Can I apply a screen protector under water??? - Sony Xperia Z Ultra

I trying to apply screen protector for more than 7 hours now and used 16-screen protector but always there is dust under it. Cleaning cleaning and in the bath, no way to get rid from the small dust particle.
Search in the net I done as describe, not working
So I thought what about applying it under water or under shower !!! is it a good idea do it, do you think it will work??? I am afraid to try it because I think there will be rest water under screen protector.
Any advice! Please.

Not sure if serious..? If you try to apply it under water, you'll get water/moisture underneath the screen protector. You should probably go outside and try it if your house is that dusty

I done both my Z and Z Ultra under water works mint just make sure it fresh water I used a glass baking bowl. And covered over the handset by about 3 inch. Good thing with doing it under water is once u got it on you can adjust it. Also don't take off the second layer normally marked as 2 till after all the the handset is full dry mine took around 14hrs otherwise you will just pull the whole thing off.

I applied mine wet. (not under water) I have a Super Sheildz branded protector. Its stiff, and not sticky.
When I applied it the first time, my screen looked clean, but I could see small pieces of dust under it. I think this happens to everyone.
So i rinsed my screen under water, and did the same with the protector, and applied it again. Used a stiff card to push water and bubbles towards the edge. Now its almost perfect. I have one tiny piece near the edge, so I'm happy with that..
Any other moisture will eventually pass through the plastic protector. (depending on the thickness and brand of your protector this may take a day to a week)
Mine took 3 days and then was 100% clear
Hope that helps

Take a really hot shower and then after your done apply the screen protector. The moisture in the air wont let dust fly around. You could also take a screen protector/tape and lay it on the screen peel it off then put your good protector on to take out the dust.

Easy now.
I've only used one screen protector, like ever, and i didn't even know we could use water to make it "stick"

I always apply my (or others') screen protectors with some pieces of Magic Tape stuck ready for use on my desk.
Here are my steps:
1) clean the screen really well (having a waterproof device helps since you can really clean it in water)
2) put the screen protector on, focusing on putting it on the right way, start from the edges (bottom, top, right, left, whichever fits you) and get the sensors in the right holes
3) once fitted, peel off the top layer and push any bubble that may have sneaked under, all those which aren't evidently dust particles ones
4) IF you have dust particles bubbles, put a piece of magic tape on the nearest corner
5) pull up the corner and, with another piece of magic tape, go under the screen protector and peel the dust off of it.
6) keep at it until you have zero dust particles
Mind that the magic tape is the only one suited for this job, as it doesn't leave any glue on anything when peeled off.
P. S. If you have no idea of what is Magic Tape, here it is:

Brando screen protector

The ultra clear Brando screen protector for hd
1 It fits perfect (because is 1/2 mm smaller than the original and it fits perfect at the edges)
2 Covers the entire screen
3 it disappears the Whiteness under big viewing angles (this phenomenon appears with the original screenprotector )
Can you post, link or price, or...

I'm wondering which one should i get, the screen protector or the invisible shield?
i bought brando ultraclear. Now i'm waiting
I just ordered it as well.
Looks cool and got a lot positive reviews. Should be ok than
The Brando Ultra Clear fits perfect on the Touch HD.
For me I use the Brando´s screen protectors for years and I think it´s the best you can get.
I have the Ultraclear and found it is about 1mm too short - it leaves a very small amount of fascia just below the buttons unprotected.
That said, it is better than the rubbish one that comes in the box.
If you are in the UK, they are available from Inkino from stock.
I bought mine from xpansys which is quite good, fits brilliantly & covers full screen exactly. you get two in the pack

