Bricked Phone?
This is a solution I found to work on my own GS4. The Verizon Update Utility seems to be able to restore a phone without any problems. However, if you are in a Soft-brick situation all of your data will most likely be erased (which is why we are told to backup so much). I looked all over the place for the Upgrade Assistant online since you can't access it from your phone if it's bricked, so I figured I could post it here and hopefully help someone out who has a bricked phone.
Instructions:
Install the Upgrade Assistant and SAMSUNG USB Drivers
Put your phone in Download mode
Connect to your computer (allow driver detect on Windows)
Open the Upgrade Assistant
Go to Repair Assistant
Press Start
Wait: the Process should take anywhere from 30-90 minutes (because it downloads the Stock 1.6ish gb rom)
In the Zip file you will find:
The Verizon Upgrade Assistant (PC/MAC)
Samsung USB Drivers
These files come directly from the stock ROM on the GS4
Hope it helps!
EDIT: The Mac Software installs great, however the Windows software doesn't seem to be working for me. So if you can get it to work thats awesome!
Please note: this is not my software and is only the software of it's respective owner. I do not claim for it to be mine, I am only posting a link so as it can be used to help.
Keep in mind that if youre on MDK this will probably up you to ME7... and lock your Booyloader.
If on MDK and you brick your device, I would ask around for assistance to manually unbrick

i already did that xD
googling again with ur keyword, please wait....
yes i see what u meant, but all the link are not available/downloadable
that's why i had to ask u, i think this is my first time to ever ask something in any forum hehe, i've never been this stuck in my life xD
but sadly I've lost all my chakara xD
anyway it seems that even if i did find it i won't be able to install it, the reason why is like below
1- i remembered i had a note 3 verizon, i attached it, copied the vzw software assistance.exe and all files related
2- tried to install it from my local harddrive copy, nothing would lunch or pop-up
3- backed it up as *iso and mounted it, still got nothing lunching or popping up when i try to open the *exe
4- connected my note 3 and lunched it from the phone and it directly pop up an agreement message with "install" button,
one must be connected to the internet when installing
so after all it turns out without a verizon device connected and used to install it, one cant use the software unless it's already installed
so i thought i'd share this info for anyone who wants
anyway thank you for your time and help =D
unbricking my note 2 sch-i605 ongoing.. xD
wish me luck =d
i'll post this just for information
so after i have soft bricked my phone to a brick that cannot be fixed through odin i managed to fix it with the verizon software repair
the error i have faced was that everytime i try to flash any rom or anything to sch-i605 verizon note 2 phone it will return an erorr messag sayong

so after installing Verizon software assistant and connecting my phone to it, it have completely repaired my phone :victory:
tip: u have to install "Verizon software assistant" from a working Verizon phone only, you can't install it from copied files.
Thanks for all you provide XDA Dev's !!!
The software might be too outdated, I can't get it to run. It keeps force closing on my mac. It won't even launch in windows, I found a report of a user that had removed the samsung signature on the file with launching success, but even that didn't work for me. Lol I'm just going to have to wait for the stock rom to download so I can Odin it
Same situation here - I am stuck with the phone telling me to run Verizon Software Repair Assistant. and that does not work on Windows 10. I was able to remove the digirtal signature. I have the task manager running and the app does appear to launch but gets closes right away. Stuck phone - please help....
Just an update for those who care. I had success with windows 10. I plugged in a working verizon phone to get the upgrade assistant which has the repair assistant in it. It installed without a hitch. It wouldn't recognise my phone until I manually put it in download mode. Took about 7 mins to repair with fiber internet.
Sorry folk, can't install software.
Any help?
Running Windows 7 x64, drivers installed.

Working file FOUND!!!
Thanks for the info and initial file OP. Unfortunately, the zip is out of date and does not install on any version of Windows I have tried.
I have tried Windows 7 64 bit and 32 bit, as well as windows XP 32 bit. The assistant did not open in any of these versions of windows.
I found a working file...

