Having just come from the inspire 4g, I've had the luxury of having asopx, which if you search their forum you'll see its as close to Google source as possible with all the cm crap gutted, I've been hoping to see one pop up over here but didn't know if perhaps there just wasn't any demand here in Samsung land. Anyway the phone is awesome, just dislike touchwiz, and want the bare bones stock look and feel of ics, to which I can then customize from there. Seems like all the roms thus far have traces of touchwiz and or tons of cm tweaks and apex lanuchers and all that nonsense that we should have the ability to add from a bare bones build, kinda like a foundation to then just customize from there.
Please show some love if you want this as well, would gladly donate for some dev to get on it :beer:
CM9 and AOKP are the closest things you will get to a pure AOSP OS.
If you wanted guaranteed pure AOSP, you should've bought a Nexus device.
BTW, that "CM crap" as you put it, vastly improves the ability of the OS. As does (and this is my opinion only) Touchwiz4.
Why don't you build your own op if you're not happy with what's offered.

Instead of criticizing why not try helping? There actually is a pure AOSP based ROM that we recently got support for named Codename Android. I'm not sure if it 100% running on our phone yet but they are working to do so.

Codename Android on my Nexus S [link] is really nice. It was one of my favorites. If we could see that (at some point) on our phones, that would be awesome.
I built and ran AOSP ICS 4.0.3 for my Nexus S and I have to say that while I did it just to see it work, I didn't run it long as I missed the features that CM and other open-source projects such as Codename Android have to offer. But, to each their own.
Just my $.02.
AOKP is about as close as you're going to get. Try it, you wont regret it.

Sorry if this post came off as if I was some form of elitiest, I was merely suggesting that if we had a nice bare bones build people can thank tweak as they saw fit, I do not claim to be an Android developer and if I could I would love to build what I'm requesting, unfortunately I do not posses those skills ,hence attempting to lure in unsuspecting developers with donations as I do respect and understand the amount of developers that do this in their spare time while maintaining real life jobs. Secondly, my past experience with cm has been poor with the inspire, perhaps it was just not as highly regarded in the inspire space as it is elsewhere. Cm just didn't play that well with that device, perhaps I was too quick to judge having moved devices.
For those on akop, is it the stock launcher, email, and messaging apps? They don't have any screen shots? I'd like to get away from touchwiz

That's all right man.
AOKP uses the Vanilla ICS launcher, not touchwiz.

I share this opinion. I can honestly say if I had to choose between my GS II and the Galaxy Nexus with a locked boot loader, and not rootable, I would take the GS II every time. I would not choose to run Stock ICS over CM9, AOKP, or like stated above, TouchWiz (on ICS).
As others said give AOKP a try. Its definitely daily driver stable and complete. It looks like stock ICS but adds so many features. Things like the power toggles in the notification shade, adding apps to the lock screen as shortcuts, the list is huge. I can't make a firm decision between SHOstock2 and AOKP. I spend a week on one, then swap, repeat. I think people give TW a hard time. Its not sense, its not in your face and leeching into every part of the phone. Its really subtle once you put on a different launcher, even the official att builds. When I run AOKP I miss the TW music player (with controls in the lock screen and notification shade), the video player, and the camera more than anything else. When I run TW builds I miss the people/phone app and calendar. Those are the differences to me between TW and AOSP, a vast majority of the ICS experience is the same in the two.

Everyone in here is telling you to go with AOKP. Its as "bare bones" as you can get with stock ICS. There is in TouchWiz whatsoever in AOKP. All the drivers are in there to make all the functions of your phone work. Go try it. Now.
I wish we had a pure AOSP rom also. I really dislike AOKP.

