I've rooted my GT 10.1 but I have two questions that I can't find the answer.
1. Has anyone discovered how to unroot back to stock?
2. If rooted, will I be able to get the OTA of touchwiz by checking for updates under settings?
PS I flashed the TouchWiz UX found in this forum. Got to say it is really nice and I can't wait to get the version from Sammy. I then restored a backup using Rom Manager and restored fine except when checking for software updates. It used to say no update available, but today it says failed to connect to servers. Anyone else getting this error?
I guess that is actually 3 questions.
Thanks
1. Unrooting is pretty simple. Just flash the 3.1 OTA in the dev forum, after doing a full wipe. If you feel the need to go back to full stock, you'll also want to nvflash back to the original retail recovery, which you undoubtedly saved when you first rooted.
2. No one knows yet, but rest assured, within a day (less probably) of the update being released, it'll be available here as a rooted flashable ROM. If you learn one thing from your time on XDA, it should be "never accept an OTA update." Let the devs pull it apart and repackage it in a nice root-safe download.
Undoubtedly! (I wish) I wasn't planning to root but while playing with Odin, I thought I was locked at the downloading screen while testing odin. (Didn't hold down the power button long enough to shut off tab) I thought my only solution was to continue and root. No problems rooting, it was easy. I just wanted to make sure I get the TouchWiz update. Now I learned my lesson I will never do an OTA update.
Glad you told me that, otherwise I probably would have screwed up my GT. I don't know how I missed the post about backing up the stock image first. I try to read a lot of posts (heck I even use the search box) before trying something new. Anyway, I'm sure it is posted in the forums somewhere if I need to find it.
Thanks!

It's not so much that you'll screw up your device by accepting an OTA, but rather that you might lose root and/or your custom recovery (perhaps permanently). Nevertheless, there are some cases of OTAs screwing up devices when accepted over non-stock installs, so IMHO its always best to wait for a flashable ROM.

Yes, I believe the stock retail recovery is posted in the CWM recovery download package here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1130574. You'll note that Step 3 is where you were advised to backup your original stock recovery, although the step is (correctly) noted as optional. No big deal, in any event. Glad I could help.
I am looking for info for the Dev section library. Though there are a few comments made regarding flashing back to stock, none seem to offer a (up to date) return to store, stock phone method.
That having been said could sombody offer up a tutorial so I can post it.
Thank you.
Entropy's Thread entitled "[Heimdall][Odin][Stock][Root]UCKH7 Return/Unbrick to Stock (or Root)" is the closest you are going to find to a complete restore to stock.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1286432
I believe this will work for a good majority of folks needing to get back to stock (provided they haven't completely hosed or done something crazy).
Basic steps:
1. Flash the package in the second link of the OP - *NEW* - Kernel + non-rooted system package using either Odin or Heimdall (user's choice - and extract or prepare files accordingly)
2. If the user has accidentally flashed a i9100 International ROM, then they may need to also reflash the stock ATT modem (also in the thread)
3. For good measure, after those items are flashed, probably best to do a factory reset (either via # code or in the UI)
As I mentioned, that should work for 95% of folks that need to go back to stock.
The other 5% are people that flashed a ROM that had new or alternate bootloaders. In this case, I am not aware of any Odin one-click package or bootloader pack available (yet) for the stock ROM, so this may been an issue. But someone may have some more updated information on that.
First settings> privacy> factory data reset.
Then boot into download mode and flash stock plus non root package from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1286432
With heimdall or Odin
And for anyone who has flashed a different modem you can get the stock modem from the above thread also.
and encase you need to repartition you will need a stock .pit file as well - though as of now as far as I know this is not needed for any reason - non of the roms or kernels in the dev section here in the att xda forums would cause any need for a repartition. Take care with .pit and repartitioning you could end up with a soft brick, a situation that can be recovered from but still not desirable
And if you have flashed anything containing the boot loaders you will need stock boot loaders too, but be very careful with boot loaders as a mistake with boot loaders can result in a hard brick

How to Prepare Your Phone to Return to the Store or for Warranty Replacement
There you go. A nice easy to read guide by creepy. Good work.

Great guide creepy.
To the OP - why do you believe my packages are not up to date? There is only one firmare revision available for our phone, and that's UCKH7. UCKJ2 is a leak - trying to return a phone with J2 will be a surefire sign to AT&T that you've been diddling around.
It is correct I don't include bootloaders in the package - this is intentional, flashing bootloaders is extremely dangerous. I have a bootloader dump buried within the thread, but I strongly encourage you NOT to try flashing those - again, very dangerous with a good chance of hardbricking.

