NHL Gamecenter - Nexus 10 Themes and Apps

Just a heads up in case anyone else has seen strange behaviour with the latest release of the NHL Gamecenter app. I am using SentinelROM and for me game or highlight videos were not played in fullscreen mode, but rather in a sort of small popup window which made it basically unuseable. What fixed this for me was installing Xposed framework with App Settings and setting a lower DPI than the stock 320DPI. Videos worked like they were supposed to when NHL Gamecenter was set to for example 300DPI. Hope this helps!

Thank you! I've been trying to watch on Nexus 10 since the season started...problem is now fixed.
Can't believe NHL hasn't released their own fixed update yet, but at least I was able to take matters into my own hands thanks to this!

I so want to try this but the app states it's possible that the tablet may go into an endless reboot.
I'm using a stock 4.3 OS with root privileges.
I'm a total newbie but should I still be okay giving this a try?
Edit:
Oh, and do you have to constantly reboot the tablet to keep changing back and forth from 300 DPI to 320 DPI?

By the way, for those who would like to be really cheap, you can install Live HD TV Online.
There's a pretty good channel to chose from called NHL Network USA that streams very well and is full screen.

I installed the Xposed framework and App Settings module specifically for this and it works perfectly. Never encountered the endless reboot. If you're concerned you should make a nandroid of your current setup before installing Xposed.
The reason you would use the Xposed framework & the App Settings module for this is because it only changes the DPI for Gamecenter (or any other app you set it for). You could technically change the DPI by editing the build.prop but that would change it for everything. If you want to go back to the original DPI, you'd have to edit again and reboot. Xposed + App Settings changes the DPI automatically when Gamecenter is launched without rebooting and allows the video to play full screen.

If you wouldn't mind, could you walk me through the steps you used?
Xposed framework and app setting module is a little confusing.
All I found was Wanam Xposed in the Google Store.

This post details how to install the Xposed Framework and modules. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=24267797&postcount=1
Note that first you have to install the apk, then from within the Xposed app you need to install the framework.
Once you have Xposed Framework installed and rebooted, open the Xposed app and go to "Download". Look for the module called "App Settings". Download and install the module. After it's installed you need to activate it. Go back to the main screen of the Xposed app and go into "Modules". Tap the checkbox next to "App Settings" to activate it. You'll see a notification that says module will be activated on next reboot. Reboot your device.
Once rebooted, launch the Xposed app, go to "Modules", tap the "App Settings" description. It will load a list of all your apps. Find "NHL Gamecenter". Tap on it to bring up its settings. Change DPI to 300. Tap the Save button on the upper right corner. Exit out of Xposed.
Now launch Gamecenter and select one of yesterday's games (I suggest the one where my Sharks dominated the Blues!). Tap on the video and you'll get to see in glorious full screen Logan Couture go bar down off of a beauty feed by Marleau.

I think that I very well have a bro crush on you sharksfan. :highfive:

Glad you got it working! Sorry, I traveling last week otherwise I probably would have responded sooner to your earlier posts, but sharksfan had you covered!

Ugh...Of course now that I'm updated to 4.4 Xposed doesn't work and NHL Gamecenter *still* hasn't been updated to work on the Nexus 10...
Hopefully they'll get Xposed working on 4.4 soon!

Yeah, once I knew it was a DPI issue, I figured this would be a working solution, I just preferred being able to set DPI per app (unless I'm aware of a way to do that without Xposed?)
Doesn't matter too much for me at home, since I can watch GCL on my Roku or laptop, but I may have to do this next week since I'll be on the road and will need to get my hockey fix!

CS968 NHL Gamecenter Live
Anyone test this device with NHL Gamecenter app? The app works great on my phone and tablet but not cs968. The app loads normally but will not play live games. Also replay or video clips start and stop every 10-15 seconds. Internet speed seems to be fine since I have 25mps service and my phone and tablet stream fine. When I play live games I get "NHL LOGO" screen. I know sometimes its the network but I have never been able to play it on this new device even when my phone connects no problem.
Thank you in advance!

