i just noticed that the "My Apps" button in the market now looks like a phone and says "sprint"
If i click on it it doesn't take me to my apps.
Anyone else having this problem?
That's normal for this build. If you click on your Menu, you'll find My Apps there.
Thanks you were right

I'm really enjoying this ROM. The speed of the machine is phenomenal.
Love the Rom ad well but can't seem to get the market updated or to show all apps. Any thoughts?
I've tried market enabled to no avail.
Issue with ROM or with G-Tab?
I've noticed that if I let the g-tab go to sleep, I'm having to reboot it get it to wake up.
Is anyone else having this issue? I've had my tablet since x-mas, but have nto used it much. It sat in a desk drawer for about 2 months, and I'm just now getting into using it.

I have this issue with every rom ive tried on my gtab. So now I pretty much just install clem's kernel everytime. Plus it gives me CIFS so I can stream media from my windows pc .

Yeah, again it's just the build. There are a ton of hacks that will get you more of the market, but I doubt you'll ever get "everything". Considering that the GTab wasn't blessed by Google, we're lucky to have the devs here to get the market at all.

Another issue with this ROM. Some have fixed it by going to Clemsyn's kernel, others to Pershoot's and still others by using CPU Master Free. Personally, I just set my tab's Screen Timeout to Never. What can I say...I like simple.

Been getting over 2500 on quadrant consistently with a high of 2612. It's the fastest my tab has run so far.

I agree. The only problems I see with it are no news and weather widget like on tnt, and the horrible photo album (I think it's from stock?)
Fireware
This may be a stupid question, so I am sorry if it is, but Calkulins v1.1 says it is "Based on rooted 2.2 / FRF91 - TnT 3991"...
so can you run it on the 1.1-3588 firmware, or will that brick?
Again, sorry for my ignorance...
Thanks!
ROM's and Firmware are the same thing. If you're asking whether you can use ClockworkMod or standard recovery, the answer is yes. Calkulin's ROM is a hybrid using the newer 3991 build for features but the older bootloader and recovery. It shouldn't cause you any trouble loading it over 3588.
Thanks! Sorry, I confused the firmware with bootloader, thanks for straightening that out!
No problem. Just want to make sure that I understand the question correctly. Happy modding!
All Done!
Woot!! I will say, I bought this on the woot! deal... and although I consider myself very computer savvy, I have never rooted/hijacked/whatever a device before...
Happily this was super easy! I wanted use the stock ROM for a bit to get familiar with it, but I just couldn't stand how slow/unresponsive/just crappy it was!!
So I jumped the gun and started in... luckily I did a lot of reading first!!
Loaded up Clockworkmod - and made a backup first!! lol
Used clockworkmod to install Calkulins ROM---OMG is it fast!!
The found that I was having the sleep-death issue... so I loaded up Clemsyns Kernel Too!!
Not a single hiccup! Even for a noob- this is super easy! Just follow all the great advice on the XDA forums (and don't skip steps!) and you can't screw it up.
Thanks to all the great people on here, for the hard work, and patience... I love seen good communities like this!
DeadEnd
Which version of Clemsyns is recommended?
Hi,
clakulins ROM is my prefered ROM so far
But, it needs some issues to be addressed to make it my daily driver.
1- sleep-to-death
I know we can use another kernel to fix this (so I keep this fix for later if everything else can work)
2- Settings/Family accounts/add member
This FC every single time. I definitly need this functionality. My Gtab being a family device....
3- Photos is horrible as previosuly pointed out in this thread. I want a centralized place for all my photos, or at least for local storage + picasa. With this gallery, we can only access picasa public albums. What about my own account !!!
4- Photos started to display pictures roatated one quarter to the left. It doesnt let me re-rotate them back to original. It does that for evey single picture, i cant fix this. Photos is now unusable
I tried a few Photos gallery apps from the market (6-7 so far). None of them works to my liking.
I just want somethings simple that get access to all my pics.
5- Cant play videos anymore. Not even the sample 'car' and 'king kong' that came with the Gtab.
If I can fix all of the above, calkulin will be my only and permanent ROM.
(ps items 4 and 5 were previously working ok in this ROM, this started yesterday)
Also, another things that is on my whish list:
- Have bluetooth HID
I have this blutooth keyboard collecting dust on the used parts shelve that I would like to use with the Gtab
thank you calkulin for all,
So, I decided to install clemsyn kernel to fix this sleep-death problem.
No problem installing, everything went well.
But now instead of comlaining that it cant play videos, it just FC on every videos I try to play.
I feel a complete reinstall will be necessary.
Hi,
So I just recently got the Galaxy Tab 10.1 and I have to say I'm a bit disappointed. I am familiar with Android and I know what I'm doing (or so I think lol) but some things just aren't working and I don't know if it's me or software limitation. Regardless I'm hoping someone can shedd some light on these...
1. The market is lacking a LOT of applications that are available on phones. Is that right? I thought it would just scale for the most part....I can't even find the official Facebook app on the market. Am I looking in the wrong place or something? Hulu? Netflix??
1a. Some applications that I sideload (mainly widgets) like typoclock or something of that sort....install, but when I go to add the widget it is not there, as if never installed. Even when I try to reinstall it, it says that it will replace the old one so i know for a fact that it installs, but the widgets aren't available, and they arent listed in the installed apps drawer either.
2. It seems kind of sluggish...and I really haven't installed much, even from a cold boot...it's kinda laggy, not as quick as I have seen on some review videos. Quadrant scores around 1400-1500. I Rooted it, installed the latest SunBurst ROM and overclocked to 1.4Ghz and it's still laggy often despite nearing 3000 on quadrant now.
3. So I couldn't get any Netflix apk to work on it stock, so once I rooted, installed Sunburst ROM it came installed with a Netflix app, but I don't think it's official since the icon is orange and has a little android on it. Needless to say THAT app doesn't work and CAN'T be installed (I figure it's cooked onto the ROM) regardless I found a Netflix apk that install and replaces it, and works...but after one day it reverts back to the old netflix and doesn't work. So pretty much everytime I want to use Netflix I have to reinstall and overwrite with the new Netflix apk I found...it's annoying. (and the search function doesn't work on that Netflix either)
I know it's a lot to rant about and a lot of issues, and I love the tab and honeycomb, but I can't believe these issues still persist. I hope someone can help me with one/all of these and I will be forever grateful.
Thanks, hope someone can help...
1a. Try a restart after you install a widget. It seems that if the widget is not made for HC, it doesn't appear before you restart.
i tried rebooting but that didn't help any unfortunately...
There's a netflix 1.3 APK somewhere that sideloads perfectly. I haven't tried it with Touchwiz yet - I haven't even touched Touchwiz.
Try stock ROM first. Your ROM might have broken something. I know Bonsai completely broke USB storage support as an example, and Starburst claims to be the "most complete and fastest Touchwiz experience" which means it's going to have missing and broken things. Any ROM dev making claims like that is compensating for something. The "hacked-icon" Netflix app is an obvious sign they went a LITTLE too far.
Netflix sideload works perfectly on my Tab. Unrooted. TouchWiz. Stock.
i tried netflix fix on starburst rom, it did work but reverted back to fcs after a reboot. i switched to bonsai 3, netflix seems to be working fine even after a reboot.
2. It seems kind of sluggish...
The default launcher is a bit sluggish, it is a honeycomb issue. For me I have seen after a "reboot", the tab does take a couple of minutes to "settle", then it is smooth for me, but if you have lot of widgets on your homescreens it will be sluggish, my experience in any case.
thanks to all you guys for all the replies.
As far as the Netflix, I know I do have the correct apk I think the issue is that it isn't playing nice with the one that is baked into the rom. I guess I will have to install another rom.
However I haven't heard anything on the apps, is that right? There's no Facebook? Anyoneelse having issues with Widgets not appearing?
For Facebook search for an app in the market called 'Friend Me'
Looks great and works great =)
for getting rid of sluggishness try this launcher: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1188701

