Sony Tablet Z - unlock from carrier? - Xperia Tablet Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
I was thinking of buying a Sony Tablet Z LTE version locked to a major European carrier. Has anyone successfully unlocked theirs from their carrier, and if so, how?
Also I spotted a couple of issues whilst playing with the demo model in the store:
- the battery seemed to be losing charge even though it was displaying the charging icon, whilst only playing video
- the home screen was a little laggy, obvious after it came out of demo mode
- I had trouble dragging icons across the screen - I am not sure if this was the surface coating, the hardware responsiveness or the software?
To be fair the tablet has probably been plugged in and turned on for 6 months continuously, but are these typical behaviours?
Any advice greatly welcomed!

Usually the storefront devices aren't updated to the latest versions. Typically they use the software version that the tablet launched with, so it will be laggy. I can say that with the latest updates most of these flaws, especially touchscreen have been fixed.

Thanks - the apparent battery drain was a little off-putting - is this now fixed?
Also does anyone have any information about carrier unlocks?

The charger provided is a bit on the slow side - normally tablets get 2.1A chargers but Sony provided 1.5A chargers which take quite long to charge - I usually leave my tablet charging overnight. It's possible that if you push the tablet, the tablet could discharge whilst being charged.
As for carrier unlocking, I do not know. I got my tablet from Sony, not from a carrier.

Thanks so much for the feedback. One more question - how is the screen colour - is it realistic or a little over saturated?

I personally really like the screen. Nothing like the screen on the Xperia Z. Good viewing angles and accurate colours. You may find colours becoming quite saturated when looking at images as Bravia Engine saturates the colours to make it look better at the expense of accuracy, but that can be turned off if you so desire.

Issues with my Z Ultra (C6806)

Hey everyone. I've had my Z Ultra for almost a week and am loving the size. The Note 2 feels super small in my hands now. However, I've been encountering some issues with mine which is the C6806 version and wanted to see if there were anybody else experiencing these issues:
1. "Smudges" on the screen which do not seem to go away - I've noticed there is a patch of "smudge" which stays there regardless of how much I attempt to rub it off with my shirt or fingers. From another post I read, it looks like it could be the anti-fingerprint coating coming off.
2. Running hot even with screen off - I've noticed that the phone will sometimes become very warm during use and even with the screen off. Granted this may be some apps I'm running but I'm not doing anything out of the ordinary compared to what I did on my Note 2. I do have Skype running, Lookout, and Microsoft Lync along with emails facebook and such. I'm not running anything intensive.
3. "Silver flake" in the screen - it almost looks like a reverse dead pixel. When I have my screen off, the spot looks silver when seen in the light.
4. Battery life is short - I know the phone is massive and it has a big screen so I wasn't expecting anything better than my Note 2. However, it has been only 6-7 hours and my battery has drained to 20% with somewhat light usage. I'm not checking my phone constantly or anything and had made a phone call which lasted about 10 minutes. I do have Stamina mode with 5 apps added to the list of not to disable (Skype, Lync, AT&T messages, and two others). I also have the SmartWatch 2 connected so not sure if this is contributing to the poor battery life.
Just wanted to see if anybody has experienced any of these issues. I will probably exchange it for another one once I get back from travels. Based on some quick searching of the forums, it doesn't seem like there are many issues but it seems majority of users have the C6802 or C6833 as the C6806 just came out on Oct. 15th (I believe) so hopefully it is this particular model.
Thanks in advance.

Only one I have experienced is battery life and it will improve on its own. Batteries have to be charged and discharged a few times before you can accurately gage the battery life. I did notice one weird pixel but I can only see it when phone is booting. During normal use its gone.

- smudges on the screen are because of the coating on the sony screen protector. The coating is wearing off.
# Options: Take it back and sony will replace it. Then the next time they wont! You will need to apply a screen protector.
- Temperature. Its aluminium and glass. Heat dispersion will be good, but it will also feel hotter than other plastic devices due to convection of these materials.
# Options: Don't have it in your pocket as that will keep the device warm. 2: Don't worry about it. Unless its over 60 degrees its fine. And if it was over 60 degrees you wouldn't be able to touch it.
- Dead pixel. - Probably is a dead pixel. Replacement
- Battery - allowing wifi and other modems to remain on during stamina mode kinda defeats the purpose. With skype on, all hardware associated with this will remain on.
7 hours is about average with heavy/moderate use. I get between 7-10 hours per day depending on use.
100% return it

IMHO I agree with above poster, get it returned. Mine doesn't run hot at all unless I'm running a big game or something, certainly not when it's off.
It sounds like there's a wake lock or something if it's hot even when it's off and this would point to the bad battery life. If you want to confirm this install betterbatterystats from the playstore and keep it logging for a 24 hour period including a couple of charge cycles.
I would suggest there's something amiss though definitely, whether it's hardware or software remains to be seen.

