[Q] Newbie needs help. Flashing: Help? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

I know the basics of flashing and I've done it before to unbrick this very same phone (SGS2 SGH-I777) however since then the USB port broke and I cannot update to 4.1.2 without using Mobile Odin. I have purchased the Pro Version and have the flash kernel auto installed so I have the following questions.
- Do I flash the file in .zip or not?
- When I unzip there are 2 files. One of them to flash and the other SS_DL.dll. Do I flash this?
- I plan to clear dalvik cache and data to ensure success.
- I do NOT have CWM Recovery/any other recovery. My phone is completely stock other than being rooted. Can I still flash as this?
- This is a STOCK and OFFICIAL Firmware.
These questions may seem silly but I want to ensure I don't brick my device as if I lose this phone I'm stuck with a Samsung Flight in the meantime. Thanks in advance.
Edit: No data partition was added but everything else was. Is that ok?

imgur link because uploading is messed up via S2

I just put the .tar firmware file on my sdcard and then open Mobile Odin Pro and select "Open file..." and navigate to the .tar firmware file and then select it and Mobile Odin will set the partitions for u. All u have to do is tap OK.
Your image looks like Mobile Odin Pro is loaded correctly. U don't flash the.dll file.
U can now select (if u want) Enable EverRoot, Inject SuperSU, Inject Mobile Odin. Wipe data and cache and Wipe Dalvik cache, i would recommend to select also.
Then Flash firmware.
And if u wanna get that micro usb port fixed/replaced, contact mobiletechvideos.com

Yes. Also, before flashing, enter the stock 3e recovery and perform a wipe data/factory reset. And then in Mobile Odin, check both Wipe data and cache and wipe dalvik cache

[Q] ROM flashing process overly complicated. Am I doing something wrong?

Hey folks. I'm not entirely new to ROM flashing. I've been flashing numerous ROMs on my Diamond, TouchPro2, and Desire. The actual steps and tools are different but the basic principle remain the same. It's just wipe and flash.
But on the SGS2, the process is getting on my nerves. If I simply do a wipe and flash, I ALWAYS get boot loops. I always have to go through the following steps:
1. Wipe and flash stock ROM via ODIN
2. Flash CF-Root via ODIN
3. Boot the device to the setup wizard.
4. Flash "abc" ROM via CWM or ODIN
Is this actually what all you SGS2 ROM flashing veterans do? Or am I doing something wrong?
Also if I'm on a custom ROM, I can't even do a hard reset without encountering boot loops. I'd have to go through those 4 steps again. It's driving me insane...
Don't wipe through recovery. Format through settings.

This doesn't seem to work either. I was just on Lightning ROM and I did a hard reset by going to "Settings > Privacy". That resulted in boot loops...
As of this moment, I just can't seem to figure out how to flash ROMs or hard reset without being at my PC. Does everybody else always rely on their PC for their ROM flashing needs?
Hmm...something seems wrong here. Here is what I do and normally don't have any issues.
1. Reboot into recovery.
2. Wipe data/factory reset.
3. Wipe dalvik cache.
4. Format system.
5. Install the downloaded rom from sdcard OR go to download mode and flash thru odin depending on zip file or odin file.

For a clean phone i format phone through windows . In recovery format system data and sd card .
Should be no problems left on phone .
Install stock rom via Odin followed by cwm and root copy custom rom to sd card and flash .

I know how to get out of bootloops. The question is, how do I flash ROMs without the PC (ie, without having to flash back to stock rom via Odin)?

The instructions for the rom may require you to have a stock rom or not depends upon what the rom builder decides .Some require custom through Odin other via CWM.Most are CWM flashes and do not mention stock rom at all .

Before or After the rom's zip installation (flashing) do you wipe data/chace factory reset + wipe cache + advanced and wipe dalvik cache?
mostly because of corrupted download

I wanted to flash a new ROM by wiping everything. But since I dont have an ext sd card I can't use the scripts provided here because it would end up deleting the other ROM I want to flash.

If I am not wrong, you can also use mega wipe (the script your mentioned I guess) with Odin and flash your ROM that way.
Simple Mounts and Storage.
Format cache system data sdcard preload = empty phone zero left .
Requires boot to download mode and flash rom.

Ahh but correct me if I'm wrong, wouldn't just flashing with Odin remove all the files and since the ROM I have downloaded i.e Omega Rom, would be in the .zip format right? But Odin only recoginses the .tar format. How do I go about it?

I think better to use odin if you want to flash stock rom, oherwise is suggest using custom recovery and delete system / data cache what you actually need. then flash the new rom from zip.
For example: i using AOKP and always flashing from csutom recovery, but the baseband version stays the old that i used previously on stock samsung rom, even if i delete system and cache and datas...

I suggest to revert back to stock samsung from ODIN, then put a custom recovery via odin, and from your custom recovery: delete system, cache, dalvik cache, userdata. Then flash omega and gapps if you need from sdcard.. I think people mostly doing the same.
If you go back to stock samsung, all teh modem version will be stock.
sorry if I dont have right. I did never tried Omega, but with aokp the same was working good to me.

Sorry, its may bad, I jsut see now you cant use SD card. Dont worry: Once you have stock via Odin, nothing can make harm for the next Custom Rom (Omega)

Sorry I don't know about conversion between those two, but Im not sure if you really wipe "everything" you will have modem/radio drivers in omega. I think in aokp we don't have.. So I always have the last modem version that I used with stock samsung rom, no matters which another rom I using...
May I ask what kind of issues you have? Why do you want completely wipe your device?

Yes but to convert a custom zip to a flashable tar is not just convert .
Images need to be built boot.img cache.img hidden.img recovery .img system .img
100% the correct files otherwise 100% brick .

wohoaa! Okay, thanks man, i'll follow your method of flashing the stock and then flashing the custom rom. But i'll tell u this is a total PITA.

Access the internal memory via

I did a misstake and wipe the whole memory on my 7500 3G
Now I only got the recovery CWM-based v6.0.3.6 that I can acces to, are there any way to connect the tab to my computer and mount the memory from the recovery and paste in the rom zip file and then install it?
Or are there any ohter way?
Try flashing a rom via download mode/odin when flashed, u can now paste files. Then go to recovery, wipe system, cache, dalvik but do not factory reset or else data will be deleted. Flash that backup now. That the only way i know
