I would like to keep a contact list for a group of people where we would all need each others numbers: work collaborators, softball team members, boy scout troop members, church members, etc. I would like to have one person create a master list for a specific group, and allow everyone to sync their devices so that it can be seen in their contact list.
This is easy enough to do. Just have each person sync their phone to the same Gmail account, and only sync the contacts. However, with large groups of people, it becomes more problematic to allow each person the ability to change entries. Does anyone know a way to get a share a contact list with multiple devices that get read only access to the list.
I would like this to be able to be done across Android, IPhone, WinMobile, Blackberry. (Or as many as possible.)

Hi,
firstly, let me introduce myself:
My name is Tony and from my signature and amount of posts, you can see, I am a very active XDA user and used to do a lot of first and second level support for the blueangel and the blackstone and today my SGS2 arrived, which is my first native android phone. As soon, as i figured out all the tiny beginner's questions, i will start supporting this awesome device for all you fellow users out there.
But for now, excuse me, that I have to ask a few stupid questions that I encountered while setting up the device:
1. My phone is set to English (US) and my keyboard and voice input options are set to German (so that writing or voice inputting sms and german addresses are easier). However, Vlingo does not exactly support the dual language and sometimes produces problems when reading out english information, anybody else experiencing mixed language problems there? any advice?
2. i decided to set my up contacts from scratch. i put in all the correct formal names for my contacts, but when i connect these users to their respective facebook accounts (who are sometimes based on nicknames), the display name automatically changes to the facebook name, while i prefer the formal name. is there a way to change it?
3. contacts allow me to add several im accounts, e.g. ICQ. when i click the icq# of a user, it opens up im and states that only windows live, google talk and yahoo are supported. is there a way to either connect that to the official icq for android, or add other messengers to the stock im? if not, why bother inputting all the information, if one cannot use it?
i wonder why nobody else seems to experience problem #2.
i found it again here: http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=6067
apparently, when you connect contacts through one or more platforms, like facebook, twitter, last.fm, skype... and there names vary, your contacts app will always prefer the last name with the latest letter in the alphabet. in my case, there is one contact first name r. last name b., but one facebook, he goes by another variation of his name, "zu b.", so contacts prefers the facebook name, as z is greater than b. there is no logical reason why facebook names should be preferred to the phone's own stored name. after all, i entered those names because i wanted to find the contacts by that name. why does the phone tell me, my choices are no good and facebook's are better?
strike issue #1 and #3, i will find a workaround some time, but it would be extremely nice, if someone could check if this contacts issue is present in their device and firmware?
i have ke7 dbt (latest german stock rom).
My nexus one does the same thing. If I sync contacts with Facebook it changes to their Facebook displayed name. I'm still not clear on exactly how it does it too.
i tried several ways of bypassing the issue, starting by assuming the sorting of contacts would be determined by the regular ascii order of letters, or linux's, so i tried renaming every contact to minuscules, so R.B. -> r.b. which didn't help and i wouldn't even bother starting any contact with z or any symbol, as that would render the letter navigation bar on the right useless.
so the only way i could bypass the issue was to sort and display contacts by first name. after many years of windows mobile use i'm having trouble getting used to it but apparently, there is no other way so far.
if anyone else has trouble with this, please go to http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=6067 and star the issue and post your experiences.
I've been searching all over and can't seem to find a suitable app for this.
A family member has jumped from an endless parade of dumbphones to an Android based smartphone. Got all setup with a Google account and then I sat for about an hour or so manually entering names and numbers into Google Contacts, so they'll sync all nice and easily to the phone.
Now, no matter how I try to explain it, she doesn't quite get that if you open the contacts list on the phone and select a name, it presents you with all configured numbers, home, cell, work, etc, which you then just tap one to call.
No, she'd rather do extra work and create a separate contact, one for each possible number. "So that it looks like it used to...."
"Mr Contact One (home)"
555-555-5555
"Mr Contact One (cell)"
555-111-5555
"Mr Contact One (work"
555-222-5555
So, does anyone know of a contacts app that displays all numbers in an auto-expanded list? Sort of like...
"Mr Contact One"
\_555-555-5555 (home)
555-111-5555 (cell)
555-222-5555 (work)

