Most reliable ROM - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

seams most of the great DEVS are moving on. So thankful for all there hard work. And seeing I will not be in any position to upgrade from our beloved Fassy anytime soon, wanted to ask, over all, what do you guys consider the most reliable and stable ROM for our Fassy ?
Sent from my SCH-I500 using xda app-developers app

I kept coming back to Helly Bean time and time again because everything worked. I always had some sort of problems with other roms but Helly never let me down. Only downside is after about a month or so your system will start to get sluggish and only a fresh install will make it feel really snappy again. I guess you could do a Nandroid and just restore it every month or so and use Titanium to restore apps.

There is no such thing as BEST, MOST RELIABLE, MOST STABLE all you will get is a list of what each user prefers. It is encouraged to go through development section and find what is best for you, most popular roms will always be at the top of the list.

Have a great day!

[Q] ICS roms to consider for Samsung Galaxy S2 I9100

Just rooted my SGS2 with this forums help after got fed up with Samsungs decision to delay even further ICS release for sim free owners. Flashed Pure 7.2 rom and am kinda happy with it. But would like to give a try other roms too. Pure seems to be so much better battery wise then stock. Google experience and most important no bloatware.
Am looking for a smooth and battery friendly rom. Am looking forward for a stable CyanogenMod 9 release but till now exploring the option.
Many thanks in advance ...
There si no such thing as the best rom. The best rom is the one that you prefer, take a look around the SII page and try a few. When you have gone through a few choose which you like and stick with that one
If you want a solid rom then go for checkrom which is gb and based on tw but there is no fully stable ics rom...wait for cm9 to get stable.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA
actually there are a few roms that are quite stable... omega, litening as well as wanam are the ones i ve used so far.... although there is still a lot of improvement for these roms, if you wanna check out ics I think they are good enough to give them a try...
Posts like this are usually closed as best does not exist and the same question will be posted thousands of times in a year .

Thank you everyone who took their time to post here for me and maybe other interested. Firstly I do really understand that there is no such thing as best. And I really never meant to ask for a best rom. I just wanted advise on what would be at least worth to start to try. Which ones are better out there. I just started rooting as really got fed up with Samsungs delays and some really unnecessary for my liking apps included (like bbc iplayer etc)... There are so many roms that I would not really want trying all. Therefore seeking for advise for some better roms out there. And not in their experimental or so stage.
Thanks @frankimm but as you mentioned its not fully stable yet I will skip it on this occasion.
Thanks @pokkas88 I was actually considering lite'ning rom myself. Will check on omega.
My first flash was and is Pure ICS v7.2. It is nice and stable. yesterday with my regular usage got more then 24 out my regular usage. Where on stock 2.3.4 would last only half a day... But something is not right with contacts there. Was lagging when trying to organised and join contacts (google, facebook, skype...) and phone app seems laging a bit too. therefore a bit annoying. otherwise solid and stable rom....
Still hope to hear more opinions...
forgot
forgot to mentioned. Roms with better support from other developers would be probably priority. What I mean the roms that get dedicated addons as I undestadand addons are compatible only with certain roms. And would not really want to get creative in trying to force addons whilst am still learning here...
I highly recommend Hydrog3n rom - I've upgraded to this from Check ROM, prior to finding this I tried several other ICS AOKP to find stability issues, I have to say this is a fantastic rom and cannot recommend you try it enough.
Failing this, Check ROM was great; I had issues with it rebooting or not reconnecting to my mobile network if I lost signal, and ultimately I wanted to do away with Stock so I went for an AOKP rom.
Omega is my fav especially black blue theme
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
My hones opinion and just in the process of deleting ICS rom number twelve . Non are up to scratch and ICS is not as good as 2.3.6 .
jje
I recommend "Resurrection ics remix" by westcrip. it is really stable. And soon he will publish 4.0.4 AOKP. just give him a try
Just try them all until you like one, there is no other way

