When do you guys think we can expect either of these updates? In see a lot of other handsets getting the 4.3 update now.
When will Sony act?

That was exactly my thought when I was going to change device.
I thought about it for a second and then I got the ZU instead.
Reasons for my choice?
-old processor
-no sd slot
-extreme fragility
-LG
-no LTE
-no USB OTG
And others that do not come to mind right now.
I agree, it's cool to have the latest OS, but going through several devices I came to the conclusion that it's better to have a .1 revision less but more stability instead of the latest rushed just to have it.
If I feel the need to have more I always have custom ROMs.
And hey, my wife's Z had 4.1.2 when she got it, and a few months later it was updated to 4.2.2, so I'm not feeling "left out" by Sony in terms of updates.

Feel the same too, Sony seems to keep they devices up to date very well, but I can understand they do not want to make so many different updates. 4.3 and 4.4 come far too close for give want to company to update all the time.

I guess if you have to have the latest OS you just need to install a custom Rom..
I've surprised myself this time though.. I've just stayed at the stock rom with Xposed etc installed.
I could never have done that with my old Samsung device, but the Sony experience is much closer to stock.
same problem...still waiting for Sony to update...others have made it already..but dnt know for what Sony is waiting.....

Jeez, I'm used to Samsung update cycle which was pretty slow. November would be pretty good in my opinion for an update. I'm a fan of Sony launcher so far, as other people have said it's very close to stock which suits me well.

I wouldn't mind skipping from 4.2 to 4.4 since 4.3 doesn't really have a whole lot of features that I'm interested in. I'm getting a Nexus 5 as my main device anyways though, so the Ultra will be more for music and comics.
I'm running 4.3 now... obviously CM10.2...
But that latest update coming 4.3.1 is only 10mb... stated as... "stability and improvement fixes"
I think we need to get out of the mindset that an 'update' is actually going to make our life better. Sometimes the update is more of a parallel move, and not a linea increase...

Well actually they drop their devices, like they did with x8 its got only 2.1 official firmware, but since Xperia U is anew device we will get ICS and in nearls future i hope JB. Sony is slow with their updates but they dont like other manufacturers, they did their updates unique and smooth like butter and tottaly different from others and for that they need some time
I remember the x8, I still have 2 of them. Both run bug free 2.3 overclocked and they never give any problems. I would have enjoyed the phone a lot less if it were not for the amazing devs over there, stock 2.1 is very limited and boring. I hope sony dont forget about the U and deny us JB. @dsaklein its nice to see a familiar name around here, x8 was getting a little old.

Nope a dev on here can add bloatware in a few minutes code it properly in a few day day so I'm sure an entire team of programmers at at&t can do this fast enough. It's marketing on Googles behalf. ? Hmmm I don't know, maybe because it's not carrier branded, a clean-slate version of Android, and significantly cheaper to buy off-contract... Seems to me like there's still plenty of incentive to buy the N4 regardless if the OG has JB or not.
Whatever the reason, I really like this phone and am glad I bought it. However, unless things change before my contract is up, I'll avoid LG like the plague when choosing my next device. There is no reason anyone can give to me...to me... not anyone else, that in my mind justifies this piece of hardware not having official JB released for it by now. The work the developers are doing with one hand tied behind their back is awesome, but it shouldn't have to come to this. I'll vote with my dollars next time and go back to Samsung. It's a shame, too.
Like what has been mentioned and discussed ad nauseum since December, this device very well could have shipped with JB if they wanted it to. It most certainly could have been upgraded by now, especially with international versions of JB out. That tells me it is 100% AT&T who is holding this up.
Have a great weekend! Can't wait to see what the devs have cooked up!

ATT is probably too busy updating the note, note2, s3, one x, and all the other big selling devices. That said, looking at LG open source site there is only one device showing more than one os update, and that was froyo to gingerbread to ice cream sandwich. So jellybean will probably be the end of official updates for this phone.

In this case it's AT&T. If our developers can reverse engineer a hack to convert this to an N4, the mfg could have put JB on this device with the schematics and kernel files in their possession from day one. There are no two ways about it, simple as that. I mean they built both phones at the same time with almost identical specs for crying out loud..

Google shouldn't have anything to do with us not seeing an update, just like how the N4 users aren't thanking LG for their updates.

