So I bought this HTC Amaze (unbranded) and it's pretty nice, but unfortunately I can't get the 4.0 OTA update for it through the system.
I read a couple places that there's the t-mobile one I can flash, but I'd need to install the HTC drivers and then update from there.
My big question is.......... Why is the driver saying that it's incompatible with Windows 8? I disabled the driver signatures from settings already, but still it doesn't work.
Has anyone been able to find a way around this besides dual booting or downgrading?

I downloaded the drivers v. 4.3.0.001 and Hasoon's all in one tool kit (versions 5.1 and 4.0.1, neither of which will launch)
Drivers were apparently installed properly cause in Programs and Features, they're there.
The tool kit just won't launch.
I installed android sdk before all this.
Well actually you really don't need the aio kit.. Put a lil effort it's easy

I really need help!!! I'm new and used unlockr.com to root my phone since it had step by step instructions. Well I was successful at the root part but I'm stuck at loading a custom Rom. My command prompt makes me put cd c:/AndroidSDK/AndroidSDK/tools to get anywhere, which is not the way he showed it. I downloaded the flash and recovery image in the sdk tools folder and on my SD card. My comp reads an android abd interface. I installed 2.1 & 2.2 platforms on sdk manager. In my c: I put abd device and it gives me a serial number but it will not let me do the rest of the instructions such as adb shell, etc. I really would be indebted for some help. I've never even heard of unlockr.com. I went there and it's some random search website. Did you just search for how to root the Eris from that website? I'm confused.
Anyway, I think you're making things too complicated for yourself. Go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=742228
That should give you everything you need as far as rooting and installing the Amon RA recovery image all in one go.
I certainly will. Thanks for the help. Yes, I googled how to root and that was what seemed easiest.

Search for jcase's Known ROMS, hacks, and patches. It's in the Eris dev section. I'm using Eris lightning 3.02 and it works very well for me. Win xp 32 bit works fine, did you follow the instructions exactly as written and did you remember to use it as administrator. It sounds like a bad usb port, cable, or you had an old driver installed.
I can confirm that Windows XP 32-bit works without a problem. Although, if you ask for support, you'll probably end up with a headache from the dev team.

You will need a PC. If you were rooted you could download the flashable zip and have it. But again you need a PC to root!
Sorry!
So you don't know anyone with a PC?
You don't need to be rooted to flash the zip version -- you just need CWR or TWRP.
So, have you installed a recovery?
I havn't installed recovery yet, im new to this, but do I download a recovery and then once I do this, what would I use to flash? Ty

From a pure stock phone:
Plan A: Download Kies software (google for it). Install Kies software, connect phone to pc, and let the phone upgrade to 4.1.2. Phone will be pure stock JB.
Plan B: Download JB update file from development section. Download Odin3 software - find it by googling "odin3 1.85". Then run odin software, reboot phone in download mode, connect to pc, and install JB update. Phone will be pure stock JB.
Plan C: Wait a few days and you will get a software update notification. Accept the terms, and phone will update itself to pure stock JB.
If you don't have access to a pc you will have to wait a few. The last ICS update took only four days to hit the phones after the release on the world wide interweb.
I updated but its really not different than 4.0.4 ICS . . . No new features but lots of extra bloatware from at&t.

It is highly doubtful that this update will be released as an OTA. Better start looking for a PC or go to a friends house.
Why not, Amigo? And do you think that will leave out Canadian phones too?
Almost 800MBs is quite high for an OTA update especially since this is a totally new OS with different partitioning. More likely it will be a Kies update only. Should be no difference for Canadian versions once released. Time will tell and this is only my educated guess by experience. I know I have read that it can be received OTA but nobody that I have seen has reported it yet.
Probably right. But at&t could break the update into two parts. They did that on a big windows phone update a few years ago. Just a speculation.
I know at least telus made the ics update ota..
It's doable, not even that outlandish really, cause Going from ics to jb would be pretty much the same as gingerbread to ics...
oem roms of all 3 android versions have been relatively the same size and partitioning can be done on device within the update script.
It being possible and them doing it are different arguments though lol
I recently bought the HTC Amaze 4G International/Unbranded version. I'm new to Android ( was an ios user ). Since there is no official update for the unbranded HTC Amaze I read Aj's guide on how to get it on ICS. Well, I messed up during the S OFF and was unable to do it as I have a Windows PC and juopunut bear does not work for Windows.
By this time I had bootloader unlocked and my phone was rooted. I installed the stock GB ROM in Aj's guide ( T Mobile one ). Since S OFF is for getting ROMs by any carrier, how did I get the T-Mobile stock GB ROM ? If I was able to get a T Mobile GB Rom installed shouldn't I be able to get the T Mobile ICS ROM ?
I also have another question regarding CynagenMod. If I'm on a GB ROM which latest Cm ROM will I be able to install ? Will the latest CM ROM be better than the GB ROM?
Sorry for this long post but I just had a lot of questions stuck in my mind and don't want anything to go wrong.
Thanks