Maybe some devs are just blown away by the options - or maybe they don't think this device is that popular? Blow them away by voting and showing how in demand their services are - and for what!
There is a lot of variety out there right now- and with the official ICS leak these things SHOULD be much more possible, so let me ask you what flavor of ICS do you want the most?
All examples are from vibrant because I have tested all of them on my old phone.. many of the more popular devices have them all.
Ports/official:
Slim ICS - Clean, Simple, and fast - the google way - as barebone aosp as it gets.(Can you say a 75mb download?)
Something like MIUI - A feature heavy nearly total redesign of Android - everything about this type of rom is different - but most of you probably know that. Easily themable in every aspect. Some of the features are here(don't forget it takes advantage of all the new features of ICS)
AOSP(Android open source project) - Either official CM9 or pure AOSP - the stock experience without our blessed "SenseUI" we all have come to love/hate - CM9 of course has some extra features.. and is also easily themable.
AOKP(Android open kang project) - Much like a feature rich version of CM9, while still aiming at a stock experience - if you want to know the differences click here(or check some of the features here)
SenseUI+ - Do you just want modified Senseui with some tweaks? Maybe some root, crt displays, power menu options.. just a stock+ experience? If so go to the development section, it has only been a week yet some good roms seem to be popping up all over(*cough* signature *cough*).
I like stock - HTC and Tmobile decide what I should use, and that's the way I like it! The most I could ask for, if I was feeling risky, is to get a little bit of root. Maybe.
Gingerbread - Damn this new radio! My battery sucks! Life sucks! How dare they leak a rom that isn't even finished! Those @ss&*#(s!
I'm gonna buy a new phone - You guys are noobs, I'm gonna buy a new phone!
If I missed an option, I'm sorry.. send me a PM and I'll see if I can add it to the list- but these are some of the choices out there, maybe help out devs and the potential ones alike by shouting at them all in one place!(rather than in their threads- I'm pretty sure they hate that.)

And yet there is no vote for MIUI? What gives?
I haven't seen that sense4 has enough improvements over 3.6, and then there is the fact that many of those features were integrated into ICS anyways.. is it worth the slowdown?
Now Miui on the other hand has some really original features..
I voted on MIUI after posting. Had it on my HD2 and couldn't wish for anything better!

AOKP just builds on AOSP. Once you have one you work on the other no ?

CM9. Would love to play around with Sense 4.0, though.
I want my Amaze to look and run similar to the Galaxy Nexus.

Hi all just upgraded from a galaxy nexus so I've gone fond of cm9 and stock(vanilla), android and was wondering when cm9 comes available to gs3 will it not be porting over a few features that makes gs3 stand out from all the rest like tracking eye movement or other such features
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
Don't expect it in the beginning. CM9 will be just like it is on all other devices. The eye tracking and other features will be ROM specific to the Samsung ROM. I imagine that some savvy developers will come up with an add on for these features or even the CM9 team themselves to build it into their code but that will take time.
Should read this http://opendesign.bbqdroid.org/features
Ok thanks but would you stay with stock roms till the intergration of such features and implemented

If yo want those features, yes.
It's only a matter of time when CM9 would be released. They won't be making it but porting it and resizing it to fit in with dimenssions of the phone. exceptional features like the eye detection would be there if not right on the release. Though CM aims to get rid poitless stock apps and features, the main and usefull ones are not only kept, but improvised and implented in different ways. So ye keep your eyes out for it to come soon
Im surprised. Theres only one rom out lol

I don't know what people in the world think about difference builds of android.I just want to see your answers .which one do you prefer and why?.
Many thanks.
I like CM best because of the massive amount of features and customizations it has. When you say GB i presume you mean AOSP-its not bad but i got used to the extra features of CM and whenever i go to a AOSP rom i really miss them. As for Sense-personally its ugly to me and it also makes pointless load on system resources just to display a shiny rainbow-collored button.

I like AOKP, pretty similar to look and feel of CM9+. Was not a fan of CM7, for gingerbread I prefer MIUI.
CM is a skin too. CM, AOKP, MIUI, TouchWiz, Sense, Blur, LG skin, Pantech skin, etc. They all run on top of Android, spanning several versions of Android.

as misleading as the title may seem(sorry) im here to ask from the community what my next rom port is gonna be(still working on omni, will resume after the new kernel starts working)
To find more roms, i wen to the nexus 5/moto G forums and looked at the different roms they have.
i found 4 im willing to port(but i still want suggestions)
i have found
Blue Lightning
evervolv
Nameless Rom
HellKat
i have a limited amount of space for porting(about 80gb's more) b ut i have the ability to up to that to 250gb(internal 2nd HD)
however i would love to hear more ideas from you guys
im mainly looking for
- supa cool themes(slimkat)
- something with innovation(paranoid android)
- something with WAYY too many features(PAC)
leave comments, thanks
evervolv, the only one i used on the list
Sent from my HTC Droid DNA using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Evervolv looks like it may not be maintained any more but other than that it looks interesting (probably really close to aosp which we don't have ATM), blue lightning kind of just looks like same ol same ol, hellkat is a themed cm with yolandi visser as the background... Nameless looks nice though, a simple ROM with some useful features. That being said it also sounds like it's really close to aosp which could be a difficult built. But I think my vote is gonna go for nameless