Thanks everyone for the input. I purchased mine from a Sony Store and it hasn't been 30 days yet (only less than a week as mentioned) so will go attempt to exchange. Hopefully they don't accuse me of causing this damage. I did the software upgrade yesterday evening to 2.257 and it seems like the phone does not get warm as often.
I hope it is just hardware issues. I really like this phone as I've been looking to combine my tablet and phone. I had a Note 2 / Note 10.1 combination but found that I very rarely used my tablet as it is something extra to lug around. The Z Ultra is a perfect (almost) combination as it provides me the portability of a phone but with the screen real estate of a tablet. It's nice to game on as well, downloaded a few games on the PlayStation Mobile app.
If this doesn't workout, I'll probably go to a Z/Z1 and Z Tablet combination.
I was in your situiation and got replaced. Now the phone seems perfect to me. No dead pixel. Good battery. I watch 2 soccer matches about 3 hours and it drained down to 55%.

Is the Z2 really THIS bad?

It's hard for me to imagine a Sony product that isn't made of the highest quality.
When browsing around the Sony forums and other places on the net, I keep seeing the same complaints. The magnetic charging ports are falling out which is allowing water to leak into the phone, ruining the phone. The phone also shuts down after downloading a lot of data over LTE or recording with the camera, due to overheating. I also see reports of people being unable to hold conversations because one party can not hear the other.
Are these people over exaggerating or are these real complaints? I was just ready to pull the trigger on one when I started seeing all of this stuff. Can anyone chime in that has had their phone over 1 month and has ZERO issues with it? Maybe there are just a select few that got a bad batch or something.
If you post can you also please post when you bought the phone or when you think it was manufactured. Maybe we can narrow this down to a time frame or specific region.
Just try to buy week 22 or higer (you have a little sticker that you pull out in sdcard compartment.
Yes, there are some things that we wouldn't expect from Sony but that was older batches.
I can record 5 min 4K video so can't see problem here.
All other manufacturers limited 4K to 5min, that's why they didn't have same problems.
Sony decided not to limit duration, so sometimes there will be overheating msg and closing camera.
I don't have any problem you said, I know for those guys and I'm sure that's all true but that's not general flaw and issue, that's perfectly normal...
If you aren't satisfied with Z2 you can always return in or change for another device...

I came from M8 and S5, after having the z2 for 2 months, there are couple things I really don't like about the z2, it is noticeably slower, say you click on the camera icon, it doesn't come on instantaneously, the in call voice quality and speaker phone are only ok, not great, volume is a bit on the low side.
The in call quality and dim volume is a deal breaker for me, I am looking to switch to the G3 or Note 4.

Well a huge problem is that I live in the USA and Sony will not cover any manufacture defect because there is zero warranty coverage in the US. I went through this with a Motorola phone I bought from Canada once.
So how long have you had your phone? Do you use the magnetic charging connector at all?

Yea I know that's why I wanted to ask around and see how many people weren't having problems. To me its got the best specs by far of any phone. I think the sound issues and maybe a bit of lag can be fixed with custom roms and what not. I just don't want to end up with the charging port popping out and then I don't realize it and go for a swim. The phone is going to cost me a lot of money and I won't have a warranty.

My advice - don't pay 600-800$ for device without warranty.
You never know..
I have device for a two months, I had Z1 (still have it) and I don't have any problems with both.
I totally agree with that post - nobody will open thread - my device is working perfectly -
All you can see here is problems and guys seeking for help but that doesn't mean it's faulty device.
As I said, I'm perfectly satisfied with Xperia Line and will buy Z3 as well...
That will be perfect device

Well that sounds absolutely great! I just ordered a white one from Amazon.com after reading all the great reviews on it. People are saying its the best phone they have ever used. I also picked up a charging dock. May need to get a second one but we will see. Does the phone come with a magnetic charging cable or a regular micro-USB cable?
I don't own a Z2, but what I can say is that that magnetic conector thing is half Sony's fault, half use of cheap third party cables's fault.
AFAIK, the connector wasn't meant to be used with cables, but only on stationary charging docks. The constant movement of the cable and device while using the device while charge might be the culprit to "invoke" both parties's fault I mentioned above.

