Sprint 1X 3G icon fix - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note 3

Can anyone point me into the right direction to modify the systemui to show 1x and 3G properly? I love the new GN3 icons but hate the fact Sprint fakes the fulltime 3G even in 1X areas.

There used to be some how to guides like that in the Note II forum. The idea should still be the same.

[Q] 3G data icon

I am new to Motorola and the Photon. I have a question about the data icon. Since I have had the phone (about 2 days) I have traveled about 400 miles across remote areas and so forth and I have never seen a 1x data icon. In fact, I was roaming with a 3G icon.
So my question is, has anyone ever seen a 1x data icon? I was so impressed with the signal strength that I thought I could be getting 3G in areas where I normally did not, but a speed test tells a different story.

don't think any sprint phone by default will show it in 1x mode, maybe when more roms/mods are released, but never by default
Interesting. My Samsung Moment did out of the box. I had that for about 2 years before I finally made the decision to get the photon, so my experience is little. Doesn't the EVO?
Sprint just recently made a decision to cut out all 1x symbols from showing on new phones I work for sprint it came in a memo like a month ago

losing data when data switches between LTE and 3G

I've been having this problem probably once a day since I've gotten the phone where my phone will lose data signal while switching between 3G and LTE and the only way to get data back is to restart the phone. Turning airplane mode on and off won't work either.
Ive had that issue too..but most of the time it switches back n forth no problem

I haven't noticed any data problems until today. I am unable to connect to 3G. We do not have 4G in my area.
These problems are probably bugs in the LTE System.

why should bugs in the LTE system affect 3G?
the 3G our phones use is not exactly the same as standard 3G unless you force your phone into EVDO 3G via the ##778 menu. which if you are not in a 4g zone I would recommend simply for stability. The 3G our phones use is basically a layer between 3G and LTE as I've had it explained to me.. I really don't know much else about it though, sorry. I'm sure someone else here can shine more light on it however.

oh that's really interesting. thanks for that little bit of info. had no idea.
Same problem with it dropping data signal and never coming back without restart. At least now i know its not a hardware issue
I've had the same problem lately

damn.. i was actually hoping this was a small problem with a simple solution... everything else about the phone is perfect except for this one problem.
Having the same issue here....when switching to cdma I get no 3G just 1X.....hope they find a fix soon

same here guys. call Verizon and let them know. I think it helps if a bunch of us make them aware.
I've had a ton of weird data issues with the Rezound. I get 1x where i should get 3g, i get 3g where i should get 4g and i get nothing way too often.
I've only had this happen once with the rezound. Shows nothing but bars, no data can be used. Sometimes switching to 3g or 4g in lte on/off helps.
Had this problem intermittently on both my wife's and my bolts, completely agree its just a lte being a new tech issue.
I've listened to a podcast on how the handoff works and its definitely not fool proof.

Im in Lawton Oklahoma and I'm not gonna c 4G till 2013 and I'll be pcs before that.
Now I access the ##778 menu in edit mode and what do I do to force EVDO 3G?

phone will reboot and you should get 3G back
This changes your network from eHRPD back to EVDO Rev.A. For LTE phone owners, eHRPD causes 3G to die (most of the time anyway) when the LTE network has problems. Get back on normal EVDO and you're good to go.
^ from Jntdroid on another forum (not sure if we're allowed to post to other forums here) I'm not positive on where he got it from, but this is a capability of all HTC 4G phones
I've had occasional issues with being down to 1X, but even that was only during nationwide 4G network issues, definitely get in touch with VZW about that... not that they have enough sense to fix anything *sigh*
Data Connection slow to Acquire (3G/LTE)
If I'm on the subway, or somewhere with no service, then come above ground, I get voice (full bars) but no data -- it could take upwards of 3 minutes+ for data to come back up. Any thoughts?
I've been losing my 3G service throughout my city, being restricted to 1x so many times lately where I SHOULD be getting 3G!(4G isnt available in my area yet). It's really annoying...perhaps nexus isnt theeee only one...
^should I try calling and programing what the user implied? Again, I am not in a 4G area...

