None of these tips are revolutionary, but they do work. Here's some things I did to eliminate lag.
1. Installed clean rom (optional, but c'mon, just do it)
2. Installed Nova launcher
3. In Nova settings go to look & feel > scroll speed > choose stock.
4. In Nova settings go to look & feel > animation speed > choose stock
5. In phone settings go to lock screen. Change unlock animation to dewdrop.
Phone is buttery smooth now. Changing the Nova scroll and animation to stock made the most difference. And dewdrop has the least amount of lag of all the other animations. These steps seem simple, but they made a big difference for me.
That's all bull sh!t. I shouldn't have to do all that also installing clean rom isn't an option for me because I'm on tmobile and I will lose the ability to use wifi calling.
I just exchange my first G2 cause of the lag issues I was having with it. If this second unit lags the same, then unfortunately I need to exchange it for a different phone and I'll eat the cost of the restocking fee.

Or you can disable animations in development settings. I personally don't have much lag.

Is it the studder of transition of the tabs in phone, music, settings app lags that you're talking about?
If it is, i think it is normal.

People seem to be having varying results with this phone. Some aren't experiencing any lag at all. Some people are a little more anal about it. (I'm in that camp). But I think it's bullsh!t too. We shouldn't be having this problem at all given the specs on this phone.

I think we all know that and maybe if development picks up for this phone, then maybe the lag issue will be a thing of the past. But I unfortunately just don't think this phone will be popular enough to warrant a development community.
Unfortunately I upgraded from the HTC One and that phone was so buttery smooth compared to the G2. I have some regrets on ebaying it off
I wanted screen size and battery life which is the only reason why I sold the HTC One.

Like the optimus, I think we're going to see quite a boost in development for this phone. It's already rooted and has insane specs plus nexus 5 will be similar to it.
That equates to Dev support in my opinion.
Guys the kernel is from Jan 2012 source, it is old. Wait for an update or a linaro kernel, it isn't the hardware.

Personally, I really don't see any lag issues with mine. I have the VS980
I have the Verizon version too. I saw slight redraw with a billion apps open, but once I installed Clean rom I haven't seen a bit of lag and redraw. I think people are overreacting or I got very lucky. Then again I'm not one to put widgets everywhere and have 3 home pages filled up, etc..
Lag? I have no idea what people are talking about.

I've experienced very brief & minor launcher redraw maybe once or twice since I got this phone on Tuesday night at T-Mobile. I'm testing the phone and the network during my 14-day window. And that's with animations and the clock/weather widget. I deleted everything from the other home screens, though.

Yes, I get choppy lag while scrolling through the XDA app, or also on the market. It is annoying.
Figure out which app is causing it and close it. Pulse Is usually what causes mine to do that.

Just did it, I forgot about the piss yellow and doo doo brown theme lol, but yea the choppy scrolling is gone. I always thought its because of the huge animated banners.
It's funny i was about to ask about this..I've gotten slow.lag scrolling sometimes and other times not..im rooted and oc'd to 1.8 using setcpu (until I can figure out the daemon) ..I noticed whenever I lagged setcpu had my CPU running like 300mhz..even when set to performance. All I want is for my CPU to go to the speed i select when the screen is on and back down when its off ..but instead it seems to bounce around too much..I noticed when I turn up both freqs up to 1.8 my browser is butter smooth..I get about 8000 in cf bench.. I wish I can get it to stay like that without having to keep it running so high while sleeping

Hmm...i didnt expect this from google.
Thats nowaday a crappy way of desinging a OS.
They need to make more improvements.

Have you seen Windows Phone 7? It's sooooooo smooth its not even funny. I mean, it makes me smile every time I'm typing a text message and I switch it to landscape mode. In fact I switch between them because it just makes me smile.
On Android on the other hand.... its just plain bad and choppy even on a dual core device.
The accelerometer has always been one thing that I absolutely hate about Android. Its way too slow. On Windows Phone 7 its INSTANT. On Android its a wait of between 2-5 seconds. Very annoying. And when it finally changes orientation, the transition is crap. It doesn't even exist! (Although Motorola has added one in its Gingerbread builds)

you mean the touch wiz widgets? I was able to load touchwiz wigets on my skyrocket when using launcher pro. I will try on my GNote. I have launcher pro set up but use touch wiz on my GNote.
EDIT: On my skyrocket using launcher pro, I can install any of the touch wiz widgets. Using the Galaxy Note with launcher pro when I try to install the digital clock or accu weather it says "not enough room on this screen" even though there is nothing on the screen. Interesting. Beautiful widgets works fine...
I'm pretty sure the twitter app on the international note does that as well. To me it just seems like people are phishing for instances where the phone lags. This is apparent at least for the mobileburn video, especially when he was in the browser. I don't believe it to be that concerning, personally. While its important to take note of these things, I say sit back, relax, and enjoy the experience.