I haven't heard anything about any Z2s shutting down from overheating, the camera closing on over temp is common though. How much time it takes before it hits the set point depends on a lot of variables, but basically the higher the ambient temp and/or the more heat generation inside phone(using data, high CPU loads, continuous live view, etc) prior/during camera use will impact it. I live in a warm region and when testing I got 6min of 4k before hitting alarm.
My phone is put on a magnetic dock every night and everytime I get in my and my port is doing fine.
My phone is from week 17 and has a the of center issues but everything works fine.
I didn't add a squaretrade warranty (not sure if could since didn't add it within 30 days of purchase), if I have a warranty issue prior to the US having parts I'll just send it to it's retail country.

I have w17 version and i haven't encountered any defects of any kind. This phone is awesome !
I have a week 20 phone without any issues and I consider it a fantastic device! come from note 1.
I've had my Z2 for a month now and couldn't be happier. No problems with over heating (Haven't done the 4K recording thing though), plug in my magnetic charge cable overnight (well, mostly every other night - what an awesome battery!).
I immediately installed Nova and have settled on Smart Launcher pro.
Also, was too impatient for OTA .402 update, so I did that myself.
When Sony support stops, I'll probably go CM but, for the moment, it's all good.

Thing is how to verify this when the box is sealed.
week 22 is may 26 to jun 1
is this date printed on the bar code on the box itself ?

I came to Z2 from Galaxy Note 3, before that I had HTC One.
Z2 is the best for me among the 3 devices, it is not ideal but ticks all my boxes.
I have a 14W17 and while it gets warm when recording 4K, I did not manage to overheat it. I made a test yesterday just to check out, Ireland, Dublin, around 20 degrees yesterday in the shadow. I was walking in the sun and recording for 5 minutes, 4k video with steady shot, so even more demanding for internals. The phone was warmish, but not as hot as I thought.
Afterwards I checked and the CPU temp was 61 degrees while battery temp was 37 degrees, so yes, it gets warm but not so hot.
What was making this phone really hot was the AR mode or the special effects app, that lets you put things like falling satelite, ghosts and other stuff postprocessing. Those two made the phone hot, but nothing else is able to make mine this hot and I do not care about those two modes anyway.
I would really recommend this phone but I would never buy it without any kind of warranty. I would never buy piece of electronics that is that expensive, without any kind of warranty.
Anyway, look at M8 forum, Samsung forums. Those people that are happy, usually don't praise the phone on forums, but those that have problems - do... I was really worried and almost certain, I would not buy Sony but I said oh well, let's try something new (never had Sony phone before, only sony-ericsson). I do not regret it for now, even just for battery life it was worth it for me, I don't care about waterproofness whatsoever.
Noise cancelling headphones is a great plus as well!
Z2 should be available later this year is USA I think, if not, maybe Z3?

Exactly this, most people come to the forum are looking for help solving a problem or require specific needs but the truth is that these people are a vast minority of all the users of the phone rather than people making threads praising and complementing the device except for example if you look in the battery thread or the camera thread.
I've got a week 15 model and I love my phone, it's the best phone I've ever had, the previous phones I had that I considered the best were the Xperia X1 and the Motorola V3X.
Anyway, don't be dissuaded from the phone because of complaints you see in forums but that warranty issue, that's a bit dodgy, I wouldn't buy something if it didn't come with a guarantee or warranty.

You should be able to inspect the device before purchasing it and if you're purchasing from an online retailer you should have 7-14 days exchange/refund as per distance selling laws (if applicable in your country) if you're not happy with it after inspection, you wouldn't buy a car without taking a look inside/giving it a test drive would you?

