Hello every one,
So after some long time saving, I finally have enough to buy an LG Optimus G from my friend. His phone (mine now) is great and work flawlessly. Today I decide that I will go for a little adventure and flash new kernel to oc my phone (currently running stock 4.1.2). When going to fastboot, I saw the following
Fastboot Mode
Product name - mako
Variant - mako 16GB
HW Version - rev_10 (16)
Bootloader Version - MAKOZ10o
Baseband Version - N/A
Carrier Info - None
Serial Number - <Something unrelevant>
Signing - production
Secure Boot - enabled
Lock State - unlocked

After some search, I knew that "mako" is meant for Nexus 4, right? So is this mean my phone is an N4 converted? It's really weird that it can still regconized the SD card.
I've do some search on google, and on xda but still not get the answer I need. If there is any duplication, please forgive me .
Thank you very much ^^
Pretty sure any phone running 4.2 and above.. Roms, bootloader, kernel.. Have the mako branding.. I have it and have never done the conversion.
Yours might be converted as well. I wouldn't know the difference.

Mako discussion
The reason behind your phone mako bootloader is that Optimus G At&t and LG nexus 4 both shared same hardware and built that means you can also convert your Optimus G At&t into full fledged Nexus 4 minus external built. I posted the link below that explains how to do conversion.
But remember this conversion will only work on Optimus G At&t version.

Thanks
Thank you for clarify that matter . I don't intend to convert to N4 anyway. To me, the micro SD worth more than running latest software .
More than that, a lot of roms have been ported to geeb, I intend to do some myself . Science if fun :v

It may just be that your bootloader is unlocked, the FreeGee method uses mako bootloader.
which rom did you install GPROJ or a GEEB?

Finally my Galaxy nexus was broken beyond repaired, so it was time for new phone.
Since I am living in Panama, the only option was to get G2 d805 from Cable and Wireless.
Here the result:
Flashed root using this link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2448887
Interesting part that is flashed ok and put su, but when I start using Root explorer and Titanium backup, it’s never pop a message, but everything was working fine.
Then installed TWRP using d802
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2469995
and then from installed recovery installed d805 variant
After all done, I have backup EFS, using this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2451390
After all done its time to flash ROM:
Installed this ROM
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2483702
Since I do not care about LG software, I have installed light version.
For 3 days worked not problem whatsoever
Then installed this ROM MOKEE
http://mokee.basketbuild.com/index.php?dir=main/NIGHTLY/d802/
this is 4.3 ROM also working no problem.
Note:
Since I am on CWPanama, I can only use 3G, so out of curiosity flashed this modem
http://http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2451426
D80310c-RGR
M8974A-AAAANAZM-1.0.190036
by QUALCOMM, Incorporated Sept 4 2013
And this modem:
D80210b-EUR-XX
M8974A-AAAANAZM-1.0.190036
by QUALCOMM, Incorporated Sept 6 2013
Since I am on 850 3G, found out that 803 modem work a little bit better, then original 805 or 802.
Unfortunately I cannot test LTE.
So to my conclusion all 802 / 803 ROM working fine on 805 variant.
Restore all my app (no system app) using latest Titanium as no problem, only BBM detect another hardware and assigned new PIN.
Next week i will test more d802 ROM running on d805 phone.
P.S.
Forgot to mention some of the ROM from d802 will generate this during attempt to install.
assert failed: getprop("ro.product.device") ==
Workaround:
You do this with 7-Zip/WinRAR
Note: DO NOT EXTRACT ROM!
In the ROM go to:
/META-INF/com/google/android/updater-script
1)Open updater-script with a script editor such as notepad/notepad++ (makes things 10x easier), or gedit if you use linux
2)Delete the first line of code (all the way up to the first semicolon you see) and delete the first semi-colon as well
Do not go past the first semiclon when deleteing and DO NOT forget to delete the first semicolon.
thanks
I buy this equipment in COLOMBIA and I think it's great that you can install ROM D802.
Aosp you can install all d802 variant, i recomend paranoid 4.0,my device is d805 too.
Sent from my LG-G2 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I don't wanna install any rom of 802 cause i won't brick my device, but with your post maybe i will do it.
Im from Panama too jaja

I Flash the rom lite that you post in your first comment, it works, perfectly, i have a question, my firmware version at config appears like the first rom, but model has changed to 802, the boot animation still like the rom oficial of my operator, but, the compilation number is the updated.
I will told you more before some tests.
Hi Guys , any custom Kernel for the D805 rooted Model? Im on OEM android Version. THanks
Guys please post here when/if the D805 variant gets the official kitkat upgrade. Thanks in advance.
Am I missing it or are there instructions to root and instructions for multi-boot but no ROM for the LG G Vista, please?
I've searched and read through a bunch of threads but nada ... so far.
Will any of the ROMs for other LG G-series phones work?
Thanks!
Wait ... I just looked in About phone and it says this is a VS880.
I just got this from Verizon.
I'm seeing the VS880 referred to as a G2 and a G3 on the Internet - what is it really, please?
It came with Android 4.4.2, kernel version 3.4.0+, and our son rooted it for me earlier today.
Just in case any of those details help ...

They are the same thing. One is the internal name while the other is normal users name of the device. As for roms make sure to do your reading up as the device is pretty locked down.
So, you are saying that there is no ROM anywhere for the LG G Vista/VS880?
Is there any reason to believe that anyone is actively developing one?
There are so many sites touting Rooting as a pathway to loading a ROM it seems odd there there is not one.