Same issue as you. I live in a 3G area only and my 3G drops out a lot. Even a reboot doesn't get it back. Not sure what to do :/

3g/ h/ g/ 4g ??

hi guys, the idea behind me getting a 4G was that id hope id get a decent data signal out in the countryside where i work..
i had a samsung galaxy ace for a few weeks which only just uploaded facebook pice, either with a H sign and two arrows or a G sign,
when i used to work in town and i had a HTC the internet was fine im presuming i was running on 3G.
What are all these ? the H ? the G ?
and is the 4G signal even available in the uk yet ? or is it just my area is a bit slow on catching up with 4G ?
ive tried all these 3g/network boosters but to no avail.
it would be nice to be able to listen to on line radio and upload pics at a fairly reasonable rate.
ideally for work tomorrow,
has anyone got a program that will work and boost my signal at all ?
thanks
If you don't have good signal, you don't have good signal. The only way to improve it is, get closer to the tower.
Buying a 4g phone has zero impact on 3g reception.
sudo passwd root
I know you can change the 4G icon to H, so I think H means 4G and G means 3g. Just a guess though.

Something is seriously not right with the One LTE antenna

This is a typical speedtest where i work with S4 vs my One.
As we know from my other thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2451516 the S4 is a complete and total joke when it comes to voice recognition so I swapped it out for the One. The only problem I have with the One as the voice recognition is second to none, is the data speed. Some days it decides it's not going to pick up an LTE signal under any circumstances and some days it does but it seems that the download speed appears to bleed off to almost nothing as seen in this pic. No programs are running at the time I did the speedtest here and both phones ran their speed test separately.
Something is not right.
I'm not having that trouble with my One. I'd take it back and get another. My LTE is usually around 20Mbps and I've had it as high as 37Mbps.
Something is wrong with your phone. While I wish T-mobile had better coverage, when I am in a good area I am getting fantastic speeds on my One.

While I don't have two tmo LTE phones, I did switch from straight talk and my tmo LTE is horribly inconsistent while the ATT LTE signal on the same phone is solid wherever I had reception. It also has a weird issue with speed test in particular where it keeps routing me to a server in Denver or Albuquerque even though the location services work fine.
Tmo hspa isn't great in my area but still more consistent by far. I may just switch back to straight talk even with the cap as I have zero issues on ATTs LTE network and don't stream anything other than music. The phone is by far my favorite, even compared to my friend's N4 (the camera and screen spoil you, and I can't see feeling the need to upgrade for a few years now that I have a camera I'm satisfied with)
edit: t-mo LTE is -103 inside or out, ATT LTE is -88 with excellent and consistent speed (ping is a bit higher at 240 as prepaid often is, but that's fine for everything I do). And it's certainly not an issue of grip, as I actually get better ATT LTE while holding it than setting the phone down

[Q] HSPA/4g on i717 T-Mobile

Okay, I've poured over the posts in this forum backwards and forwards and I'm either missing something or I'm trying to do the impossible.
I have an i717 AT&T Galaxy Note 1, unlocked and am using it on T-Mobile with Cyanogenmod 10.1.3.
I work at an area, geographically, that has 4g coverage. This has been confirmed by my co-workers that have notes 2 and 3 as well and sit right next to me with 4g active, as well as on the T-Mobile coverage map.
I have tried everything in this http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1547114 thread already.
All of the modems in that thread give me "unknown" for the band/modem or outright crash my phone when I pull up the dialer.
I installed a UCMB4 Modem that someone had good luck with but I still have no HSPA entries.
I've tried *#*#4636#*#* and tried selecting "hspa anything" but there isn't any hspa entries listed.
I *know* my knowledge on this is limited so I'm playing catch up on the concepts especially regarding the different bands and implementations across carriers.
So the question is: If I want 4g speeds or anything above "edge" speeds, what should I be shooting for in an area that supports 4g and LTE, on a Samsung i717? hspa? wcdma?
*One* time only during all of my tinkerings months ago, I saw a DC above the strength meter but never since.
Any suggestions or help would be appreciated.
