My DX is not locating (not by GPS) me how it should. It takes ages!
What can i do to fix it??
Which ROM / kernel are you using? Apart from that, you can always try GPS Toolkit from Google Play to download AGPS Data; or you can try to do a factory reset (wiping cache / dalvik cache / data partitions) after backing up your data.
It resolved itself after reboot ... i hate that kind of solutions! But its ok now.
Just to be clear i was talking about WiFi/Mobile network locating.
Nevertheless it happens from time to time that locating take much more time then it should.
My current ROM is mySENSEdx+ RC3.0
kernel is 3.4.0-ga4ef99d-dirty ("[email protected]#1..."!?!?)
I guess it is a ROM issue because also i have this ROM and it frequently lose location. I don't know why because on stock ROM it never happened so it is not a hardware failure.
But I got use to this because the ROM is great...

first off, apologies is this has already been discussed..
i have a sgs2 and have rooted it and installed miui, and then recently installed cyanogen 7.
im having signal problems and my data signal is also poor.
i also find my memory is cluttered with old app data.
i would like to completely remove all data off my phone and install a clean and reliable rom (any recommendations of the best one?). i would also like to update my kernel and firmware to the most reliable one.
can you please advise me on how to do so.

Always use data wipe/factory reset option in CWR.

check the sgs2 forums as there are some guides available and even some odin one-click restores which accomplish the task.
back up any data to pc/external sd and when you do a factory data reset in the rom chose format usb storage as that will clean off any other remnants you may be seeing.

Yes. It is highly recommended, especially if coming from stock ROM.
Else there will be compability problems with certain files that can lead to force closes and/or freezing/restarting.
But u can still flash ROMs without Wiping user data right

Clearing user data / factory reset is always a good idea when changing ROMs. Minimizes issues especially if the ROM you're flashing has an app you already have. Not clearing has been known to cause FCs in such cases and un+reinstalling doesn't help at times.
If you're concerned about apps already installed and don't wanna lose the settings or just simply don't want to reinstall them, backup using TB. Restore after flashing is done.

Based on my experience, yes, there are too many issues that can occur trying to preserve the data. Maybe an expert could do it, but even then, probably not worth the effort.

It is not always necessary but it is recommended
For example I was coming from ex miui 4 and wanted real ics , so I just installed the zip over miui and it was running fine. Just wifi error but you can fix that easily
I am facing a strange issue in my GT-I9300 Baseband:I9300XXELLA, Build:JZO54K.I9300XXELLB after a software upgrade from 4.1.1 to 4.1.2. with the exception of some apps like watsapp and default system apps, messaging dialer etc etc. system vibration intensity settings do not work, they are max always.. like when ever i get msg or call on viber it vibrates with full intensity,irrespective of my phones vibration intensity settings. similarly if i use dialerone dialpad haptic feedback is operational, although its disabled. skype vibrates with full intensity also.. so on.. so here is wat i have done so far.. i was able to resolve the issue by downgrading to 4.1.1. but i think 4.1.2 feel lighter and faster.. i have tried re upgrading to 4.1.2 and reinstalling fresh apps.. (not restoring).. wiped cache and user data via power+homekey+ volume up button menu... nothing seem to work on 4.1.2.. so i was hoping if any of you folks could help me out.. it will be better if someone who knows where these system vibration controls reside and how can i reset them, to clean things which could be messing with vibration controls, answers me..
These are app problems not the phones problem.Can be caused by the restoreing of the data that the app has.Try booting to recovery and wipeing cache partition and dalvik cache and then go to advanced and fix permissions and reboot.Should clear up all bad data.

thanks cooza for the suggestion. i am having this issue with almost every app other than system apps.. it seems os is unable to override app settings...booting to recovery, wiping cache partion and dalvik cache etc ..can they be done without rooting the phone ?

Sure mate. If you boot to recovery you can wipe cache.To wipe data for each app one by one if you want you can do it in settings/application manager then select the app and wipe data if you know what app is causing the problem. For dalvik you will need root unless you can find a file manager from the play store that will do it.This can be a common problem when restoring data.That's why people root their phones to get this type of wipe access.It also allows a proper restore without data problems.

but dude i have wiped everything other than dalvik cache.. only downgrading to 4.1.1 solves the problem.. but i want 4.1.2 cuz its faster...btw what do u mean by advanced options and fixing permissions? how can i do that... just to clarify again.. i have tried even manual fresh install of the apps after the upgrade and wiping cache's n user data....
Those extra settings you get when you root and install a custom recovery.They aren't available in the stock recovery.upgrading to 4.1.2 and restoring apps with data from 4.1.1 is obviously the problem seeing as they are different firmwares.it can be done though with root and a custom recovery.

i did not restore apps from backup of 4.1.1. i installed them fresh after upgrading to 4.1.2 and wiping chache and user data from the boot recovery option...so it seems there isnt much left other than trying the rooting path?