Well I read through my post again. I thought my question was pretty straight forward, by the responses I received, but I can see where you could have misconstrued my request.
Your packages are all great and (with out a doubt) are the go-to steps. However for noobs, I wanted a more "spelled out" dictation of the steps.... Like the ones supplied by creepyncrawly!
Bro my apologies if I've offended you.... THIS WAS NOT MY INTENT!!!
I still have questions of superuser being in the apps, after all these steps. As I stated to you (PM). I really don't remember if this is installed by AT&T/Samsung out of the box. If not, how is it removed? I would assume, if one were to return a phone, this would be something AT&T wouldn't want to see (again assuming it wasn't stock).
Was the su app still there after flashing entropy's non root package? Are you sure you flashed the non root package and not the stock + root?

did you use the UNROOTED version of the package that he provided?
no, superuser is NOT provided by ATT, for obvious reasons.

Well there's something interesting. I will retry. I had both on my computer and may have used the wrong one.
Ok so first of all a disclaimer: This is my very first forum post in my life so excuse any unspoken rules that are not being followed. I took my phone to a phone nerd store and even he couldn't give me answers so he suggested this site where "the phone gods" are as he said. Also feel free to face palm during or after reading this issue because it too, was my first root and clearly I should not have....anyway step by step here is what I did and hopefully someone can tell me where to go from here.
I rooted my phone about a month ago. I am not familiar with flashing ROMs and what not so when the new KitKat came out I wanted to download it but didn't know how with my phone rooted. I looked up on YouTube how to unroot and go back to stock and there as a video for a "One click" unroot. So being unwise and an idiot, I downloaded it and it said unrooted, however it just deleted supersu and my phone no longer has root access however when I boot it up it still has the unlock logo and in recovery mode I get the green android with writing in the top left corner stating that ODIN mode is being ran. My issue is that ever since I did that, I can no longer log into any google apps such as playstore or even a google plus act..it just says there is a problem with the servers. Like I said before , I took it to someone who knew what they were doing and he said he would flash it back to stock unrooted, but during his troubleshooting, he said it kept failing and he didn't want to be responsible for messing it up further. If anyone can tell me what the hell I did so I don't make the same mistake again would be great, even greater if someone can walk me through how to get back to stock. I know this is a lot to ask, but like I said I have zero idea. From reading other posts, I will list all the info I have about my phone so that can be a starting point.
Verizon GS4
Model # I545
Android Version 4.3
MK2 Build
Kernel Version 3.4.0
Any info or ideas would be great! again, feel free to include what a dunce I am because I sure feel like one!
Thanks!

As some of you may have seen, I've found a root method that seems to work and be stable. I just unrooted, tried it again and failed once, tried it immediately after and it was successful. I think I may have found out the glitch why it's not working for some of you. During the root process, you absolutely can NOT let the screen go blank, timeout, or change. Mine has failed every time doing that, when I keep it on and uninterrupted, I've had success with it in about a minute.
Secondly, I know a lot of you want to make custom roms and complain about the bootloader being locked. That's true, but mine is unlocked, even though I did trip the Knox warranty counter. From the testing I've done so far, I've made a backup from the Online Nandroid backup app. I have learned that it is impossible to restart the phone in recovery in any way, shape or form without triggering the *Unauthorized software found, return to AT&T* error message. However, what I've been doing there to get my phone back is going into download mode, using Odin 3.07 and flashing the bootloader from the stock NE7 firmware. That can be found here: http://www.mediafire.com/download/9...711751_REV01_user_low_ship_MULTI_CERT.tar.md5 None of my stuff is lost, phone will reboot normally, everything looks good.
Now, as far as custom roms are concerned, since I have no idea about how to do that, I do have a custom recovery image saved through the other thing, but I don't know how to restore it through Odin. I do get kernel fail message if I try to enter recovery mode still, generally, all I have to do is power off and restart, it should work fine. If not, I load the bootloader image.
Having said that, it has me thinking. Since I'm basically using a custom rom already, I uninstalled the bundled bloatware and I *think* that's why I'm getting the error when I try, it may be possible to build around all of that and simply reflash the bootloader. I admit at this point, I'm in totally uncharted territory for myself and I'm not really even sure what trying to do a factory restore might do, but I do know I can recover using the stock firmware and then hopefully getting root access back to reload everything from Titanium Backup.
Until I get some sleep and enough nerve plus free time to try the factory restore to see if that is causing the issue, it's all theoretical. The point I'm getting at, and wanting to ask since I don't really know how it works, is if I can take the total stock rom as it is, root it without removing anything, and get it to boot into recovery from the phone or even through Odin, would that help the developers out there be able to come up with a workaround solution for this? I know I'm onto something, but I don't have the experience to proceed.
Since this phone has been dead and most of you have relegated it to a drawer or something, if you still have it, I'm guessing the Knox warranty 0x1 won't really mean a whole lot, so testing can be done. I'm trying my best with the total lack of knowledge I have and looking through different forums, but as I said, its beyond my experience level. I've cracked open the door folks, I can tell you absolutely, even if it does go into a bootloop or AT&T error, that bootloader will work without any loss except for the time it takes to get it done. I'm a bit brain fried right now, so if anyone has any suggestions, ideas, or whatever please comment. I believe this can be done, it was only a short time ago everyone said Root would never be on here, and now here it is. I also read in the Note 4 threads that once root access is gained, custom roms and things aren't going to be far behind.
Maybe there is a way to integrate that stock bootloader into a custom image without having to go around like I'm doing. I don't know programming very well. I'm sure that some of you folks with more experience and better minds than mine can come up with something based on my initial findings.
just used this on my i527 running i527UCUBNJ1.
ran root check and all good..tested romtool box, backed up some app s,all good..over clocked cpu no problem..awsome wrk.
now for kernels and roms..