Is there a way to not allow this to be done without uninstalling the TweetCaster app? I checked in the app's settings and I don't see any way to stop or not allow updates. I do have Google Play's settings at "Do not auto-update apps" - would this be sufficient? Or may Twitter go behind everyone's back and do this independently through their app and bypass Google Play? I do not want Twitter to be able to identify what apps I have or otherwise have access to my S4 to "target ads" to me.
Please note I Do Not have the Twitter app, I have TweetCaster (if it's different than the Twitter app? I don't know?) I heard facebook was doing this same BS & people deleted the app (I Do Not use FB) and am looking for a way to not allow Twitter to do this (if there is a way to). Thanks (I don't believe the last line below)

Twitter Plans to Peek at Your Apps to Serve You Targeted Ads
Twitter will soon identify the other apps on your phone in an effort to personalize your experience on its service—i.e. serve you targeted ads.
The company discusses the move on its website, and according to the news site Re/code, this sort of tracking will begin with a new version of its iPhone app, set to roll out on Wednesday. A new Android version that works in much the same way will roll out over the next week.
Now a public company, Twitter is exploring many different ways to boost its revenue, and one method is through better targeted ads. The company already has some personal information about those using its service—what they type into their Twitter profiles and the tweets they post—but now, it wants more. “To help build a more personal Twitter experience for you, we are collecting and occasionally updating the list of apps installed on your mobile device so we can deliver tailored content that you might be interested in,” the company says.
In this way, it’s following the lead of Facebook and Google and so many others that seek to target ads. The difference is that Twitter doesn’t have access to nearly as much personal data as Facebook, which inherently encourages users to provide information about themselves, or Google, which operates a wide range of services atop its own mobile OS. So Twitter is reaching out into other parts of the phone, something that is easy to do. The Apple/Google mobile OSes provide ready access to information like this & many apps take advantage of this—some going much further than others.
Twitter says it will point users to its new data policy, via an in-app notification, before it starts collecting any personal information. But the new update is opt-out, which means that in order for the company to stop gathering data on your account, you must explicitly turn this data collection off. But few users are likely to do so.

I think Tweetcaster is a third party application just like Falcon doesn't have anything to do with the default twitter app. .Or you can just see if that option is listed their within the Tweetcaster application to opt out of it.
Hi to all of you developers! First let me say that I am not a developer but am a long-time Android user. I was referred to this forum by a tech support professional who was unable solve my problem after many herculean efforts to do so. I'd really appreciate any help here.
I recently changed to from Verizon to AT&T as my carrier. I had an LG6 with Verizon but am now using a Samsung Galaxy S10e. All of my texts, including group chats (in Message+), were able to be transferred over. For this particular chat group I was the administrator. As soon as the transfer was completed, I noticed that this chat did not appear in the new phone. When I looked at the LG6, and opened up the group chat, a message at the bottom says "you are no longer a participant of this conversation". So this group chat not only didn't transfer to the new phone, I can't participate in the group on the old phone..and no longer am the Administrator. I installed the Message+ app on the new phone in the hopes it would reappear. Like it is on the old phone..but it doesn't.
My question is this: is there an app that can allow me to retrieve this group chat and it's history off the old phone and put it on the new phone? It's important because it contains important information on my mother who recently passed away. It was actually the only text I truly cared about. I know I can be re-added to the group but it will only include info from the time I'm added. I'd really like to see text history and current all there together if at all possible.
Can anyone help?

its been a while since my last visit to xda-developers , was actively lurking back then since o2-xda era .
Since i switch to iPhone , i havent visit this forum anymore. but today is the day, where i break my exclusivity with Apple environment and use my first android phone for almost a decade long. The beast that i pick is Note10+ and boy im happy with the purchase.
Since im still tied with apple environment, i need several guidance to sync several data, read in some article and it seems not working well for me. I hope the gurus here can help me.
1. contact sync
i need bidirectional sync across my mac, iphone and android,
Firstly i export my icloud contact in mac address book to vcard and import to gmail account in mac address book, stranngely there are like 900 missing contacts......
can someone help me with this issue?
Secondly, i already add gmail account to sync all across devices, contact created from iphone and android sync correctly, but my mac address book seems didnt sync at all.
Seems like the issue is in my mac address book, can anyone assist on this matter?
2. text replacement/autotext
Are there any 3rd party apps that i can use across mac, iphone and android?
3. im open to suggestion to any compulsory tweak recommendation/app
thanks in advance