Hi there!
I am desperate!
Can't root my new SG2!
Here is what comes in odin:
<ID:0/004> Added!!
<ID:0/004> Removed!!
<ID:0/005> Added!!
<ID:0/005> Odin v.3 engine (ID:5)..

<ID:0/005> Get PIT for mapping..
<ID:0/005> Firmware update start..
<ID:0/005> zImage
it freezes there and the phone stays in download mode forever.
I also used Gingerbreak 1.10 but it stays in epxloit phase forever...
The phone is baught in Greece, provider is Cosmote and Kernel is:
[email protected] #2
I cant root it!!!!
OK some more info.
It stays in Download mode forever. When I remove battery and start it it starts and boots fine (not rooted though)
Every method fails!
I even used the automated odin 185 process again failed and froze at zimage
I also downloaded the patched KF3 tar for my kernel, used odin in download mode, again frozen forever!
Nothing I can do!!!!
It doesn't seem like you read or followed any guide.
Go to the dev forum, cf-root thread and follow the instructions. Make sure you installed Kies to get the drivers and then close Kies and kill EVERY process in task manager that belongs to Kies. Now you can use Odin, according to the guide!

Instead of throughing accusations on people having problems try to be more helpful or dont post at all.
I was the owner of a Samsung Galaxy S and now a S G 2.
I am also the Head IT and the man responsible for a group of S.A. companies that have over 250 mobile connections.
I have rooted many devices before S G 2 (HTC mainly and a few S Galaxy S) and it's something I can do very easily thanks to the very helpful guides that exist here in this forum that even non-experienced users can very easily follow.
The S G 2 was the first phone to cause such a problem to me!
The answer to my problem has been found by me and it was no other than the USB ports I used.
For some reason they were stuck and when the process would begin at odin it would freeze at the zimage task and stay there forever. The Gingerbreak 1.10 doesnt seem to work anyway for my kernel.
After switching USB port for the third time the whole process completed successfully.
Installing a fresh Kies copy (I never use it but the usb drivers are there) was something I did even before receiving the phone from the post.
A different solution would be to use 32 bit O.S. because 64bit O.Ses have such problems in other devices as well (a week ago I tried jailbreaking an IPhone 4 and a thousand errors occured while trying to upgrade to 4.3.3. When I installed Itunes in XP everything was perfect and everything was done flawlessly)
So there u have it ppl if you get such error in rooting try switching usb port or use 32 bit operating systems.
S G 2 Rooted (d3l1 - JJEgan thanks for nothing I guess)!
With the lack of information you provided there was hardly anything to help you with. So I assumed and started explaining the basics. My fault if it offended you, it wasn't meant that way!
And it's correct to assume a software problem given the very little information in post 1 which mostly is forgetting to end the Kies processes causing Odin to hang/crash.
So maybe you should provide more information as to what can be ruled out, post 1 gives us nothing to rule out.
I admit that the information I gave could not make things clear on what my knowledge and my experience is. However if you wanted more info you could ask and I would be happy to provide. Your post was not that offending but the next one was...I found it very upseting asking for help and getting replies like that. Perhaps my lvl was unclear....but someone can always ask. Your post alone wouldnt bother me so much. I guess its the combo with the next one. Anyway no prob mate!

Thats plastered all over the forum mate though i will agree that you need to use the search button and read a lot of disjointed posts to get a lot of information .
I apologise for putting in print my thoughts that you are an idiot .

You are So pathetic... So my guess is that if from software point of view everything is perfect and u get the yellow COM signal in Odin and u have selected the correct patch for your Kernel and Odin starts fine and freezes at some point in a PC you have rooted several other phones your guess would be the usb port. Send me a CV and I will pass it to my boss so that you can take my job! Looking forward to it!

