[Q] Update to Android 4.2.2 with Sense 5 (Official) - HTC One X+

I was prompted with a Software Update version 2.18.707.5 (Android 4.2.2 with Sense 5),
I downloaded the update,
The Update Package was downloaded to the Download folder in Internal SD Card,
In order to take the backup of the Update Package I accidentally moved instead of copying to another location,
After that I copied the package back to its original location which was the Download folder,
I ran the Update Check again to see if it detects the restored Update Package in the Download folder,
But it didn't and instead prompted me to download the Software Update again.
I don't want to download it again as I downloaded it using mobile data, also I don't have any other internet facility available other than that.
Is there anything that I can do besides downloading the entire Update again?
Moreover what precautionary steps should I take before running the Update like reset to factory defaults, etc?
Device details
HTC One X+ (India)
Android 4.1.1 (Stock/Official)
Never Rooted

Hi Vivek,
Make sure you backup all important data. I've had a couple of friends who updated their phone and then it did not restart. It gets stuck at the HTC logo after installing the update. So most importantly backup your data.
Also on a side note, if possible, could you please upload and share the OTA zip file which was downloaded?
Thanks.

[Q] Some questions regarding official update

I recently just got a Neo V from a network provider without a plan. When I installed PC companion and plug it in, it prompts for a firmware update and I did. After that, the rubbish apps of the provider still remains.
Recently I unlocked bootloader (SETool?), fastboot into CWM, and adb pushed Superuser.apk and su (by myself), and it is rooted.
So with these two events, a question comes in my mind: How does official firmware update work? Does it 1) flash the system partition, 2) replace files only, or 3) by other methods?
I was thinking that if it was 1, those rubbish apps should have been removed and if I update again it would be unrooted. But if it was 2, wouldn't it be either more difficult to update or less useful?
It flashes the firmware to the system partition, but they check which firmware you currently have, and download the same firmware version with the same bloatware.
You can remove the bloatware with rom toolbox it's the easiest way
For me, it totally replaces system partition, but leaves untouched user partition. My phone was be rooted too, some bloatware removed and some programs moved to ROM. After update, blootware was be restored and programs, moved to ROM, deleted!
Well I understand apps under data is preserved and they can be uninstalled using default Settings UI.
So rom update is region-specific?
These apps (bloatwares):
$ ls /system/app/*_
/system/app/com.game.crazyfarm.apk_
/system/app/com.kaixin001.activity.apk_
/system/app/com.kobobooks.android.apk_
/system/app/com.mas.apk_
/system/app/com.skysoft.kkbox.android.apk_
/system/app/com.sonyericsson.androidapp.lunarcalendar.apk_
/system/app/skyphoto.hk.shotnprint.apk_
I added an underscore to prevent them from being displayed, so they actually exists in firmware update?

[Q]TMo 4.4 Update error. Download corrupted.

I was pushed the KK update for TMo HTC one. The update was dowloaded, after that it verifies the contents of the firmware. It is failing saying "Download is corropted' and asks to dowload again. I downloaded it 3 times , everytime i am getting the same error. I soft reseted the phone and checked and downloaded again. No luck.
Later i killed the 'updater' app and cleared its app cache (some 20kb of data was there) via the setting-> apps-> All- > Updater. Now the in setting when i check for the update it dosen't show me the 4.4 update available
Is there any way by which i can update it via the PC ? I could not find any tool from HTC for it, sync manager dosen't do firmware update.
P.S : Phone is on 4.3 , never rooted, no custom roms. Just network unlocked via network code from T-MObile.

You have a couple options I can think of. Back up all your data using adb. Copy your internal storage and paste it onto your computer, thereby making a back up of all your internal data. Use the tmobile RUU to take your phone back to full stock using this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1672425 . Download and update your phone. Using adb again, restore your apps and settings. Repaste from your comp, all your internal storage again.
Second option is to download from the General forum the OTA file. Paste it into the update folder on your phone. Then reboot your phone and it should see the update and allow you to update hopefully. However, you would need someone to tell you which folder to put it into. I actually copied it from my phone but I forgot which folder it came from.
Any idea you could remember it ?