I agree it's too small, but much better then the htc one.
im also thinking of getting that screen protector. but yall saying is doesn't fit the whole screen. is it noticeable. can you guys show a pics with the screen protector on the phone. thanks in advance.
My Brando Ultra Clear arrived in yesterday's mail from Hong Kong. Now I feel like a total idiot ... I can't get this @&%@ thing to stick down and stay on the screen. How on earth does it attach? There's no adhesive or sticky side. I've spent an hour trying to fit it to the Touch HD. Lots of bubbles - the screen looks like it has leprosy. I've washed it, cleaned it, tried everything I know.
HELP! Please!!
BTW, it has a cut-out for the light sensor, but not for the front cam (which the stock HTC one has).
is Brando's soft film?
This screen protector is 100x better than the stock one, in my opinion. Here's a picture for size reference

Are you trying to put on the actual screen protector or the piece of film that covers the protector when you open that pack? I was doing this myself for a couple of minutes, if its the top cover then its quite rubbery and green tinted, the actual screen protector is probably still stuck to the back cover of the protector still as mine was.
As for the Brando protector once it's on its a lot more impressive than the HTC one from the box, there is a very tiny gap at the bottom of the screen but less than a mm and doesn't affect useage.

Thanks for replying, KASM! No, I'm using the clear Utra Clear itself and not the bluey-green film that protects the protector. The instructions say that one should fit the protector to the device and then remove the green film. I tried that, with no success whatsoever. After fiddling for a while the clear protector had fingerprint smudges, so I washed it (without the device, as the instructions recommend ), dried it with a hairdryer (as recommended) and tried for another hour.
This is rather infuriating as I'm considered rather handy with little tech thingies ... I can't quite change a transistor on the silicon, but doing electronics is a doddle, so why the [email protected]#& is this giving me such grief...
AFW, did you try the other side of this screen-protector?
Cos normally they have that sticky surface covered by this blueish-greenish film
Although I got mine on with little fuss, I must have made a hash of cleaning the screen as it shows as lots of dust particles underneath the SP, have to do the damn thing again after cleaning it.
Determined to get it right after spending so much on a piece of plastic.

Mine arrived this afternoon BUT after a number of failed attempts to get a perfect fit I think I might need to give the screen protector a wash
Does anyone have any tips on the best way to wash the screen protector before I try to reapply it (I suspect that flinging it in the washing machine isn't considered a good move )
I am waiting for my ultra-clear, i beg on my knees somebody with a "BRANDO deployment certification" to kindly explain the process so that i avoid to put my self-confidence at stake!

It's Corning Gorilla Glass so you can go to their website and download the technical data sheets if you want to know.

no mention of "surface hardness" there.
anyone?

I noticed slight scratches from the stylus on mine. My screen protector was a day late too, D'oH!!! You'd think that the stylus wouldn't scratch it
If you're looking to get rid of minor scratches you can try some 3M polish like this person tried. I'm thinking about getting some to get the screen back to a more pristine condition and re-apply the screen protector.
**EDIT**
Using the info that thread of gorilla glas = = alkali-aluminosilicate may yield better search results. I found a PDF that has some info but no direct surface hardness mentioned in the paper.
Also the gorilla glass wiki has a range of different hardnesses: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gorilla_Glass
Through all my own anecdotal evidence, I've come to the conclusion that a portion of corning's production method leaves something to be desired in terms of consistency. Throughout the internet, threads can be found that go something like:
"I thought this pos had Gorilla Glass!!!! It scratches way to $$&*% easily!!!"
"My phone has been through hell with no case or screen protector and no scratches! You must've done something unreasonable!!!"
I've seen this everywhere, about almost every phone, and have come to this conclusion. Even my own g glass phones have varied wildly in scratch resistance. I still prefer having gorilla glass, but I do think it's a bit hit-or-miss.
i had my phone for 2 days and it got 2 scratches just from being in the pockets of my sweatpants. i took it back to best buy and got another one and had them immediately put on a screen protector.
the glass isn't nearly as scratch resistant as my HTC inspire. i had it for a year and only had 1 scratch.

The 'scratches' from your stylus are most likely in the coating on the surface of the glass, not the actual glass. Even regular glass isn't scratched by plastic. Rubbing some finger grease into them should fill them back in. I've noticed similar behavior on my Infuse, and they tend to go away as oils from my fingers fill them in.
my scratch is deep enough to feel with my fingernail...i dont think the 3M polish is meant for a scratch this deep from what i read on the link. thanks tho!

