I recently updated my i9300 to foxhound 0.1, which is android 4.2.2.
It works fine and all BUT sometimes when installing apps or updating them they get installed to sd card automatically!
I did some googling, without much luck though since it seems i'm the only one interested in keeping my apps on the internal storage rather than the micro sd.
I had the doubt this was either the fault of apps like
App2sd/Link2sd so i uninstalled them (i really never actually used them), but i doubt it was their making...
What happened is with this new 4.2.2 now i am able to actually move apps to sd card (while on any other rom i dont even recall being able to) and this is cool, but i don't need it. Problem is my phone WANTS to.
So how can i change the default installation directory before i choose to throw my phone against the wall?:banghead:

About what sd are you talking? Internal sd which is actually the internal memory or external sd which is your micro sd?

He is talking about them going to the micro SD card.
Exactly external sd. They just go there themselvesn it doesn't occur with all apps, so i'm guessing maybe the devs put some preferences in the installation properties? I think i recall reading about android devs being able to do this somewhere in their projects.....

ok. I hope this isnt too much of a newb question...
I have looked all over to see if I could find any problems with people getting apps off of their SD card. I found a few topics and reviewed them, but I have had little luck. Most of those threads also involve root problems whereas my Evo 3d is still stock (updated to 2.3.4).
The main problem Im having (aside from linpak and various other benchmarks being dramatically reduced) is that I can not get the apps off of my SD card to show on the phone.
I performed a factory reset on the phone prior to the update as I've read several times that it is the preferred method of updating since it wipes the Dalvik (sp?) cache or whatever. I guess if you just update without wiping, it clogs up the cache or something to that effect.
Anyhow, I moved all the apps to SD. I did the wipe, then I did the OTA. Once the OTA was complete it would not recognize my apps at all. They DO NOT show up under app management as being on the SD. It is blank. It does however still show my music and pictures.
Since I swapped my 8 GeeBee card with a 16 I figured perhaps the card was corrupted somehow. So, I took my OEM Sandisk 8gb card and put that in and it wont transfer the apps that were on that either.
Ive tried to restart. Nothing. Ive unmounted the SD card, restarted without a card. Shut down. Put card back in, mounted. Still nothing .
Any help guys...and again, sorry if this is a newb question.
Use any third party apps? I believe the system installer doesn't check external storage. Try Astro free and you should be ok. Let me know what you run into

Ooh and most benchmarks for this phone are inaccurate due to its resolution. They may have updated to account for this but that's what I've heard as of late.
It's a 1.2 factory dual core so why of super Oct'd phones and tablets you should reign supreme.

I have a couple apps from Amazon but not many. so when I used astro I tried to find the apps and couldn't find any. Normally on my PC they are listed under Android secure...when I pull that up with astro it says directory empty..but they do show up when I have the card in my laptop...
Also, when I switched my sd out before all I had to do was copy the files and pop it in the phone. They showed up right away. Not sure why phone won't recognize them now.

Yeah. I'm not sure what the deal is. I just ended up wupping the sd card and starting over. I have a spare sd I moved all my pics and such to so I'm not too worried about it.

well im using the application app 2 sd to move apps , well i have apps that it says can be moved but when i click on them there is no option for sd card and also i get a message saying: the device does not have a real primary external storage, or primary external storage is emulated

No it's proper sand disk I think from ebuyer, well I have about 10 apps and I have around 250-300mb left just wanted to free some up as when I install n.o.v.a 3 it's like 2.gb and that installs to whine storage aswell not sd. I think I've read that none if the apps to sd work yet for sgs3 :/

There's plenty of open topics about this. Search for them.
Basically Samsung intended the internal, external cards and dropbox to work as one big storage for all apps, app data and user files... or something like that.
So they disabled the Move To SD option in the app manager. Unfortunately it doesn't quite work like they intended and the external SD is practically useless as most apps (99%) can't read or write to it.
I'm reading around now to see if anything new happened but it's looking grim.

Any updates on this? I still want to move my App Data to the external SD card. In this way my new SGS3 is even worse than my Galaxy Y -.-
as far as I know it does not work with S3. maybe an update coming soon

It works. It requires some handywork though on the shelll.
maybe there will be a noob friendly mod soon for those that want to use .sd card for apps?

I'm just hoping for a custom Rom with App moving, UMS mode and fixed user dictionary so I'm not having to patch up the f**k ups that Samsung made and have it all built in like it should be.

I used Directory Bind App to move my big data esp. game data to my external Sd.It worked perfectly.

