G2 vs maxx - G2 General

I have the maxx and love it but the camera is horrid. I keep checking the back to see if the plastic is off the camera. Anyone play with both phones? Is the g2 UI at least bearable and how do the battery usage compare?

I came from the Razr Maxx. There is really no comparison between the 2. Size wise they are about the same. The G2 is so much faster and smoother. Battery life is very good, and very quick to charge too. The display is so much easier to see in direct sunlight. The Maxx was difficult to see in direct sunlight.
I hope this helps you

I was referring to To the new droid maxx. Not the RAZR maxx or the RAZR HD maxx..

Well you going to get better battery on the max since a larger battery. The G2 screen looks better and feels smoother. Has better camera than max. The only advantage I see with maxx is battery. The G2 should be able to get you through the entire day with heavy usage and some juice left

I had the new droid Maxx for 14 days. The camera was the deal breaker. I'm a camera phone person, the Maxx and all its new siblings have a poor camera in my opinion. The Maxx has insane battery life, but the L2 is well above average, especially being such a power house. Hope that info helps.
The LG UI is very bearable. I don't have issues with it.
Sent from my VS980 4G using XDA Premium 4 mobile app

Never used the Maxx, so can't compare. But battery life is as advertised, heavy use for about 12 hours now, and still 25% left. Camera is great. And the UI, which I was terrified about, is quite usable with some time getting it the way you like it. Stock launcher helps too, but I'm ok with LGs. IMO, you definitely want to change the keyboard to SwiftKey and the messaging app to Textra, but that, along with some settings tweaks and it's quite usable.

I have had both. I miss the maxx some days because of the os. I think I may go back to the maxx soon because the fluidity of it is so much better than the g2

Why did you leave the MAXX?
Sent from my Verizon LG G2

I looked at both phones and picked the G2 b/c of the camera. Important for me b/c I have 2 young children and phone pics / videos are 90% of the pics we take. Personally, i like the interface of the Maxx better b/c I prefer stock and reminded me of my GNex, but camera was the deal-breaker. I really do not need a phone this power since I don't play games, but more than happy with the purchase. Probably will have more time for "life" now since I was a flashaholic when I had my GNex.....

I have a phone issue... I like to buy them all. Lol. I have had pretty much all new phones over the last 3 years. On all carriers. Check my posts lol. But once we get aosp I will be happy again. I love stock android.

I've got both phones. I bought the Maxx outright and purchased the G2 after the unlimited data glitch this past weekend.
I like the G2 for the onscreen buttons, improved camera, and the fact that it is noticeably lighter. Battery life has been great. It doesn't last as long as the Maxx but it's close. I do miss the voice activation (I didn't use it much though) and the camera UI on the Maxx.
Biggest win for me was that it looks like developers are starting to take a look at the G2. LG finally put together a well rounded powerhouse of a phone.

Moto X is getting an update to fix its camera performance and from what i've read it is significant and does fix it well. Since the "droid" line by verizon uses the same camera sensor as the moto x MAYBE you'll get a similar update.

I have played with both extensively.

My wife owns the Maxx and I have a G2. They are both phenomenal. She has better battery life under heavier usage. But unless you are thrown in a coffin in the middle of the desert the Maxx isn't necessary because we all have enough battery for a full day of work and home before bedtime.
I prefer the LG ui over stock as I had a GNex for 2 years and found that I couldn't live without CM or AOKP to give me features. The LG is basically the same stock experience with nice icons and the ability to change the icons themes etc. I love knock on and I try to knock on everything to no avail lol. They are both great phones but the giant beautiful screen that is fit into a phone that is exactly the same size as the maxx is better for me personally. The voice recognition on the Maxx is not a gimmick ...its serious business. But it isn't anything you cant live without if you setup tasker to do things automatically

Galaxy nexus or razr

Hey I just got on Verizon for the gal nexus and I want to know if any of you guys considered the gnex instead of the razr or even went as far as trading your galaxy nexus for a razr. Just currious cause gnex isn't as "super" as u thought although a great device none the less

Went for the Razr after seven days of Nexus testing. Mostly due to brighter screen, SD card slot, camera and battery.

Same here, first had the Razr then the GN. One week with the GN was enough, got the Razr again, better all round device.

