Hi Guys,
I've been using File Manager for years now as I found it to be the simplest and most functional file manager I've encountered.
I'm using this app also to share my phone's folders to the network so I can transfer files wireless to and from the device.
Lately on my Z ultra, I noticed that this app is not showing the correct IP address of my phone and other devices cannot connect to it using the said IP address.(ex: 10.50.156.81:2121)
It is working fine on my Galaxy Note 1..
Screenshot:

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
I would then have to check the "default gateway" on my computer when it is connected to my Ultra's hotspot so I can determine what is the IP address of my phone.
Screenshot:
Any ideas why it would say a different IP address?
I cannot determine where did 10.50.156.81:2121 come from...
It does not look like a LAN IP to me.. They normally start with 192.168.x.x right?
I also checked the External IP of my phone given by my service provider and it is 10.60.xx.xx so it cannot be my external IP.
Your ideas would be helpful..I also sent an email to the app's dev (still waiting for reply) but I'm hoping for a second thought from my fellow XDA users.
Also, anybody knows what is the best equivalent of "ipconfig" in terminal emulator? That way, I can check my phone's LAN IP from the phone itself.
Google gives me different answers.
I downloaded the app and started the hotspot and got
When writing the ipconfig in the terminal Im getting the same default gateway so I don't think you should bother with that.
Type the Ip adress you are provided in the app and the port.
Signed in without any issues
That's the problem... Other devices won't connect using the IP and port given by the app.. They just time out and disconnect... They can only connect using the 192.168.x.x address...
What's the command you used on terminal so I can check on my end?
"ip -d" won't work for me.. Sorry i have zero experience with terminal.. Lol
Sent from my C6833 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
try ifconfig
it could be that your app is not recognising the private IP, and resorts to using the public ip provided by your service provider (which typically blocks most ports)
what you can try is to disable data when connecting to your wifi network, that way the app won't be confused as to which one to use. there are several types of profiling apps that can do this, i use EasyProfiles Pro for my mobile.
This option didn't exist
Weird..
I have tried it again but it now seems like my previous statement is wrong...
The app now shows my external IP assigned to me by my Service Provider.
I used the command busybox ifconfig to get the info...
Apologies as i have blurred info that i think is sensitive and should be kept private for my device. Like I said in OP, I have zero experience with terminal. :fingers-crossed:
Terminal Emulator:
Well up until now, the developer haven't sent a reply and I'll just stick to using terminal to see my Phone's local IP. Seems like it does not change though as long as I am the hotspot. :victory: I know connecting to another wifi hotspot would make my phone follow that network's DHCP :highfive:
Thanks for the replies! I'll give you a cookie as soon as I post this..

I don't know what option you are referring to since I can't see the pics you have pasted on your post (maybe due to my poor internet connection right now) but I will assume you are referring the the option to share your phone to the network.
Steps:
1. Open the app
2. on the set of icons on the top, scroll to the far right,
3. Click Network
4. click Share
5. Select the Folder you want to share to the network.
6. *optional* type in a username/password combination for the users to use or just leave it blank to have it free access for all.

These are modems that are tested. Other modems might work as well.
To setup your modem follow the instructions below:
Go to settings (press the status bar in the low right corner) and press <More...> and you will see the following:

Select <Mobile networks> and you will get this screen:
Select <Access Point Names>. when you come to the Access Point Page you click in the top right corner and select <New APN>.
This is the tricky part where you fill in the GSM operators settings. You can find settings for the most popular networks here. If your operator is not included you will have to ask the operator. The screenshot below shows the settings for Safaricom, Kenya:
When all settings are filled in press the arrow in the lower left corner and you are done.

Care to elaborate a bit? I tried and did not have much success, did you? If so can you please post some pictures of it working?

Sorry 2all
Sorry to all this will not work. I take that manual from other site. It say Andtoid 4 3G Setup (original link in #1 post). I test it my self. No success.
Than i unpakced firmware to find out files like (gprs, pppd-ril.options, usb_wwan.ko, etc), some of them presents in firmware, others dissmised.
So the only way getting 3G via dongle, is custom firmware.

