Root - HTC Droid DNA

What is the most recent root method for this phone? I've read and read and I'm getting really frustrated with this. Can someone just give me a link to a root method that isn't a pain in the ass and that works. HTCdev doesn't work. I would appreciate it so much!

Look in the moonshine thread

Actually one other question. Do I need to s off first? Or unlock the boot loader first?

Moonshine will root, unlock bootloader, and s-off. All you need is to be on firmware version 2.06 or 2.07.

I'm actually trying to root 2 DNA's, and I've successfully rooted 1, but the other is still causing problems. All the software versions and everything in about phone are exactly the same on both phones, but mine is causing problems -_- anyway, how do I flash TWRP recovery now? I apologize guys, I'm not familiar with HTC's at all, I'm used to Samsung. I've rooted, unlocked and installed custom recoveries on Note II's and S III's in like 10 minutes top.

Download goo manager from the playstore and there should be an option to flash TWRP recovery in the app.

New to the amaze

I just came from a g2 and must say I'm glad I did. Now time to start flashing roms. I was able to get phone unlocked and I got a custom recovery. No s_off.
I know s_off was needed for custom roms and to flash recoveryfor the g2.
Am I correct to think I need s_off to flash roms/kernels/mods?
Thanks in advance

S-off is not needed for anything really, other than flashing custom splash screens.
Install 4Ext recovery and it will flash kernels for you in recovery just as a recovery on a device with s-off would. IF you are unlocked and have a custom recovery you should be good to go, if the recovery is CWM I and nearly everyone here would advice you to switch to 4Ext just to make your life easier with wifi problems.
You can flash roms how your phone is right now through recovery with no problem though.
Sweet. Was used to needing soff for the g2. And I agree 4ext is awesome.
Just to make sure flashing is done the same as on my g2 through recovery right?
Thanks

Not the same. After you unlock the bootloader, you can root the phone (SuperUser App).
Follow these instructions starting from post 3 to get a custom recovery and root access.
That was so much easier than I expected. It was a lot harder with the G2. Thanks again

[Q] S-OFF with HBOOT 1.08.0000

When I saw the news for the HTC Thunderbolt ICS update finaly out I got so excited, I returned my phone to stock, ran the update, and was happy... not thinking "what if they update the HBOOT"...well THEY DID. Stupid me for not waiting one more day for the rooted release! So now Im unable to acheive S-OFF as my HBOOT is now 1.08.0000.
Perhaps its too soon to be asking this, but is there a way to S-OFF the new HBOOT?
Nope you're Sol until an exploit is found. Oh and there is an if there too because I don't know how much interest there will be in finding an exploit for an old device.

Well if anything came out of this, we now know for certain the results of accepting the update and hopefully warn others. I have to take this phone into best buy for repairs, and seeing as I already did this once and they just gave me a (defective) refurbished model, they most likely will do it again.
HBroot off
I have been able to get S-off via HTCdev after I requested the code to unlock the bootloader. I am stuck now with root and I would love to know if somebody knows how to push the root onto the ICS stock rom?

That can't be done. If you're s off flash the ics radios in Santods post in the developer section and then flash the ics rom.

I've tried it and it will not stick. Not sure why but I wish I had waited for the rooted rom before going back to stock and getting the OTA update.

Yes you should be able to flash superuser in recovery to get root. You won't be able to use the stock ICS ROM though if you're still s off

Yes but the tool (Thunderbolt tool) does not handle HBoot 1.08 at the moment. I wish it would because this would solve my problem
Find the thread that has the fastboot flash able form of cwm and then get back to me. I'm thinking that the root method may be different now though so I'm worried an ordinary version of superuser won't work.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
I decided to take the plunge, and perform the OTA, after that hopped over to HTCDev to get the bootloader unlock to root. Flashed the handy dandy CWM recovery from fastboot, and rebooted into recovery. Flashed the SuperUser package. Guess What? No ROOT.

