and it works nicely for me so far
1) Go to your build.prop using root explorer or any app that allows access to system files
2) Go to the bottom of the file, and enter the following without the quotes "qemu.hw.mainkeys=0" (MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A BACKUP IN CASE SOMETHING DOESNT WORK OUT)
3) Find "Synaptics-rmi-touchscreen.kl" located at (system>usr>keylayout) that controls the capacitive keys. Delete everything by editing it with a text editor
4) Reboot and you should have softkeys with the capacitive ones disabled
*I used this app http://goo.gl/JUWqs to disable the capacitive lights*
**If you wish to kepp the capacitive keys enabled skip step 3**
**to Reverse this just replace the build.prop with your backup and replace your Synaptics-rmi-touchscreen.kl with your backup**
Enjoy
This would be great in conjunction with enabling some gestures in the capacitive area a la WebOS

Okay, so on any jelly bean device with soft keys, pushing up from the home soft key brings up a little ring with google now on it. Is there any way to enable this functionality with the hardware keys? It's kind of weird having both hardware and soft keys but I really like this functionality.
Any way to shrink the height of the nav bar? It's a bit too tall for my liking.
Been trying to get this to work on pacman... Should it be any different?
Edit... Got it working. But I can't get the backlights to turn off with the app linked in op.

That's odd. I was able to disable the lights. I have my PAC-Rom on Phablet mode. The app allowed me to shut them off and I was wondering, now that we got soft keys, I kinda want to cover the capacitive light with like, tape or something so I don't have to constantly look at them. haha, did any of you guys do anything to cover them or were just like whatever about it?