recently tried updating to ics via kies but it failed and phone said to eneter recovery... tried that nothing happened it won't enter recovery mode but will access download mode.
searched for a few days for answers and tried flashing with Odin ... the firmware fails then tried the kernel and this passed but still won't flash.
Used a guide on here and followed all methods and then resorted to flashing the bootloader but this also failed now I'm stuck with 2 counts on the kernel a void warranty and a USB jig that won't reset the counter!
Any help please...I just need the phone up and running ! I've rooted and flashed other phones but tried keeping this standard but kies altered that!
don't say use search button as I've been searching for days now this is last resort before paying out at service centre.
Thanks
Andrew

yes zacq8 very true buddy
Don't quite understand exactly what you are asking me but I turned Kies off and all running software and run Odin 1.85 the kernel will flash but the phone won't accept any firmwares at all! it fails .
is there any way to get the phone into recovery ? I thought there may be some way using ADB or another way around to enter recovery or restart update !
dont use stock ics firmware, use the gingerbread version
step 1. download your stock firmware from here
step 2. flash using odin
How to flash.
- Open ODIN.
- Select CODE / MODEM / CSC.
- Put phone in download mode. (HOME - VOLUMN DOWN - LOCK)
- Connect phone with cable. Push start (Wait till phone reboot on Android start screen!)
step 3. download old bootloader from here,
then flash it useing odin (phone must be in download mode)
put it in PDA: and then click start
step 4. learn how to make your own jig from here
step 5. once made just shutdown phone and plug it in, wait 8 seconds
that easy
>>>read this other user's<<<
if i made a mistake dont be mean about it, just confront me, then i will fix my
mistakes
@ starbogt go in the download mode man wen ur kies says for recovery mode thts it

@ atifis this is the i9100
@ rocky23 thanks but this is what I tried but the phone won't emergency recover with Kies I've tried on 3 pcs and it won't work.
The phone only came back from Phones 4 U a month ago due to a failed USB ! and now this ! been most unreliable phone I've had!

hi zacq8,
thank you for your quick reply, very appreciated.
i just realise my s2 is i9100G, while i flashed with i9100, i think this caused the problem.
i've tried the 1st step you mentioned, but it still displaying the phone---/!\----pc picture. yet i dun know where to get usb jig in my region, do you have any other remedies with this?
sorry, i'm new with the work and the forum, should i create a separate thread or just keep in?
you should get DL mod and to flash a ROM from ODIN, this is the only remidy now as far my knowledge...
I heard the "Phone!PC" also a kind of forced download mod, but (after making 100% sure) keep it for worst and last case if you fail to get DL mod for flashing a stock ROM. (please dont attempt now I am not fully sure)
Where is your location, check somebody near to you is available in these Jig owners, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1495867
also it is not a big deal to make a jig, if you now how to solder, can follow this video guide : http://galaxys2root.com/galaxy-s2-hacks/how-to-make-a-usb-jig-for-your-galaxy-s2/
No need to create a seperated thread, you continue posting here only.....bothway you will get same response.

wonder if i can charge the battery in this situation? i'm not sure how much it is left from the last time it run.
okay, i'll try to get a jig asap, meanwhile could you please guide step by step how to use the jig and odin for s2 i9100G? does it restore to the original factory ROM or others?
Hey all,
I am in the US I bought this I9300 that won't boot thinking I could simply reflash it and use it/resell it.
It won't boot into custom recovery or the OS. Last night it was stuck on the Samsung screen but I did some reading and found this guide: widefide (dot) com/mobile/galaxy-s3-boot-problem-solution (spam filter)
I was able to use Odin to reflash the PIT that was linked there so now the phone gets to the Firmware/Kies screen.
I have tried flashing any stock ROM (I'm not even sure which 1 I should be flashing) and/or installing CMW and Odin either gets stuck on SetupConnection.. or <ID:0/003> NAND Write Start!!
Is there anything I can do to recover this phone? I'm pretty savvy so as long as the tools exist I anticipate that I can fix this.

Are you sure you've bought an INTERNATIONAL version of the SGS3?
If yes, the flash some latest firmware like XXEMB5.
If it doesn't work, and it doesn't boot up at all, read this report on the SUDDEN DEATH. It could've happened earlier itself.
Else, go to your nearest Samsung Service centre where you could get it done for about $4 (Well, i'm from India and they chagre 200 bucks of this currency to reset a god damn software).

