Hey all, new rezound owner, coming from a thunderbolt. I'm going to be using win7 x64. What's the easiest way to root and rom? I see a few threads here about s-off but nothing about root. I'm thinking about going with pacman rom but I am open to suggestions.
Any help is appreciated, thanks.

You need to start with unlocking the bootloader via the HTCDEV site - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20780879&postcount=1
After that you can install a recovery, root the stock rom or install a custom already rooted rom.
If you remain s-on, you'll need to flash the kernel with any rom you want to install separately via fastboot.
One of the best guides for rooting the Rezound, although slightly dated... http://forums.androidcentral.com/re...66392-guide-unlocking-rooting-roming-faq.html
Note that Amon Ra recovery is not recommended for any ROM higher than ICS, CWM or TWRP is, you can substitute it anywhere Amon Ra is in most guides on the internet.
I recommend twrp. There are cool themes made by Reventech and its probably the most stable.

I have twrp in my N7 and am familiar with it. I did have CWM but didn't like the way it hides backups, lack of versatility.
The old Tbolt I am using 4ext and is pretty good.

I just came from a g2 and must say I'm glad I did. Now time to start flashing roms. I was able to get phone unlocked and I got a custom recovery. No s_off.
I know s_off was needed for custom roms and to flash recoveryfor the g2.
Am I correct to think I need s_off to flash roms/kernels/mods?
Thanks in advance

S-off is not needed for anything really, other than flashing custom splash screens.
Install 4Ext recovery and it will flash kernels for you in recovery just as a recovery on a device with s-off would. IF you are unlocked and have a custom recovery you should be good to go, if the recovery is CWM I and nearly everyone here would advice you to switch to 4Ext just to make your life easier with wifi problems.
You can flash roms how your phone is right now through recovery with no problem though.
Sweet. Was used to needing soff for the g2. And I agree 4ext is awesome.
Just to make sure flashing is done the same as on my g2 through recovery right?
Thanks

Not the same. After you unlock the bootloader, you can root the phone (SuperUser App).
Follow these instructions starting from post 3 to get a custom recovery and root access.
That was so much easier than I expected. It was a lot harder with the G2. Thanks again

Install AmonRa recovery.
Install su from developer section on amonra
Flash SuperUser zip package from their site.
Buy a cookie, but don't eat it. Just watch it... Closely

Go to dwv thread, find sticky roll up thread. Unlock bootloader, root, flash recovery, flash Rom of choice then profit.
This does require knowledge of ADB. S-off is highly recommended.

Flash Amon Ra and then either flash a superSU.zip (check my ICS help thread for a lot of the links) or flash Amon Ra then a custom rom of your choice (recommended)

Hello, I am on 3.16 and hboot 2.09 and am not sure how to root. I have already unlocked my boot loader via HTCdev but am not sure what to do next to achieve root. I looked into Dirtyracun but since I'm on windows it seems like a ton of work so I wanted to see if there was anything simpler. So i just wanted to know if that is my only option to achieve root. Thank you
DirtyRacun is for achieving S-OFF, which is separate from rooting your phone. You said you've already unlocked your bootloader so the next step is to install a custom recovery. TWRP is the popular one for our phone. Once you have TWRP installed you can install custom ROMS on your phone and they will come with root access bundled with them.
Okay thank you for you reply. Are there any major benefits to getting s off

Major? Not that I'm aware of.
Ok thanks for the help
Sent from my EVO using xda app-developers app
There are plenty of benefits to being S-off. You are practically future-proofing your phone by gaining S-off. Gaining S-off, you no longer have to flash the kernel separately from the ROM (the exception is Hboot 1.12). You can upgrade and downgrade your firmware, and flash custom splash screens. I'd say those are pretty major. Yes, you can still flash ROM's while S-on, but being S-off simplifies the process, in addition to gaining the benefits I listed above
As far as getting your phone rooted, you need to install a custom recovery, such as TWRP. After that, you can flash a custom ROM that gives root access.

So could I flash a Rom with goo manager with s-on or would i have to do it via fastboot?

You flash ROM's through recovery. I only use Goo Manager to update my recovery. If you don't already have a custom recovery installed, head over to the TeamWin website for info on installing a recovery to your phone. Once installed you can boot into recovery & flash a ROM. For ease of installation I recommend MeanBean, which has an S-on kernel installer. There are plenty of other ROM's to choose from, though.
Also, feel free to check out Bigdaddy619's guide in the link below.

What is the most recent root method for this phone? I've read and read and I'm getting really frustrated with this. Can someone just give me a link to a root method that isn't a pain in the ass and that works. HTCdev doesn't work. I would appreciate it so much!

Moonshine will root, unlock bootloader, and s-off. All you need is to be on firmware version 2.06 or 2.07.

I'm actually trying to root 2 DNA's, and I've successfully rooted 1, but the other is still causing problems. All the software versions and everything in about phone are exactly the same on both phones, but mine is causing problems -_- anyway, how do I flash TWRP recovery now? I apologize guys, I'm not familiar with HTC's at all, I'm used to Samsung. I've rooted, unlocked and installed custom recoveries on Note II's and S III's in like 10 minutes top.

No. Windows 8/8.1 is not a supported operating system for the Rezound.
Are you S-ON or S-OFF? What recovery do you have installed?
I'm S-ON and the phone came with amon ra 3.13 pre-installed (I bought it already rooted)... I was told that in order to use TWRP all I had to do was download it and it would become my new recovery?

no you have to fastboot flash it with a windows 7 computer since your s-on...and also the recovery depends on rom...if your on Ice cream sandwhich or lower you want amon ra 3.16 only.....if Jelly bean or higher you want TWRP or CWM latest
Although there are some possible ways to flash recovery and Roms when S-On and without a Win 7 or similar PC it is very risky... If anything goes wrong at all, you will need access to a Win 7/XP machine or could brick it. Honestly I would recommend not attempting further modification of your phone without access to a PC with working Linux, Mac, or PC Windows (7 or earlier) with working fastboot.

Flashing ROMs and everything works just fine in Windows 8.1, although you might need an update to your USB controller drivers. Most computers that ship with Windows 8.1 won't use the screwy generic ones, so you should be fine using your tablet.

Incorrect. Get the GooManager app, touch the menu button choose install OpenRecoveryScript. You can flash boot.img's and recovery.img's even if s-on while you're booted into a rom.

Thanks everyone, took care of TWRP through goo manager. If I have roms on my SD card- I can just go to "flash roms" in goo manager, select the rom and select flash, wipe cache/dalvik and factory data reset and thats it?

If your s off, my scripts may only function on jb/ICS ROMs. They are untested on kitkat, search android development for Lunar Tools.