He actually didn't find lag in any of the phones basic operation which is what would be optimized. He only found lag in a few specific apps. Making the culprit a software issue for those apps and not a hardware problem necessarily. I know for sure on all the android devices I have the twitter apps lags bad. So as far as I'm concerned there is no noticible lag anywhere. The browser functions were smooth as ever, except for the tab switching which iirc happens on the Int. Note as well.

dont worry about lag.i have international version.only time u will see lag is when u wake the device.its because,on the note cpu runs at 200mhz while the note is sleep and does not kick at higher cpu clock unless u launch a app.most of time cpu stays at 200 even scrolling thru touchwiz and app drawer making battery last almost two days.just think of a device running 400mhz with touchwiz.it will be slow as ****.but galaxy note runs pretty good even at lowest cpu clock.you will never see a lag browsing web or playing games.

I am not a gamer but from my experience with my GNote and what I have seen in the videos, they are comparable. I think mintu123 was saying that even with the international GNote, you will see come lag when scrolling between screens and the app drawer because the CPU is not running hard and kicks up the speed when you need the processor for apps etc.
I'm not terribly bothered it only has small but noticeable kicks of lag. But wtvr. I love this beast.

picky are we? lol
here is the thing brother..... you gotta keep this in mind, when these devices are designed/programmed(but this has mostly to do with the programming aspect) the developers try to find a healthy balance between performance and battery efficiency. every now and then you may see it sputter ever so slightly, but it is intentionally designed that way. your other option is to have your GPU in overdrive every time you even breathe on your screen and suck your battery every time you send a text.
don't be so picky. you have a 400mHz GPU with multi-point rendering capability.... it's not the hardware brother....
Sense 4.0 lags sometimes, it sucks but I don't think we can totally eliminate it. I notice it on different occasions, usually when I wake the phone up or open the app drawer.

you are basing "better" on blips in the user interface? lol come on maannn
and for the record... every nexus i have picked up was laggy as balls.... maybe that has something to do with the fact that it has the same GPU in it as the OG nexus
just sayin
i mean if it is TERRIBLY BAD then i would say it is the rom you are on, some misc tweak, maybe your 2d forced rendering isn't checked under the settings, who knows.... but i have had mine for a week now and have maybe seen it sputter like once. and i use it pretty heavily.
The EVO is better for some coming off different phones with completely different hardware. The evo 4g vs LTE is a no brainer. LTE wins. The nexus on the otherhand has similar specs as the EVO. (Dual core, ics, screen resolution?) Anyways you get the point. Get a phone based on personal preference. Not because its "the next big thing" the nexus is a great phone for some. Definetly not for me. Hence the reason why I got the LTE rather than the ole so stunning S3 or nexus..
hardware is beyond than extraordinary. Root the beast and unleash its full potential (when the proper Roms are fully functional). Or wait out official HTC updates.. my 2 cents

The only stuttering or lag I get is sometimes on my lockscreen. I am using the weather lockscreen and the weather will stutter it's way in instead of being fluid. I think it is just the phone coming out of sleep.

I’ve actually noticed this as well and I agree that it’s a little annoying. When scrolling in pretty much any app, my finger will move about 0.2” before the screen reacts. Once it realizes that my finger is on there, there is no problem tracking.
I downloaded Touch Test from the market and confirmed that this is not a hardware issue. In that app, the moment my finger touches the display, it begins tracking. The lock ring also moves immediately on the lock screen, so it must be something in certain apps.
I have noticed lag in the browser when scrolling when I have flash enabled. I noticed on my Galaxy S2 that when I would scroll down a web page with flash content, any flash content that is active continues to to be active while scrolling and it was VERY smooth. On the EVO LTE however, anything active flash content will become inactive. The lag I have experienced seems to be when the Evo takes a split second to "pause" any active flash before it begins scrolling. The more flash on a page, the more lag I experience. I've simply turned off my flash player. It's annoying to have to do that, but I have come to terms with it.

I know what your taking bout, this was the reason I took back the one x after a week and ended up with the S3. I did noticed it a bit when I played with the ONE at the store but not enough to not buy the phone.
I'm not an addict I just flash a lot.

Does anyone know if flashing a custom ROM on the one x took care of this issue?
I'm not an addict I just flash a lot.
I just flashed trickdroid....gunna try that out...I know on the one x vipers Rom helped...so maybe when more development comes along there will be better management...it's definitely better then the one x was tho the more I use it

Ok didn't help...have 8 windows open and came back to this thread which was in a saved state and it refreshed on me
Well mine arrives tomorrow. We'll see if it chases me away again. Hopefully it doesn't. I'm super excited for the phone but no matter how amazing the hardware if the software can't multitask properly I have to return it. I primarily read online and if my web pages keep reloading I'll just get annoyed.