Well if u have to use 3g/data connection outside wifi range just use your cellphone as a wifi hotspot. Most people carry a cell and most of todays phones can do this

thanks, i know how to go to web via phone by changing wpa_suplicant2 file. But i want to connect via dongle.
I dont know how real this is, I have rooted my TF201 and no where do I see the mobile network on a stock rom, I have it on my phone yet I dont have it here, and also there would have to be drivers for the USB modem to be entered, this isnt a simple task, the only one i have found is in the UMTS app from the market, and even then this doesnt work, I just want a USB modem installed, I dont want to use my phone as the WIFI defeats the purpose of having a USB modem, surely someone has done this on a stock rom
Ok so I got me new EVO LTE today. Nice device...but I have a problem. I was at a clients site today and used the wifi and it worked great. Got home and went to connect it to my network, it found the SSID, then authenticated, then showed connected. However, there is no network connection in the browser.
So a little background about this. My wife has the HTC one X and has had the same issue since she got it at our house. I thought it was an issue with her phone originally because all the other devices in the house work (EVO 4G, EVO View, E4GT, 2 laptops, 2 WDlive, and a smart TV)
Well now I know its not just her device. So what I have done and where it stands now. I used fing to see if I could see the rest of the network. I could see all the devices on it but could not ping anything. 100% packet loss.
I checked the router and it shows that the EVO LTE has an IP address that matches the one that is shown on the phone. I checked the server (windows SBS) and it shows that the EVO LTE has a IP Lease.
I am not able to ping the device from any system, including the server. I am not able to ping the router, server, or any device from the EVO LTE.
So I am stumped. Anyone have any suggestions on what could be causing this?
I have disabled the firewall on both the server and router and still the same result.
I haven't run into this situation on my EVO but I have on other devices in the past. Is your SSID being broadcast or is it hidden? I don't broadcast my SSID and that was what caused this issue for me. So broadcasting, then setting up the connection from scratch with the device, then setting the router back to not broadcast did the trick for me. Haven't had an issue since with any of those other devices.
Seems weird seeing as it's connected to the router. Do you have a mac filter on your router? Did you add your phones to it?
Try setting a static IP from the phone instead of using the routers DHCP. Look at my attached picture for an example:

yea very odd
No, I don't have a MAC filter. Actually, I do, but I don't have it enabled.
Using the Firmware: DD-WRT v24SP2-MULTI (05/27/11) st on WZR-HP-G450H.
Setup a static IP and still no dice. Same as before, able to see all the other devices on the network but not able to get out.
Its as if there is a firewall...but there isn't.
@Salvasaur - yes broadcasting the SSID. My device connects to it right away, no problem. Its really the strangest thing that it is able to connect, shows an IP, the router and the server show that the device is connected, but it is not able to get out.
More strange is that the issue happens on both the HTC One X and also the EVO LTE. But all other devices work just fine.

I'm guessing it has something to do with our custom built firmware because I have a similar issue as yours. If my screen is off (this isn't the SmartSync issue some people are talking about) I get the same exact issue as yours. I think the newer HTC phones drop the transfer rate so low when the screen is on that the router doesn't broadcast at that speed. I know this doesn't help you but it would be nice if you could test when you get this sorted out.
The build date for my firmware is 6/14/11 are there any updates for your router?
EDIT: I'm sure you tried these but just to be clear try turning both the phone and router all the way off and back on again, toggle wi fi on and off again on your phone, try turning on best wi fi performance on your phone (remember to shut if back off because it will destroy your battery) and if you can try it on another LAN (or if you have another router, try that).
firmware update
Updated my firmware and problem solved. ugh! spent hours on that...should have thought to do that in the beginning. Thanks for the input everyone!
I am having issues removing proxy on my phone. Whenever I used the stock internet browser or firefox and go to whatismyip.com, it detects a proxy. I did not include any proxy address and stuff in WiFi settings but I did install Tigervpns VPN, Vpn one click and Orbot recently and used them all. I however, uninstalled them as I found them of no use to me. I would really like to get rid of the proxy and I know that its not a setting on my network as when I go to whatismyip.com on my computer it doesn't detect any proxy. I suspect it might be the VPN changer apps I installed though, if anyone has any idea how to remove it, please help me. Thanks in advance.