It takes more then root. You need an u locked bootloader or a way to bypass a locked bootloader like safestrap or bump. Most developers that make roms only make them for devices they own.
The bootloader bypass has been solved:
http://www.unlock-bootloader.info/mp3-0/lg-g-vista-6569.html
The LG G Vista/VX880 is "free" on Verizon with the $16/mo Edge data plan & has a nice big display.
I have my Samsung Tab4 7" tablet for sale as I don't need it now that I have the LG G Vista/VX880.
There are ROMs for the models all around the LG G Vista/VX880 - it's hard to believe that LG made that phone so radically different from the others that tweaking an existing ROM to port it would be beyond a developer.
Sure wish I had the skills ... sigh.
It's not really that. It's most developers seldom do ports. Let alone for devices that don't have. After looking at the spec is not a bad mid range device. But also remember that. Most carriers in the world are GSM carriers and very few work on cdma devices.
There are plenty of Tuts on how to port. Could be something you could look into

Modified request: Is there an app/hack that strips-out all of the Google stuff, especially their backdoors & data-leeching?
If no one is going to build a custom mod - which seems apparent - it sure would be good to have a clean machine onto which to then install carefully selected apps.
Thanks!

Simple answer is no. You would have to build a rom from source and then remove alot of the Google based code. There is a project that is working on it but you lose alot of functionality.

Cannot the functionality be restored via privacy-respecting alternative apps?
What about an app that monitors the bad behavior of the Google code than cannot be removed and blocks execution of data-leeching & activity monitoring?

Not completely no. Many have been trying over the years. Your biggest issue is the device your using. Once that is taken care of you can try and build something but like I said alot of the stuff is built directly into the os.
To be honest privacy is an illusion at best now a days. Every thing monitors what you do. From credit cards to social net networking. It is all made to get as much info as it can about a person. Even carriers do it. It has even come to light that Verizon can monitor the apps installed on a device.

I just re-flashed my VX880 last night to stock 5.1.1.
I can give some pointers that I had to work through if you have any questions, or have not gotten any help since last November.
I have spent many hours looking .

Many Many hours wasted on Google,Bing, ect. I haven't found anything. I have seen where some people refer to this as the same as a G2 And others but it's clearly not. But yeah wish someone would put something out. Agreed. I have however figured out how to get Viper4Android and Dolby Atmos to work. So if anyone is interested in knowing how that's done hit me up. All you have to have is root. NO custom recovery. Haven't seen a post on how to do that either? I still have 8 more to go before I can post lol.

Hi, first android device in a very long time. Doesnt seem to be any conversation about this newly released device. Would any of the roms/mods/etc for the LG G Pad 8.0 also work for this device? Any help would be appreciated. I made a request for a device subforum but im a little unsure how else to go about getting the ball rolling.
I just got it too. I honestly don't even care about rooting. I just want stock Android. My Nexus has me spoiled.
On your side.. already unlocked bootloader and got the 128gb microsd from SanDisk for this beauty!

There's another thread which seems to be the main thread to discuss unlocking the bootloader, adoptable storage, and hopefully eventually custom recovery and root.

A little late, but maybe, still useful.
The situation is similar with G5 (some fastboot commands are missing). However, .tot method will do the trick.
That's when we get a .kdz file. Most likely when Nougat comes out. But if we can get the .hex and .bin to revive the phone....
I have the AT&T version seems very similar except mine has 32gb of storage not 16gb. Pretty sweet so far for getting it free.
The current software, V52110b, is vulnerable to all four of the vulnerabilities recently disclosed and nicknamed "QuadRooter." If someone reverse engineers the patch, it should show how to exploit the vulnerability for root.

Hey all,
I got this unlocked GSM phone from a very large online retailer and I would like to put TWRP on it and also flash a custom ROM and possibly gApps if possible. I came across a guide telling me to download an app to determine if the phone supports project treble, which it does not as it was upgraded to Android 8.1.0.
When these devices are advertised as unlocked I assume it relates to being free to use on any carrier using that particular network, in this case GSM? Also, this does not mean the bootloader is unlocked?
I am having difficulty in finding the correct version of TWRP for this particular device as well as compatible custom ROMs and I am not even sure that this is the correct forum to be posting in for my device as I didn't see a Phoenix 4 forum. Please help.
Any chance a mod could transfer this post to the correct forum?
Hey Everyone,
I am pretty new to this and have been looking at getting a Moto G Power as my first phone to root/load a custom ROM on to. I had previously tried this with a Moto G Fast, but the phone was broken and did not allow for USB device detection, so I figured I may as well do a little upgrade and try again with the Moto G Power. Does anyone have any suggestions for custom ROMs? Or does anyone have suggestions on a different Motorola phone for a beginner (from what I understand unlocking the bootloader is the same on every Moto phone)? Also, any advice in general is greatly appreciated.
Thank you very much for your time!

This (XT2041-4, US model) is my first Motorola device, so learning the 'unlock bootloader' method was new to me, having used Samsung tablets, but it is clearly explained in thus forum and was relatively painless. Not as easy as with my Samsung devices, i.e. had to get a code from Motorola.
I went with Resurrection Remix because I've used RR for my tablet in the past, and I knew it had a lot if customization options—I was not disappointed. I'm so pleased with it that I haven't even rooted; first device out if 10 or so that I haven't rooted.

How come you opted to not root the device? Also, I've been doing some digging on these forums and I think I may go with the Lineage 17.1 unofficial ROM. However, I am open to other options.

I'm satisfied (hell, I'm actually overjoyed) with the customization provided by RR. My current use case (phone/text/browse), doesn't call for my usual over-the-top privacy efforts; i.e. XprivacyLua (which requires Ed/Xposed, MyAndroid Tools, et. al.