Way they do it in my country is they show you a demo model that is tethered with a security cable. You can play with that one as long as you want.
Then if you decide to buy they offer you a sealed box, some may open it if there is a possibility of a sale otherwise not. Prefer to buy from a shop than online.
I understand that there is date printed on the barcode of the box itself, so wondered if there was a correlation between whats printed on the microsd tray and the box itself.
This way its much easier to distinguish newer batches from old without opening the box.
Can anyone confirm ?

[Q] Any issues so far with The Sony Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact?

I just received my Z3TC . Has anyone experienced any issues with the tablet? Usually the first batch that comes out has bugs so I wanted to know if anyone has noticed anything wrong with their tablet.
UPDATE:
Just noticed this. I tried plugging in some earbuds. I own the MDR-EX300LP which came with the Sony Walkman Z i bought 2 years ago. (The battery died out after 2 years). Well it seems that the Z3TC does not recognize the earbuds.. I tried some headphones and they are not recognized either. So I plug in the MDR-EX300LP earbuds into my friend's Galaxy S3 and they are recognized immediately. I wonder what is wrong maybe it is something obvious?
Have you? The only issue I have noticed is it is not available in Canada with no ETA and price point! Sony has been ever so helpful in ignoring requests for this info, but has now stated "some time in November".
Also, be wary of unlocking your bootloader as Sony might not fully disclose what may not work - they did that for the Z3 compact and now early unlockers are faced with a lower quality camera, in addition to the known software not working.

Haha that is an issue. I was lucky in receiving the tablet so quick. Others that preordered before me still haven't received their tablet. What I was worried about was of known problems with the tablet. After 30 days I'm stuck with it so maybe I will have no problems with my Z3TC. Hope you can order one soon I've barely had time to use it but it is really good looking. Here in the U.S they only have the 32GB White Wifi only version. No LTE option or 16 GB option. Let's talk about issue(?). I've found, that when i browse/see other sources of white background on my Z3TC 32gb Wi-Fi Only, something distrubs my eyes, like some RGB-colored thing. If i try to position the tablet with white background at some angle to my eyes, i'm starting to see some rainbow-like effect on screen(one, two), its easy to see here. Then, i've powered off my Z3TC, and THIS is what i've seen in REFLECTION of my PC monitor on the Z3TCs powered-off screen. Is this same for you guys? Sry, for bad english, its 3am in Russia, and o'm not that good at it even when i'm not that tired.
That is strange

That does not look normal. I did the test with the white background and it does not look like that on mine. I might be wrong but your tablet might have a defective screen?
Same issue here with my Z3TC 16gb wifi black. It is the only problem with the tablet but i find it rather disturbing when reading on white background. Probably will exchange or return. I have tried your test with turned off screen and a reflection from the monitor, same rainbow effect. I repeated the test using my galaxy s4 mini and i saw similar but much less visible pattern of red-green/yellow stripes. I think it got something to do with anti-reflective coating or maybe some polarization of the glass?

My 5 day old Z3 tablet just died after using in the bath, it wasn't submerged at any time just little bit of water on it from my hand. Used it for about an hour after when it said shutting down due to heat. Thought it was odd as it didn't feel hot then I noticed both camera lense is steamed up
Left it for a while and tried to turn it back on but it's dead
All doors securely closed and no signs of wet around the seals when I just opened them to check, had a Z1 for a year now and even had that under water in the sea with no issues. Very unhappy.

After that dodgy screen it was totally dead, just black screen no lights no reaction to power button or reset.
Stuck it on the radiator for an hour with port covers open and eventually it started showing the charge light but when I pressed the power key it showed zero% charge. Did volume and power key reset and then it showed 63% charge and started up again. Seems fine at the minuet but already got replacement coming from O2 as its less than 14 days and still in cooling off period so will swap it anyway. Dont think ill be using it in the bath again pretty poor really as I literally only got few drops on screen so it must have got in round the screen somewhere or the speaker slot.
Can everyone do the dead pixel test and see if you get this rainbow effect when titling the screen. I did and have it. Just like someone mentioned in a few posts above
I haven't any issues jet but one concern. The phone signal ? bars some time it goes down to none almost never full but it works for Internet and calls so I don't
I've also found that 3rd party earbuds create a problem with it. I use v-moda earbuds (which have worked fine on iPads/iPhones/Galaxy phones (S2/Note2)) is giving me problems on this tablet compact. But what's even more interesting, is that it only happens when the tablet is experiencing vibration. E.g. Riding the bus. I was on the bus, and it keeps defaulting to a screen called, "Smart Connect." It always keeps jumping to the headset portion within that app with every vibration of the bus. It is very frustrating! Anyone know why or how to turn that off from happening? Give it a try, plug it in with 3rd party headphones, and start rattling the tablet compact as if your on a bus. Please let me know. Many thanks.