@js931,I'll give that launcher a try and see how it goes.
I understand and feel for you on your problems. My 3rd (and final) Galaxy Tab is on the way to me from Amazon.com. I also have an Asus Transformer on the way as well and the device that gives me the least amount of problems is the device I plan to keep. I want to like the Tab but I don't have high hopes since I'm about to be on my 3rd device. The 2nd one worked perfectly after Touchwiz for a while - even fixed issues I was having such as the typing lag - but the issues I had with the first one (screen and/or Wifi doesn't respond after bringing the device out of sleep) resurfaced a few days ago. The 2nd Tab also had something loose on the inside as it produces a loud rattling noise whenever it vibrates. While that is easily cured by turning off the vibration, I paid $600 for this device and I expect it to be near-perfect. So any little issue I have with this 3rd Tab means it's going back for a refund and I'll keep the Transformer... assuming it behaves like it should, lol.
At any rate, good luck with your issues. The Tab is a beautiful device but seems to be problematic... at least that's my experience with it.
ok guys just got hold of samsung tab 10.1 for around £286 mint so now im wondering what are the first things to do to it to improve it so to speak and dont say sell it for an ipad 2
Root, Overclock and flash a custom ROM. Enjoy.
Buy HD widgets from the android market cause they got some really sweet widgets... Go to the samsung galaxy tab 10.1 section and go under Themes and apps to find the screenshot thread to give you an idea on cool layouts for your tab.... Well that's what I did, lol

If your into games check out the post on some of the many games that have been tested on the 10.1. I would also check out the custom roms after yiu root, just be aware of your battery, especially if you overclock. There are some instructions on how to get your battey back if it happens just search the forum.
There are a number of themes out there, I would stay away from the live wallpaper if you expect everything to just snap at the homescreen. Also check out the Amazon app market, free paid app per day and every once in a while they release a good one like folder organizer.
I would say other then that enjoy, and find out how the tab helps you when your away from the computer.