Well, I buy the phones....so yeah...n RAZR was my first choice. Ive been buying every phone in the franchise since the V3
I initially wanted the nexus, but Hort tired if all the delays and got the razr. And I have to say, I liked it better then what the galaxy nexus sounds like. I'm impressed with how solid the phone feels. After coming from the thunderbolt. The features of the razr I like better and we won't have to wait to long to get ice cream sandwich.

I had the GSM galaxy nexus and now I have the GSM Droid razr
-Pros (galaxy nexus)
Ice cream sandwich
Better battery life
The best or one of the best looking phones in the smartphone industry
Panoramic setting for camera
NFC
Super amoled HD
Front facing 2mp camera
-Cons
5mp camera
Soft speaker
Signal issues
Lack of micro SD slot
-Pros (razr)
8mp camera
Better speaker
Motocast
qHD display
Android 4 standard keys (pro or con depending on what you like)
Micro SD slot
-Cons
1.3 MP camera
2.3.5 android (for the time being)
Wide design
Battery life
In the end both phones are awesome but I feel like the Droid razr is more for me.

I wanted the nexus; but when i tired one it had a few issues; then i read the boards and saw others (but not everyone) had the same issues. No clue if bad samples or flaws in the phone (the major issue I noticed was very soft speaker; and on my test calls the person sounded garbled; though they said i was very clear). That coupled with signal issues i've read about scared me off. To be honest if the rezound had the razr's screen I would have gone that route (biggest flaw of hte rezound screen is weak visibility outside and highly reflective). To be honest I wished verizon had gotten the galaxy 2; I think my biggest dislike with the razr is the non-changeable battery (coupled with limited battery life) and verizion bloat wear. I hope ICS lets us disable some of this verizon crap; i find it laughable that the biggest issue with the moto. upgrade last week is some people have issue with verizion location agent chewing up battery life.
The above rant is relevant in that on the nexus (almost ) no mandatory verizon apps.
Nexus seems to have a lot of connectivity issues not only with data but also in general with calls. Granted it has ICS give it a few months and RAZR will have it. They both have super amoled screens and almost identical processors. GN being slightly newer.
I say if the RAZR had ICS now, it would win EVERY comparison review. Most places I read that compare the 2 prefer the razr and either put it at a tie or give it to the GN just for ICS... Just by having ICS it shouldn't outweigh its short comings.
Battery is fine on my Razr. I donno how it could be a con. Better than my rooted cm7 DX even.

No Nexus here. Two of my coworkers have them and I've played extensively.
Nice phone (feels good in the hand) but not superior to the razr from a hardware stance. The novelty will wear off once we get ICS. If we got our BL unlocked it would be game over.

Should I switch to the Droid razr?

I got the galaxy nexus, but I cannot stand the signal issues. I can't use my phone at work while my coworkers laugh at me with full bars and data connection. So I have compared the Droid to my nexus and it does have significantly better reception. So is the Droid razr worth switching from the galaxy nexus?

I changed from a SGS2 to a RAZR for the same reason. Far better reception and call quality. You won't regret it.
Quadrant scores mean SFA when you can't actually use it for a phone call - which is why we buy them!

The nexus felt cheap to me. ICS is coming to the razr soon enough, besides id rather they work all the bugs out before pushing it to the razr. As you stated the signal strength is a problem with the nexus. Also no usb mass storage and no sd card slot factored into my decision. The hardware is basically the same. Also i might be a little bias towards Motorola as every Motorola device ive owned has been top notch.
I am sure many will disagree with me, but I preferred the razr over the nexus.

I totally agree with you. Motorola makes some solid phomes. I owned the atrix 4g and I loved it. The last Samsung phone I had was the captivate and it was one horrible esperience. Yellow screens, poor battery life, GPS broken, and many more. The nexus does feel cheap but sits nicely in my hand I can type with one hand with is a big plus. While I tried holding the razor and it felt akward in the hand. I also seen that the phone is too skiny wide to type with one hand. Well we'll see. I'm waiting on the maxxx gonna check it out and make my final decision. Thank you guys for all the answers. Really helped me out.