I don't own a tablet yet, that's why I'm asking, that's important for me.
As Z1 owner I don't want to have another device with such issues. And talking about Z1 - that's model-related problem affecting every device including Z1 and Z1C (dunno about Z2 and Z3), not a couple of faulty phones.
Before submerging your Z3 check it is air tight (and thus water tight) see here for how to test using the built in pressure sensor. Close ports properly, Press the screen gently in a couple of locations pressure should rise by 6-7 millibars. Do the same test with a port cover open, pressure will not change when you press screen. I have a Z3 phone service options are near identical. NB: no idea how to do this on non LTE version... Perhaps sideload the phone apk? http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z2/general/guide-test-waterproofing-water-t2908333
Hi, just got the 32gb version, and noticed the screen has a slightly mpre yalloish hue on the bottom (the side opposite to the sony logo. A bbit disturbing...
Been having a weird issue.. Wifi is turned off when screen is off. I made sure I clicked Wifi is always on in wifi setting. I made sure i unclicked turning wifi off in stamina mode. Seems like a weird bug.

Question Xperia 1 mark III overheating

Hi,
I noticed my xperia 1 mark III is overheating even in normal use, especially in 120Hz mode. I hope sony will fix it as this device is really scalding.
It really burns!
This is the hottest device I ever had
Software version: 61.0.A.11.23
You're burning up your battery. Time is of the essence, resolve this issue fast. Shutdown the phone if it gets too hot!!!
Auto thermal shutdown may not protect the display/mobo especially if in hot ambient temperatures, in direct sunlight, or when charging.
Keep brightness at 50% or less.
Factory reset.
If that fails...
Find the apks or/and services causing to high drain.
If that fails, return the device.
The clock is ticking, Mr Wick tic-tok...
This is a serious problem. I took some photos and videos (4k and slowmotion) while standing in the sun. Outside temperature was about 23°C (73°F). After about 5 minutes I got an overheat message.
An app that I installed earlier registered an internal temperature of 40.5°c. It felt really hot to (while in a bumper case).
After I put the phone on a granite kitchen table it cooled down in about 10 minutes.

It is serious. Turn off the phone when it feels very warm before it goes over temperature.
Using a AMOLED display in direct sunlight is never a good plan. Limit it to seconds of use.
I have had this same problem since I got it to the point where I got an alert that some apps would be shutdown.
US Version purchased from Adoroma in the states : 61.0.A.11.23
Just another aggravating issue with this phone. Some are having boot loops of a sort also! What is wrong with these companies? Can they not produce a decent product anymore? 1300.00 and it's junk???????????
I am getting overheating as well, a little warm most of the time I use the phone.
Definitely was the 120hz display turned on. Less warm when the 60.
When using the wireless charger.
Anytime I use the cameras.
I am on the latest update as well.
Hm, very intriguing issue with $1300 flagship smartphone from such a respectable brand. I had similar problem with Xperia 1 II in several occasions. And... I think I know what's the problem (not bloody hot SD888 as you might suggest!). Please have a good look at dissasembly video:
Then compare it with $390 LG V60 ThinQ disassembly video from the same guy. Spot the difference! And it is - missing cooling system on Xperia 1 II / 1 III whereas LG V60 has quite big copper vapour chamber! Maybe that's why my LG V60 never gets really hot. So the question is ... WTF are you doing SONY?!
Well, I just sent back my first Pixel - 5A - for overheating. I have been watching the 1 iii and the 5 iii as a possible purchase...but I am turned off by the dedicated assistant button that might possibly be remappable... but for sure I will NOT buy either of these mark 3 phones if they overheat! Makes me sick just how badly most new phones are functioning.
Yeah same, it seems to turn off randomly when using the cameras and when 120HZ screen is on.