I did a fastboot and flashed frev3vo, and ran adb shell.....although I wasn't root at the prompt, I was able to su root from adb shell, but I don't know at this point how to get back to root. I probably can't load an RUU either cause I lost S-OFF.

Problem Solved. I had been installing the superuser.zip package to get root, but the SuperSU solved my problem, now I just have to get S-OFF again at some point, but for now I am happy root!!!! That Fixed IT

How to root?

Hey all, new rezound owner, coming from a thunderbolt. I'm going to be using win7 x64. What's the easiest way to root and rom? I see a few threads here about s-off but nothing about root. I'm thinking about going with pacman rom but I am open to suggestions.
Any help is appreciated, thanks.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
You need to start with unlocking the bootloader via the HTCDEV site - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20780879&postcount=1
After that you can install a recovery, root the stock rom or install a custom already rooted rom.
If you remain s-on, you'll need to flash the kernel with any rom you want to install separately via fastboot.
One of the best guides for rooting the Rezound, although slightly dated... http://forums.androidcentral.com/re...66392-guide-unlocking-rooting-roming-faq.html
Note that Amon Ra recovery is not recommended for any ROM higher than ICS, CWM or TWRP is, you can substitute it anywhere Amon Ra is in most guides on the internet.
I recommend twrp. There are cool themes made by Reventech and its probably the most stable.
Sent from my LGMS769 using Tapatalk
I have twrp in my N7 and am familiar with it. I did have CWM but didn't like the way it hides backups, lack of versatility.
The old Tbolt I am using 4ext and is pretty good.

Root now or wait for kitkat update

Hey all. Finally decided to root my one. Does it make sense to wait for it's kitkat ota update and then root ? Would this change any of the steps in the root process?
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
You should wait, if you root you can download a Rom that is 4.4.2. But things like WiFi calling doesn't work.
Go ahead and root. After a official 4.4.2 is released someone will put out a custom ROM that will already have root as well so why wait

Yes s-off that might be patched until a new exploit like gustav said and also imo a custom recovery to have some fun and trying out a few custom roms while you wait for an update just remember to use the update you need a locked bootloader and IIRC you need a stock recovery both not hard to get (someone plz correct me if im wrong about recovery)
Thanks guys I rooted but have been having trouble getting some tethering apps to work I think my kernel is write protected? Can anyone recommend a rom that has cool customization stuff and is also good with tethering?

Edit - I flashed insertcoin and the tethering works great.

Help with droid dna root

I unlocked the phone using rumrunner, and then loaded cwm recovery. I then installed the superuser, and it appears to succeed. Then I checked root with root checker and it said sorry you don't have proper root. I have checked my steps again and again, but am still pretty new to htc.

are you s-off?
what version of SuperSu did you flash? What Rom are you running? The latest SuperSU 1.94? Doesn't work for 4.2.2. If your S-off why and have CWM recovery why not flash a custom rom?
I am trying to do just that. I can't really find any up to date info to help me step by step, so I am piecing together the newest info I can find. I am a little confused right now. Stuck on trying to root. I flashed superuser-3.1.3-arm-signed.zip

Do I need to root to load a custom rom? Is s-off =root on htc? I guess I have deleted everything off the phone and now it is stuck at the white htc screen. I can get to recovery but did not perform any backups. I can get to bootloader and recovery and I guess need to sideload a rom. I haven't had time the last few days to try anything new. Thanks for the input, I need to fix my dna so I can get off of this note 2 I don't like. I don't understand why htc doesn't sell better.... my dna was the **** before I ruined it!
S-off is secure flag removed meaning you can install unsigned firmware (eng hboot) unlocked means you can write to system partition and other secure partitions. Root means you have an app (like supersu) able to have other apps execute admin (root for Linux) commands. If you have cwm installed, just side load a pre rooted Rom from development sections.

Thanks, I will try the sideload. Any ideas where I can find such a rom. Oh wait I think I s-on ed trying to fix it.... will I still be able to fast boot USB and unlock again for s-off? I sure hope so.