It would probably help if you post the name or IP address of the proxy
Im not sure what the name is but the ip
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
That IP belongs to your carrier.
Edit - And if you'd done an nslookup, you would have found that out for yourself.
So theres no way to get rid of it?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
Your carrier is obviously routing traffic through that proxy. Talk to them; ask them if there's a way you can get connectivity on your phone without going thru the proxy. If they say no, there's nothing you can do about it (other than change carriers).
Or...Find out if there's other APN settings for your carrier. There may be another APN that doesn't use the proxy (like Vodafone in Australia).
Question is as exactly as it is in the title; how does Android come to the conclusion that it has complete internet connectivity (or connection to google services), and consequently will turn the signal bars blue (on stock android devices).
I am trying to fix a problem at work where if I put my phone on the company wifi, my phone never seems to think it has internet connectivity, even though I do. The consequence is most apps don't attempt to pull new data, and therefor never notify me of new messages. This includes gmail, google voice, and hangouts.
I don't have direct control of the network infrastructure at the moment, so right now it is easier to know what address or IP it tries to get to, and how (ping?), so it can be unblocked by the firewall or web filter.

check your settings>wireless & Networks> WIFI>check Network notification this will inform you when there are other open wifi networks present > you need to connect to that network with password or scroll down to add WIFI network (you can add any network when you know its SSID and security used.
if you unchecked network notifications, you will " NOT" know or use of any new networks other than what you have used before.

I'm not having any issues finding or connecting to wifi, the problem is at my buisness when on wifi, android does not detect an internet connection; so it thinks I just have local network access, so most apps do not auto refresh in the background.
just dropped $40 on the vysor pro app (hard to tell what it can really do with the free version) but can't seem to get it to accept wireless mode when trying to mirror my shield to my pc, when i try i get the below message... i've also installed vysor on a tablet and it has no problem with wireless mode... i've tried every recommendation i could find in order to resolve this prob but no luck, which includes:
- disabling ipv6
- trying both 2.4 and 5.0 wireless connections
- updating universal adb drivers
- changed usb configurations (mtp, ptp, etc.)
also worth mentioning, my shield wi-fi works fine with everything else, and shows in my windows explorer.

I just found this thread long after I got Vysor (and scrcpy) to work (almost) flawlessly on Android 11 (with USB setting up the initial adb connection and then switching to Wi-Fi thereafter)....
In early May I updated from Android 11 to Android 12 and I found out that Android 12 has a fantastic new Developer option "Wireless debugging" feature where you can set up the adb connection to the PC completely over Wi-Fi (no need for the initial USB connection!).
I just wanted people to know new information related to using Vysor completely over Wi-Fi (no USB connection is ever needed again!).
This always on Wi-Fi Vysor capability is new in Android 12 because Android 12 has a new Developer option for "Wireless debugging".
However, Android 12 also has a new Developer option for "Enhanced MAC Randomization" which randomizes the MAC address on every Wi-Fi connection, so with that added desired Wi-Fi simplicity in Android 12 comes also the added desired privacy of MAC randomization on every connection (the difference being Android 11 only randomized the MAC per SSID, as far as I understand it).
All this new Android 12 functionality has implications for your Vysor (and scrcpy) setup, based on my tests over the past couple of months.
Of course, if your router is using the MAC address to hand out the IP address you might need address reservation since the router can no longer expect a consistent MAC address if you set that new Android 12 Developer option but you can set the Android phone to request a "Static" IP address (if you want the adb connect commands to be consistent in the IP address in day to day usage).
I have found that rebooting the PC causes me to need to reconnect via an adb command on the PC before Vysor will work, and, for unknown reasons yet, often the Android 12 "Wireless debugging" switch gets turned off (mysteriously) - which affects the Vysor (and scrcpy) connections from one day to another.
It's no big deal once you figure out the commands and switches though, where the screenshots below show the settings I currently have on my unrooted Android 12 Samsung Galaxy A32-5G phone from T-Mobile (many of which are for privacy and functionality reasons).
