[Q] Flashing GS2 back to 2.3.6 from 4.0.4 - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello guys. My device used hyperdroid 7 androidmeda before then I decided to flashed to Cyanogenmod 10.2 yesterday but some problem popped up. My GS2 can't find any signal, IMEI disappeared from "About phone". I tried many ways to solve it but all had failed so I flashed again with 4.0.4 base rom (I9100DXLPF - Thailand) successfully and got my IMEI appeared again with full phone signal. Now I'm planning to flash it to ERobot version 24(android 4.0.4) since it's quite popular in my country and that leads to my question
1. Since I flashed 4.0.4 base rom does that mean my device got unrooted?
2. If it's unrooted then should I flash Siyah kernel 5.0.1 through Odin to get it root again?
3. Does Siyah kernel already has CWM? or do I have to flash CWM in later?
4. In the case that ERobot rom can't function like I expect it to and I might want to go back to hyperdroid 7 which has android version 2.3.6 can I just use "install zip from SDCard in CWM" because at the time I should have CWM in already and with Siyah kernel.
My current device
Model number : GT-I9100
Android Version : 4.0.4
Baseband Version : I9100DXLPB
Kernel Version : [email protected] #3 SMP PREEMPT Thu Aug 23 13:50:48 KST 2012
Build number : IMM76D.DXLPF
also I got my IMEI back just from flashing this base rom
Thank you in advance

[Q] will flashing the original kernel ; make my phone SIM/NETWORK lock again ?

Hi,
I purchased my S2 from a retail shop and that time the shopkeeper told me its 4/5 days used.
At the Bootup the yellow triangle showed up and they told me that since the set purchased
from 3 UK and to make that SIM free they root it.
Anyhow i am using the set since Sep and i havn't found any problem...
Now i want to get rid of Yellow Triangle and upon the searching the forum i conclude that i
need to reinstall the original Kernel...
System Details are given below... ( two methods used for that)
INFOR THRU *#1234#
=====================
PDA : I9100XWKF4
PHONE : I9100NEKF2
CSC : I9100H3GKF1
BUILD INFO : Fri Jun 10 19:45:16 KST 2011

MODEL : GT-I9100
ANDRIOD VERSION : 2.3.3

KERNEL VERSION : 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKDD-CL161513
[email protected]#2
BUILD NUMBER : GINGERBREAD.XWKF4
Now as per my understanding my Kernel is XWKF4 but in Kernel Ver its shows that it is XWKDD.
Now the problem is - if i flash the original kernel ; will that make my phone SIM lock again
?
All i want to remove the Yellow Triangle and make it ready for the firmware updates..
Also can i remove the 3 branding without sacrificing the Stock ROM...
And can i install the other firmwares from 3 OR should i stick with the original...

Flashing any soft ware from here will not lock the phone.
you can use kf4 to remove the triangle.
You really cna not remove the 3 branding with the stock rom, you need a generic one.
You should you upgrade your phone. you are using 2.3.3, latest versions use 2.3.5 and has significant battery tweaks so the battery lasts longer.
you can use stock or custom but the choice is your preference.
Before flashing you should make a backup of your efs folder just in case.

Thanks Cosmic Blue for the reply...
Now I am wondering that ...
with info given in first post ...
Is there any stock rom from 3 UK that upgrade my device to 2.3.5
Regards,
flash this firmware :
XXKI4
Android 2.3.5
This package has: PDA: XXKI4| Modem/phone: XXKI4| CSC: XEUKH2
Download: http://www.multiupload.com/NAPKDLWC5B
XXKI4 Stock Kernel: http://www.multiupload.com/2FF735VQD5
Password: [email protected]
and this csc :
3 Network UK H3GKI1 CSC: http://www.multiupload.com/P8DL2EMO9D
and you will have a 2.3.5 rom which works on 3 network without branding.
Thanks mate ( cosmic blue ) much obliged....
Just remove the triangle....
Now have enough courage and going for KI4.....
Thanks again...

HELP!!!! Firmware troubles

Hi
I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction as i'm at the end of my tether.
I have the bog standard S3 GT-i9300 Nordic (purchased in Sweden)
Trying to flash back to stock firmware I downloaded the I9300XXBLH3_I9300NEEBLH2_I9300XXLH1_HOME.tar.md5 firmware (4.0.4) Downloaded from Sammobile
Flashed with odin
Restart loop - so I went into recovery mode, cleared cache and reset, restarted fine....
Upon restart phone downloads firmware update.... Updates
The in settings - about device i have Android version 4.1.1 - Baseband version I9300XXDLID Build number JRO03c.I9300XXDLJ2 (French??)
Kernal version 3.0.31 -319653
[email protected]#1
SMP PREEMT Thu Oct 11 23:43:16 KST 2012
Although this firmware lets me use my Telia Sim card it will not let me use my 02 simcard - Now I know the phone was originaly unbranded & unlocked
I then went into Kies and restored there, entering the phones serial number etc.
The phone was then updated to 4.1.2 (Russia) I9300XXELL4
I have no idea what I have done for the phone not to restore back to stock official Nordic firmware that is unlocked.....
Any help is very much gratefully received.

