[Q] Phone reboots when connected to Chromecast - AT&T HTC One (M7)

I'm not sure what is at fault here (app, OS, etc) but I can reliably get my phone to reboot when it's connected to my Chromecast. It's a stock AT&T HTC One with the recent 4.3 update. When using Play Music connected to Chromecast, if I close the app (but not exit, it's still running) and then use the volume buttons, my phone will restart. Anyone have anything similar happen to them or can try to reproduce this with their phone and Chromecast? I'm not positive I ever performed these exact steps before upgrading to 4.3, but I know it never happened before upgrading to 4.3.

I recently swapped from ViperOne to the Stock 4.3 just to play around with it. I can confirm I have the same problem.

Similar issue with movies
I have a similar issue. Pressing either volume button while casting a movie will cause a reset on my T-Mobile HTC One running 4.3. It doesn't seem to be an issue on my wife's One which is still running 4.1.

This is when casting a movie with Play Movies, right? I can reproduce this on my phone too; everything seems to work fine with Netflix though.

Bad news! I just ordered a Chromecast, let's hope I don't have any problem like above..
Does this happen when using YouTube app? what about Nexus 7?

yeap!!, I have the same problem, I hope HTC or google release an update for this issue....

[Q] Play Store App Demo Videos Don't Play

On my Nexus 9, in the Google Play Store, when I try to watch the demo video for any app, it will only play about 1 second of the video. Anyone else have this problem? Please reply either way. I would like to know if its working for anyone else.
Thanks!
Same for me. I first thought it was WiFi sucking, but its too consistent, its a bug on n9, works fine on my nexus 5.
Thanks. I thought the same thing and I have also tested on the same WiFi with my Nexus 5, both running Android 5.0.1 and it works on Nexus 5. Anyone know if this has been reported?
Ditto. Nexus 7 on Lollipop. Same issue. Tried all the normal debugging methods with the play store and video players.

Ditto on Nexus 9 here also.
I have the issue on my Shield Tablet running 5.0.1
I went into the developer options and unticked use Nuplayer, rebooted, that got it working for a while before it stopped again.
Ticking and unticking that box now has no effect.
Nexus 9 on 5.0.1
I see I am not the only one that has this issue. I did notice that if you hit the settings icon lower right corner of the screen. You have an option to select quality which doesn't seem to stick. But it also has a youtube link that if you tap, takes you to the youtube app and plays the video just fine through the youtube app itself.
Also when listening to music through the google play music app, when it has an option to play the music video, the same thing happens .
I have tried messing with the NuPlayer and AwesomePlayer, rebooting etc. and can only get 1 video to play before its back to not playing again.
I saw that a similar issue was reported to google where no videos could be played but this seems different? Can anyone confirm if its the same or different? and/or if google is working on a fix?
Exact same issue here on Nexus 9. Videos play for about half a second then stop. This happens in Google Play store previews, and Google Music videos. I have tried everything, including restarts, clearing cache, deleting/reinstalling all related apps, adjusting Nuplayer setting, and even factory reset. My Nexus 5 has no problems, so it's clearly a Nexus 9 bug. I tried contacting Google and they gave me the typical 'turn your tablet off by holding the power button for a whooooole 2 seconds....' response. I'm a long time Nexus fan, but I do get tired of these bugs.
Anyone found a solution?
It's not just a Nexus 9 problem, I'd already posted it doesn't work on my Shield tablet and I upgraded my old N7 2012 to 5.0.2 yesterday and it doesn't work on that either.
I don't think there is any solution sadly.
Just uninstall latest youtube update from playstore and it will work fine again.
Stupid google didn't fix this issue yet.
Wow, uninstalling youtube updates actually did work! Thanks!
Worked for me too, thank you
Yup Really puzzles me why google didn't fix this yet.
My back cover was also flexing a bit around middle and upper right (when looking from the back side). That was a pretty easy fix. Now its solid as a rock. If anyone has that problem I could upload a fix on youtube.
Besides above problems, I absolutely love this device.. Imo it's hand down the best android tablet to date, despite these flaws.
If you upgrade to YouTube v10, this will also fox the problem.
If you don't see the update in the Play Store you can download it from APK Mirror.

Yes, I can confirm this. Installed latest YouTube update from the Play Store (10.03), now demo videos play fine.

Volume Keys Stops Video playback

Hi guys,
I had this problem with my z1 which was hard bricked. But I have this now on my z2 and it drives me crazy.
Whenever I try to volume down when I watch a video or playing a game or on many apks, it stops the video. It's obviously caused by an apk but I don't know which one. I'm in safe mode now. I played a video on YouTube apk and the problem is gone. I factory resetted my phone two days ago. I'm on 5.1.1.
Do you have any idea what the issue could be?
New update on problem:
I thought it was about the hardware keys. No it's not. I installed notification volume control bar on my z2. Same problem keeps happening. I'm pretty sure it's a software related. Probably one coming with 3rd party. Everything is smooth in safe mode. I don't know which one causes it and I have no idea how to find it.
It's for sure software, as I never had this problem. Try freezing all apps that you think may do this (or maybe even all apps) and after checking if it's fine defreeze few apps every time and repeat this procedure. It takes some time, but it will help you find the app that is responsible for that.
PS. Don't forget to manually launch the apps after defreezing them.

