Nexus 4 ROMS - AT&T LG Optimus G

So I finally dived in and rooted my OG. I am digging Cyan so far. I have read that the N4 conversion is very dangerous and unnecessary at this point. But are there any ROMS that provide that Nexus vanilla experience. I kind of just want the newest version of android without att bloat ware. I looked through all the ROMs but not sure which one would fit this description. Thank You

Good luck
I'd like to see it before i'd try it, but it seems plausible

Root, Unlock bootloader? 2.3.6...

Just got my device today! it's running 2.3.6, What do you recommend?
Before the floods of "search first" replies, I'll guide you towards the sticky in this section. It has guides that can walk through the root process. Keep an eye on which processes work with the 2.3.6 build, most don't. Read that guide several times. Once rooted the world of ROMs is open. The i777 does not have a bootloader lock to contend with, in fact you want to avoid anything to do with bootloaders, that's where bricks happen. I don't know your history, so I don't know if you want to load custom ROMs. The ICS ROMs are still new and fresh. They are great, but not as polished as the GB ROMs. The GB ROMs are almost all near perfect, very stable and smooth. In that area just try a bunch, until you find one you like.
Lastly, enjoy. You just got yourself the best phone on att.

Thanks man, I've had a lot of devices, Mostly HTC, sensation, thunderbolt.. They all had locked bootloaders. So I'm figuring this device is locked also, But it appears not! I"m not so much looking for ICS right now. Just a stock rooted rom with no bloat. I like to ask before I jump the gun with any device, this device is smooth even with what AT&T has preloaded.

The i777 is the best stock experience att offers. That a due to the Samsung built Exynos chips. The LTE phones use inferior Qualcomm chips. (Fingers crossed the SIII includes a Exynos LTE compatible chip.) I like SHOstock for the stock experience. It looks just like stock, all the good things about TouchWiz are there, and all the bloat is gone. I am using SHOstock 2 now. That way I don't have to worry about uninstalling the wrong "bloat". Some of the bloat is necessary, or you'll get FCs. Shoman did a really good job optimizing the stock experience. UnNamed, UnOriginal are also good. But, the best way to know is to try them all. There is no shortage of ROMs here.

I said that once too. On my first day with the phone. After my Captivate I just couldn't get over all the smoothness and speed. I think I lasted 3 days. But, I'm not known for my patience.
Reserve judgement on the battery for a few days too. Give it a few charge cycles, and don't freak if you find your battery drop 20%+ on a reboot. Its an intermittant documented issue. It only affects what the system believes your battery to be at, the charge didn't really go away. You can find more about the cause if you search. But, knowing the cause can't help you avoid it.

Looking for the impossible...

I have a USCC note 2, posting here as the Verizon phone is the closest to the USCC version. Looking for a rom that is bone stock or as close to stock as my nexus 7 is, I want the stock jb launcher but would include all the s-pen apps and functionality along with the allshare apps and functionality. Is there such a beast for my phone?
You're asking for waaaasaaaay too much at this stage of the development game. There are roms that are stock, I know the VZW note 2 has an alpha cyanogen build, but no s note and other apps to my understanding.
And I dont think you should be flashing roms all willy nilly.
Sent from my SCH-I605 using xda premium
I use the stock debloated and then use Trebuchet launcher. Gives me the look and feel of AOSP (with some functionality) and I retain all of the stock features of TW, inculding the S-Pen, Dailer, some of the widgets (but not all I'm afraid). It can't hurt to give it a try. Just search for a trebuchet.apk. I did and I was pleasantly surprised.
Thanks for the replies, just researching what may be available at the moment. I dont plan to root for at least a month as I want to make sure there are no hardware issues.
I find all the roms quite confusing, just trying to decipher the differences along with all the new jargon doesnt help.
Thanks again.

Note 2 TW ROMs fading away

Hate to say it but looks like some Note 2 TW devs are leaving the phone. Seems they are vanishing weekly. Too bad because there were some great ROMs out there and I hate to see some of them go for the VZW variant. Really sad that VZW and Samsung are making things so difficult for devs these days. Makes me wonder if they left it open just long enough to steal hard working dev ideas for themselves without having to pay an R&D department to test the OS. Looks like AOSP 4.3 ROMs are starting to take off though, and with the addition of the App Bar, Halo and a host of other mods by great devs we still have a few options. That coupled with great mod apps in the Play Store you can almost get the TW experience with AOSP now.
Or maybe they are moving on to other projects until we get the 4.3 TW update. Then, hopefully some of them will return and develop for one of the top devices still on the market. The Note 3 will most likely be locked down like the S4 so I am thinking the Note 2 may be the last great Samsung device open to rooting and having the ability to flash custom ROMs.
To all the devs that made (or still making) great TW ROMs for our VZW Note 2, thanks for all your hard work. I know I have enjoyed being able to try different ROMs and tinkering with them. You all deserve donations and our gratitude. You guys and gals make the Android experience enjoyable for all of us.
I'm sure they will be back when we get the 4.3 update. This is the only phone that has an unlockable bootloader, with TW on verizon that's actually decent.