I tried that and they still didn't go away. With the screen protector on though they are not noticeable. When I re-fit/replace the current screen protector I'll double check the "finger grease" theory

Sony Xperia Z Ultra ASF Removal (with images)

Hi,
After reading several threads on ASF subject, and having a lot of scratches on it, I've decided to remove it
The back was easy, and I have remove it few weeks ago.
For the front I have waited for new screen protector to arrive.
It's a Mocolo ordered form m glass:

Inside:
The actual screen protectors:
Mockup:
Without putting it on, it does not feels like....glass. Not sure about quality either, a lot of fingerprints on it.
Onto the main topic now:
- The entire operation took almost 1-2 hrs from the first picture to the last (2 hrs if we count the unboxing and phpoto shooting).
- The removal itself was rather quick.
- I have used Refined Alcohol of 96% purity (not sure the term is in proper English)
- I have used a kind of a clay modeling scalpel/knife (not very sharp).
- The first corner was a little damaged, but then it worked like a charm. One small issue on the opposite corner, bit no issues at the end.
- The removal of the glue was at fist hard, but 10 paper towels and few alcohol drops later, all was ok.
And the pictures:
- The knife, the bottle and XZU:
- First corner (picture taken at 8.48 PM):
- and the rest:
Here goes the logo
- small issue with the foil getting broken at the opposite corner:
-Almost done:
- Done! All in one piece (last picture taken at 8:59 PM):
- I was almost scared when I saw this on the camera LCD:
- ... solved by cleansing the camera lens :
- my camera decided to flash...
What went bad:
- Don't do it on you living room and on your expensive wooden table
What will be the issue:
I believe that with the screen protectors on will not fit into the charging doc:
Maybe using the larger "slot" (that was supposed to work with the case):
not sure if that is the narrow or the large one - I forgot
The difference:
PS: what was broken on the phone so far (some corners when dropped on concrete floor as we can se above) and the seal for the USB cover. This despite the fact that overnight is charged using the docking:
Ordered some but didn't arrive yet...
PS2: let me show off all my Sony accessories (to date):
Any questions, please let me know. I hope it helped to decide if its worth's doing it or not.
I would recommend doing this to anyone annoyed by the ASF scratches (that I have from day one!), even if is to be done with a kitchen knife. I bet some other types of alcohol will do as well to ease the process
Not sure about the screen protector thow. Should I use it, or not?
It will make the docking kinda useless.
Best Regards,
Vio
Thanks for your thorough review on removing that pesky ASF. I still need to do mine. Sometimes I look at it and whisper "soon"...
how about the back side of the XZU, does it have an ASF also? thanks
The back film is easily removable. No tool is needed, just use your fingernail. No residue remains either.
It behaves more like an aftermarket screen protector.
The good:
- The logos and the NFC symbol are preserved on the back, as opposed to the front;.
- The scratches are gone;
- Fast operation: 10 sec process;
The bad:
- A small annoyance is that the camera feels a little raised/beveled without the ASF on the back.
BR,
Vio
thanks for the pictures
still scared about doing it to mine though
Mines came off in hundreds of little pieces, and I have to use 91% rubbing alcohol and a razor blade lol

same thing happened to my xzu on front asf and cleaned it with kerosene...
I too have been thinking about getting an extra strong screen protector, or glass one, and using it to replace the ASF, mine is not too bad but has a fine pattern of tiny scratches which spoils the deep pure blacks.
So thanks for posting this review, very helpful.
The key to a successful operation is HEAT.
I tried the method above and I was getting small pieces out , just as appleknight and dandyqb.
Then I used a hair dryer to heat the film and it came out in one piece in a few seconds.
The funny thing is that the layer of the glue remains on the screen so it acts as a screen protector - at least temporarily.

Anyone have any suggestion when I should remove mine? I just have 1 small scratch on the ASF. While it is often dirty, cleaning makes it clear again.
My phone is about 2 month old, I bought it this year.

