I am sure this has been asked many times but after days upon days of searching and reading this thread and that thread I still haven't profit.
I am not a noob.
I swear I am not a noob.
When I first received this device, I was to excited about rooting and flashing a custom ROM that (1) I did not backup the stock loaded ROM [proved to be a major mistake] (2) I did not take the time to realize there is actually a 2 part step in fully achieving root.
I am HTC unlocked, rooted with a custom recovery (TWRP 2.6.1(?) (lastest) and custom AOSP ROM. S-ON
I have tried 4 different ROMS and nothing has been able to S-Off this device.
Now I am wondering if my setup has something to do with it. That is the only thing I can figure out.
Running Windows 8 with 4 different hard drives. One of them being a SSD. The SSD has the OS only on it. While everything else is on a second drive including ADB. Now the paths are set up to pull ADB from the D:/ drive. This is where I think the problem may lay. Does moonshine, somewhere in its programming, try to pull everything from the C:/ drive, while mine is on the D:/ drive?
I can get Step 1 booting to fastboot. Step 2 reboot. Step 3 booting to fastboot and then nothing but **************************************. Even after an hour passed, still *********************************.
ADB reads the device fine. I have changed the USB port to every port I have (5 different). Changed the cord 7 times. Get the same results each time.
I have also tried down grading my recovery to TWRP 2.3.1. so I may be able to load a stock rom. It will load but the touch screen will not respond to TWRP 2.3.1.
Here is what I have:
Sprint HTC Evo 4g lte (duh)
HTC Unlocked, rooted w/ custom recovery and custom ROM
Jewel PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-2.09.0000
Radio-1.12.11.1210
OPEN DSP-v31.1.0.45.0815
eMMC-boot
Am I going about things wrong or am I not able to achieve S-Off?
It sounds as though part of your issue might be with your drivers, which is why the test portion of Moonshine isn't completing. I've seen numerous posts regarding issues with Moonshine & Windows 8, so if you have access to another computer that's perhaps running Windows 7 you might try that instead. Can you connect your device via "Fastboot USB" mode, and if so, what happens when you run the command "fastboot devices" (without quotation marks)?
As far as your touch screen not working, the 3.16 software update included an updated touch panel driver so you have to use TWRP 2.4+. For the time being, I recommend installing MeanBean ROM, as it has a kernel installer to make S-on flashing easier. Simply do a full system wipe in recovery and flash the ROM zip. When you reboot, the phone will boot to the splash screen, then back to recovery. Flash the ROM zip again, and reboot. Remember, it may take a few minutes for the phone to boot up after you flash a new ROM.
Also, check PM.

I will setup my laptop this week. Unfortunately, it will not be until the weekend to test this out. It is a work phone, so during the week, I need to be stable and completely operational just in case I mess thing up. That way, I have two solid days to get it fixed (which has happened on more that one occasion).

After running moonshine 300+ times, it gets stuck at this part : https://www.dropbox.com/s/si72twuxavihut9/Screenshot%20%282%29.png
I'm sure it is something I have setup wrong.
You could just burn a live cd of Ubuntu and circumvent the whole thing, that's what I did.

I keep running into this and can't get past it for s-off. I can get the phone back up (it is up now), but if anyone knows how to get past this I would like to s-off.
At the "do the wire trick now", I am using the s-off timing metronome, and first touch causes reboot of the phone (and USB disconnect noise in Windows) but all I get at the second wire touch is "unknown device" popup from Windows for qhsusb_dload, and ControlBear can't find my phone. Phone is then stuck with black screen with totally borked SD card. I have tried this several times now.
I have, however, figured out how to get the phone back in a running state after this. Figured I would share the process in case other noobs like myself hit this same issue (see below)
I have hit two different scenarios:
I locked my phone, flashed the latest ICS release (RUU_Vigor_3.14.605.10_PH98IMG.zip), unlocked, installed AmonRa, rooted from AmonRa menu, then ran ControlBear.
I get all the way to "do the wire trick now", and no matter what I do or what wire I use, I can't cause a reboot of the phone. Eventually, I gave up (20 minutes, 3 different solid and stranded wires, and about 100 touching of the pins later), and stopped ControlBear and pulled the battery. Got back to bootable state, and tried the whole process again 4 more times. Same result each time.
Then, I installed Nils' Business ICS 4.0.3 Sense 3.6 (ICS 3.14.605.10) using s-on procedure, and tried again. Now, I can cause a reboot no problem when I see "do the wire trick now", but it results in a qhsusb_dload state. Tried 4 more times after getting the phone back up and SD formatted again. qhsusb_dload state happens every time, reboot happens first touch each time.
Anyone have any ideas on how to get past this issue?
=====================================
If you hit this same issue, here's what you need to do to get your phone back up:
1- close ControlBear
2- unplug USB from phone, then pull/replace battery
3- boot back into hboot, reconnect USB - go into fastboot
4- re-flash your boot.img
5- reflash AmonRa
6- boot into recovery
7- using AmonRa, partition SD card (just accept defaults)
Unplug, reboot, and you should be back in business.
If you read the directions on how to s-off, they say you need to be stock rooted and htc-dev unlocked. You might be having problems because your not on stock rom. Try that and see if it helps.