I have the exact same problem. I am able to play live games on my S4 and old Galaxy Nexus, but unable to on my 2012 Note 10.1. When I click to watch a live game, it says "loading" and then quickly displays the NHL logo. The weird part of all this is it worked on my Note 10.1 for the first few times after first installing the app but has since stopped.

Do you have a certain quality set like 1200 kbps? If so try to put it back on "auto" while the video is losing and try it again. I had this problem and solved it this way.

Thanks for the reply. It has always been set to Auto. I tried all different quality settings and nothing worked.
I have a feeling it might have to do with the version of android on my 2012 Note 10.1. There may have been a small update from Samsung if I recall correctly that broke it. It is running Android 4.1.2.

Not really leaked as Google officially released it...
But yea, in my 10 minutes of using it, I don't really like it. That of course usually comes with all changes....
it looks kind of small in landscape
Most importantly, it works with pixel density set to 160!
My apps show up AND the Reader app looks normal!
Friggin' awesome! I can use Reader again!
Does anybody know why it doesn't have the Movies tab (just Apps, Games, and Books)? Movies show up on my Nexus1 running the same apk and ROM (CM7).
Is anybody else getting several apps listed as needing an update under My Apps. I have 16 apps that are all properly installed and up to date listed there. If I try to "update" one of them, the attempt fails with an error stating that it could not install to the SD card or USB.
In the immortal words of Emily Litella; "Never mind."
Movies won't run on rooted devices (error 49), so it's just as well the tab doesn't show up. I got all the way through a rental purchase, installation of the new video player, and app launch before it delivered that little bombshell.
The update error I was getting was because I had moved the app to my SD card. I moved it back to Internal and it updated fine.
Just don't ask me why I had so many apps that it thought needed updating. I couldn't see any common denominators.

Yes. That's what I hear.
So was the 161 pixel density something that was donw specifically to get the old market to work? Do I risk breaking other apps if I set my pixel density to 160?
The only issue I've had so far is that is shows an update for the official twitter app , but it doesn't give me an option to update!
Sent from my NookColor using XDA Premium App
I ran into an error installing with adb:
adb install com.android.vending-1.apk

Failure [INSTALL_FAILED_ALREADY_EXISTS]
Using 'adb install -r' worked, however. I'm had problems connecting but I had that with the original market as well. I waited several minutes and tried again. That time I could connect to the market.

I get an update button on some of the apps in my update list and some of them just have open and uninstall. For those you can update them by clicking the x1 (or x2, etc.) button at the top right corner of the section.
It queues up whatever is ready to be updated. I haven't figured out away to update just one if more than one is eligible for update though.

Weird! I can't find the Nburnes app in my Adobe suite.
So are you saying that the new Market will always update all your Apps even if you don't want that particular App to update?
I have a couple of free ones that I've backed up and the new versions have Ads, so I want to keep the old ones around. If the new Market forces updates, then I'm for sure passing on this.
It seems to be working great on my NC but I get a lot of FC's on my HD2 running Typhoon CM7

Only if it in group of malformed market apps that say they need updating but don't give you an individual update button in the app entry itself.
I have no idea what's causing this "bug" or how prevalent it is. I've had about 16 (out of 90 or so) apps do this. I tried fixing the apps market links in Titanium Backup first and it made no difference. I also tried wiping the data (but not framework data) and fixing permissions. All nada.
It seems to be stable now. It could have been server side issues at Google (the apk isn't out OTA yet). It could just be early adopters tax.
Error
I downloaded and installed the new Market from the link in the OP, but I get the following error when I try to access the new Market:
"Authentication required. Please log into your Google account."
As soon as I hit OK, the app closes. It doesn't prompt me for my Google credentials, and all my other Google-based apps are running fine, so I'm not sure how to authenticate at this point.
Has anyone else seen this? I tried clearing the data for Market (this would always force me to re-authenticate in previous versions), but I still get the same problem.
Mike
***UPDATE***
After spending 15 minutes Googling for solutions, I tried it one more time and it suddenly worked. Weird.
I am getting a 'Parse Error' when attempting to install the APK. I am sure it's not the file but rather my Nook. Any suggestions on how to fix this issue?
Thanks.

