Ubuntu Touch on Asus MemoPad HD7 173x? - Ubuntu Touch Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is it possible to install Ubuntu Touch on the Asus Memopad HD7 173x? Cause there aren't any custom roms for Android out yet.

Maybe in the future, but not yet. People work to unlock the Bootloader and to install a functional Recovery.

Here you can see how far they are. You need to go a few pages back to see more.

Already is a way to do that

[Q] Kuno tablet

I recently received a Kuno Tablet. It has the same physical characteristics as the 10.1 except for the lack of a hdmi out. Its running android 2.3.1 with a 1.2ghz processor. I have been trying to find some way to root this tablet for a few days now and have had no luck whatsoever. As far as I know no one else has even attempted to root one of these. Help of any kind would be appreciated and I will do my best to answer any questions. I am considering trying petes root tools or gingerbreak but i have my doubts that this will work. I have tried to put the device into some sort of recovery mode but have had no luck so far with any of the button combinations I tried.
Hi xsurferx,
the Kuno really looks like the Archos 101... the chinese engineers are incredible.
Under the hood there's different hardware working.
The manufacturers website mentions a [email protected]
http://mykuno.com/kuno-specs.html
Due to this fact there's nothing in common with the way Archos created the firmware on the A101 and the way you could root this device.
You could try to find out how the firmware looks like on your Kuno... but i guess this is not the right place to discuss these things.
Anyway, good luck!

Progress
Any progress on trying to root the Kuno tablet? Superoneclick says that it roots it successfully but Superuser does not get installed. Is there at least a way to flash Gapps onto it? I can't even set up a gmail account unless I use the IMAP settings
super one clicks havent worked for me yet either however, i do work for the high school that i attend on their tablets and anything else they need done, through contact with the company that created the tablets ive learned that the tablet does not have a recovery mode and that the tablets actually have to be imaged like a computer would. So once i get my hands on an image i should be able to modify it to allow root access. If that fails im going to try rooting it through adb and installing superuser that way as well
what shcool has the funds to buy tablets like that?
So you just help them>?
lots of them
Many schools are going to one to one devices to try and help students learn and while they are expensive most of it is payed for by grants and other funds. I do anything they need from pc to mac and android. The tablets will be given out to freshman this coming semester and they want to see just how locked down these are and im assuming that rooting them will be the first step to unlocking them from the cirruculumloft software they are using. They want to see how to unlock them so they can prevent it in the future. Which is where i come in.
Status...
The kuno tablet has a recovery system that can only be accessed by flashing a new firmware to it, however, it is not possible to get this firmware without getting it from the company that made the tablet. So...in order to root the tablet you have to create a custom firmware from scratch for the tablet because the firmware on the tablet was designed in such a way that the android market can not run on it. The company removed the directories and other items the market needs to run. You can not connect the tablet through adb, nor can you install from SD or even access the SD card from inside the firmware the tablets are currently running. In order to root this tablet we would need to create a custom firmware and then flash it onto the tablet. Anyone interested in trying? Also, super one clicks will brick the device, I'm surprised yours still worked after that.
new discoveries
The market will run on the tablet, i was lied to on that one. The tablet connects through adb very easily and most commands work in adb. unfortunately you can not reboot into recovery or the boot loader through adb
unrevoked won't find my tablet. what do i do now?

I work for a company that will be selling these Kuno tablets to schools. A CurriculumLoft Employee told me these tablets are not approved by Google so that makes them not able to use the android market. I have found that these can use the Amazon App market.
Figured it out!!!
After working on this for the better part of 6 months i have finally achieved root and flashed a custom rom with CWM recovery installed. I found that the Kuno tablet is essentially the same as the Arnova 10 G2 tablet with the exception of hard drive size. Here is the link to the site and instructions i used to flash the rom. If any one has any questions let me know.

I followed these instruction. I have the Kuno 3 I'm trying to image with this ROM. The screen is split and the touch is not responsive. Any ideas? Did you have this problem?

xsurferx is no longer working on this project. He doesn't have a kuno 3 and recommends you don't try the above method, as it is not for a kuno 3.