I had a Gnex but returned last week. I loved owning an unlocked device (and playing with various roms), but the poor phone radio and battery life killed me. Jumping on the RazrMaxx on Thursday.
It's a real shame about the Razr. I do really like Motorola devices, but without a unlockable bootloader I just can't purchase it. ICS on my Nexus S has spoiled me.
My RAZR has had great battery life...much better than my wife's iPhone 4. I like the Verizon network so unlocking isn't a concern here. I agree the thinness of the phone was awkward but I put an otter box on anything over 199.00 lol But I can't say I would switch if i already had either the Nexus or RAZR. Too much of a hassle. Hope you enjoy whatever you choose.

Thinking about switching from a Nexus

So I have cracked the screen on my Galaxy Nexus for a second time. I am thinking about getting the razr maxx with the insurance instead of another nexus. I was hoping you all could give me some straight forward feedback about the device. For example, is the battery life really that great? What is development like here on xda. How is the screen? Call clarity and so forth. Thank you all in advance and I appreciate your time for reply.

Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
I have prob 5 friends w modded nexuses. The screen is sharper on the nexus but much easier to read in any kind of light from me on the maxx. The battery if amazing. I can avg 5 hrs screen on time on 3g alone. The camera is actually much better than I originally thought and takes nice pictures very easily but no camera is as fast as the nexus...although I have only seen a stock nexus actually work correctly in the camera Dept.
I miss ics as I have had it on many phones since last oct but the ics leak is good for the RAZR. Still great battery life there. I rooted mine and froze a bunch of apps today that I don't use but I get the same battery life whether I freeze them or not.
One mild complaint that you may have is the RAZR gallery has a terrible pinch zoom bug. I use quickpic for my gallery and froze the stock gallery along w a lot of other stuff.
In the end its a phone. Calls are clear. Reception is great. And it really last all day. No rebooting all the time. No errors. No problems here. I like that.

Having never owned a Nexus I cannot compare the two but can offer my opinions of the MAXX as it compares to many Android phones from my past. The battery is simply amazing, best I could have ever hoped for. I can abuse my phone (granted that term is subjective) throughout the day and still have some juice left when I go to bed at night. My dad only uses his for calls and his lasts 3-4 days consistantly.
The screen is OK. IMO it is far inferior to the GSII that I came from. If you look close enough you can see a slight screen door effect that looks rather grainy. Not as bad as my Photon was, but still not as good of a screen as I have seen in other phones.
Motorola phones are not known for having a big dev community. I saw a lot more dev activity when I had an EVO 4G, EVO 3D and GSII. That may be the deal breaker for you if you are looking for much more than an out of the box experience.
Having said all of that, if you want an extremely solid phone, then the MAXX can deliver that. My experience in reception is much better than anything I ever owned on Sprint or Verizon and I live in an area with great coverage.
Good luck with whatever you choose.

I would love a gsm maxx razr, now it's only 4 USA and I'm out of the borders.
I like razr, gotcha XT910 in december. Bought it because its amazing hardware , but I can't say I'm happy stuck in 2.3.5 GB due locked bl. Others devices in same categorie like SGII, Arc S,, and HTC now are running ICS flawless. To us, we can.only hope get hands on ICS by Q2,, at least.
Also, this is my second razr, and tomorrow I'll leave it to motorola service center again. I've a reason to be disapointed.
Have top phones since 90's and this is far away my best phone ever. Moved to android (came from 'siri' phone) because it's very popular in Brazil, and overall razr design. But you need luck to get a razr with no problem at all, at least, those made here, all LatAm, have to say. I dont see guys from XT912 (you have one right?) complain' about it.
May be too late indeed to motorola unlock bl, SGSIII is on the way with a 1.8 Quade core....

Although the ICS leaks and ROMs are really good. They are not flawless. And won't be until the official release. Even the devs admit that. They all have bugs, albeit very minor bugs.
The big things for me was the HDMI out and the micro sd card. If you get a maxx then you get the awesome battery. While the dev for the phone is low right now, ICS is just around the corner and with a boot workaround here/being worked on I think the razr is the better phone.
both are great devices. so it depends what you want to do with each.
if mods, hacks, roms, flashing are your thing - Galaxy Nexus
limited tinkering - moto razr.
having said that, razr has better battery life. very lightweight. better camera too. plus storage is expandable.
I had the Nexus before I had my Razr Maxx.... Night and day. Radio was garbage in comparison on the Nexus, always bad reception. Battery life is SO much better. Razr feels much more solid. Aside from ICS, the nexus honestly seemed like a piece of junk when I got this.
Is cm9 available yet? Can you even flash custom roms?

