[Q] Display contacts in an auto expanded list. Is there an app? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've been searching all over and can't seem to find a suitable app for this.
A family member has jumped from an endless parade of dumbphones to an Android based smartphone. Got all setup with a Google account and then I sat for about an hour or so manually entering names and numbers into Google Contacts, so they'll sync all nice and easily to the phone.
Now, no matter how I try to explain it, she doesn't quite get that if you open the contacts list on the phone and select a name, it presents you with all configured numbers, home, cell, work, etc, which you then just tap one to call.
No, she'd rather do extra work and create a separate contact, one for each possible number. "So that it looks like it used to...."
"Mr Contact One (home)"
555-555-5555
"Mr Contact One (cell)"
555-111-5555
"Mr Contact One (work"
555-222-5555
So, does anyone know of a contacts app that displays all numbers in an auto-expanded list? Sort of like...
"Mr Contact One"
\_555-555-5555 (home)
555-111-5555 (cell)
555-222-5555 (work)

[Q] Disappearing contact

Not the end of the world, but I have a contact that keeps disappearing from my favourites on people tab.
It only disappears when ever Active Sync is syncing, though the contact is still listed, just disappears from the tab.
This has now happened on the last 2 or 3 ROMs I've used so that rules out a ROM issue.
Anyone have any ideas?
TIA
I have used search and can't find anyone else with the same issue
Not being funny, but as a senior member I'm sure you know how to start your own thread, so why hijack mine.
the info that tells sense it is a favorite (and Facebook links) is held in the notes field, so you could try setting it as fav, then edit the contact, scroll down to more (brings up the winmo contact screen) and copy out all the code,
example
<HTCData><!-- Please do not modify -->
<Favorite>actionid:CallMobile</Favorite>
<Facebook>id:51xxxx112/friendof:xxxx91731</Facebook>
</HTCData>
and manually put it in the notes field of your contact on the pc.if it solves it, it could be that your sync settings have been altered to update only from pc to phone, not both directions.
None of my contacts have anything like that.
Today they've all behaved themselves and not run off, will keep an eye on it
Normally your contact will have a Note information, like samsamuel mentioned before.
I know if I delete this info on one of my contact's, it will disappearing from my favourites on the people tab.
This info is needed.

[Q] people app

I added a new contact today (time warner) and I noticed that I had options to save the number as company main, car, radio, assistant as well as the usual home, work, etc..
When I go to edit an existing contact these new (to me anyhow) options are not there.
Is there a way to get them there?
I think it may be handy to be able to save company numbers in their own category and I already have quite a few saved as contacts
Looks like it depends on the type of contact that you save it as. Exchange provides all the options. Google has most and the phone even less. Least options is the SIM.
Where are you saving them to?
I just looked and the time warner contact says phone and some others say google. So I guess that explains it.
Thanks