Yeah now it doesn't turn on at all.
Is a USB Jib my only option at this point?
it won't help, probably
Go to this website and make an account. Download the Samsung OEM USB drivers (Check the Win8 help link in my description - There is a dl link for them there - and wait for them to install. While they are installing or afterwards, download the latest firmware you can find (Preferably Europe, because they usually have CSCs for all countries).
Once the drivers have installed and the ROM is downloaded, open up the .tar file and see if there are different .tar files inside. If so, unpack them. If not, leave the archive as it is.
Open up Odin (Making sure it has administrative rights) and then plug in the device in download mode (Odin mode). Once the device is connected and Odin recognizes it, choose from the options below:
Option 1 - You have only one package
In Odin, hit the 'PDA' button and select the downloaded package. Click Start and wait for the process to complete - You're done and the device is useable.
Option 2 - You have more one package
In Odin, select PDA and search for the .tar/.md5 file: "PDA-xxx-xxx.tar/.md5" hit Open.
Select Modem and search for a file called "Phone-xxx-xxx.tar/.ms5"
Select CSC and search for the CSC file (Usually CSC-xxx-xxx.tar/.md5)
Then hit Start and wait for the process to finish - You're done and the dveice is useable.
If you need any help, feel free to PM me and I'll gladly help via Team Viewer when/If I'm home
Hope I could help!

Edit; Reading the other posts; You may as well try the Jig. If that doesn't work (Whereas I hope it will), then go to the SDS thread, like supreethms already noted
Hi all,
This is my first post but I readed this forum since two months and it's awesome the level inside the forum!
I write this lines because I have a problem with a S3 of my sister-in-law. I summarize all what's happened:
- She was in one point of (Argentina, I don't know where exactly) and his SG3 stops running. She carry the smartphone to one shop. After hours she went to get his SG3 and the "technician" said I'm sorry I broke your phone, take 80€ to repair the screen of smartphone (she doesn't know anything about technology...) she took the money and she gave the SG3 to me to repair...
- When I startup the phone I seen an screen that show this message "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again".
-I tried to enter in recovery mode, without success... I tried to install stock firm and the only message that I see in Odin is:
<ID:0/003> NAND Write Start!!
<ID:0/003> FAIL!
-After hours searching I think that the NAND is in RO and can't install anything, I tried to follow this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1840030 but in the first boot chain I get this message for lot of time and do anything more: <ID:0/003> NAND Write Start!! .
-I tested in diferent PC's and used diferents USB wires and anything...
What can more I do?
Thank you!!

Note: The firmware is zipped. You must extract the .tar file before Odin will see it.
Note: You should open Odin as admin.

*shrug* Someone posted in that thread that it was zipped. Anyway, try another version of Odin. Run it as admin. And the obvious, make sure the phone is in Download Mode. Unless someone changed the rom to a Sprint one for some reason and it's not actually a Sprint Note 3, that should work. You can check the baseband number in About Phone. It's easy to change the rom name / type, but can't change the baseband to one from another phone like that.

i did it with other version same result.
what do u mean by run it as admin..?my user account is in admin group.
Phone in downloaded mode..? MTP checked
basebrand: n900pvpuncnab
Right click on Odin and Run as Admin.
I don't understand what you mean by MTP being checked off. There is no MTP in Download Mode.
That is definitely the Sprint version. The OK2 firmware should work fine as it is the newest one.

MTP is when you connect the usb while the cell is on it give 2 options
connected as media device (MTP)
connected as camera (ptp)
I'm quite aware of what MTP is. I was just confused because you said it was in Download Mode with it checked off. If you were actually in Download Mode then this wouldn't be an option available. Odin won't install the system unless you're booted in the correct mode. Power Off then power on by holding volume down, home, and power together. Follow prompt to finish booting to Download Mode. Run Odin as admin. Load firmware in AP slot. Hit start after md5 check. Should work.
Thanx man!!
Now my note 3 is update
Well..
Its now showing 2 notification continually
1 -checking device status
2- update Google play service
When i tap in 2nd option it redirect me to play stores at which it says your device isnt compatible
However in app play store working fine
Kindly suggest
Once again thanks for support
Did you factory reset after the update?