I think it's the case for warranty replacement or even return if possible. This is one of the reason why I don't buy expensive brand new phones parallel imported (not officially sold in my country). Just because it means no proper warranty, no service, no nothing.
My Xperia 1 III is getting extremely hot even when taking photos (only 2-3) then get message about hot temperature and apps shutting down.
I use Streamlabs mostly (sometimes Prism) to broadcast to YouTube, foundthe phone almost useless! Overheating in seconds from start of s stream! I'm using my old Samsung Note 10 again as Sony wasn't simply useful.
Now I found a solution to it (sorry solution is too big word)
- I've turned "object tracking" off in camera
- I've turned autofocus on in camera
- I've turned 120hz off
Today we had hot day here in UK (27 Celcius ) I did my tests.
Streamlabs at 1080p , 7000kbps , 30fps run outdoor for about an hour smoothly. Connected to charger started to overheat.
Not to mention that tethering makes it hot quickly (so with Samsung).
Prism at 1080p 60fps run smoothly for couple of minutes and then crashed.
Didn't connect the charger.
I use Streamlabs to transmit 5-6 hours of stream into YouTube using mobile network in most if the times and whilst driving (so changing stations constantly)
I found that using WiFi it doesn't get as hot.
Also charging makes it very hot - SONY advertised it as able to by powered directly by a charger without charging battery, how and where do I find that option?
Is it available using car charger with quick charge 3.0?
I like the phone , like the shape , size and feel to it. Camera is OK (I own Sony a6500 )
Hate the fact of poor selfie camera in such expensive phone (I do live streams using selfie cam too)
Right I've ordered a return of my phone and have 30 days to send it back what alternatives do I have? Really like the SONY if it wasn't overheating I'd love it. Is there a solution to it? Cooler anything?
The things I like about the phone are:
*shape and overall feel in hand
*Cameras are ok don't really see if they great quality or not will still use my a6500 camera.
*Like the fact that can use sd card
*Love finger print reader in power button and seperate camera button
*like the fact that there's no rounded edges - hate them in my Samsung Note
I blame my problems with overheating by poorly made apps not the phone itself and not sure changing the phone will change it.
What are the options should I consider? Samsung S21 Ultra ? iPhone 12,13?
I'm a SONY fan and had many if their phones and that's why I'm looking for a solution otherwise would send it back straight away...
Can anyone help me with my problem?
Many thanks
Bart
Unfortunately greedy sony didn't provide any cooling solution to mark 3... Check disassembly videos, there is no any cooling solution at all, like you will find in asus - small vapor chamber etc. Literally nothing!
They knew snap 888 is overheating. They must have tested this device before releasing it, isn't it?
But no, still didn't apply any cooling solution. And that's a big shame and huge problem of this device.
Not sure if qualcomm provide any updated drivers to assess this problem or not. Or if sony will try to fix it. So far they did nothing and still it overheats. Mine too and you are right by saying that on 3G/5G it is hotter than on wifi.
I wonder how they can market battery as capable and better for 3 years with such hot device. Temperature of course has huge negative impact on battery longevity.
Sad but true
I'm quite shocked! Thanks for the info about disassembly videos...
I'm thinking if getting a cooler which you attach to the body.
What I forgot to mention that cameras itself (the lenses) don't get that hot is the area under them and closer to the centre. So must be processor and lack of cooling system.
Not sure what to do...
We have a hot weather now so I will test it intensively (if I was a Sony tester I'd never allow for the phone to be released like this).
Heating problems is why I keep saying that for any SOC/CPU/GPU manufacturer to keep upping the speeds of these things is STUPID! I can virtually guarantee that from now on every new CPU produced by all OEM's is going to overheat! Have you ever walked into a data center, with hundreds of servers running? You have to wear ear protection because the roar of all the internal cooling fans is deafening!
So then "we" attempt to put similar CPU's inside a device the size of a small remote control WITHOUT a fan and wonder why it overheats? There are only so many ways to keep the phone(s) cool. Use them while frozen solid in a block of ice, or better yet, stop running so many CPU/GPU intensive apps all at the same time. It's simple thermodynamics at work here. The more you have running at the same time, the harder the SOC needs to work, the hotter it is going to run. Another solution, that is literally unacceptable to most people, is to code in a lowering of the speed of the SOC. If this needs to be done then it becomes very clear that building a new, faster SOC every year is STUPID!
One more thing... I've heard that Xperia 1III is capable of powering the phone directly without battery charging to lower the heat...Does anyone know how do I turn this future on?