If all else fails, you could setup the XPosed framework (requires Root) on your phone and use the App Settings module to force the browser to never close in the background (tick the Resident option I believe). http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2072081

Thank you. I'll keep that in mind. I may not touch root or anything until my 15-30 days are up to return it though. I just remember how bad things were on the HOX. No matter the rom or tweak they could never get it fixed. It just drove me off the device eventually. Having a little pre-device buyers remorse at the moment but we'll see this afternoon! Thank you for the future reference though.

I myself am torn. This phone is so nice but oddly I'm not over excited about it for some reason....maybe I've stuck with Samsung's too long ...no but seriously the screen and speakers are phenomenal and sense 5 is very nice, tho I could do without the feed...does the buyers remorse start in the day of receiving the device correct?

So there is still no solution or workaround to gain true multitasking yet ? Surprised I havent heard anything about this in video reviews so far.

Well from what Ive read on the international forums people say the multitasking is good one this phone...like I've said I've only ever owned samsungs and this is my second attempt at an HTC phone...so my opinions may be biased so to speak...but from my experience multitasking on my gs3 worked much better then the htcs I've tried...again use it own opinions on it...I'm not knocking HTC at all...I like both companies...

So to you lucky bastards that already have the ONE what's the verdict on multitasking? Are the web apps still reloading when clicked on? This is the reason I took the ONE X back too
Flash much?
I think it only refreshes if it falls off the multitasking screen.
Never mind. It's as bad as the hox for browsing.

So u notice it too? Mines seems very selective...some times I can have xda open to a post...do something else...come back and it's fine...others it refreshes and bump me back to the main page...also (not sure if it's a Netflix thing) but if I pause a video and come back it'll return me to the main screen as well...is there a task manager where I can free up some ram?
I really want to love this phone it's so nice ....I hate to say it through not too crazy bout the camera quality....

This scares me about the phone. I was about to pick it up tomorrow but now I am second guessing myself. I really did hate the HOX multitasking. Where I work the Internet is slow, I don't want to have to wait for all the reloads.

Yeah. It's no where near the Galaxy S or Note lines. I don't really know why HTC cripples it to be honest. It's not bad, but it's not good. I mean, a lot of us don't swap out batteries. If HTC is going to cripple multitasking and memory management to improve battery life they should follow their own "studies" that most people don't use extra batteries and just keep it normal.
Yeah I'd rather have to charge it then have my phone refreshing all the time.

Well I either gotta deal the phone or sell it didn't realize I coukdnt bring it back to stock to return it once it was unlocked

Yeah I honestly am probably not going to root or unlock this one. I don't mind it stock to be honest. And it seems to cause more trouble than it's worth.
My only part pave with this phone is that it sometimes stutters. Just slightly, no serious lag. Since I know even the s4 is javing soke slight lag, I am goingbto have to assume it is A. Touchwiz B. The verizon bloat, or C. (Most likely) both. Does anyone jave any tips to try to cut out this slight lag? I mostly just want to know if this is normal. Pretty sure it is, but you can never know. Thanks guys!

I would love to take a crack at this, but I have some questions.
1. What Launcher are you running?
2. What Kernel are you running?
3. What ROM are you running?
4. Do you get any Force Closes?
Completely stock at the moment, just got it a couple of days ago. I an using the touchwiz launcher, but niva slightly lags in the app drawer as well.

I recommend Nova Launcher, its a little faster and gives a stock look. I never run stock, I do not like Bloat and I do not like Carrier IQ.
Been running nova for a while, thought id change it up. Also the carrier bloat sucks, but I actually like touchwiz.

I would say Root, Install a Custom ROM, Odex even...
Not going to flight now, but maybe later. Does anyone have any other suggestions/ is this normal for the regular bloated stock?

Developer Options ---> Window animation scale (set to off), Transition animation scale (off), Animator duration scale (off)
Made everything snappier and now I notice no lag at all.

I agree 100%, with these same changes my N2 didn't lag at all even stock.
While I agree that VZ bloat sucks just on general principle (why I run Beans myself), it really does not cause lag.
A properly setup TW ROM runs every bit as smooth as any custom ROM.
I actually already tried those things, but I like my animations, but maybe I'll give it another shot. S o basically it is just the animations? I don't think it is the hardware as it runs games and benchmarks fine, with no over heating issues..

Well ended up just doing that. I do like some of the ani, ations that are no missing, but now it is super fast. I think i expect to much out of my devices, my note 2, nexue 7, and galaxy nexus all have slight stuttering issues( not completely buttery). Oh well, thanks guys