[Q] Beginner questions about contacts

Hi,
firstly, let me introduce myself:
My name is Tony and from my signature and amount of posts, you can see, I am a very active XDA user and used to do a lot of first and second level support for the blueangel and the blackstone and today my SGS2 arrived, which is my first native android phone. As soon, as i figured out all the tiny beginner's questions, i will start supporting this awesome device for all you fellow users out there.
But for now, excuse me, that I have to ask a few stupid questions that I encountered while setting up the device:
1. My phone is set to English (US) and my keyboard and voice input options are set to German (so that writing or voice inputting sms and german addresses are easier). However, Vlingo does not exactly support the dual language and sometimes produces problems when reading out english information, anybody else experiencing mixed language problems there? any advice?
2. i decided to set my up contacts from scratch. i put in all the correct formal names for my contacts, but when i connect these users to their respective facebook accounts (who are sometimes based on nicknames), the display name automatically changes to the facebook name, while i prefer the formal name. is there a way to change it?
3. contacts allow me to add several im accounts, e.g. ICQ. when i click the icq# of a user, it opens up im and states that only windows live, google talk and yahoo are supported. is there a way to either connect that to the official icq for android, or add other messengers to the stock im? if not, why bother inputting all the information, if one cannot use it?
i wonder why nobody else seems to experience problem #2.
i found it again here: http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=6067
apparently, when you connect contacts through one or more platforms, like facebook, twitter, last.fm, skype... and there names vary, your contacts app will always prefer the last name with the latest letter in the alphabet. in my case, there is one contact first name r. last name b., but one facebook, he goes by another variation of his name, "zu b.", so contacts prefers the facebook name, as z is greater than b. there is no logical reason why facebook names should be preferred to the phone's own stored name. after all, i entered those names because i wanted to find the contacts by that name. why does the phone tell me, my choices are no good and facebook's are better?
strike issue #1 and #3, i will find a workaround some time, but it would be extremely nice, if someone could check if this contacts issue is present in their device and firmware?
i have ke7 dbt (latest german stock rom).
My nexus one does the same thing. If I sync contacts with Facebook it changes to their Facebook displayed name. I'm still not clear on exactly how it does it too.
i tried several ways of bypassing the issue, starting by assuming the sorting of contacts would be determined by the regular ascii order of letters, or linux's, so i tried renaming every contact to minuscules, so R.B. -> r.b. which didn't help and i wouldn't even bother starting any contact with z or any symbol, as that would render the letter navigation bar on the right useless.
so the only way i could bypass the issue was to sort and display contacts by first name. after many years of windows mobile use i'm having trouble getting used to it but apparently, there is no other way so far.
if anyone else has trouble with this, please go to http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=6067 and star the issue and post your experiences.

[Q] Navigate from Calendar no longer working

Not sure if this is the right place to post this, but Navigation from the Calendar used to work for me on 2.2, but not on 2.3.3. I have a Sprint Evo 4G, but I think it's the Calendar or Google Maps/Navigation that has changed. Repeating events used to work before, so it's not the way I've entered the addresses.
I used to be able to put the address in the notes section of a calendar appointment, open the appointment, click on the address, and Google Maps would pop up with the option to Navigate to it.
Now, it thinks it's a phone number and pops up an option screen to: Call, Send message, Add contact, or Save to existing contact. I can click on the Location field, which I usually put just the name of the place, and Google Maps will search for it that way, but often it returns several options, of which none are the one I want.
If it helps, when I click on the address, the phone number field shows, "geo:0,0?201+Main+Street... etc." How or why it thinks that is a phone number is beyond me, but is probably the clue to the solution.
While testing this, I found at least one address that did work as expected. That address also had a street number and street, but didn't have a zip code or a comma between the city and state. However, when I modified an address in another appointment to match, the phone still thought it was a phone number.
No ideas? Is there a better place to ask?
Last bump before I look for another place to ask.

On my new E4GT, this works like it did originally on my Evo.

[Q] Calendar issues

Im loving my Titan, especially the calendar sync with windows live, google etc.
I run a Driving School and use the calendar to set up appointments with my clients, add them as attendees and save. However, when the email is sent to the attendee to accept the details of time and location are sometimes wrong, even if I leave the location blank.
Its led to a few missed appointments. Can anyone test this feature and see if its a common problem.
also, is there a way to change the "Im running late" feature to include a text message, rather than relying on people checking their emails?
Jonny
Not exactly clear what you mean. But calender events are sensitive to timezones. Make sure all pcs and phones involved have the accurate timezone settings.

What I mean is, I arrange an appointment with one of my clients and set it up on my phone. I generally don't add a location, as it is usually at their house, unless we have arranged a different place, then i will include that.
I then use the "add someone" button, select the persons email address to send the calendar .ics file for them to accept.
I have had reports from some of my clients who, when they open the file has had different times than i had originally set up.
Like I said, it is related to the time zone settings. Most ppl don't care to set their PC's time zone (default is PST/PDT). And if you're in a different time zone than that, the time will be different for you and your client. Let's say if you setup a meeting at 4pm EST and your client is setup(or rather didn't care to setup) to use PST on their PC. That meeting will show up as 1pm PST on their side. Since they didn't setup the correct time zone but rather adjusted the clock, they will see the meeting is at 1pm instead of 4pm you intended.
The bottom line is unless you can be sure both you and your clients all have setup time zone correctly, using this kind of meeting invites are prone to cause problems.