S-OFF means security off so when you try to flash a kernel you dont have to do it through adb or use smartflash, and bout can use any carrier thing it belongs to the CID part which you have the asian one HTC_044 or something like that, so you cant flash any ICS RUU's or Firmwares provided by t-mobile and etc...well you can use the tmobile gb rom cuz you have the GB firmware in your phone (came along with your asian GB rom pre flashed) to have a ICS or higher OS version you must upgrade your with ICS firmware and to do that you have to turn off security and change your CID so the bootloader will let the process run without terminating it, and bout the CM versions i think CM7 means GB so yea CM 7 ..if i'm wrong feel free to correct me
Thanks mate! That helped a lot.

Another question. I see that you cannot perform S OFF on a Windows PC because it is not supported :/
Does that mean I can't do S OFF as I have a Windows PC?
2nd question is I want to install apps which are ICS+ like BBM, since I can't S OFF is there anyway to get those apps while still on Gingerbread?

Yo, if you could, try to get some time on a computer that has Ubuntu installed.
If it's not available, just download a free copy from the site, burn it to a dvd and either do a live cd boot or install it side by side with your windows (like I did It isn't hard to uninstall)
Once you do that, you can run the juopunut's controlbear from terminal.
Just follow the instructions from unlimitedio and you should be fine.
Honestly, It's not that hard to do.
Now, there's an official bbm app on google playstore , you can try it..

If you read what he said properly, he asked IF he could get apps like BBM for gingerbread, since they're made for ICS and other newer roms (JB and KK)
But no. you can't get it on GB.
For S-OFF all you really need to do is burn Ubuntu to a DVD and run it, install it (you don't have to make a big partition.)
When you're done, just install the appropriate applications and voila, you're ready to run the controlbear.
Hey guys. I am not from around here. You will normally find me hanging out in the Nexus forums. I need some help trying to correct an issue my noob buddy caused on his E970. He brought it to me today in a boot loop and apparently he rooted it an uninstalled some GAPPS and now he has this security error and BL. Now, so far I have managed to install the drivers..... that's it. I have worked on a variety of different devices but I am really having trouble with this. I think the issue is I can not find a thread that is comprehensive enough to explain what alot of the different tools are and what they do. I mean there is
1. LGNPST
2. Teenybin
3. Freegee or something like that
Then there about 14 different file types depending on the tool you are using. I have seen;
1. dll
2. bin
3. kdz
4. tot
I have to be honest with you guys this is confusing as hell. I keep coming across dead links and old downloads and stuff that may not work. I REALLY don't like using stuff not linked from XDA as that is all I've known for many years (not to say other sites aren't reputable but you never know) I can follow instructions and figure out most stuff on my own but due to the in completion of alot of this stuff and dead links I am kinda stuck I am gonna give it another go tomorrow but in the meantime if someone wants to drop me a link or word of advice as to where to at least start it would be awesome. I am pretty handy generally with this kind of thing but I guess that goes to show you sometimes you are only as good as the tools and directions you are working with. Thanks XDA Community! :good:
Okay the first three.
3.lgnpst is the program you will need to use to fix the security error which was caused by removing bloat without unlocking bootloader.
2.teenybin is used with lgnpst to unlock bootloader, update partitions to jb, and install recovery. It doesn't install firmware but could be used to restore if a rom was copied to sd to flash.
3.freegee is used to unlock bootloader and install recovery on a working phone.
Next four.
1.dll are files needed by windows.
2.bin is the extension the file needs to be for using lgnpst.
3.kdz is stock firmware for use with lgflashtool (used mainly for international phones)
4.tot is the extension the stock firmware is released with which will be renamed to bin before using lgnpst.
In the additional info section of teenbin thread there is a click to show content button that will have have links and guide for lgnpst. Use the tSilenzio version and it will register the DLL files on install.

Thank you. This is exactly what I needed. Someone just to say "these are what these things are and what they do". And also it's very odd that if you remove BW without first unlocking the bootloader you get this error..... Why can't they all just be as easy as a Nexus? Lol.

Well its especially difficult when someone just brings you a phone and you've never even seen it booted up and you don't know all the weird quirky rules it has (like if you uninstall GAPPS without unlocking the bootloader then you get a bootloop.) lol Otherwise it seems like a solid phone. Yes, once you're unlocked & rooted you will be good to go. I would recommend flashing an established rom and installing the GApps that are recommended. It would be a lot more convenient and less of a hassle.
Make sure you are using TWRP, CWM was causing bugs with flashing of some roms. Hope this helps.