That was with stock image...now that I am on Nils, the same wire that wouldn't do anything works and causes a reboot reliably every time. It just leaves me in a hung state with qhsusb_dload drivers trying to load on the PC.
Driver issue with Windows. If you install them via HTC Sync, make sure Sync is disabled while running ControlBear. Try a reinstall otherwise.
If you would like a fresh install of just the drivers extracted from the latest HTC Sync payload:

At this point, best bet is to un-install sync and use the extracted drivers above?

Glad you got past that hurdle, now be sure to reinstall your recovery and enjoy your freedom. Just don't flash any bad radios or bootloader downloads and brick it worse lol. This qhsusb_dload error is just communication and phone state issue.
Since ControlBear left me at hbooot, I flashed AmonRa and the boot.img for my ROM before I did anything else.
All is well!
Sorry for the double post but really Trying to s-off as well. All attempts says still sober no reboot of phone just re run control. Just a question. What does the rezound screen look like when the program says pre form the wire trick? PC says fast boot detected and rezound screen just shows htc logo in a silver color. I watched the video and it looked like his went into boot loader not just an htc logo? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

When it says do the wire trick, do the wire trick. It won't tell you to do it unless it's ready so the screen doesn't really matter.
I had the same problem...when it was not working, I had the black screen with HTC logo.
After un-installing all the HTC stuff and re-installing using the .exe linked above, it was on the hboot screen when it said to do the wire trick.

I assume your SDK environment is good? Can flash ROMS and such?
Also, are you using the controlbear that matches your firmware (not your ROM)?
Try going RUU to the latest leak, then flash Nils' ROM. That's the setup that worked for me. (if you do that, make sure you get ICS version of controlbear, and take the built in hboot update. Also make sure you have AmonRa handy. )

The problem might be because the S-Off only supports the stock rom of v3.14.605.5 and no later (as of now).
I cant seem to get by this step. Stuck on step 9 of DirtyRacun
My RUU.zip is in the Dirtyracun folder on Ubuntu LiveCD and have verified the checksum. Ihave seen by a google search that other people outher have had this problem (pastebin) but I havent been able to find a solution. Can anyone help me? Everry thing has worked in the s-off process til now...
Have you tried the support channel? Are you on 3.16? If not you can use FacePalm
I had firefox crash on me and this RUU takes forever to download. Right now I am stuck at the HTC logo and cant move forward. I have tried the IRC but i sat there for 30 min looking at no response. I have downloaded this thing 4 times now.
if I ty fastboot reboot, it tells me I ont have fastboot installed? I wouldnt mind trying something else if I could get my phone back!

do you have htc sync installed? it seems that you need to have this installed to have the phone recognized for fastboot it happened to me and I have used dirty racun twice as I had my evo replaced twice this month, install it and then try to run the fast boot commands, good luck!
Mac problem?
Could the problem is that I'm running Ubuntu from my MAC? See this post:
Can't post the link, but found this on androidforums:
That's based on HTCdev unlock, so as mentioned, use MyBackup Pro and SMS Backup+ to save what you may, that unlock will do a factory data reset, all user data and apps will go away.
That will give you full root, with an s-on unlocked bootloader.
The option to get a s-off unlocked bootloader is only open to you if you have a Windows platform to run the Dirty Racun tool - either in Windows mode or from a Live CD using Ubuntu. (This has to do with how the Mac platform maps access to the usb ports, the Unlimited.IO team's stuff doesn't support it.)
If you do have a PC and want to try Dirty Racun, go here -

so I bricked my device. it boot loops at the htc screen. several hours later or repair attempts and I still am back to where I started. Initially was able to load elegencia, but when the wifi was not responding I tried to load another ROM and everything has just gone downhill from there.
on my boot screen I see
***UNLOCKED***