Hopefully thats the case. Or it may be time to switch carriers. Kinda tired of VZW and their procedures anyway.
If I could I'd leave for an att mnvo but I can't

What's wrong with the s3?
I'm sure the s4 will have an unlocked bootloader soon, especially with the 3k+ bounty.
TBH, this is what always happens. it makes sense that the devs move back to the latest phone. plus the note 3 is coming out soon too, so, yeah, pretty sure what happened to the s3 will happen to the note 2.
at first I really liked TW, but then I switched to the PACman rom and I haven't looked back. the features on TW are nice, but honestly I don't use them that much. i know every user varies, but there are a lot of apps out there that replace TW functionality. I really haven't noticed since switching. I just was unhappy being on 4.1.
As a TW ROM author for the S3 I can tell you guys TW has its limits and there is only so much we can do so we are all awaiting the 4.3 upgrade. We can mess around with themes and included apps, inverting things, but there are limits. It is not like TW has a nightly source code to keep building from. Just be patient and maybe play with some different themes.
Also keep in mind that the xposed framework has removed a lot of the necessity for a true custom rom as it does just about everything that previously had to be hardcoded in. Most custom roms anymore are really just themes with xposed installed by default.

The S4 wont be unlocked...however Im sure something like Kexec or Safestrap will be used to work around the Locked Bootloader. If you read into the details of Qualcomm processors and qfuses, you will quickly learn its pretty much impossible.
JB is still a very active rom, as is Nebula. One of the problems I have run into is that many of the roms are built on the international base. Cleanrom was the perfect rom for me but unfortunately Scott has moved on.
Jellybeans = very active, but I personally seem to always have little issues, I have however never seen anyone else with them.
Cleanrom = dead, but rock solid stable for me
Transnebula = Great support, and very active, however the tab UI just does not work for me... I would KILL to have these guys put together something like clean rom but with floating multiwindow. (One of the devs is also f&*(ing Batman in disguise I swear, listening to his gadget list is bloody awesome)
Lab Rats = a theme beast, but I am not really into theming, seems to me there is always something not quite right with custom themes.
There are also a few international based roms that are very active.
Edit: Oh yeah, also beware flashing Lab Rats at work unless you want your co-workers making fun of you for the boot up sound

Agreed. I actually missed my GS3 for about 2 months until the N2 ROMs started picking up. Now I'm digging PAC Man 4.3 and can't wait to see what happens with TW 4.3. Just hope the devs migrate back eventually. The N2 is a great device.

Beans just got a Moto X so I hope he builds for the N2 still after 4.3 drops.
Haven't tried Trans yet. Not a big tablet UI fan.
Still need to try the newest Lab Rats

I could not imagine going from the Note 2 to the Moto X lol
We have patches to run roms from other carriers, as well as rock solid roms that work flawlessly. X posed has opened up almost endless possibilities, and active themers(<is this even a word?) )help the look of a lot of the roms we do have. One of the best things we have is a bunch of good natured members willing to help, and learn. This goes a long way. New developers are born every day. Some will leave, some will stay. Heck Deckoz just started. Trans nebula is his first rom. This phone is a nice piece of kit, and unless I can get a xperia xl super cheap, and working flawless on Verizon, then I am staying put for awhile. You guys are stuck with me.

Honestly it's a gorgeous device. Almost pure android on it, some nice moto features. I would get it if I didn't have a note. It's honestly still in the back of my mind to get one. It's smaller yeah but it's got a really nice feel in the hand. Very smooth running device

Feel the same as the op but remaining hopeful and patient. Really sad to see cleanrom go and nothing really along those lines. I like beans also and not sure how much more he can do with it until there's a 4.3 to work off of. I've been messing with nova themes and other mods to keep me busy. That and just enjoying the phone with what we have.