samsung fascinate

OK my wife has a fascinate and it lately been crapping out and resetting allot, deleting all her messages and call logs and such. She is sick of it and wants an iphone but I think if she lets me root it and install a new rom it will be better than iphone(partly think like that cuz i don't like the hype iphone has) so she said to go ahead and try it to save us money(probably a catch I know lol) but my question is what Rom should I put on there that will be smooth with everything working and one I don't have to mess with all the time. I have the DINC and running evervolv jb rom for some time now and its been flawless except the camcorder not working as of yet. She uses her vid recorder allot since kids here are very entertaining lol.
So what rom works great with the Fascinate and how easy is it to root the phone?
First of all this should have been posted in Q&A, the development forum is for well... development. Anyway, use droidstyle's guide for any and all questions about rooting, and as far as a good daily driver, I'd say CM10 nightlies. AOKP ICS Milestone 6 if you don't want to worry about updating, but Jelly Bean > ICS in pretty much every way
ok was just reading some things, do I have to root the phone or just download the rom I want like in his guide? she has stock phone, froyo i believe? I'm not tooo keen on ics since my nightmare with my inc, lol
Dang just lost all i was typing...
Here i go again...
Yes you will need to root the phone
Just plan a solid evening/other several couple hours with lots of free time ... ... getting it going and started can be a bit lengthy your 1st time when you are trying to be all cautious and stuff.... ... And it's a bit different terminology from htc
I would recommend aopk build 4 ... ... "Jellybean" is the newest stuff,, very solid,, and getting the development/support we all love
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1847225
Click on the aokp jellybean nightlies link under the download section
Very few bugs and most are very minor ... especially considering the HUGE performance gains, battery life, and fun over the froyo ,,, gingerbread, or ice cream sandwich builds
Droidstyle guide has all the info for rooting/upgrading ...
Section 4 for jellybean install
(read, read, read and read again )
And Googles gapps too
Make nandroid backup once you get rooted and into the recovery program, called "cmw boot recovery",,,
That will let you do a full reinstall if you want to go back... ....(but you will never look back...it's that good)
I also recommend to backup using either or both :: titanium backup :: reware mybackup ... i use the Pro of reware mybackup because i use it for: sms, mms, contacts, call history, etc
These let you save and reinstall installed/ favorite/ bought apk's, etc
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rerware.android.MyBackup
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup
Sent from my swagger
Actually you don't need to root it's a waste of time unless you want to use titanium or something to backup apps or data. The linked guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1238070 seems like a good place to start. Keep in mind it will repartition the phone so you will loose all data, so any apps not backed up or numbers not saved to the Google account will be gone. I would recommend CM10 as the best rom to start with, especially since you probably won't be playing with the phone much.
Also try using Q/A for this type of stuff. Development is for rom releases, kernels, or other developments. Keeps this section cleaner, and the mods don't like when you do it

[Q] Best STABLE Rom for the NT?

This question sounds or could be in the Nook Tablet Q & A forum. The closest thing to stable http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1877217 beside certain games title don't work as noted in "Known Issues:" may want to try this even though it listed as UNOFFICIAL. 12/10 is pretty close to a complete solution if you don't mind flashing updated roms and gapps.

I know that when I asked this question once I got this reply which actually was good advice. If you ask 10 people which ROM is best you will get ten different answers. You just need to do your research and pick the one that will give you what you need with the least amount of issues. What is good for someone else is not always good for you. I still use cm7. Doesn't mean that it is the best available, but it provides what I need. It is hard to decide what to use, just try them all until you find what is good for you.

Thanks, I usually try and do my research before asking a question, I've been flashing since the OG Droid but there's nothing solid for the NT as mentioned above by Vector. I'm aware of the few ROMs out with some issues. Getting 10 different answers will always give me an idea of where 10 different ROMs stand which will give me a better insight on them so I don't mind the different opinions and suggestions. The NT is my 8 year old daughter's and I want something stable enough so she won't get frustrated with it but I guess I'll flash something and hope for the best. Once again, thanks for the input.
The most stable ROM by far is celticwebsolutions cm 8&16 GB beta. I have flashed about every ROM available for nook tab. I have run this ROM for months now and even lasted ten days off the charger without a reboot or dead battery( ultra light use of course). Cm 9 and 10 are fun to play with' but are plagued with reboots due to 3.0 kernel issues' etc. Especially for an 8 year old' you don't want freezes and reboots requiring a hard reboot. I really love the cm10 ROMs, but even 1 or 2 freezes is too many for me for a heavy user such as myself. I keep trying them and always revert t cm 7 beta. You are not missing out on any apps sticking with cm7 over the newer builds. A slicker ui and advanced ecosystem are nice though. So nice, in fact I have moved onto a nexus 7 and now my 2.5 y/o son mainly uses my nook now to play angry birds and some others. He navigates around with ease' I would feel uncomfortable setting him up on cm10 as he would often have to come to me for a reset. For us adults' an slightly unstable ROM with extra bells and whistles is just fine. Half the fun for me is troubleshooting and trying new ones. I would go with the mentioned cm 7 and call it a day.