Thanks a lot , tomorrow I will be testing - doing long live stream on YouTube using Streamlabs, I always keep my phone under charger as I drive HGV sometimes for 3-4hrs non stop so battery would die.
It also going to be hot day here in UK and having the phone close to windscreen won't help - I know I shouldn't complain about overheating in such circumstances but my phone overheats even when taking photos although I have a feeling that after last system update its looking better , also as I mentioned before switching off object tracking has improved how smooth camera works using Streamlabs and Prism.
I'm considering buying a cooler for my phone too.
I will post my report tomorrow of how it went.
Many thanks

I found the future now in Game Enhancer app, you can power it directly. Not sure how it will perform yet. Tomorrow will send my report.
I often run streaming app in the background and not sure if Game Enhancer will work that way. I run nav app (Sygic Truck).
Heat problem has gone down significantly for me after the latest update yesterday. Usually the phone got really warm even with me just browsing using Chrome or going through Facebook. Now even when playing ROK or Mobile Legends it doesn't get that warm.

Question Pixel 6 Thread for supporting OP6T (and similar OP) users

Hi folks,
Reading through a lot of the threads here I see that the Pixel 6 is very popular with the OP6T phone set. As the OP6T has ended official support I expect more and more of its users will be getting Pixel 6 phones. I just got mine yesterday and am getting used to it. I thought it might be nice to have a thread where folks used to the OP6T and similar OP models could discuss transition issues while we get used to our new Pixels.
I'll start with one big question:
I'm dying without the physical ringer switch. I knew I was giving it up, but I'm struggling. On the OP6T, I would use it maybe 20 times a day. Incoming Teams call from the boss? Set phone to silent. Ad pops up without volume control while playing a game? Slam the phone to silent. And so on.
Whjat's a quick way to switch between normal / vibrate only / silent mode on the P6?
Would love to hear other experiences, learnings, and questions!
One thing that i did not know initially is that volume keys and the ability from there to switch sound modes works also on lock screen. Just press volume up or volume down and use the button above the volume bar to switch sound modes.
Yeah I found that. It's slick but still takes more than just shoving a slider.
I wonder if there's a setting to like double tap a volume key to toggle modes?
Another thing I'm getting used to is the thickness of the device. I saw it in the specs before I ordered, but wow it feels like a brick. On the other hand, it's got a beefy battery and if a thicker phone is the price for longevity, I will get used to it gladly.
Overall I'm trying hard to run it stock Google to get the experience. However, I may be going back to Nova Launcher for my home screen; I'm not loving the stock google launcher due to lack of customization so far. Time will tell.
Alert slider was iconic feature for oneplus but now even they are dropping it in the newer devices that are not flagships. I am a little bit cursed regarding experiments with new brands. I bought LG V10 and liked it but it had the dreaded bootloop problem and after that LG went down. I bought HTC u ultra and liked it but after that htc went down. I bought oneplus 7 and really liked it but after that the merger with oppo started and everything that i liked in oneplus started to gradually vanish. Now i like the pixel 6 despite the initial problems and hope that situation will only improve in future.
What drives me nuts is manufacturers remove useful features that I love.
For example the multicolor notification LED. Used almost zero power and with proper app could blink color/rate variably depending what was going on. Silent, discrete in meetings, but told me what I needed to know. But now extinct.
Also I don't get the design choice of slick/fragile phone backsides. I used to by more rugged backed phones to go without a case. No more, phones are now more expensive due to glass back plus I need to buy a case adding cost and bulk. Sigh.

True, there's a way around this though - aodNotify makes the hole punch a bit less useless, flashing basically a notification LED around it. I've been loving it since I've started using it in Nov and can highly recommend.

Thanks for this!
I've bought the pro version, and did some basic setup. One feature it seems to lack that I'd really like, which I will communicate with the developer on, is to make the color settable not just per app, but per email account sending the notification. Maybe this already exists in the "contact" section. I'll have to play with it some more this weekend. I have three email accounts on the phone, and it would be nice to get differential notifications for "family email" versus "personal email" versus "commercial email" accounts. Also have to see if there's a way to have the time/date stuff off... I'd prefer a fully black screen except for the flashing notifications, when present.
But all this is just me picking nits. This looks like a great piece of software that fills a gap, and I appreciate the introduction to it!!