Nova and the host of goodies and apps has made the TW experience more enjoyable until 4.3 drops. I realize the TW devs are limited until the next update. Heck I flashed back to Beans just to mess with X Posed since I really never have in TW roms.

Kenny,
Since your are reading ( and cleaning- thanks!) a lot of posts I wonder if you have seen any ExFat support for AOSP roms.Actually I want to be able to format a 64GB sandisk and be able see all ( most) of 64G and be able to put files larger than 4G.
Any AOSP roms/kernels with such support?
Many thanks
Abe

Looks like it is mostly CM 10.1 support but found these : http://forum.xda-developers.com/sitesearch.php?q=Exfat on cM
Updates are great, but since TW has its own limitations and we've had 4.1.2 for how long now? Tweaks can only be so tweaky! 4.3 will breathe alot of new life into our phone. I am not upgrading to the N3 lest something makes it more desirable. But seeing that we get the same update it will have, I am willing to wait a month to see what happens.

[Q] Looking to buy the note 2

I have the gs3 now, but I'm thinking about buying the note 2, and I was looking through the roms section for this phone. there are not many roms for this phone. Why is this? Is it because the spen? I don't know. I was just wondering. Thanks

Xposed makes custom roms unnecessary in general.

Probably for one, the locked bootloader and because the N3 is already out. There are a lot of custom ROMs though, at least enough to find one you really like. Most people just choose to run Beans or an AOSP rom. You can easily replace a lot of TW functionality through different apps with AOSP roms, though.

I would say that this is definitely true for some, but for others, no, Xposed doesn't make custom roms unnecessary.
There may not be the plethora you were hoping for, but the roms are top notch. Every one I've tired is a solid daily driver and still sports great features.
Thanks for the reply's guys
To take a stab at the spen question. The international note 2 has spen but more roms so I think it has more to do with Verizon as our carrier. And maybe for those of us here we have all been really happy with what we've got to play with... I dunno some just want a good debloated and customized TW rom in order to have full functionality of the spen.
also if you look at the amount of thread reads you can see which ones are more popular than others. I will say that Touchwiz based ROMs are easier to deal with (in my opinion) than AOSP/CM ROMs. The main differences between them is in the name, you maintain the Touchwiz S-Pen and other touchwiz functionality.
I went from the S3 to the N2. I miss all of the diversity of the S3 community but I do not regret switching at all. I love the phone and everything that goes with it.

How good do you think development will be for the G5?

I'm on Sprint so if I go Galaxy I have no chance of getting root based on what I'm hearing right now. So a big selling point here is the ability to actually do some decent, cool root stuff on the G5. However, in the past I've mainly used root for wireless tether, but I now have hotspot so that won't be a huge deal either. I never had the V10 or G4—was the development decent there? Do you think it'll be decent on the G5?
Put differently, what are some of the main things you'd need to see in development for G5 in order to think it's worth getting over the Galaxy S7 or S7E, *and* do you think we'll see those things?
Thanks!!
The biggest thing for me is that I enjoy using a stock rom over the different softwares that phones come preinstalled with. From what I have seen many different developers already plan on porting Cyanogenmod for the G5 if you enjoy using a custom rom. The biggest reason I chose the G5 over any Galaxy is the fact that I really don't like Touchwiz at all and if there is a chance of not being able to root it and get away from that terrible software I wouldn't want to take the risk.

Yeah, I'm not big into custom roms, actually. Too much work! When you say stock roms here, are you including stock but rooted?
So basically you chose it because of your dislike for Touchwiz, not because of development potential? And when's the last time you interacted much with Touchwiz (I've never owned a Samsung but I hear people saying it's gotten a lot better, and accusing Touchwiz haters of not having tried recent versions...not saying that's the case with you but just trying to get a feel here.) I've got to two stores to demo the Galaxies but they are in retail mode so I can't really tell if I'll like it or not (which is super frustrating!!).
Being on Sprint you can count on there being less development for it's version than the others. But there should surely be some and able to take some advantage of things from other versions. Check the G4 and G3 too see how different the amount of stuff for Sprint is. Darn CDMA lol

This is very true I haven't personally owned a Galaxy phone since the S2 Epic 4G Touch and I know Touchwiz has gotten better since then since I have many friends who run Touchwiz. However, I still don't like Touchwiz even with the improvements they have made to their software. Also, when I say stock I do mean stock rooted roms and these do come out for most variants of phones.
The only probelm is that atleast Tmo's version has a locked bootloader just like the S7, so how are you going to install custom roms ??