Firstly you need to remember to post any threads in the correct sections and a thread that starts with [Q] has no other place then Q&A.
The reason I've closed this thread is because best ROM threads aren't encouraged on the forum due to exactly what's been said already, you ask 10 people you get 10 different answers, it's too subjective and goes nowhere. The only way you'll know is by reading the development threads and also trying ROM's out for yourself. All best ROM threads get closed for these reasons and why you don't see active best ROM threads here.
Thanks

[Q] Unable to find stable ROM for Note (Samsung ROM included)

Hey All,
First, and most importantly, I would like to say hello and THANKS to all of the people on this forum and devs who put together and support CFW's. You all do great jobs, and should be proud of your work.
Second, I have not posted here before since my questions were always answered with a search of the forums. This time it is not the case as I will explain.
I have a Galaxy note from Bell and I think it is an awesome piece of hardware (so much so I also bought a Note 10.1). I was quite happy with it for a long time but my patience for touchwiz eventually wore thin. Turning on the phone to make a call or text and having to wait while the phone finishes some phantom background task was incredibly annoying. Why does Samsung make great hardware and then ruin it with bloatware and junk?
This led me to to find a CFW which did not have this issue. I tried several and was blown away by the quality and completeness of these roms. They solved so many problems and did things the way the should have been done in the first place. I was in heaven. There was just one problem...stability. None of them slowed to a crawl and were always blisteringly fast, but the phone would lock up and reboot once every day or 2. This was not acceptable for a phone which is needed for work and emergencies. I would assume that the small number of these phones makes it less likely for the roms to be tested with them to the same extent as for a Note 2 or S3. I have even tried touchwiz-based roms which do not crash, but have the same occasional unresponsiveness of the samsung original.
So here is my question: has anyone found a rom which is STABLE in a real way? When I search I see people who say roms are stable but they never qualify their opinion with crash frequency so it remains a purely relative term. I love this phone and would really love to have a rom like PAC with all of its awesomeness but stability is king for me.
Here is what I have tried, full wipes done before each flash:
Cyanogenmod 10.0, 10.1
PAC rom
Padawan
Blackstar Blackjelly, 2 different versions
Thanks.
Jellybean Sandwich is really fantastic. It's based on ICS, so if you require Jellybean specific features it might not be for you.