i rooted the phone. wiped cache, user data, dalvik and fixed permissions...all useless.. system vibration intensity level fail to override third party software's..haptic feedback and alert vibrations alert with full intensity... any other suggestion ?
It would have most probably not have happened if your phone was rooted in the first place.Then you make a backup of your apps + data with Titanium Backup.Its the best there is for this type of thing.Then when you flash the 4.1.2 (if its via kies you need to root again cos you loose it and if its via Odin its full wipe so you root and download Titanium first) you go to TB select the restore option and select "let me choose" and the phone will do it properly for you.
When dowmloading TB on a new firmware after a full wipe you will get a prompt asking to keep or accept the new android ID.Always restore the old one so you dont have problems with old backups and data.
Fixing these things before root is more difficult cos you already have the data backup.You may need to full wipe back to stock then root and try again.It depends on you if you want to try it installing some apps without data.Some like viber and FB dont need data for example as you can just sign back in.If you dont want to loose games data the just instll them.Viber,line,FB,WhatsApp can just be re-signed in and set up.

i even tried that.no restoration from backup options.. (zero third party apps after upgrading to 4.1.2)..the moment i installed any third party app the issue came back again..n its for all the apps.. except the "watsapp".. i dnt knw y not watsapp ! i dont think its the problem with apps.. the interesting thing is.. if i create a keis backup from 4.1.2 along with the 3rd party apps,, after downgrading to 4.1.1 and restoring the backup from 4.1.2 does not create any problem..all settings seem to work fine as far as i am on 4.1.1..i think its the problem with OS which is unable to override its current notification/alert settings for 3rd party apps, instead it keeps them to max vibrations!..
If you upgraded via kies it may be that something didnt go completely right.You could always flash the same firmware or a 4.1.2 firmware for another region via Odin to see what happens.Also there are custom ROMs which take out all of these bugs that stock firmwares can sometimes have.
I can confirm an oddness with haptic feedback in 4.1.2 when compared to 4.1.1.
Seems like it's somewhat more intense in general.
In apps, such as emulators, that have the option to have vibration when pressing a button the intensity is too high, clearly not the one I have in my settings, which was at lowest.
Even if you disable it it'll be on when dragging icons etc.
I upgraded from 4.1.1 to 4.1.2 via Kies and did full reset to no avail.
My region update is Portugal and build JZO54K.I9300XXELLA. Other regions such as Nordic countries XXELL4 makes no difference, so I guess we'll have to wait for a fix.

Lately I notice that some apps clear their default state after I restart.
Specifically: my keyboard app, my launcher and few more. I have set them as default again every time I restart.
This started only recently. I am using WanamLite 6.5.
Something in your phone has become corrupt, if clearing cache, dalvic then fixing permissions doesn't help then full wipe and reflash.
Thanks for the suggestion, but no go, sadly. This happened AFTER a full wipe and a flash - and clearing the caches and permissions didn't help.
This wasn't happening before, by the way.
Try going back to stock and see if it still happens.
Just wanted to let you know, for future reference, that the problem is solved in the latest WanamLite 6.6 XXEMD2.
I have been running Cyanogenmod for a while and have really enjoyed running an AOSP custom rom. However I notice that when I run CM11 (any version) Google Maps will either not work properly or wont work at all. Sometimes my GPS as a whole wont work and I can't use any navigation application. I also notice that the first few days the rom runs fairly well but after two days it starts acting erratic. At first there will be little problems like not showing map searches properly but as time goes on it gets worse and worse to the point that I can't get my ringer back on again (even though it is set to on in the menu) without restarting the phone. In addition the phone as a whole is very sluggish and slow now. Sometimes I will run an application and the phone will not run it properly and if I hit the home button it will lock up for a few seconds and sometimes I will have to restart it in order to get it working properly again.
None of these problems exist with CM10.2. The only problem I will have is when the top drag down notification menu in pulled down sometimes it glitches up and stops at about half way down the screen and I need to tap the screen so that it resets and I can do it over again. Other than that everything works fine with 4.3 but when I install 4.4 (CM11) it's not stable at all on my phone.
I install it using clockwork mod recovery.
I wipe the /system, /data and /data/media (/sdcard), /data, /cache, wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache partition, wipe dalvik cache.
Then I install the cm-11-20140504-SNAPSHOT-M6-d2lte.zip
Then I install the gapps- kk-20140105-signed.zip
Then I do another wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache partition, wipe dalvik cache.
The only way I can do a cleaner wipe (that I know of) is to wipe my sdcard that I installed as extra memory, but I don't have another one and since most of my issues don't happen when I use 10.2.1 I havent gone forward with that option.
The rom I have the best luck with and is the one that I am referencing in this post as the 10.2.1 rom is cm-10.2.1-d2att.zip.
Anyone have any ideas? Am I missing a step? I otherwise really like CM11 and would like to use it all the time, but I work in the IT field and my phone is my assistant and I need something more reliable.