I'm lost, I9100p or I900p?
If it's I900p, what phone is that?
If it's I9100p flash any I9100 ROM / kernel.
If you don't wanna lose NFC, there's a couple of threads with a NFC enabler laying around here somewhere.
i guess it's about a i9100p
don't think a i900p exist....he wouldn't be posting here
and yes - any kernel would do the job (as gastonw says)

This is the jelly bean ERA, gingerbread is long gone.
Unzip that and you'll get a single file containing Code, CSC & modem.

[Q] need help with my mobile, i rooted then unrooted now i cannot update

Hi their all im matt
what it is i have the samsung galaxy s3 i9300 i bought it from carphone warehouse a while back in london (uk obviously) on sim only, so it wasnt branded etc.
Anyway shortly after a while i wanted to root it as i heard about all the benefits etc, so i used the samsung toolkit 7.0 and it rooted fine
anyway for some reason i ened up unrooting it i cannot remember why but i did, and now my device status shows as MODIFIED, and the OTA updates does seem to work as it just says searching but does nothing, ( im guessing this is because i unrooted and the device status says modified)
but before i rooted in the first place i never wrote down what firmware was on the model ( obviously the stock rom but i dont know what rom it was seen as i bought it from carphone warehouse in the uk)
but i wish to root my mobile again but also have the stock rom what came with the actual phone installed.
the rom information on my mobile is :
andorid version: 4.1.2
Baseband version: i9300XXELKC
Kernal version: 3.0.31-742798 [email protected] #1 SMP PREEMPT SAT DEC 22 17:04:04 KST 2012
Build number JZO54K.I9300XXELKC
can anybody tell me if this is the stock rom that came on my phone when i bought it from carphone warehouse or did i do something wrong when i rooted it in the first place and its installed some other rom. as i just want the stock rom and be able to update as normal but be rooted and device status to be OFFICAL and not MODIFIED
hope somebody can help me with step-by-step instructions
thank you
I've rooted and unrooted a few times, and yes because it says modified you are unable to update. The easiest way and the way i have previously done it was download
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1703488
and run the flash stock via Odin, this will download a stock firmware which it will then install. Follow the steps to the letter though.
Ive managed to update via kies previously and had an OTA update for it too.
The Uk unbranded firmware version is BTU, if it asks and i believe if you install XXELLA it will then update via kies.
Hi i used the samsung toolkit v7.0 like you said and ODIN loaded up and used the flash thingy but it does nothing to my mobile.
it still says
andorid version: 4.1.2
Baseband version: i9300XXELKC
Kernal version: 3.0.31-742798 [email protected] #1 SMP PREEMPT SAT DEC 22 17:04:04 KST 2012
Build number JZO54K.I9300XXELKC
in the about device.
so what firmware should be on my galaxy s3, if i bought it from carphone warehouse in uk should it be BTU or ELLA

BTU is the country code for the firmware. Basically a uk firmware has BTU on it. ELLA is the firmware version. I flashed that one and it was 06 on the selection screen from that toolkit. I managed to do firmware upgrade OTA successfully.
Now that odin has finished does it still say modified?

ok iv downloaded and flashed a rom im beliving is the correct one now it says
android version 4.1.2
baseband version i9300XXELLA

under device status, it still says modified
i loaded up Kies and now it says, the firmware i have on my s3 is not supported to recieved updates through kies
i try OTA updates and it just loads nothing happens
before i downloaded this rom i have on now, i followed all your previous intructions and i flashed 06 form the selection but it doesnt do anything to my phone
what is happening i dont understand, thank you i appreciate your time helping me to get my mobile back to normal
Im at work till 9 but I'll try and run the flasher and set mine back to stock to see if I can run the update afterwards.
Like I said ive done it before so unless they have changed something in one of the updates to ELLA it shluld bw working. Ill post again once ive done it and let you know

reset phone
right i heard about a csc changer and as you said before my samsung galaxy s3 should be on BTU, but it appears it wasnt, it looked like it was on XEO.
so i installed csc changer from the google play and it reset my mobile.
device status: says normal,
in download mode, everything is offical again.
but im not rooted
how do i get my mobile rooted without anything changing to custom again
not: i backed up all my apps via titanium
Im pretty sure rooting your device changes it back to modified as its flashes a new image.
Triangle away by chainfire can reset the flash counter so possibly give that a try.

Be sure to follow the ICS instructions -- many have followed the GB side, by accident or inattention. Flashing the wrong kernel puts your phone into endless bootloops.
That link doesn't seem to flash a kernel.
Looks like it does it the way I would suggest
Flash a custom recovery then just flash a root.zip in said recovery.
Which works no matter what version of android you're running.
But, not dishing your advice, good looking out.
And in fact.. op if you're planning on running a custom Rom... you can skip the flashing of that root.zip and just flash the desired Rom you want.
The rom will be rooted once it boots.
Only reason to root first, would be to run titanium backup.
I'm glad you explained that. It makes sense the stock recovery partition that gets replaced/rewritten is separate from the kernel. I made a bad assumption because to root and get the custom recovery I flashed a kernel .tar file with Odin.
