[Q] Unable to install/restore APK - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey, how's everyone?
I have a backup file made with Titanium Backup for GMD GestureControls, but for some reason I'm unable to restore it to the phone! It just hangs with the box saying "restoring" and at 0%. If I try to install it from the APK it just says "App is not installed".
Really frustrating because I've been able to install/restore things flawlessly before and now, what gives with this junk?
I've used ADB to push the apk to /system/app but that didn't work either!

Well I'm familiar with Lucky Patcher but how exactly do I initiate the removal of the unused odex?
Edit: Well I tried to use Lucky Patcher to install the APK file that I had, and it said "must first uninstall the application before installing this apk-file as the signature applications are different because of the recompiling. Delete the app?" I clicked okay and it said "restore failed."
So I think there is something from the old app still there but I don't know how to remove it

Just install SystemCleanup from Playstore an CleanUp the system. It will erase unused ODEX files.

Guys, I need you to be very careful when discussing Lucky Patcher, it is almost always used as warez. I will let the discussion of it as a tool to remove unused odex files stay, since this a legitimate, non-warez producing use for it. But please, please, please, don't stray into a discussion of its other uses.
Thanks!

[Q] Removing Bloatware w/ Titanium

So I got got root, after having a long and hard decision, because I soft-bricked my phone yesterday.
Anyway, I got titanium because no other apps were free on Market like Root Manager or Root Explorer.
When I go to Backup/Restore I get a list, but they're not apps, they're stuff like:
Accounts
Application Widgets
Bluetooth Pairings
Country, Language, Time zone
Wi-Fi Access Points
but I want to delete the Avatar, TeleNav, and others.
PS, I've tried searching, didn't help me, so please don't tell me to "SEARCH". OH and I also read the sticky, didn't help x]
Any help is gladly appreciated
Does anybody know how? Please?
I prefer File Manager, it's free and pretty easy to use and delete all the Bloatware. Download it, open it and navigate to My Phone>system>app and look for the apk you want removed.
Is it ASTRO file manager, eFile - File Manager, or just plain "File Manager"?
Oh and what is .odex and .apk? Should I delete both?

.odex is the file before deodexing.
.apk is the output once deodexed.
Yes, delete both.. But I would recommended titanium to uninstall. And there is a link in the sticky that tells you all of the .apks & .odex files you can remove...
Plain File Manager.
Here's a list of safe programs you can remove.
First off all the Standard Apps:
AccountAndSync.apk/odex -> The app in the drawer, not the settings.
AddToHome.apk/odex
AudioPostcard.apk/odex
Avatar.apk/odex -> The app that launches Avatar in the video player.
BuddiesNow.apk/odex
Dlna.apk/odex [Allshare]
FlashPlugin.apk/odex
GoGo.apk/odex
Infoalarm.apk/odex [Daily Briefing]
KindleStub.apk/odex
Layer-samsung.apk/odex
MediaHub.apk/odex
Memo.apk/odex
Mini Diary.apk/odex
MobiTV.apk/odex
MyAccountStub_4-5-10.apk/odex
Myfiles.apk/odex
Sims3_Samsung_Embed_Launcher.apk/odex
slackerradio.apk/odex
Swype-Tips.apk/odex
Telenav.apk/odex
thinkdroid.apk/odex [ThinkFree Office]
vvm-signed.apk/odex -> T-Mobile Visual Voicemail [can be re-downloaded from the market. for some reason that version is the preferred one.]
VoiceRecorder.apk/odex
VoceDialer.apk/odex
Writeandgo.apk/odex
TouchwizWidgets:
Day.apk/odex
DualClock.apk/odex
SamsungWidget_Calenderclock.apk/odex
SamsungWidget_Feedandupdate.apk/odex
SamsungWidget_stockclock.apk/odex
SamsungWidget_Weatherclock.apk/odex

Oh and when I use file manager and try to delete it says insufficient privilege or something like that
Oh and it didn't ask for root powers even though I already rooted and have the superuser app

Anybody know how to force root permission? When I try to delete it says permission insufficient.

Open SU and see if you accidentally denied it. If so click it if not then reboot your phone and open Ti again. That should prompt SU.

thanks a bunch but for some reason I can't install it, says
"An existing package by the same name with a conflicting signature is already installed"
but I've frozen GVoice using Titanium. So I removed it completely and it still says "Application not installed"
Uninstall and reboot. Then use a root browser to push it to system/app. Change permissions to rw-r-r. Then reboot once again and you should be good.

assuming the apk above is directly from the market, you can just install it normally.. I don't think it has to be a system app. I had the same problem with TB and freezing/uninstalling... If you're having that problem, check in Apps, All and see if com.google.android.....voice is in there.

could not install... free up space

im trying to install an apk file but it keeps coming up "could not be installed , free up some space and try again"
i have iused 16GB of internal but still have 9.6 gb of internal memory free and about 30GB of extsd
how can i fix this ? i have had this apk installed a few days ago but got rid of it .
I would say part of the file is still on your phone as you had it installed recently, you need to make sure all of it is deleted it think you do this through astro, someone with better understanding will be able to tell you if astro can't do it.

Use a root explorer. Go Data\App
Delete anything related to the particular app you are trying to install.

Are you rooted? If so use your recovery to clear your cache.

it doesn't work..
i have tried it many times, also dalvik chace..
If your device is rooted, try to install and launch Lucky Patcher. It will probarly give a notification at start-up which says 'Unused odex removed!'
If that doesn't work, remove /data/app/fileName.odex using root explorer.
Hey,
You can go to /data/app in file manager with root privileges and there you can remove the app you want to install's .odex file.
Eg. If you want to install Swiftkey.
Go to --> /data/app
When you are there remove, swiftkey.odex file.
It should work
(This is basically what DroidHackz said)

It's basically a small error in which the odex file remains even though the core apk of an app is removed, an odex file is generated by an application package to improve its execution time(basically the app becomes faster).

ok, thx for your explanation & answer...

APKs in data/apps. Can I delete them?

I just noticed I have 1.9GB of apks in this directory. They appear to be just apks of the apps I have already installed. If I click on one, it ask if I want to install it. Obvisually, it's already installed so I'm assuming these can be safely removed.
Will someone please confirm, and if possible explain why they are put there, and whether I have an option to keep them from be added there in the first place?
Thank you

When you install an app then it stored in data partition in apk package. If you delete these apps then it uninstalled from your android.
Thank you for the reply!

Apk files installed actually go to that directory(data/app)
If you Delete apk , your app will be uninstalled and as it is not uninstalled properly , you might face trouble installing the same app afterwards.
And i suggest not to uninstall using this method because apps will have leftover data which will occupy unnecessary space
Cheers
Do not uninstall or your apps will not work,