How would one "qualify" their opinion with "crash frequency" if the rom they are using doesn't crash? There are many more roms than the ones you have listed.
Also, it has been my exprience that the 4.3 roms are very stable.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I527 using xda app-developers app
I also second Jellybean sandwhich. It's great for stability, and since you would like to know to what extent I mean "stable" then this is what I mean...this ROM has NEVER crashed or rebooted on me, and for countless other users. It is an ICS based rom, with added jellybean features. It's a lightweight ROM, with not as many features as say AOKP, but many of those features can be added with "Xposed Mod" if you've ever used it. So you get the "speed" of jellybean, with the absolute stability of ICS. I highly recommend you try it out. People who have had trouble with the ROM (there are very few) have all induced the problems on their own, or probably have faulty hardware. I can vouch that if you wipe clean, and flash correctly everything will work right out of the box, except USB mount (which there is a fix to make it work), and a bug that gives you and "sd card damaged" notification when nothing is really wrong.
EDIT: If you want a fast touchwiz based ROM that is not necessarily Jellybean. I recommend Novena ROM. It's an older ROM but one of the fastest ROMs you can get for our phone. You may have to look on the second page in the development section as it hasn't been updated in months
Go to an ICS rom if you want speed and stability. No matter what anyone on these forums will say, you cannot, cannot, cannot find speed and stability in ANY jb rom. Some may have stability, but lack speed. If you just use them [jb roms] for a while, you can forget that they aren't fast and become accustomed to them, but if you touch an ICS ROM or a newer galaxy phone, you'll quickly be reminded that you're delusional.
both Touchwiz Rom's are stable. they are rocks and will not give you a random reboot. if you have read like you said, than you may have even seen one of several postings in the Padawan tread. if you haven't.......p355-378 is a good read and will lay out some solid fundamental settings which would lead you to nirvana.
many also seem to overlook one 4.2 rom, as even I did for the longest time. Sons of Android or SOA is the ONLY 4.2 rom out there that I got no randoms with and did not need to seek an alternate kernel.
those are just 2 roms. everyone will tell you, every phone is a bit different. finding a rom that is going to satisfy everyone the same. its like voting for a President now and days. you don't really vote for the one you want anymore, its voting for the lesser of two evils. everybody knows, you cant have good without evil.
you are getting some good personal opinions here. it sounds like you know what your looking for, but you have yet to decide as to what you are willing to tolerate. we all tolerate something for the rom that we want. what evil are you willing to tolerate? only you can answer
me........stability is what I seek, and lack of some bells and whistles is what I tolerate. as mentioned previously, I get some of that back with Xposed and keep my stability.
good luck my friend
Honestly, I'm using a stock deodexed/debloated ROM. Works just fine for me.
SkeletonKey, Padawan, JellyBeer, Prophylactic are all also great ones that I personally used a lot.
Your mileage may vary though.

I've been on Revolt for 2 weeks and no crashes. The only 'bug' is that sometimes when you press PWR to activate the phone, the capacitive buttons highlight but the screen stays blank. Press PWR twice (once to turn 'off' and again to turn back on) and you'll see the lock screen.
I was playing with the tweaks a lot, so this 'bug' could just be from something I did. Other than that it's blistering fast compared to Bell stock (yes, I'm on Bell too and feel your pain) and I'd recommend it to anyone.

The current beanstalk is smooth and stable.
There is also a new 4.3 ROM in the Q&A section that has been extremely stable on my phone the past two days. The kernel built into the ROM is a version I beleive of the Cl3Kener kernel and can be OC'd and what not. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2448069

go to rom

So I'm giving my note i717 to my niece who just destroyed her s2 skyrocket. I just picked up a note 3 on launch day. Since I have been out of the loop and already spent well over an hour browsing threads I figured I should ask for some help. What is everyone go to rom. would like to give her a 4.3 rom but not sure how development has gone lately. Just need stable and best battery life. my old favorites where carbon 4.2 and the only 4.3 was the 8-14 cm 10.2 or something like that. I really appreciate it and I know these questions are sometimes frowned upon. I also remember the stock att rom being complete garbage.I appreciate it so much!!:good:
by ROM I also mean a really good date. Not all bids are equal or w/e eg:cm10.2 8-14
I prefer stock based like Padawan and Blackjelly. But the most stable 4.3 for me is Slimbean. Its light weight and blacked out which means good battery life.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda app-developers app
Yes I remember slim bean baing extremely ..... slim=) Thanks for your response.
I have had very good success with Hellybean also, but Profresh is probably right.
4.3 have come quite a ways in a short time and are much better and more reliable than 4.2. question though, and this leads to why Profresh has made a wise suggestion. is it your intention to sort of monitor the progress of the Note after you give it away?
even though 4.3 is very good, there is still work continuing in a feverish pace. updates galore. good for most folks like us. but is your neice going to come over every week or so, so you can update her phone?
Black Jelly and Padawan are both super solid. requiring little to no maintenance. perfect for the teenager on the go.
just something to think about
XDA is a development site not a support site. As such members are expected to do the research, read through the development threads and decide what is BEST for them. The only results that would be posted here are what each member has found to be BEST for them by experimentation based on their phone/usage/setup/apps/signal strength. Please take the time to read through those development threads to learn all about the software you are about to drastically alter your very expensive device with.
Sorry for the inconvenience and thank you for your cooperation.