TCL S720T flashed and internal storage is lost

I bought a TCL S720T from China about two weeks ago. It has 4.2.2 with 1GB RAM and 8GB ROM and is based on MT6592. When I first got the phone, the internal storage was displayed as about 5.9GB out of which most (about 5.85GB) was available. I would like to mention here that when I connected my phone to the PC thru a USB cable, the total internal storage was also shown as 5.9GB on PC.
I did the following to the phone and now I am in trouble... plz help
As I bought it from China, it did not have Google apps. I rooted the phone to get these installed. During rooting I deleted some useful original apps.
I tried to restore the phone to factory settings but the deleted apps did not return (I do not know what did I do wrong). I started to search for phone's stock ROM but could not find it. Also all information on the web is in Chinese and that too no accessible from where I live.
After a couple of days, I found a ROM on "lewaos" website. It was translated from Chinese to "S720T Le Frog bottom package. Zip" and the website claimed that it was the original ROM. I thought that it is the actual ROM by TCL so I flashed it using SP_Flash_Tool_v5.1343.01. When the system rebooted, the radio was not working as the baseband was missing, however, the total internal storage was shown as about 4.90GB. I just want to mention here that I never backed up my original ROM (bad on my part).
There was another ROM update given on the same website for installation using external SD card. So, I installed the ROM, but this time the total internal storage wasshown as 1.09GB out of which 1GB was available. I got worried and tried to find other ROMs to fix the issue. I found some ROMs from website named "needrom" and tried them too. Whenever I use flash tool to load the ROM which I got from LEWA website, the phone shows 4.9GB internal storage but the phone radio does not work. However, as soon as I install any ROM using SD card, the internal storage is shown close to 1.1GB. I have even downloaded the official ROM update from "tclmobile" website and installed it using SD card, but the internal storage is still shown as 1.1GB. Also, whenever I connect my phone to PC thru the USB cable, the total internal storage is shown as 1.1GB out of which about 1GB is free.
While installing ROM thru SD card, I have always adopted the process of wiping the factory settings and cache in the recovery mode.
I would also like to mention here that during the process of loading ROMs, I lost the radio operation due to invalid IMEI, which I later restored using AT+... commands (thanks to xda-developer forums).
Having said all that let me summarize my problems:-
I have lost the original Stock ROM of my phone and no support is available outside China.
Whenever I install ROMs through SD card, the internal storage is 1.1GB, I want my actual internal storage ie 5.9GB back.
Please help me to fix my phone
Thanks
Maybe we can help each other i have a backup may work for you...
Hey what up dude,
I have exact phone, and similar issue. no backup, but I have a horrible boot loop for one MONTH now, I am going crazy, even the guys at china-devices.com are not much help. (But may help your problem).
I can't backup but i can access stock recovery and NEED to install CWM recovery via SD as the bootloop just blocks all attempts to connect the phone to the PC. I cant see my phone data but i know i have your ROM and model, using TCL factoryware. Octo the whole nine yards.
Another long time friend has a TCL S720T and he sent me a zip of a ROM backup he made. I can pass it to you via wetransfer or email attachment.
Note that his backup is UN-rooted so it should work OK, and be 'pure' maybe some factory crapware he wiped off it. and you will likely need to fix the IMEI issue, (or maybe not, and I am a newb so can't help you there, yet).
In return, could you tell me how you fixed your issue, what exact tools you used, and so on? Sepecially if used MTK driod tools what version and SP flashtools what version any and all info will be great thanks.
There is an app you can istall that shows you which apk are system apps and not to touch, i had it installed, but i am lord of the idiots, and went ahead and deleted the chinese keyboard, hey presto, one really great phone I had almost totally customised my way, now in a month-long boot loop and may never recover.
Wow. It was amazing to hear that someone else also has this phone but was sad to know that you are also facing problems. Please contact me on [email protected]. I will first try to resolve your issues then will post those solutions on xda.
By the way, I have resolved all my issues and my phone is up and running like anything. Thanks to android lovers all over the world. I will try to give you solutions one by one.
SOLVED! & Thanks Muiz!
SOLVED with this tutuorial... all credit to the OP, Muiz, I'm only passing it forward, this is a GREAT phone, hope to see more users soon!
If we address your first problem of not being able to boot the phone at all, I will propose to go to this link (use any English translator if you do not read Chinese) ... you may use www.micrsofttranslator.com
http://bbs.lewaos.com/learn-s720t.html
You will find these steps in a tutorial.
1, download the ROM and put it into the SD card root directory (on computer operation)
Download LeWa_TCL_S720T_JB2_ROM__XXXXX.zip ( from bbs.lewaos.com) and copy ROM package in zip format to phone external SD card root directory.
2, download the Flash tool latest version and unzip it to the desktop (computer operation)
Download SP_Flash_Tool_v5.1352.01, and extract it to your computer desktop.
3, download music frog end of packet (on computer operation) lewaos.com
Download end of Le frog, S720T package. zip and extract it to your computer desktop. lewaos.com
4, download and install the Flash drive Download MT65xx flash drive _ automatically installed. rar (lewaos.com ), and extract it to your computer desktop, double-click the InstallDriver.exe folder is automatically installed
If you desire to install any un-rooted original backup you have, to your phone, do not download the file in step 1.
To make the tutorial short; first install the drivers as mentioned in step 4. Then extract the file mentioned in step 3 in a folder on your desktop. Extract and start the flash tools utility and give the path of the folder you copied on your desktop. There is going to be a sort of file with name “MT6592_Android_scatter.txt”. Use its path to flash the ROM.
You will have to wait for some time, but the Flash tools will install the LEWA ROM on your phone.
rooting
can this be rooted with stock rom on it
what does the different roms look like, photos please
ok guys i have tcl s720 without the "t" whats the difference? i went to the chinese website & had a look around with an english translator & i see downloads for s720t but none for s720 .
i recently changed my rom from what it arrived with as play store didnt work & push notifications so i flashed successfully this rom
wwwdotneedromdotcom/download/tcl-720t-cm11-v2-w200s-lstyle-port/
this is ported from THL w200s which works well just a few slight issues with storage etc but better than what i had as play store works