CPLD-None
MICROP-None
RADIO-SSD: 1.09.55.17
EMMC-bootmode: disabled
CPU-bootmode: disabled
HW-Secure boot: enabled
modem type : mdm9215m
I dont really want to re-trace all my steps as I have tried many things to get this back up and running. I may have put the wrong ROM on as I got confused thinking this was a HTC OneXL. I think I want to put venom on here and leave it be. As of now I can no longer see the oneX+as a removable hard drive when i plug it into my pc. windows reports missing hardware ID once and a while. I have recovery as an option when I boot to hboot, but I cannot figure out how to load a boot able image from there. my backups got deleted. When I check my hardware with adb I cannot see it, but my pc detects a device being plugged in. I can flash to the device. So I think I also deleted my hardware ID trying to put in 11111111 superCID. not sure what else I can add. Any help would be appreciated.
sorry if this type of thing has been played out, I just dont want to follow another guide that gets me nothing or makes things worse.
Well, if it makes you feel any better, as long as it boots it's probably not "bricked". Since you can still flash.. can you not just reflash recovery, wipe it all, and flash stock?

it does. thanks. I am kind of nervous to do anything else without specific instruction or guidance. Where can I find a stock rom? what command sequence should I use in flash boot to get it back to normal? I know I can force ROM onto the unit with adb but adb isn't seeing my unit while fastboot is. so how do I get the rom onto my phone?
U changed the Rom with another one thin it's looping ?
Maybe it's the kernel !!
Boot into bootloader and flash a new kernal that support ur new Rom .. don't forget boot.omg
Sent from my HTC One X+ using Tapatalk 4
I did more than change the rom. I tried several things to recover the device and may have made things worse. The last rom I tried to upload, was probably not for my unit. for whatever reason I convinced myself that the reason I was having issues was because I had an htc oneXL and not a htc OneX+, and that may have compounded issues. I also tried to flash superCID to 11111111 and I was never able to do it, and at around that point my unit dissapeared as a removeable storage in windows. SO I am unsure how to put roms on the phone now. adb does not seem to see my unit.
I tried running the android phone ROM update utility but am getting a Error 155: unknown error, when I run it.
I dl'ed and ran the two top most ones here http://www.androidruu.com/index.php?developer=EvitaRE . the update went pretty far but never completed due to the first saying it was incorrect version and the second the Error 155. One thing that is different now, is I re-updated my drivers using Hasoons HTC OneX+ all in one toolkit and I can now see a drive in windows when I boot into recovery. The removable storage drive in windows tell me to insert a disk when I click on it, though. Before I could see 59 gigs of storage, it now has 0 bytes.
I think I am ok for now. I was able to get viperxl+ 2.0 to load via side loader on my second attempt. I rebooted and no more loop. still cannot see my storage in windows when plugged in via usb. but running is running. thanks for your suggestions.

don't try to change the [CID] u cant do it on OneX+ because (S-ON) and no way to make it off ( as i know )
try flashing stock RUU after re-lock ur Bootloader and thin u will get the OTA update its awesome
+1 to flashing a stock RUU, in theory, this should fix any issue you're having. Once back to stock and 100% working you can start flashing other ROMs.
REMEMBER: AT&T and the International phones ARE different and require matching ROMs. ie if you have ATT phone, make sure you flash an ATT ROM/kernel
Hi all,
Here are my steps so far:
Unlocked bootloader using htcdev website
Installed TWRP recovery: openrecovery-twrp-2.6.0.0-jewel.img using flastboot.
Installed stable build Cyanogenmod 10.0.0: http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?device=jewel&type=stable (side note: I've also tried the latest Nightly and M snapshot)
Factory wiped device
Rebooted
Stuck at the CyanogenmodMod boot splash screen. The icon animates and I've waited about 10 mins but never gets to the desktop.
Here is what I have in the hboot screen:
Jewel PVT Ship S-ON RL

Of course I forgot to backup my original ROM, so I tried installing a stock ROM and now phone is stuck at "HTC quietly brilliant" page x_x
I looked through http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1869377 but I'm still confused as how to recover my phone. I still can get into hboot and install different ROMs.
Sorry being a dummy and thanks for helping!
Being that you're S-on, you would need to flash the kernel separately for Cyanogen. Download viper or meanbean as they are S-on friendly. Follow their instructions for flashing. Get up and running and consider going S-off.

