Hey all,
I and many other Galaxy Mega owners on this forum have been experiencing issues with poor/spotty signal that in return drains battery life.
This is an issue that is very real. I have tested in different places a Mega next to a Note 2 and an iPhone.
The results shows that while Note 2 and iPhone have full signal strength, the Mega struggles to keep 3 out of 4 bars, and most of the time it stays at 2 bars. I noticed this issue and returned the Mega for a new one, the new one had the same issue.
Someone on here had a theory that it was only a problem that occured with European users, but I dont know why that would be.
Anyway, is there someone out there that could help us noobs out and look into this issue?
I really love the phone, but the spotty signal issue is quite annoying to say the least.
For those of you who share the same issue, please raise your voice.
If you have a serious problem talk to your carrier, it could be a setting or something their end

I dont believe this is a carrier issue. Ive had the same carrier with all my phones, and Mega is the only one with spotty/poor signal strength.
Other threads on this forum are reporting the same issue.
I have the i527m version here in Canada and i have no problems at all with having a low signal as it always is strong and the LTE/4g works awesome..not sure on some other models why this is happening, maybe the moden/radio is forsure different in the i527m version then others, but i am not sure if the signal strength is good all across Canada or not, but i know my area it is good.

I have an AT&T Mega and I have not had this issue at all! I went from a Note 2 and I have the same or better signal strength with the Mega.

Just some examples of people experiencing the same thing.
Is there any possible solution for this? Like flashing the modem or something? (and in that case, which modem? Im european).
My signal is so much better on the mega..... I used to get on 2meg downloads now I download at the minimum of 8....

Try all the modems, what works for one will not for another.

personally the reception on my s3 is horrible. I live in the US and use my s3 on at&T's network. I constantly see 1 bar of service. I never noticed such problems with my s1 or s2, but don't have them any longer to really compare.. can anyone else give feedback on how the reception on their s3 is?

Which modem are you on. Please try DXLF3 if you're not on that modem yet.
Mine was really bad with Stock ROM (ALE8) and provider-pushed APN settings. Kept jumping from antenna to antenna and fell back to Edge all the time.
Removing the proxy server from the APN settings helped with the antenna jumping
Flashing eastern modems (particularly DXLF3) fixed the' falling back to edge' problem. In fact my connectivity is now as good as the S1 with it's Hong-Kong modem; Working HSPA throughout the forest (daily dog-walk) even if often one or zero bars.
The S1 had a terrible stock modem too at the beginning.
I recently got the note 2 from Verizon and I live in a poor signal area and was wondering if someone could help me out on which radio gets the best signal don't matter on the data end any help would be appreciated thanks

You can flash them seperately and test your self. There is a thread in the development section that has flashable zips. It seems like they all get mixed reviews. I had a pretty big increase in signal with the latest radio. its more based on your location though. My results could be completely different from yours. The only way for you to really know is to try them for a day or say and compare dbm numbers.

Imagine spending $460.00 On the Samsung Galaxy Mega only to find out that it drops your data consistantly day after day after day and no one has the answer.
Tried many roms, settings, modems, radios, and signal boosting apps.
No success.
Seems like once you root this phone, your done.
Many posts on the problem, yet no answers.
Frustrating as Hell.
I'm guessing everyone is either ignoring/living with the problem or not using data on this phone.
I'm thinking its kernel related but will probably not get fixed until Samsung releases source code and a "kernel developer" fixes it. Or perhaps maybe enough people complain and Samsung techs fix it.
Butt, it is a problem.

I know exactly what you mean buddy, I love this phone and I live in a refarmed area. Sucks that I cant get lte with the i9205 but hspa+ is fast enough. The only problem is that it's very inconsistent and I keep getting edge. I keep my settings in wcdma only to avoid getting edge and it stays on 3g and H+ most of the time but I do get no signal once it a while which is kind of annoying. If anybody has a solution for this that would be great.
I'm guessing that if everyone had the problem we'd be hearing about it loudly. I don't have a problem with losing my data connection as long as I'm in range of a transmitter. The mega has been easily as good as my htc and a zte mobile router that I've used. Maybe it's a hardware problem, have you checked with your supplier or tried another one?
Same, exactly the same as my S3, so it can't be the phone.
On three network inside is a bit poor but outside or in london stable as on 3g speeds upto 26 meg. Rooted as well.