Nextbook Ares 8 - NXA116QC164

I've recently picked one of these up and I have to say it's a great tablet for the price. However, I found that there's not a lot of support for this tablet as of yet. After rooting and customizing it, I'd accidentally screwed up the install and am now trying to find a way to flash it back to stock.
Is there anyway to fix this since there doesn't seem to be any stock files or custom ROMs available? I downloaded the firmware off of the official site, but have unsuccessfully flashed it using their tool.
Any help would be appreciated.
I don't think E-Fun/Nextbook has any firmware on their site for the Ares 8. I just looked and all I see are files for the Nextbook 7 and Nextbook 8--these are different models than the Ares 8. I have to assume that you didn't make a nandroid backup immediately after you rooted it and installed TWRP? Anyone else reading this would be wise to not repeat that error.
I wish I could offer some actual help, but unfortunately I cannot. Like you, I'm really hoping that some kind hearted dev sees fit to release a ROM for this tablet. It sure has potential.
Oops, you're right. I read the wrong firmware. I guess for now I'll try and install Ubuntu, etc. until a rom comes out. =/

Help unlocking bootloader

Hi all.
Just brought my Mrs a Amazon fire hdx 7, from eBay never been used or opened box.
The rom info is saying i have 13.3.0.5
I would like some help on unlock the bootloader so I can custom rom it for her, but also wondering if there was a way of running Amazon fire OS just in case she would prefer that is.
I'm not sure how I can unlock the bootloader, read info but getting confused on where to even start.
Any help please.
Much appreciated, thank you.
Ok, if you don't know what you're doing, ask first, i.e. before you brick you HDX!
If you haven't done it yet get HDX Toolkit to root and disable OTA updates.
Afterwards you should install TWRP, and update the bootloader to 3.2.3.2 via TWRP.
Then try the one click solution to unlock the bootloader. Could require these drivers, you probably will need if the one-click solution doesn't work for you, and we've to do it the hard way (i.e. manually).
Before you flash any custom ROM be sure to create a backup of your current Fire OS, and move it to your PC!
Thanks for the advise I'll have a butchers at it after I finish work. Fingers cross I can do it.
Thanks again.
@Cl4ncy
thank you so much for your advice, i have managed to unlock root and flash cm13. Mrs will be well pleased managed to a 7inch tab way faster then current sammy tab4 7
again thanks to all the devs and support xda has to offer and make this possible for us little ppl in the community.
You're welcome. Enjoy the 'free' HDX.

Kindle fire HDX 7, ROM installation details

I bought a used Kindle FIre HDX 7, it already has HDX Nexus ROM - [email protected] but when i attempt going to recovery it shows an original kindle recovery with options to reset the device or reboot (logo is orange). I want to try another ROM as this one is so glitchy and has tons of bugs and even developer has abandoned it and suggested to upgrade to another.
Can you kindly advise me how to proceed from this one. Should i just install another ROM or unlock bootloader (which i am not aware whether it's locked or not) or how can i install a custom recovery and which one is better (is it possible to bring it back to fire os? or will that be dangerous?) but i think it is rooted since super su doesn't complain.
Please guide me.

Question Is there a TWRP recovery for Zenfone 8 Flip? Or is it possible to use TWRP recovery from Asus Zenfone 8?

I searched on the official TWRP website and on the forum and on the internet, but I couldn't find TWRP for Asus Zenfone 8 Flip.
Can I use TWRP from Asus Zenfone 8 ? Is it safe to do so? Has anyone tried installing TWRP from Asus Zenfone 8?

No, there isn't any as far as I know. I didn't tried Zenfone 8 one but it might work since most specs are the same. You can try if you know how to fix issues if they come up

I don't know what problems could arise. I hope that the smartphone will not break and turn into a "brick".

If you use fastboot and run 'Fastboot boot Twrp-filename.img' you don't have to worry about bricking your device.
This doesn't flash TWRP, it just loads it into RAM. It will then either load TWRP or fail to load TWRP.
