Semi-bricked phone keeps restting - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

I am a newb with flashing and really don't mess with it. I was able to root my phone, but never flashed. Tried flashing elegancia and it kept rebooting to htc white screen. i then tried a recovery, but something wrong with boot and sd-ext
i am able to enter the fastboot and recovery, but lost on how to get my phone back to working

I have the SDK installed, but I am lost and need some help please.

Is that ROM even for the HTC EVO 4G LTE? Do you have a link for it? For the time being I suggest using the mount setting in recovery to put a ROM on your phone, do a full system wipe, then flash. I suggest MeanBean, as it has a S-on kernel installer to facilitate installation while S-on.

It doesn't work when i tried these steps. I don't understand which RUU I would need to get it back to stock. I relocked the phone and tried a few RUU, but get errors in the utility. Any other suggestions?
thanks in advance.

You need to unlock your bootloader again. There is no RUU for you to use. There is the VipeRUU tool, but it requires S-off to work. If you can get into recovery, you can get a ROM installed and flashed to get you up & running.

I am so out of luck.. I can't get out of the rebooting. sorry if really newb, but spent like 8 hours trying everything. I am not certain how to use the tool because can't get s off.

Can you do without the device for a few days? If so, shoot me a PM. I should be able to get you up & running again, and get you S-off, also.
One thing to try, though. When the phone is rebooting, hold down the volume down button. When the screen goes black it should boot into the bootloader. From there you can get into recovery. Follow the directions in my guide on how to fix the phone after a system wipe. The link is in my sig.

I got it to work now. Not sure what i did correcrtly. i flashed the meanbean.zip, but got erros with signature verify. Then i flashed the boot.img from that zip and reboot and viola. How do I know what I have on there..I am almost afraid to check. What shoud i do to make sure this does not happen again. I am confident to try a few things now, but still pretty green.

A little help please

I just completed the HTCdev unlock, and now I'm going to flash meanrom. My question is, if I flash an earlier version of meanrom, can I use that to get S-OFF? I'm on .3 now, instead of the required .1. (I think that's the correct versions, not for sure.
You need to use lazypanda to get s-off. And it only works if you're still on version 1.13. If you've updated to 1.22.651.3 then you can't get s-off

Okay. I have the dev unlocked, ROM downloaded, can you link me to a recovery? I'm just getting back into this since my OG evo, haven't rooted for over a year. Need to get the swing of things. I haven't seen a link to a recovery I can use, so is there a guide for that? I need to be able to flash MeanROM, and all I've done so far is unlocked the bootloader with HTCDev.
After going through all of this and soft bricking my phone and getting a new one cuz I was too lazy to unbrick it, here is my advice:
After u root the phone, do nothing more than use the lazypanda method via Windows. DO NOT INSTALL ANY ROM ON YOUR PHONE TILL AFTER U LAZYPANDA UNLOCK!!! This is just my experience. What happened to me was just like everybody else, it reset and went black screen and was stuck in the diagnostic mode, and unable to turn back on.

TWRP recovery in the original development section is the only one that works for this phone, make sure to read the entire OP as I'm sure you already know.

You can install fresh 5.1.1 or viper 1.2.1...any stock Rom that is based off the 1.13 ruu and you must not be hboot 1.15

HTC Dev unlocked is not the same as Lazy Panda S-OFFed ~ they are distinct and separate scenarios.
Unless someone here has pulled off more "magic" the new OTA with hboot 1.15 blocks the exploits of the last rev of Lazy Panda, so you can have one or another, unfortunately.

[Q] Semi Bricked HTC Evo 4G LTE, Please help

Hello All,
I rooted my phone a long time ago and went from the stock rooted rom to MeanRom ICS. I then wanted to try other roms. I use TWRP 2.6 and tried everything to install a new rom. A friend suggested that I S-off my phone to see if that would work. I then tried Moonshine to S-off my phone. Now the phone wont boot at all. I can still get in the recovery and bootloader, but that's all I can do.
Here is my info for Bootloader:

First things first, welcome to XDA, and congrats on your first post/thread. Too bad that this is the reason for it.
On to more pressing matters...are you sure that you completed ALL of the steps in order? Also, did you happen to read this thread?

Do you have a backup you can restore from recovery? If so, install your backup to get you up and running again. Otherwise, you can mount USB storage in recovery and copy a ROM from your computer to your phone, then flash the ROM. Remember since you're S-on you'll need to install the kernel separately from the ROM. Most Sense ROM's like MeanBean and Viper have a kernel installer built in; just follow the OP for whatever ROM you wish to install.
Also, you must either use Facepalm or Dirty Racun to gain S-off on your phone. Moonshine only works for those on Hboot 2.09/software version 3.16.
You can find links to Dirty Racun & Facepalm in the link in my sig.

All that green text means is that the bootloader is looking for a PJ75IMG file on your external SD card. There isn't one normally there unless you're updating firmware. It's normal.
What ROM's have you tried to flash?

I load the backup, but the screen goes black after the initial HTC boot screen. I don't know what's going on.
I've tried CM 10.1 Nightly, Ubuntu touch WIP, and a few others. Everything seems to do just fine while installing, and then I reboot to a boot loop or staring at the HTC boot screen for a while.
When I rooted my phone, I went from CM 9 to MeanRom. After I went to MeanRom it acted kind of funky. I've not been successful at loading any new roms after that. I think I forced something that the phone didn't like onto it and now its stuck with it.
Try flashing MeanBean. Make sure you wipe properly before you flash it.