I uninstalled a few media playing apps today. Then I restarted the phone. So far so good. ES Explorer, MX Player are the ones uninstalled.
Mx player doesn't cause this problem for me.

Then it should be ES Explorer. I haven't reinstalled either of them. I missed the peace of mind while playing media and games

Music and video problems with LG G Stylo (Boost)

I've been having a problem since I got my LG G Stylo from Boost. When watching videos and listening to music using any app capable of doing so, the video or music will pause itself randomly and after a bit it will start playing again or it will play after I manually un-pause it. I'm not sure what's causing it. I know some newer and more expensive phones have features that will pause video if the phone detects that you aren't looking at it but these features usually apply to video, not music and even at that my phone doesn't seem to have that feature as I cannot locate a setting control for it. This happens in any app that can play video including videos played in Chrome and it happens in any app that is capable of music playback, which the only two I have are the native music app and Google Play Music. I've read on the internet that it could be caused by another app on my phone but I don't have any apps capable of doing this. I've also read that this can happen when switching networks but my phone is on WiFi most of the time and only switches to 4G when leaving the house which isn't that often. I don't see any reason why this would be happening. I've never had this problem with any other phone and I don't really have any apps on this phone that I didn't have on my last phone. Note that this is my first phone running Lollipop (5.1.1) and I'm starting to think that Android itself is the culprit but I'm not sure. I recently rooted my phone but the problem existed before that and I had the phone for over a month before I attempted root. This is really annoying and I'd like to be able to fix it so anything helps, thanks.
yeah
Resolved the issue. It was Telegram 3.5.1 that caused the problem. I'm on 3.6.1 Now and the issue has gone.

Thor on CM11 issue with video playback (Netflix, Youtube)

When I attempt to play video on different services it will pause or kick back to the selection screen. When I'm on Youtube it will merely pause and on Netflix it kicks back to the selections. I know there isn't an issue with the tablet because when I boot into stock OS Netflix works fine. I attempted to install Nexus but it wouldn't work with wifi even when I had it in RomSlot-1.
I also tried to use the xposed framework with the Netflix fix but it didn't work.
Has anyone else had this issue or found a fix?
Edit: I wiped and flashed stock slot with Nexus and it is still occurring. This is a huge function that I need on this tablet as the stock OS is so limiting. It was too hard for my mother to use so I gave her my iPad and I took this as a courtesy to her. Can't go back now!

Android Auto compatibility?

Has someone with a Mate 10 tried to run Android Auto? I'm still rocking a Mate 8, still a very good phone but with one major annoyance : not working with Android Auto. Very eager to find out if this issue has been resolved.

Actually..... was fine yesterday but I have had a few weird issues today (have only had the device 72hrs)
- Lost music playback during a drive this morning.. can still hear nav instructions and phone calls etc, just silence during what appears to be playing music.
- The map screen has shrunk.. its like a totally different dpi to the other screens and appears fairly high res. Good because of the extra screen estate, but is now difficult to read text.
I'm going to try again tomorrow and will reset the head-unit and reinstall AA if it continues.
There is also a fair bit of complaints going on at the google product forums so maybe Oreo still needs some bugs worked out ?

It's strange. Sony XAV AX-100 & Mate 10 ALP-L29 .115
I find if I'm connected to the headunit first via BT and streaming music, it is fine. GPS directions and calls etc work as expected.
If I plug in via USB and let Android Auto takeover the headunit, it will continue only playing the one currently playing song, and the all other music is unable to play. I still get audio for directions & calls though.
What I think is happening, is Android Auto is trying to play music via USB connection and disables the "media" part of the BT paring.
For whatever reason, Google Play music doesn't come through via USB.
After a bit of research it appears this is a widespread problem with multiple devices after a recent AA & Google Play music update.. so I'm hesitant to blame Huawei here.
My current workaround is simply to use Android Auto on the phone and paired via BT for audio, rather than plugged in via USB.
Very very annoying, and hopefully fixed soon. Google seem to be dropping the ball A LOT lately
Very strange indeed...hope these bugs get ironed out soon. One of the main reasons to upgrade is to have AA working on my head unit so I guess I'll just wait until this works like it should.

Just a quick fyi.. I have cancelled my Google Play Music and switched over to Spotify instead, which is working great and I have no other issues while plugged in via USB
I still get the higher dpi on the maps screen, and am finding it's actually preferable now I've used it for a few days.
Another small fyi for those experiencing issues, after a whole bunch of testing it appears the 'Smart Display" resolution setting is casusing the Nav Maps screen to be distorted, and the On-Call Phone screen to be hidden.
Locking resolution to HD / 720 will allow Maps and Phone screens to function as expected.
Still haven't figured out the GPM no-audio bug even after yesterdays playstore update.
I'm having issues on my mate 8 NXT-AL10.
Navigating - Works on fresh install of Android Auto, but then with Waze installed, next time I get in the car and go to navigation the system freezes, goes black, and then returns to the home screen. This has gone on far too long, and this is also my 2nd and last Huawei phone. Unimpressed.
Music/Audio - Every app I go on within android auto (on my head unit) is giving the "Google play music doesn't seem to be working right now" or insert other app name. It's mightily frustrating.
I've found workarounds for both but they're by no means fullproof.
1) Using Nova Launcher seems to keep Waze working for longer without having to reinstall the android auto app.
2) Apparently clearing the cache of your apps can help solve the audio issues, as well as restarting Bluetooth.
Google/Huawei really need to get their act together on this. It's really frustrating to spend so much money on a phone and a new car only to find out the systems you bought them for don't work.