I think the problem we are having is that we have the i9205 which if I'm not mistaken is the european version. I live in the states and I know this phone doesnt use the same bands just some of them. I'm guessing thats why service is so spotty.
That might explain it cakegetter.
Hi,
I am just wondering if a lot of people on Sprint has experienced a lot of unpredictable drop calls and unstable call quality?
I tried updating the phone, exchanging the phone, but the problem is still there. Is this a common defect for this specific phone? Or this is just Sprint network creating the problem?

Most likely the network. This phone has been rock solid for me!
It has to be the network in your area...I use my phone anywhere from 5-10 thousand minutes a month. .. if I had any of those problems this phone would have gone back within a week. ... it's been very solid though.

On the original firmware and modem I dropped 85%of calls. Then the next update mi5 got barely better. Mj4 had been much better,it still drops calls at least a couple times a day. I dropped more calls in one day on the note 3 then I did the entire time combined on my note 2.
I get 4-5 bars anywhere in my house. Mind you, I'm like 500 feet from a tower. (If they throw LTE on this tower, I'm set...)
I sometimes rock on full bars. 3G is also super strong. (2mbp/s on CDMA 3g? Not too bad)
But generally speaking, My Note 3 has none of these issues. Sprint is known for their voice clarity. Note 3 enforces this.

I tried that already. But the call quality is still really unstable. Now I really don't know what to do. Perhaps I should exchange the phone to Galaxy s4?

Considering your problem is probably the Sprint tower in your area, you would most likely be spinning your wheels. Take your phone to your local Sprint dealer to see if they can suggest anything. If they can't help you, try a different carrier if the problem persists.
I've had issues where I place a call and there is no tone or anything, however the recipient's phone rings like normal, but when answering can't hear anything either.. I'm kinda of disappointed with call issues on this phone, because otherwise it's a beast.

So like allot of people in here, I sold off my AT&T S5 and scooped up a T-MO S5 for the obvious reasons. What i've noticed is that i get insanely awesome reception everywhere i go with this t-mo phone. At work i would pull down about 3-4 bars of LTE on my ATT S5 and now i get full LTE all day long without the thing fluctuating once. Not a huge difference but still nice to see. This also goes for just about everywhere i go, full bars galore. Anyone else noticing this? Either way it's just another perk along with root and my custom ROM!!:victory:

Bars means nothing. Always check and compare using the dbm menu.:good:
The T-Mobile S5 will show five bars for a -99dbm signal. That in reality should be about 2-3 bars.

I don't know about that ; however the TMobile modem has more bands like LTE 900Mhz, HSPDA/AWS 1700Mhz

It does. It's a fact. When I have a -99dbm signal, my phone shows 5 bars. Then 4 bars with anything below -110dbm. I am assuming T-Mobile did it this way because their LTE is extremely weak, and they want you to think you have a good signal, when you really don't.

dbm alone when talking about LTE is a somewhat artificial number without context . RSSI and RSRP will indicate something more meaningful to the signal quality. -99dbm RSRP would be closer to -79 dbm RSSI and is a strong signal .
I am currently at -95dbm RSRP and am pulling phenomenal results.

Thanks for the heads up, I am on TMO not ATT , but I think I'll still hold off until I see more results. Seems a lot of ppl are having lower download speeds.

I wonder if this new slow download modem issue on G900T tmobile devices on ATT networks has anything to do with ATT lighting band 29 LTE on 700 now?

Wow. I'm glad I still have my original modem. I wonder why they would do that. Unless they don't want people taking their devices over to AT&T?

We really don't know if this is really happening to everyone or it's an isolated case...so far it's only been the same couple people reporting it.

I reflashed the ANCH stock Rom and rerooted and am back on the ANCH modem. Got my speeds back up
This is not an isolated case. There are problems with the new Modem. Go to the Development section. Beanstown has a new thread with all the Modems, firmware, and stock roms.. Try different modems, many times they function differently by location.