For anyone who doesn't want to do the above, simply copy and paste this code into the address bar when you're on the relevant Google Play page...
Code:

You could create a bookmark of that if you expect to need it often.

Must have a valid credit card and a registered wallet account for this to work
And must be able to follow directions
Thank - jollyb for Finding/Translating THIS fix he found on a croatian forum.
1. Open Google play (Market) in Chrome browser (on your desktop/laptop) and find the wanted app (best would be that you backup the app via Ttitanium backup if you can, and uninstall it)
2. 'Right-Click' on "PURCHASED and select Inspect element
3. Above the selected row you'll see [data-ispurchased="true"]

}
4. Change "true" to "false" and press ENTER
(Having problems with downloading another app? Change the inspect element back to "true", app should start downloading now)
5. Click PURCHASED that will open the popup to buy via Google Wallet so you can purchase the app.
Tested on Google Chrome browser, please post if you've had success with/on different browsers.

People who have downloaded apps from Amazon app store for the free app of the day, and now since the Android Market has been updated to the Play Store, alot of those amazon apps are showing as purchased in Play Store but aren't downloadable or able to be purchased at all since it's linked to your Google account as I guess a pirated app or something.
MoPhoACTV Initiative
Awesome. I've been wondering how to do this. I traded phones with someone a while back and made a backup of all apps before I wiped the phone and I have been unable to purchase ADW Launcher EX because I restored the backup and then the market said it was purchased already but wouldn't let me download it.
Sent from my MB855 using Tapatalk
I also found that if you uninstall the market updates (temporarily) and go back to the older style market, you can properly purchase them, even if it said "purchased" when using the newer market versions.
The amazon free app a day is a great example of what causes this problem.
Man this is so awsome, it works like a charm and solved many headaches of not being able to update stuff..

I have that as well but it is for apps that were purchased/downloaded from the Amazon App Store which is why they won't update.
Using Firefox on-device, I entered this into the address bar while viewing the product page. 'Purchased' didn't change to the price, but clicking 'Purchased' did allow me to complete the purchase as per usual just the same though.

And if you guys wanna just get rid of the "Purchased" status on the Play Store you can perform the topic's workaround (buying the app) from your pc and then while it's downloading on your phone you can cancel the process and press the "Refund" button.
You can even keep the sideloaded app installed on your phone!
This way you'll have the app set to the "right status"
Cheers!

Just a few moments while we prepare this application for use...

I recently started getting this loading screen that freezes up my phone for up to 10 seconds, where even the back and home buttons do nothing. It comes out of nowhere, while using any application (texting, chrome, anything) and I think it happens when I'm backing out of the app to return to my home screen.

I haven't installed anything in the past few weeks but this started only a day or so ago. Anyone have any ideas?
Apps that I have installed:
animgif LWP2
barcode scanner
battery widget
beautiful widgets
beyondpod
catch
cerberus
chrome
ES file explorer
firefox
gmail
google play music/etc
instagram
mx player
netflix
nova launcher (perhaps this is the culprit?)
pandora
phone info
pixlr express
pocket
pulse
quadrant
reddit sync
simple calendar widget
simple text
snapseed
speed test
swype beta 1.4
wunderlist
I suppose I might start uninstalling apps one by one every day until it stops...?
Questions go in the QA section, not general
I'm pretty sure that it's not nova launcher... next time after you see that popup, go to settings / applications manager / running-tab, and check which apps are running.
Edit: or try to find that app from recents list by long pressing home button.
maybe swype updating
Not swype. I don't have it installed on my Verizon GS3. Nothing in recents. Just happened to me during reboot. In fact, it was preparing sdcard for use ( I don't think that they are connected - this is just to give you an idea of how fast). I don't have my phone set up for the hand - swipe screen capture. During this, the phone is totally useless - no home key, no menu button, or back button. LOCKED.
I'm seeing the same thing, and a search brought me to this thread. I took your list of apps and deleted the ones that I don't currently have installed, which leaves:
barcode scanner
beautiful widgets
chrome

firefox
gmail
google play music/etc
netflix
nova launcher (I just deleted it on mine since I'm using APEX right now)
pandora
same problem