[Q] Deleting downloaded update

I was going through the process of rolling back my kindle to 13.3.2.8 from 4.5.3 and then manually updating to 4.5.2 and rooting. In the process I had to enable WiFi to install ES File Explorer. It immediately started to download the update to 4.5.3! In the Device settings for update, it is showing there is an update ready to install. Is there a way to delete this 4.5.3 update? I don't know what to search for to find the .bin file or whatever is there ready to install. I have renamed the OTA file in order to stop the automatic updates. Everything seams to be working fine but I think I'd feel better knowing that file was not there ready to install!
Thanks!
In need of help!
So I had followed the instructions for my KFHDX for rolling back back from 4.5.3 to 3.2.8 and manually updating to 4.5.2 and rooting and installing the gapps. All of this was successful with no problems at all! I was installing a couple of apps and was having some difficulty getting a program to link to dropbox (I don't know if this is relevant or not). I had downloaded this from the Play Store and had to install and re-install it to get things synced up. Eventually I got this all working... Then I believe what might have caused my problem is running an update on the Google Play Store. After that I am now stuck in the settings of the device and unable to get the home or back button to come up. I cannot get out of settings... I can connect to WiFi and change settings, see what applications are installed, etc., but I cannot get to any apps.
I had already changed the name of the OTA update file, but I cannot get to it to change it back to be able to run an update. In the process of this whole deal (which may be another part of the problem) is I tried to restore factory defaults...
So, can anyone help me either get this back to stock or any clue how I can get the Kindle to the home page in order to run File Explorer to rename the OTA file back in order to get it to possibly run the 4.5.2 or 3.2.8 rollback again? Anything really.. I'm in purgatory here!
Thanks

You can open apps with ADB.
https://stackoverflow.com/questions/4567904/how-to-start-an-application-using-android-adb-tools
so no-one provided an answer to the question. Where do you look with ES File Explorer (root) to delete a pending update.
Updates are stored in /cache.
is there more than one cache folder? Please be very specific as to where I need to point ES file explorer to delete this update files or files. I'm new to this, and don't want to screw my kindle up. If I would have known how to delete this months ago, I could have had a kindle with an unlocked bootloader, but I got screwed by amazon with their updates.
thanks for you help

In ES (or any file manager) open the "System" or "/" folder. Find "cache" inside of this folder. In "cache" search for the appropriate update file. "cache" usually doesn't contain vital files, so you shouldn't be able to much damage (if any at all) by tinkering with it. You can always save copies of any files you move/delete in cache to be extra safe!
What if an update already occurred? Is there anyway to uninstall it? The most recent update to kindle fire changed the look and layout of the home screen completely and I really don't like it.

Assuming you have a 4th gen 8.9" (Saturn) tablet that was recently updated from FireOS v4 to v5. The look of v5 is closer to 'native' Android but obviously not to everyone's liking. Unfortunately, there is no way back short of contacting Amazon to request a rollback. Not sure they are offering this option. Perhaps a better option is to become familiar with the new interface. FireOS v5 has a lot going for it and is generally a better option vs v4.

if im not mistaken (and someone feel free to correct me if necessary) deleting the cache partition from stock recovery (Power+Left Vol) would also delete the downloaded update

Accurate - but stock recovery does not offer a cache clear option on 3rd gen HDX. Not sure about 4th gen (Saturn).

Question Missing 5GB space after April update

Tried to install the OTA update, but failed even I restored Images in Magisk before the update (should have probably also disabled the 2 modules which are necessary).
Anyway, used Android Flash Tool and all went fine; mobile is rooted, certified.
However, before the update I had 56GB used space, now after the update it's suddenly 61 GB used space.
I suspect that failed OTA is the culprit, but I don't find any trace of that in the mobile.
Does anyone know where the update files are stored. FX doesn't find anything, or is it possible these files are on the other slot?
Cheers

Diskusage, had that program already installed on my previous OnePlus 6T, thanks for the reminder. I used SD Maid to find a possible culprit, like something that the OTA wasn't deleted after successful update.
You are right, the OTA had only 25MB, so this shouldn't happen, but as I said, the OTA failed to boot after patching the boot image with Magisk.
So what happened was, it booted 3 times only to fastboot and then switched the boot slot to boot successful again for a new attempt. So I flashed it then with Android Flash Tool which downloaded the complete 2.25GB again, flashed he patched boot image and then I noticed that the used space went up from 56GB to 61GB.
Cheers
Tom