Should I go for the newest one? (3.09 or and older version)
The latest version should be just fine. The rom version doesn't change much aside from the fact that 3.09 has the latest changes and bug fixes.

In addition, make sure you follow Mikey's instructions on flashing the ROM since you're S-on for the time being. His ROM has a kernel installer that requires an extra step to install the kernel separately from the ROM on phones that are S-on.

SuperCID for HTC Evo 4G LTE:
Code:
adb shell
su
echo -ne "22222222" | dd of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p5 bs=1 seek=20
After you do this start the other commands
Just take your time do one at a time and read what it says in the cmd window
Sorry to bother you guys again, but it says device not found when I enter adb reboot bootloader. Am I doing something wrong? I do beleive I have all the drivers. Sorry for being a pain, still learning about this stuff.

[Q] HTC EVO LTE strange root fail

So I spent the last two days trying re-root my phone after loosing root, and I kept getting a fail after fail in twrp, So after waking up this morning and installing two root checking apps and titanium backup even showed my phone was rooted, then a few hours later those apps showed my phone is not rooted. does anyone have any ideas of what is happening or how I can get rooted?
Yes I used all the latest SuperSU.

I would start off by checking to make sure that you don't have SuperSU set to deny permission to root apps. When is the last time you updated your superuser binary with SuperSU?
What type of error did you get while trying to flash with TWRP?

well when I try to use SuperSU It tells me I have to update it either via normal or by TWRP or CWM I tried normal but I get an Installation failed. then I try TWRP or CWM but I really have no clue where to do it from there, I've looked around in it but honestly I have no clue.
And in regards to What type of error did you get while trying to flash with TWRP, I tap install then scroll down to the UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.85.zip, tap then swipe, then it says flashing file 1of 1 then it says FAIL in red. and that's about it.

Bricked :(

Hey guys, I seem to have ran into a few problems while trying to flash a custom rom on my evo 4g lte. Being that I was unable to flash two different roms i decided to go back to stock via the ruu.exe.To root, I unlocked bootloader with htcdev.com and proceeded to root with twrp. While trying to undo I then relocked the boot loader but when the ruu gets to around 93% it fails and gives me an error code. I currently dont have a rom to flash to nor have a recovery to flash anything. When at the bootloader screen i have ''Tampered'', ''Relocked'', and ''Security Warning''. Also I have S-On.
Any help or information is greatly appreciated. I need my phone back lol. I used to flash all the time with my old evo and never got stuck like this before.
Some more information might be useful. List your Hboot version and radio (baseband) version. Really, you should be able to unlock your bootloader again and push a recovery to your phone, at which time you should be able to flash a ROM.
If that doesn't work, hit the top link in my sig and go to the last post in the thread. Hit the link and follow the instructions on how to manually install from the bootloader.

You can flash any ROM with TWRP so long as it's for the EVO LTE. Having said that, since you're S-on you'll have to install the ROM kernel separately from the ROM itself. Read the guide in the top link in my sig for more info. There are a few ROM's that are easy to flash while S-on (MeanBean being one of them).

I never had to flash the kernel separately. Just did the normal wipe then flash and after it booted up it would go into a bootloop and I would reboot into bootloader then flash the rom again with it wiping
Took the red pill. HTC evo 4G LTE evilution red pill.

That only works with Sense roms that are equipped with the S-On Kernel installer. If you are coming from the OG Evo, you should know that flashing on this device is not the same at all. You certainly need to read before you act, otherwise you might brick your device. I've been stuck in recovery before from the same problem.

Major problem, Need your guys' help

I've had my Evo LTE since launch. Ran many many ROM's. Was on CM11 for quite some time and then all the sudden in my pocket it went into a bootloop. But, not a normal bootloop. It will boot all the way into android, I can unlock the screen sometimes even use it for a while then reboot. Many times it will get to the lockscreen only and then reboot, it will do his cycle indefinitely. I know this type of bootloop usually indicates a kernel/ROM mismatch, but all the ROM's I've been using since this started are the kernel included with the ROM and no customizations. I've done the ViperUU, I've re-flashed firmware. Wiped absolutely everything, except external sdcard. Sometimes it will run for a few hours before it starts again, and sometimes it start rebooting immediately. I'm at the end of my knowledge of what other steps to take. Those of you with mad skills, I petition your expertise please!
What version of cm were you using? Deck's build or nightlies?

Decks!
After it glitched I tried PA, Omni, and stock. Same issue on all.

You might want to try a RUU for your current firmware... It might be time for a refresh for your phone, then unlock, root and s-off again...

Agreed. I would RUU with the most recent OTA and go from there. If you're S-off you'll still be S-off once you run the RUU. Afterwards, I'd stay stock for a few days and see how the phone acts. If the issue persists you most likely have a hardware issue somewhere. If everything runs okay afterwards you can unlock your bootloader again, install a custom recovery and flash a ROM.

I didn't realize the HTC RUU was available. I thought ViperUU was the only one. I will give that a shot. Thanks guys! I will report the results.

Posting results as promised. The HTC RUU seems to have fixed the problem, haven't had a reboot since the RUU 3 days now. However during this process I was without a phone for 6 days, I picked up an LG G2. This phone kicks. Got it at Best Buy out the door for $48, CRAZY cheap for such a phone. I guess I'll be getting rid of my EVO.

I'll take it, lol. I need a working test device.
I'd like to test and see if an older RUU works with the new Sense 5 ROM setup

Of course that would be the first thing I'd test . Just can't do it on my everyday/work device.