Try downloading and flashing MeanBean. Make sure you follow the instructions to get it installed properly. Flash the ROM zip, then reboot. The phone will boot to the HTC splash screen, then automatically reboot to recovery. Flash the ROM zip again, and you should be good to go, just give it a few minutes to boot up. As far as issues connecting with fastboot devices, it sounds like a driver issue. You may also want to try rebooting your phone and computer:thumbup:

Stick to a fairly stock ROM for S-off. Once you're finished you can flash whatever ROM you like. You'll need to use Moonshine to gain S-off on your phone, so head over to the Original Development section and take a look

Hi guys,
Resurrecting this post
So I decide to go for S-Off now there is a new stable release for the Jewel. I installed MeanBean and ran Moonshine (moonshine_jewel_3.16.651.3) on it. I got a weird message at during the moonshine process ("WTF: What are you doing?"), however when I rebooted my phone I saw S-OFF, so I guess everything went well *enough* .
Next, I installed Cyanogenmod (cm-10.1.3-jewel.zip). Everything went fine and I didn't have to manually flash the boot.img this time ^_^.
However, my cell reception does not work anymore! I can't make/receive calls or get the internet with my phone. What happened? Does something need to be updated that I missed?
Thanks again guys!!

Hi guys,
Resurrecting this post

Did you have service on your phone after you completed the S-off process? Many times, after S-off, you have to call Sprint to have them refresh your service. You'll need to be on a Sense ROM. Afterwards, you can go back to CM.
You can also try updating your profile.

Hi again FinZ28!
I didn't check after getting S-off if I still had service. However, after I switched back to a Sense ROM, Meanbean, I did not have service. I tried a few things and it magically started working. When I installed Meanbean this time, it asked me to activate my phone, which it succeeded. Because I didn't have 3G service I couldnt update my profile or PRL, however over Wifi I was able to. After the two updates I restarted the phone I got voice service but not functioning 3G service, although it showed "3G" at the top I was not able to load pages. So I tried calling Sprint Customer Service, which is *2, which actually take you to an app called Sprint Zone. Within that program you can check if you have voice or 3G service, which confirmed that I didn't have 3G service. However after another update profile and another restart the 3G started working. I restored my CM install and after a 2nd boot (first time didnt work), everything worked fine
Conclusion: thanks again guys especially FinZ28! Looks like Update Profile/PRL needs to be done a few times with restarts in between before it starts working after S-Off.
Glad you got everything working:thumbup:

My LTE took a dump the other day. Started overheating like crazy, despite no changes.
Was running cynagenmod 10.2 and it was working well. S-Off HBOOT 2.09.4444, Radio 1.12.11.1119
Then these overheats kept going all day until I turned it off. Then started bootlooping, would fully launch one out of 10 times.
So I wiped using TWRP and gave that a try, no luck, still overheating and bootlooping.
So I wiped and restored a TWRP backup, nothing... the stock rom is bootlooping even harder than before and never fully launches now.
It got to the point TWRP wouldn't launch until I had to put a fresh version on the SD card.
Tried to install the newest stable CM10.2 image and as before locking up at boot splash screen of the rom after HTC "quietly brilliant" and looping.
So now I am stuck, downloaded the stock RUU from HTC website, however the devices needs to be recognized to use their exe.
Is there an image I can throw on the SD card and use TWRP to try a flash from that? Any other recommendations?
TIA.

What are you trying to achieve? Do you need an alternative RUU flash or find a new ROM so you won't get bootloops and heating?
I suggest going on CM11 or resort to Meanbean for stock sense 4.
If you're running a RUU I suggest using this method here.

But before that please read the first 4 posts of this thread (especially Q&A) to get you updated on what's going on with the newest RUU.

I am trying to get this phone into any working order if I can. I have reason to believe the hardware has been affected by the overheating. I need to get it to fully launch before I can declare that, so anything to stop it from bootlooping is what I am trying to achieve. Occasionally, when it would fully launch, I noticed none of the radios worked, no mobile data, no WiFi and no Bluetooth which were previously functioning fine.
The links are down to the two files needed in the first post you're referencing.
I believe my partitions are out of whack and need to be fixed. Everything I am seeing to repair partitions is while the phone can boot, can someone point me to some info that shows how to fix partitions while only recovery is achievable? Maybe I am going about this wrong, search not returning the results needed.
TIA
You can RUU from the bootloader, without having to be booted to the OS. I can confirm this works on both the 3.17 RUU and the latest 4.13 RUU, which I have both used. Make sure you have HTC Sync involved and use a Windows 7 machine and you shouldn't have any issues.

You're saying you were able to get it recognized during Bootloader USB? The RUU will not recognize the device for me this way.
Yep, worked just fine connected via Fastboot USB mode.

Hmm, tried this on Win8, I'll give 7 a shot, thanks for the heads up!
How do I ensure my partitions are in proper order? Often when in TWRP and trying to run common commands, I get SD card unmountable and noticed what seems like multiple SD card nomenclature.