Cause no Samsung phone has ever had problems. Give this video a break as Adam has no clue about the razr. He doesnt dev for it so he has no reason to talk ****. Just because they built it this way does not make it any less disposable than other phones. If it breaks and its your fault, then guess what, you fed up. If its not your fault you get a replacement or switch.

Probably better to ask in the s3 forum.

I kinda miss my samsung screen, but my maxx is superior in every other area. (well, except bootloader)
Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk 2
i have a s3 and my wife a razr maxx. what you will miss the most going from maxx to s3 is probably the radio reception. motorola in general has better radios than samsung therefore reception will be notably better. for instance, my phone and wife's phone side by side...i'm seeing -75db on her phone and mine has -92db. i know from gb to ics/jb can have a difference of up to 10db but still. 3db is double the gain. i can almost never get 5 bars (usually 2-4) whereas she usually has 4-5 bars (orange county has damn good verizon service). i've never dropped a call or had any problems though...and as far as lte bandwidth, there's a lot of variation but i attribute that more to external network related variables (load and such). from what i read, s3 has much more freedom when it comes to rom/kernel customization than the razr. i'm currently doing research into custom roms for my wife's phone for a reliable daily driver. i'm using the synergy rom with o/c'd ziggy kernel. very nice daily driver and much better than stock for me. maxx of course has better battery life out of the box. in order to keep up, i ordered a 4400 mah battery that added about 1/3" to my phone. i actually like the extra bulk as it felt too thin and flimsy in my hand. i came from a thunderbolt and that with stock battery is only ~1/8" maybe 3/16" thinner than my ext bat s3. for me, it's negligible for the batt life increase. s3 screen is notably better than the razr screen. wife likes my phone she wants one now. i might give her mine when the s4 comes out
also touchwiz vs motoblur i'd say motoblur is a bit better as it's a little more pure android than touchwiz. it's personal preference. i like the aosp/aokp roms too for pure android goodness.

Is it still worth it to buy a RAZR

Is it still worth it to buy a RAZR coming from a thunderbolt? I know anything will be better then what I have now, but I want to keep my unlimited data. I'm mixed between the nexus and RAZR since they are both around the same price on eBay. I would prefer the large battery since I use my phone now as a hotspot.

I would go to MAXX due to batt life and aspect/quality of materials

Razr also have good dev support i would recommend razr series anytime coz of slimness build quality and performance

I just came from a Thunderbolt to a RAZR. You may have even seen me in the forums there if you viewed them... I was very active. Needless to say, it's worth it to try a RAZR. Compared to how the Thunderbolt was made, this phone physically feels cheap in your hand... but it's no competition to the Bolt.
I'd try it out if I were you. With you also being a Thunderbolt user, especially after who knows how long, I'm sure you'll have a pleasant experience.

If you don't play heavy games, the RAZR MAXX will do very well. If you like to play too though, better pick the Razr Maxx HD because the chip is newer. Not that the RAZR Maxx can't handle, but it show it's age like when playing the Iron Man 3 for example.
Thanks for the input. In have had the TB to long, since it was released.

Definitely a great upgrade from a TBolt. It's still a top phone going over a year and a half now. Dual core 1.2 and a decent screen. They only thing I would want upgraded (still content with) is the screen. It could be more HD. The battery is ok being has I have an OG Razr. I definitely recommend the MAXX if it is in your budget. I came from Droid 2.

The screen on this XT912 RAZR is MUCH better than the Thunderbolts. This screen is amazing.

Well i'd rather go for a Nexus 4 or a Maxx HD.
I, too, had a Thunderbolt since the day it was released, but inherited my wife's XT912 a couple of months ago, after she upgraded to a Note 2. Since HTC released ICS for the TB, I've been occasionally switching back to the old' "Bolt" every now and then, and its still really quite useful. I would get a RAZR Max HD, if you can afford it, as I am underwhelmed by the poor camera on my Razr Maxx.

Well yea it is. I'm saying the only thing I really want to improve on this phone is the screen. In no way was I comparing it to the Tbolts screen.