Oh, and also, when typing - for inserting a destination into a navigation app on Huawei, I've found there's no space-bar.
The only workaround so far I've found is type it natively on app in phone, save the destination as a favourite, and access it on android auto from the favourites list. Again, small, but painful.
You going to hate android auto belive me.

I upgrade my Oneplus 3 to Mate 10 and having the same Google Map resolution too high problem.
I turn off Smart Display and lock the resolution to HD (720p) as instructed from this post, the navigation of android auto back to normal but the quality of the screen of the Mate 10 itself look like a budget phone.
I will try to update the firmware of my SONY XAV-AX100 if it would help.
Oh great. I really wish i found this thread before pulling the trigger on a Sony XAV-AX100 I expect it to arrive sometime next week but it wont be installed in my car until the new year sometime. Nonetheless, I will try some basic tests with Android Auto and report my findings. These tests won't involve sound though. No speakers laying around to connect to the headunit. I have a Mate 10 Pro, firmware 8.0.0.125
Updating the firmware of the XAV-AX100 unit does not help. I think it is the problem of Huawei Firmware. I hope they can fix the problem soon.
I just bought my Mate 10 last week. Finally got a chance to use AA, and after reading all the helpful information from this thread, I changed my phone resolution down to HD (low). I have a brand new car and brand new expensive flagship phone, and now you are telling me Huawei doesn't work well with AA. I really dont want to use an expensive phone with HD low resolution. Is there a way to let Huawai fix it?
I was also wondering if we could update the firmware of the screen of our car? I have a 2016 honda accord ex-L...

I think we have to wait for the firmware update of the phone instead of the firmware of head unit. I am current running 8.0.0.119(C636) (which have the AA bugs) and hope that the new 8.0.0.128(C636) I found in Firmware Finder will have the problem fixed. However, the new firmware is not authorise to install on my mate 10 yet.

Sorry for bringing this topic again, but these are exactly my problem and exactly my thoughts.
I have a Mate 9 Pro with Oreo beta and even when I don't have problems with maps or screen, I can only hear 1 song and then the audio stops working, and even when I unplugged the phone, the device remains with no audio at all until I reboot the device.
I tried to test with a P10 Lite, but the car is not even recognizing it.
I will try today with an Android Stock device to see if I get better results.

Do you get correct resolution on your car screen with AA? I can get correct resolution by using HD 1280 x 720 only, which is low resolution.
I tried to use Quick Shortcut Maker to create a shortcut so everytime I need to use GPS, I will toggle it on. However, Quick Shortcut Maker doesn't work on my Mate 10, and I dont' see any new shortcut created on my home screen.
I tried Nova Launcher, again, no hope. Nova Launcher tells me "Permission Denial" when I created the shortcut for "Screen Resolution". Also, after insatlled Nova, my Torch (flashlight) no longer working anymore.
I am thinking to return this crappy mate 10, it's not worth it to spend so much time to do research on all these bugs for Huawei software engineer....

Ok. I have received the Sony head unit and had it installed on friday night and...........
I am having similar experiences to Snachez with some exceptions.
No sound in Google Play Music. Which I am very pissed off with. Sure, I could cancel Google Music, but I have a family account with multiple users. So that's not really an option. I have no choice but to take up a Spotify subscription as well as GPM. I truly believe this is an issue with the GPM app or AA and is not Huawei's fault. Goddamn you Google. (EDIT: Just scored 3 months of Spotify for $0.99. If Google can get there **** sorted by the end of March with the Music app, it won't be so bad)
Maps are fine. don't matter what resolution i run the phone at. Sadly this is probably the only part of AA that has worked as expected.
Phone call information does not display on my headunit. at all. I have a dialer / contacts info but that's it. It doesn't matter if i switch the phone between 720 or 1080p. phone call info does NOT come up on the headunit. Do i have to reboot the phone between resolution switches? Because I didn't try that.

Saying I hate it would be a bit strong. More unimpressed than anything else. Unless I need to use Google Maps, or charge my phone. This headunit is going to spend more time in BT Audio mode than AA
I have got phone functionality (call info, etc) to work in AA. But to do so I have to force close the Huawei dialler each and every single time before connecting the phone to the headunit.
[email protected] me, what an absolute pain in the arse. How did Google and/or Huawei not notice this???
On the upside though, it works when the phone's resolution is set to 1080p. what a relief because changing it to 720p everytime i want to use AA would just suck.
To all the folks that say phone / maps doin't work properly in 1080p. have you tried enabling Developer Options in AA and experimenting with some of the settings?