One more not on this: I learned the hard way that the silent mode applies onlybtonringer and notifications. It doesn't silence the phone like the OP phone sliders do. Media sounds remain enabled, so this mode doesn't silence ads which is the main thing I wanted to use it for. I'm experimenting to see if these modes remember the media volume last selected within the mode. Sometimes it seems yes, but sometimes they seem to reset.
Hi folks,
After about two weeks with this phone I'm pretty settled in and liking it.
My biggest single issue was the lack of physical audio switch which I'm delighted to report is entirely deprecated by using the wonderful Button Mapper app by @flar2 . That app let me map a single down-volume tap to silencing media sounds, which was exactly what I needed.
I've gotten used to the increased thickness/weight of the phone, which of course there is no remedy for other than time and familiarity.
I'm pleased by its snappy responsiveness, and very happy with the built-in googleness of it, including the benefits of its dialer and call screening and visual voicemail which is better than the ATT equivalent. There are also a lot of assistant features I plan to dig into, gradually, that are better on pixels than other phones. It's nice to know I'm "on board."
The phone works well for wifi calling with ATT after I got the IMEI added to my AT&T account (I was never able to get that to work on my 6T) and at least in my area the 5G coverage is good. I don't get super fast data speeds on 5G but the typical 30 MB/s is more than enough for my uses when I'm out and about.
I've added aodNotify to make up for the missing multicolor LED in recent phones (6T didn't have one either) and while I'd like a few more customizations, it's pretty awesome.
For the first time in several phones I stuck with Messages instead of using my beloved Textra. I'm still getting used to things (including notably less customizable font sizes) but the benefits of Messages going forward probably outweigh the losses.
The one thing I had to ditch pretty quickly was the Google Launcher home screen. I went back to Nova Launcher within days; I just couldn't handle the "basic-ness" of the built in Launcher. That's less about the phone than anything else but I mention it all the same.
One ongoing thing: the phone is usually warm. My 6T only heated noticeably when I was doing something really intensive with it. The P6 warms up just sitting there with the screen on. Still, I get good battery life so I'm not worrying about it.
Overall I'm pleased with my purchase and recommend the phone to folks coming from the OnePlus line. Not sure if I prefer it to the other phone I considered (8T, for $200 less), but I'm happy enough I'm looking forward instead of backward.
Well done Google. Now, straighten out the crap with your updates!!
Any other OPx users notice their OP-supplied charging blocks don't charge the Pixel? I have two of these. One from my OP3T and one from my OP6T. I believe them to be identical part numbers; I don't know which came with which phone as I've used them interchangeably since I got the 6T. Both charge either phone rapidly.
But, one of them slowly charges the Pixel 6, while the other just says "connected, not charging" when I plug it in. That's weird... the one that won't charge the Pixel will charge any other device, and so far all other chargers I've tried will charge the Pixel (albeit slowly).
I bought an Anker charger and an extra USBC to USBC cable, so I'm all good, I just thought this was a strange quirk and wondered if anyone else saw this.
Current OP6 user.
How "root friendly" is the Pixel6 compared to the OP6? I don't usually install custom ROMs unless for emergency purposes. Simple root + module such as Magisk, AdAway, Maxlock, XprivacyLua, YT Vanced, InstaPrefs etc. Basically modules that improves app experiences, removes ads and some battery saver while we're at it.
Software update isn't important to me as they can be easily flashed. I usually have automatic updates TURNED OFF, as having it turned on will be a mess for a rooted device.
Appreciate your feedback, if any. Thanks!
Not the most ideal fix but you could set up a Nova action --> sound setting.

Ah we shall see in the coming months, since the Pixel6 is still relatively new in the market and still unavailable to purchase in my country yet.

Pixel can usually be recovered with fastboot images if you're able to get into the bootloader as long as you have the OEM unlock switch on. You can do it easily with any Chromium based browsers.
As for the root friendly ness, it's about the same if you're not going to overclock or disable thermal throttling.

As long as the bootloader is unlocked, you can flash the factory images via fastboot. Of course, the platform tools need to be up to date and you need to be able to access the bootloader.
I'll hold my purchase of the Pixel 6 for now, until a stable recovery is released. God knows when it will be out, haha!
Thanks for the sharing yo!