It 's your decision according to your taste and perhaps courage.
I have it for six months and only now I decided to remove the asf - and I didn't regret it.
I used my own method, with a mix of learning stuff from a big thread on removing it, it went well with no scratches, so I decided to make a small image tutorial on how I did it., hope it helps someone.
final step
Well, I tried removing it with a needle and peel the ASF off. It did not go well. The asf began to break.
I even tried doing the same thing as in this tutorial, nope. The ASF just broke.
End result?
I removed it after 3 hours and the screen is full of glue and scratches and parts of the ASF still sticking. Well, I dont mind the scratches because I did it with my own hand, the problem is the glue. Alcohold or acetone right?
I really got pissed off in the end. The idea of an ASF is ludicrous.

Skinomi TechSkin Screen Protector is garbage - Scratched and scuffed from installing

Out of the 10 or so plastic style protectors I've installed over the years this is the weirdest thing I've ever seen.
I installed it just fine. As I start to squeegee out excess liquid and air bubbles, I notice that my credit card is scratching the protector like crazy. I check the card and it's smooth as any card, nothing sharp or rough.
I finished the install. An hour later I took a picture to show how defective and stupid this protector is. I emailed customer service asking why their protector is garbage. there is no response yet.

I've also dealt with crap like that on past devices with plastic screen protectors. Hope they refund you or something.
that happened to me on a playstation vita screen protector. as i was installing it it was scratching like crazy and i was having a hell of a time wrestling with the damn thing. this after countless screen protector installs. realized after a while that i was installing the protector backwards...
You should probably get a replacement, I don't think their instructions are very clear. Check out the installation video on the website. You have to cover the credit card with the included cleaning cloth.
I installed it on my Nexus 6 and it is barely noticeable, the only problem I had was that the front facing camera hole doesn't align properly.
Wow man, you must have been "squeeging" like there is no tomorrow. Anyway, I hope you get a refund.
Wrap your card or what ever in the cloth first. Never put the edge on the screen protector unless it's a glass one.
I'll ask for a replacement.
I've never had to wrap a card with any protector ever, even since I've been doing them on my Iphone 2g in 2008.
weird that it's such a weak product.
Here's a suggestion
Definitely see if you can get a replacement. But this is how i apply a screen to my phone every time it is needed or when I get a new device
Step 1.
Wash your hands thoroughly this will get rid of any natural oil build up on your finger tips.
Step 2
Get a bowl preferably some thing large enough to fit the screen protector on.
Step 3
Place some alcohol in the bowl enough just to cover the bottom of the bowl don't OD on this.
Step 4
Remove the first layer of protective plastic and place it in the bowl face down as you would apply it to your phone
Step 5
Clean the screen thoroughly with lint free or micro fiber cloth
Step 6
Retrieve your screen protector moisten your finger tips with alcohol to avoid having finger prints on the screen protector don't worry about it being wet you will need it to allow you to make corrections when applying you screen protector on you phone wipe any air bubbles and excess alcohol on the edge of the phone.
Last Step
Very important to let it dry or use a hair dryer if you can't wait for a few hours.
Like I said I get a perfect application every time using this method seems like a lot but it works.
Applied a Dbrand skin and then a skinomi over it. The key is to use a ridiculous amount of solution on the screen and the device. I keep a folded paper towel under the device and one near the edge I'm squeegeeing towards. Always dab when the solution bubbles over a speaker. When its done, it can also help to dry it as much as possible with a paper towel and then wrap with plastic wrap for less than an hour, then take it off to let it breathe and the solution will evaporate though the screen protector after a day or so.
I've scratched the crap out of my screen protector while squeegeeing too hard or with no lubrication.... There's always time for lubrication!
This is actually my favorite screen protector. I had to RMA my device and they are sending me another for free.

Naked Edge

I was just wandering is there any people out there using your S6 Edge completely naked(without screen protectors and/or cases)? What kind of lifestyle do you have and how's the phone? I plan to use it completely naked.
Thanks.
I would also do..but ATM I use a very small plastic case for the back...nothing on front..no scratches..