Nice detailed post. Thank you.
I wish I had I527 to help out. (I have 527M and R960). I do care about Knox on my 527M but I don't care much about R960 as it's already Knoxed-out. So I might be able to help, but I ask all members who have I527 to chip in.
I have opened 527M and hardware-wise it's same as 527 (it even says 527 on my 527M board), so theoretically it should be same. But as I said in thee other thread, even KingRoot.apk fails to root it!!! ???
I didn't do anything to it. I unrooted last night and had it fail, but it worked again after.

If anyone is interested, I successfully completed root process again with the kingo root app which allowed me to install and update SuperSU. Not sure if it will work for everyone, but it will work if you've already gained root access and want to change super user programs and had trouble previously.

Good News and Bad News
I just tried to a factory reset without deleting my SDcard data. The bad news is, it went to the unauthorized error screen again. Good news is, the bootloader flash worked and I still haven't lost anything. Even if/when I unroot, it still says custom. Perhaps if I enable Knox before unrooting, I can restore the official version.
Wow, this phone is so stubborn! Goddamnit Samsung! What the hell...

I'm thinking more AT&T than Samsung. There are so many of their apps embedded in the OS as well. Not sure which direction to take, I've frozen a few of them too.
You guys in the south should stop buying phones from AT&T. I'm sure you know they have been fined for millions of dollars to FCA for misleading advertisement (read = cheating).
Good News and Bad News
It is possible to go back to the stock image of NE7. I did it, I'm waiting on the update to NJ1 now. I was unable to do a straight factory reset from the phone, I got the same error, I even tried it again through Odin and it left everything as I had it. I unrooted, did everything I could then used all the firmware from the stock image to reload. I haven't been able to test the backups I made, they keep crashing in Odin. When I get updated and hopefully regain root access, I'll try to use the images I made to restore. If not, I still have everything backed up from Titanium. I don't know if this will work yet. I also don't know why Knox has been tripped on others devices. I didn't have a problem with restarting or anything until I tried a custom recovery. I guess that's just the nature of the beast. I'm planning on trying to make a totally stock image with root backup once I get this finished, if possible.
NE7 is Android 4.4.2 and NJ1 is ???
It's the latest update of 4.4.2.

Hey guys... I am having serious issues with my note edge and have been trying for a couple weeks to fix this myself without any luck.
Here is what happened... My Verizon Note Edge (SM-N915V) started to get a little slow and bogged down. I wanted to do a hard reset to get a fresh start. I originally bought this phone used... When I did the hard reset i was surprised to discover that this phone had been previously rooted. The phone will not start but I can enter download mode. I have searched the web and tried several different options but they all have failed during odin. What I am hoping is that there is someone here who knows more about this and then can direct me to the correct method and if it doesn't work I will post pictures or whatever... Would really like to get my phone back working again.

Any idea if its a Developer Edition? The Verizon Note Edge currently only has a temp root solution that is reverted upon reboot so unless it's a Developer Edition you may have a different problem. I believe the file you flash via ODIN is different for the Developer Edition. I don't have one so I'm not 100% sure on this but that may be a good place to look.
Otherwise, let us know what's happening when you try to flash via ODIN, errors, timeouts, whatever and maybe someone else can offer more assistance.