What do you mean by being aware of the battery? In what sense? The battery life? I thought overclocking didn't cut the battery life if the voltage is kept the same?
For the OP, other than that was mentioned, before even settling on a ROM, I would just search and get a ton of apps and try it out. Then I reformat and install the ones I really like. Idk, for me installing all those apps makes a huge mess and slows things down so I like to just download everything i want to try and then install from a clean start. Try various browsers, etc.
ADW Launcher is good. Various remote desktop stuff. Also enable Hulu (I dont know if you need root but there's a thread here somewhere) if you want and also get Netflix.
Okay, so I have had this Galaxy Tab 10.1 since release. It is a great device, I love it. I bought the Bluetooth keyboard so it functions like a laptop. However, I haveb't really messed around with the operating system. So here comes the questions
1- Recently, I just installed the New ADW Launcher. It make my tab much better scrolling from screens. Now, 2 weeks later, I have been getting A LOT OF CRASHES from the Market. It just keeps crashing. I uninstalled the ADW launcher but it just got worse. And I really don't have too much apps. I don't understand whats causing it. Any tips?
2- When do you think we will get the ICS update? I don't want to get into rooting and flashing the Rom. I tried that before on a My Touch 4G and it wasn't pretty.
3- When I did get the Tab, it was loaded with the vanilla version. The borders where black, and most of the theme was black color. After about 2 months of using it, my father thought he can make it "better" so he updated. This new theme or update looks dull. It whitish color, and it has that task manager which I keep accidentally clicking. Is there any way to go back to stock version?
4- Every since i got the new update, the Wifi signal has been very weak. I'm in the same room as the Router, yet I get like 1 signal booster. Just imagine how it is when I am on campus. It's like having a 2g speeds.
5- Can I get an app that looks similar to Microsoft Word on PC/Laptop?
1- If you haven't flashed a ROM since you got it, do so now. You'll be much happier with galaxy task anyways, and that's the only foolproof solution.
2- Google it or just read some of the posts in this forum.
3- You can get the stock look by either 1) downgrading to a stock 3.1 ROM; or 2) get galaxy task and flash one of Boosted's themes (better than stock).
4- Beats me. Flash galaxy task. If it doesn't improve you've got a hardware problem.
5- Polaris office or quickoffice HD pro

ICS update for Samsung device in 2012 wait for ice cream + sandwich
Hey everyone, I just purchased a 16G NT for my 8 year old daughter, she's LOVES to read plus enjoys all the ANDROID stuff. My question would be this...
What would be the easiest root method?
If I root and add the full Android experience will she lose all the B&N stuff?
I want her to be able to easily browse for new books to purchase BUT also get to use the Android Market for her games and whatnot.
Thanks in advance for the help!
EDIT: Oh yea and from what I've read on most ROMs. Go Launcher seems to be the "go to launcher" for the devs, I'm not a big fan of it... Any ROM or way of using a different launcher? Remove Go Launcher from a ROM?
Try indirects root method, I can post the link when I find it, as it only requires the use of a bootable sdcard. That method gives you root access, plus two new launchers, adw and go launcher. Im not a fan of go launcher, so I chose to use adw as my default. This method is called stock+root, you get to keep all the stock bn stuff plus get all the cool Android play store too.
If you decide to run a different rom, such as cm7 or cm9 (icecream sandwich) you can have a more open experience and still keep all your apps purchased from bn. Just back everything up using titanium backup, then reinstall on after flashing your new rom. I've used this to run the apps that I purchased from bn on both cm7 and now cm9 and they run just as well as on stock.
If you do go with one of the cyanogen roms, you'll have to download the nook app from the market, but it works fine for reading your nook books, you can even shop from the app.
Good luck and don't let the amount of info scare you, it'll start to make sense after reading and rereading.
Here's the link to indirects root method.

As for launchers, I'm happy with the stock Trebuchet launcher in CM9, but I've used ADW ex in the past and liked it too, though sometimes the dev throws in some unusual stuff and makes it default. I tried Go Launcher once and didn't care for it, though I don't recall why.

Thanks you guys. Definitely helpful info. Covered my questions so far. So is CM9 working well for the NT? I might go for CM7 but I do love the Trebuchet Launcher. Again, THANKS!!
The big feature not working in cm9 is hardware acceleration. This means no Netflix or HD video or higher end games.
They're making a lot of progress though.

CM9 may not be the best for your daughter. Remember it will time out in another 20 days or so and you will have reflash the new version. Indirect's rooting gives you all B&N just like it is stock and you can also get the full tablet experience with the Google Play Store.