Any updates on this? I've been seeing the same thing as well over the last 2 weeks. Running 4.1.2 stock rooted on Verizon.
I think that his issue had something to do with Verizon's Backup Assistant; whenever I would open up "storage" in the settings, I would see the Backup Assistant trying to figure out how much space is left, and then while that was occurring, I consistently got the "please wait while we prepare this application for use" message.
I froze Backup+ Media 2.0, and I have not seen the message since then.

Both phones are getting this since January update. Also get a message that seems to be hitting global roaming with the message that
E9haBNy is getting about an 800 number to call -- Verizons. I've called VZW twice and they "don't know anything about it."
I just tried opening My Verizon Mobile app on both phones and it pops the same message. I think we may have found the culprit, but we need to convince Big Red they caused the problem.
Possible solution....
I recently experienced this bizarre behavior when trying to view available storage under the settings. The stupid message would get in my way and go from saying "Just a few moments while we prepare this application for use" To an error saying "Sorry, we're having trouble connection..." I checked under running apps and services and found one called, VZWAPN... which I force stopped. I then toggled back to the storage page and the error was gone.
This has got to be a glitch since going under the storage really doesn't have anything to do with the APN settings.
Further notes: If your phone is rooted you can use the Titanium Backup app to freeze the VZWAPNServices which doesn't remove it from the phone but will prevent it from running. If you have Verizon as your carrier freezing it may cause undesired behavior but you can always test it by freezing and if needs be defrosting the service. I'm on Cricket so I don't have any need for verizon's APNs.

No more YouTube?

My wife's KFHDX 8.9 just updated in the past few days, and the new update seems to be blocking all Google Play software from running. For example, we have Youtube installed via 1mobile, but when you run it, you get a popup saying that it's "not supported" and then it closes out. WTF...
I don't need/want root... I just want to run normal apps. I'm ok with not being able to login to Google apps, too... but disabling Youtube like this? Really? What's the purpose, other than annoying customers?
We tried running Youtube via Firefox as well, and it does the same thing. Are we doing something wrong, or is this just what we're reduced to now? I HAVE to use Silk and nothing even remotely related to Google?

FYI, I'm using the Dolphin browser (v10.3.0) along with Dolphin Jetpack (v6.1.0) and Adobe Flash player (v11.1.115.81) on a stock KFHDX7, running v13.3.2.2, and YouTube videos are working OK for me. You might try again as YouTube might have had problem with the video you were trying to access earlier? There would be quite an uproar and revolt if YouTube is blocked completely.
[Edit] Forgot I had Firefox (v28.0.1) installed too, just tried it, and YouTube videos work on that too. [/Edit]

Can you tell me what version you have of Youtube and FireOS? Maybe I have some weird mismatch?
Installed YouTube app (v5.3.32) from 1Mobile, and that works for me as well on my stock KFHDX (v13.3.2.2), FYI.
[Edit] Sideloaded YouTube app (v5.5.27) from PlayStore, and when opened, I got the following error pop-up:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}

Installed TubeMate (v2.2.2.573) from the Amazon AppStore, and YouTube videos works with this app too. FYI. [/Edit]
Try version 4.1.23. It's an old version but runs and allows sign in.