I don't get this kinda logic. Google has to build and test the next update, sometimes the update has bugs. Would you want a new update just because it's new and have problems with it? I wouldn't. I'd rather samsung wait and finalize their update, while waiting for Google to fix any problems.
Samsung still has to build and test their rom. To me as long as I get the update I'm fine. If I wanted updates that badly I'd be with the nexus 4

So if im understanding what youre saying youd like a still broken 4.2.2 update? Its not fixed yet, its been months now since it was released. I think we take the L on this one and move on
Stock 4.2.2 crippled my N7, so much so that i literally gave it away. At this point, as ashamed as I am to say it...samsung has done more to fix it than google has
Verizon recently jumped the gnex from whatever it was on straight to 4.2.2. Chances are we wont see a 4.2.2 OTA or leak before Android 5 (or w.e its called) is announced in May. 4.2.2 was meant to be a foundation for 5, so why not skip the 4.2 update, which, IMO doesnt bring much thats meaningful to the table anyway and go straight for the next version?

Hopefully they upgrade the Verizon variant too. I am new to VZN (came from Sprint) and from what I read/heard the updates come late if at all.
I would love to use the finger hover feature on the s4 with my note 2. Doesn't seem like it would be tough since the s-pen code probably looks for data from the pen and ignores fingers which is likely more complex. I personally have waited for tablets to add this ability for things like menus on non mobile pages so if this update does happen on the note line I might consider the note 10.1 over a nexus 10 or a 4th gen ipad.
I know the s-pen does the same thing but I personally find the tip is difficult to depress at angles and using it for drawing is basically impossible since the screen position sensor resolution isnt quite fine enough for precise pixel selection.
Half the people, including those on the forum probably dont even know half of the features the n2 even come with.
For instance, on a list of people (sms, phome, contacts), you can press on a contact and slide left to text or right to call. One more exampke are the s-pen gestures....sigh....

Honestly, I tried Kit Kat on my Galaxy Nexus and I don ´t know what to think about. Yeah it is faster, but LG G2 is fast anyway. Can ´t find anything which would be esential.
I hope that at least battery will improve. Otherwise it´s not big deal.

To be honest, i'll rather stay on cyanogenmod or pacman even if its jellybean than kitkat stock without the extra stuff.
I still have a hard time understanding why Nexus 4 got it before G2 because Nexus 5 is basicly same hardware as G2, but it doesnt bother me so much.

I have been running cyanogenmod since it came to g2 and i consider it stable, especially after todays snapshot release.
For me it doesnt matter if its a nexus or not i flash a custom rom anyways, and in this case the g2 hardware is better than n5 with the same software i see no reason to get n5 besides the price if you live in a country where playstore devices are available.
So you're saying its bug free? Looking at the thread it looks like a bunch of force closing etc. Etc.

After watching thousands of videos about android L I'm really thinking about changing my G2 for Nexus 5. Maybe because I had nexus 4 and maybe because of so many developers, I dont know. Anyone else ?
I don't care about android L and for me G2 is still better choice
No thanks. We'll have Android L soon anyway either through the upcoming port OCEANDEV and Co is working on or through CM

I did switch, returning my N5 tomorrow, its not worth the battery sacrifice. That and L is way, way to buggy. While i was using the N5 i went back to 4.4.4, L is that unusable as it is now.
Got N5 here dual booting L
anyone in the uk/london area wants to swap?
edit.. phrase went badly wrong lol

Hmm well that'd be an argument from the other side. Thanks for your input. I, for one, love my g2. N5 is lame sauce!
We are gonna get L soon anyway, why sacrifice amazing 4k camera and massive battery just to get android a month or two earlier than the rest of people on xda, and those people who actually wait for carrier updates. They would probably get L 6 months later, if they ever do get it. (Not counting HTC)

I don't know or it still exists but i also read that LG G2 Official cm11 builds had Lagg because of some outdated thing and those kind of things but it got fixed on unofficial builds right? Also the official bug list god.

I hope they will fix the things in cm12 but else the awesome devs here will fix those problems:victory:

Best case i got was 4hours screen on time on about 17 hours total time. Which is a good 50% less than the g2 on a bad day.
Not saying this is what everyone will get, but for me that is the case.
Yeah I know, G2 has amazing camera and battery but on the other hand, my previous phone was nexus 4 with LOT of development and I'm kinda used to have all the latest builds

No, that would be silly.
nope

To have it earlier? No way.. thats not even a valid reason to switch the better G2 for an N5 (the N5 is great too, no doubt, but the G2 has better battery and camera - for me).
We'll have Android L sooner or later too, so.. just patience and its fine

Mine previous phone was also the N4 but the reason i quitted was that there were too many roms like on the N5 which all are just looking AOSP so no thanks. You can go to the N5 if you really want much development but the g2 also got already much development. Else when we figured out the black vertical lines issue and when i will receive my G2 then i will try to make a Port guide how to port the roms just like Porting nexus 4 roms to optimus g:laugh:

I think I'll be satisfied with Mahdi for quite a while now...
Plus, the "selfie button" is still a favorite joke
Having swapped from an N5 originally I can safely say that no software would make me switch back to that piece of junk.