Hi everyone, I have one question regarding my Xperia Mini Pro sk17i.
1 month back i could have easily moved large amount of my newly installed apps to SD card without any problem. But recently whatever I install, I just cannot move it on SD anymore. I understand there are many apps that cannot be moven, but whatever i tried to install (randomly) from Google store just stays on my phone and option to move it to SD is blank (unavailable). Now, I'm wondering is this something that happens frequently, or have I maybe done something that somehow blocked that function?
I'll note this app (which previously when i had no problem moving apps from phone to SD or other way around wasn't installed):

another note: I never rooted or flashed my phone in any way, just regular updates. I'm currently on 4.0.4 version ( installed it 5 minutes ago, but still problem with moving to SD).

mistake? no friend, that was no mistake they planned that. ics was a major change in android and the apps to sd card thing is history now (at least in stock roms)
and the reason is that external memory can never be as fast as internal memory in running and executing apps. imo

mistake about app2sd? any rooted and open source rom and kernel, can enable this feature. where does jb comes in picture? people have been using it since froyo custom roms.

internal memory is fast i agree, but it is still not faster than class 10 memory cards.
when i transfer data to internal memory it never went above 8 mbps....but with my class 10 memory card i can transfer with 16 mbps speed....so flash memory isnt always the fastest one

It is not history it's optional. It's a feature still embedded in ICS and Jelly Bean but it just needs to be turned on. They made it optional due to the devices like the Galaxy Nexus and Nexus 4 which had no external memory. So having the feature would be pointless. It can be turned on though. I have a couple devices that has it work through your normal system settings.

The main issue with that is majority of consumers that are using these devices have no clue what a class is in relation to SD cards. Hell half of them think SD cards are SIM cards and vice versa and their pictures are on the SIM xD

I know the modern consumer is anything but "brilliant", but pictures on a SIM card? Lol. That may be a touch harsh, though it did get me to laugh.
On a side note, my current devices happen to be the exact same as yours. Fancy that.
Just rooted p769, installed app2sd and want to move apps. When run app2sd get this message:
"the device does not have a real primary external storage, or the primary external storage is emulated. Moving app to SD function may not be supported by this device."
any alternatives or any way to remap without app2sd or link2sd? I have not tried link2sd yet but it'll probably be similar. Would like to remap or move apps until JB/CM is available which will likely have it integrated.

Now i have a total of 180 apps, most of them are system, pre-installed, removed most bloatware. Don't want to waste internal storage memory completely, would like to keep some apps in phone and have a few hundred megs free internal, the rest moved to externa sd. Hope it's possible.
On the JB there are app2sd but all data of applications is still saving in phone memory.

Are you saying they initially install on the phone but have the option to move to sd after they are installed or that the option is available but doesn't work to move apps to your sd card.

He's saying that the larger apps such as for example real racing still save the data files to the sdcard. Now the difference is that you can move the actual app to the sdcard.

I think this is regarding all devices using 4.4 and above (maybe other versions too)
On all my Samsung Galaxy Devices - Note 2, S4 and now my NotePro 12.2 I cant download or transfer files directly to my microsd card unless I root unless device and change the write permissions in
system/etc/permissions/platform.xml
I have rooted my S4 and can download files from the net and save them directly to my microsd card - I dont want to root my new NotePro 12.2 so my question is
can I do this without root somehow???

It's Google and the way they set the permissions - this happens on Nexus devices too and HTC as far as im aware!!!!
It's on newer versions of android only - 4.4.2 definitely 4.4 most likely and 4.3 possibly!!!
Ohh and it is nothing to do with the sd card or how it is formatted either!!!

This problem is more apparent with Samsung devices as they are one of the remaining device manufacturers that still have external microsd cards.
Upon research the same thing happened when 4.3 rolled out and was later fixed with a firmware update.
It is a line of code in the file I mentioned above, that Google changed in the vanilla version for security reasons and to stop external storage use and to push cloud storage. They even forgot to change it for the Motorola devices that had microsd card slots.
It is a really easy fix to implement but unfortunately the only way I have found that enables the end user the ability to make the changes requires Root.
Manufacturers like HTC dont need to change the file as they dont have microsd slots.... Samsung do, and hopefully they will change the code.
A big boo boo on Google and Samsungs part if you ask me, Samsung have stuck with external expandable memory, and rightly so if you ask me - but they should be more thorough when implementing Android on there devices. Google need to up the amount if built in storage on there decices if they dont want to use expandable memory, 16/32gig isnt enough onboard storage if you can't expand it in todays media led age, if Apple can fit 150gig in a bloody ipod touch they have no excuse.

I've seen mention of there being a fix for root users... do you happen to know what it is? I just updated my Galaxy S4 to 4.4.2 and then found out about this issue. It's a pretty big deal to me since FolderSync I can't use daily like I always do, not to mention FX file explorer for grabbing things off my server via SMB (to the SD card at least). It's a pretty big problem for me, though I'm rooted so hoping there's an easy fix.