Excellent - thanks for the answers. I'll give them a try.
tl3, that's the exact message I get... so hopefully the other versions will get us back on track. I'll try to detail what I did, and which versions I have, and report back...
Edit: Yup, that did it. I was running Youtube 5.5.27 and it was causing this problem on 14.3.2.2. Downgraded back to 5.3.32 and all is back to normal again. Still, this means at some point in the future, you'll have to use a new YT app, and it will be blocked by FireOS? Pathetic. If this wasn't my wife's tablet, I'd be returning it to Amazon while giving them a hell of a stink...
Thanks for your help, everyone... don't update those YT apps!

In this instance, Amazon cannot take the full blame here... it isn't just a matter of them blocking the YouTube app. Amazon has a role in this skirmish, but the main culprit here is Google this time. They've strategically redesigned their apps, including YouTube, to be integrated into their Google services framework rather than remaining as a standalone app--like it was with previous versions. This is Google's conscious business decision and effort to counter closed systems like Amazon's Fire OS--each just trying to defend and protect their own turf/ecosystem. Google could have updated the app such that it could be more universally usable and user-friendly--allowing users a choice to participate in their service framework or remain as a standalone app... Google provides, supports and maintains a YouTube app for the iOS that doesn't support the Google services framework--so why not the Fire OS too? These tit-for-tat maneuvers will only escalate and make each ecosystem even more proprietary and closed which is totally contrary to the openness of Android. Amazon started all this with their Fire OS...

I have youtube version 5.3.32 and fire os 14.3.2.2 ... YouTube was installed via play store when I had oroginal root.
Thanks for the detail, Tomen8r... as I mentioned above, I downgraded my YT app, and am back to functionality... I believe I'm running the same version you listed.

tl3: I understand what you're saying, but I don't necessarily agree. The issue is that Amazon is actively blocking GPS (Google Play Services)... they don't have to do that, but they choose to. Think of it this way, you can install Firefox or Chrome on Windows, and MS doesn't block it... they don't have to support it, but that's totally fine. In the same vein, Amazon could just "not support" these apps, but actively blocking them is just being an ass. That's what I take issue with here... and that's why I blame Amazon for this situation...
Again, thanks for the well-reasoned explanation. It does make sense, to a point... but hopefully you can see where I'm coming from better. I'm not asking for something crazy. I'm just asking for software that CAN run on the platform to be allowed to run.

Can't find apps in Playstore. VS996

I am having a hard time finding apps in the Play Store (Example: Pinterest) and was wondering if anyone else is experiencing the same? I've tried all of googles troubleshooting steps including deleting cache and uninstalling updates. Signing out and back into google, along with a reset under settings. LG told me that I would have to send my phone in to check for hardware problems.
I can find the apps when I google search them. When I click the information tile to install, a blank window appears saying "Retry". When it goes to open the app in the play store from google search, it says "This device is not compatible with this version". But if I go to search and download the APK from a mirror site with the same version number it installs fine. So I can still access the apps, it's just very tedious.

Nope, the most I've messed with as far as settings go is animation scaling. I went to look for Pinterest again in the app store and it's there with an update.... But I still can't download Groupon, Tinder and a few others yet. Could it be the apps don't support the V30 screen ratio yet or? I'm a noob when it comes to all of this, it's been like this though since I first got it in October. Kind of annoying that it works when I finally ask someone. Thanks for the quick reply!

Yeah I guess I will just have to keep checking back for either updates to the app or to see if more apps eventually pop up. I'm really enjoying the phone otherwise and don't wanna wait the two weeks for them to look it over and tell me that I just have to wait for an update. I've updated to the most recent Google play store app via mirror site. So we shall see, thanks again for your help! :good:

Before now, were you using a Google Play app from a mirror site?
If so, the mirror site apk may be your problem. Those are usually coded for either specific DPI or "all", which may not be what our phones require.
Just throwing out ideas...

I had to force a manual update of the play store! The apps are now there. I had downloaded the play store from a mirror and used it to see if that would work. When it didn't, I reset my play store as suggested in the google trouble shooting settings. But the store is updating now and all apps that weren't appearing, now are! Here's what it was on before, and what it updated too. IDK why a forced time and date update didn't jumpstart it but oh well it's fixed haha.