No not naked big ass rubber case and screen cover but I'm a builder so need it
Naked S6 edge feeling so good))) im use only naked phones)))
I've seen plenty of people say they have scratched theirs in there pockets, so mine is fully protected.
I have the Spigen that is TPU with gold trim
Mine got scratch... in my porch with some coins.. my mistake let it together... my edge only 3 weeks used... feeling down rite now.. i think gorilla 4 is tough enough. ....

I hate phone cases normally but I find the edge really uncomfortable in the hand and far too slippery! Ended up getting a Spigen hybrid crystal and it's actually quite nice. It doesn't make the phone look too tacky and it's slightly rubberised - saved me from dropping it a few times already!
I just use the full body cover. I was using a case, but once you cover up the front and back and sides, the grip of this thing is more then enough. I hate cases and I like the feel of the phone without it. So, that's just how I roll. I'm glad I put the protector on though, cause I've already seen scratches on the protector and a few dings/dents. Woudl rather replace the film for $10, then replace the damn phone.
Almost naked but I use a Skin on the back. I travel with my phone and am always on the move.
h t p s://slickwraps.com/natural-series-wraps-skins-for-samsung-galaxy-s6-edge.html
I always use the phones fully naked, and they all get scratches. My S6 Edge already have some scratches on the back, i just don't mind. I rather have some little scratches than have to use a screen protector, i hate the feeling of it.
About my life style, i do a lot of sports and stuff and the phone goes to bags, pockets, gets water sprays, a little rain, dirt , dust .. for my iphone i do use sometimes a Lifeprof case for extreme sports, for android phones they usually go naked because i change the device a lot so i don't buy cases for them. I never cracked a screen thought .
I'm using it naked as well. Important to make sure you always have a dedicated pocket for it.
I'm an indoor engineer, so the phone doesn't have the risk of dropping (unless I have butter fingers, but i don't). In my lab if it's not in my pocket, I put it on a non-slip mat.
I also have a Spigen slim armor which I use when I'm out cycling, misc sports or with the kids. 4 weeks now. Flawless
Mines naked. I figure I'd just be careful instead of compromising and not experiencing the phone as intended.
I'm looking into cases anyway though because I'm getting scratches on the bottom of the back. It hasn't even been a month so I could only imagine what it'll be in two years.

Thank you all for your inputs. I decided to go with the Nilkin TPU case. It adds grip but looks like nothing is actually there. It is easy to remove when I like to use the phone naked. I have to wait for the Curved Crystal Screen Protector from Spigen to be available here until then I have to be careful. Sometimes I even put the plastic wrap from the box when I put it in a bag just to be sure. Lol.
No case, no front screen protector, just a back screen protector and a cotton pouch. I used this combo with my other glass phones an it worked out perfectly since I don't drop my phones

I got the S6 edge after shattering my totally naked Note 4. I was a bit crushed, especially since I got that 8 months ago after doing the same with the naked Note 3. So I vowed I would use protection this time. I bought the skinomi screen protector and the Spigen Ultra Hybrid for my S6E. I absolutely hated the skinomi. It made the screen feel and look disgusting. I'd rather break my screen and not have a phone than use that nasty thing. The Spigen case is ok, but it takes away from the beauty of the phone's curves. Also it seems to mainly protect the back of the phone, which is quite cheap ($30+ original oem). So I took that off too. I just need to be more careful *fingers crossed*.
Total naked for now. Got the Nillkin tempered glass back protector on the way and that's the only thing I will put on. It came with 2 protector for the camera lens as well. Need something on the back to prevent scratches from putting the phone on any surface.
Naked, I can't appreciate the phone all covered up.
Just want to ask now how is everyone doing with being naked especially on the front screen?
I will never use cases had a military drop tested case for my Nexus 5 and smash, maybe that one i had was a quality control issue ?
But i very much like Dbrand ?
