Added a working version for PA!

Thought I'd go ahead and ask before trying it out later tonight: will the 4.3 version work for 4.3.1 AOSP ROMs?

Of course
If it doesn't. Please let me know.
I will update if requested by anyone.

Working just fine! Two quick things I noticed:
1) Smilie button to the left of the text input box (in a conversation) can barely be seen because of the black background. (This may only be visible when Emojis are enabled. Have not checked.) [Edit: It's the "Quick emoji button" that can be toggled from Settings.]
2) In Settings, text (and MMS) message limit counter screen -- cannot see the number I typed in, as it is white text on white background.
Neither of these issues are show stoppers. And MMS seems to be working even though there's no user-agent spoof setting.
Thanks!

That's on the 4.3 version? PA or regular?
Can you grab the screenshots please? I don't have 4.3 right now. I blindly themed it anything helps!

Ha, I went back to the default Messaging app in LiquidSmooth ROM for now as I was testing something out with MMS. Don't have yours installed at the moment. Out of town tomorrow, but if I have time on Sunday I'll reinstall and take the screenshots. Rookie mistake not screenshotting it before flashing something. My bad!

So what version did you use? The only one I know that has a mishap is the 4.1 version. Since I made it a long time ago!
I use 4.2 which is perfect. The reports on 4.3 said it was perfect? So just info on which version would be most helpful.

I was using the regular AOSP 4.3 version. Functionally, it seemed perfect. Just those two visual hiccups is all.

Is this compatible with the new KitKat Roms?

The stock version is. It's likely the others are as well. I'll be working on a kit kat version soon.

If you want this use jellybeans rom and choose the aosp mms app when installing and you will have emoji support
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2032447
And his version 6 has all the jelly bean features working

I think its stock themed, its actually just an emoji keyboard and system fonts. Works out of the box on beans, and if I'm not mistaken this phone already has the necessary system fonts

Ya stock out of the box emojis don't work and when u add the font they are black and white. Bean had included the working emoji for the mms app and it works for sending and viewing from within the app. It's a setting that has to be enabled from within the mms app settings

Jelly Beans + PA Email ?

I am running Jelly Beans ROM v7. I love it, except the stock email app is awful. Is it possible to get the same version that comes with the Paranoid Android ROM into the Jelly Beans ROM?
Thanks!

not familiar with the app, but is it a different app or just a different resolution?
I think it is a samsung "improved" version that I dont like. The PA version can have much smaller font sizes and just looks much cleaner.

Why not change the font size in the settings of the app?
Changing the font within the default email app or within the global phone settings has no effect on the default mail app.
I should also mention that I don't like the default mail app. What I am looking to do is replace it with the email app that is included with the PA ROM.
Thanks

The PA email app is just the AOSP email forced into phone or tablet mode (whichever you choose in PA settings).
Here is a link to a thread I found in the Apps Section. I haven't tried this method since I prefer the TW email:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2086298
Due to the DPI this will load in phone mode. If you want to change the DPI of just the email app, try Xposed or something similar. The Xposed information can be found in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2065644
This worked for the most part. I really appreciate you pointing me in the right direction. I now have Jelly Beans and the AOSP email app. However, it is not giving me the 2 column view in portrait or landscape. Any ideas?
I used this app to change my DPI: http://www.xda-developers.com/android/custom-dpi-without-upsetting-google-play/

[Q] aosp messaging

so i've searched around the att lgog, nexus 4, and the canada/intl lgog forums and cant seem to find anything about an aosp with emoji support for mms. i've found a dark themed mms app and was able to flash it but it doesnt support emojis, and the 4.1.2 stock doesnt have it and renames the mms app from lgmms3.apk to messagebin.apk so i cant get other aosp mms apps to work either. anyone have a compatible app flashable or apk that will work on 4.1.2 and give me emojis? i'm really loving the 4.1.2 rom and dont wanna switch to something else at the moment

Try this.
I had a working one, I believe it was this one. (not sure, I had followed an external link for mine, somebody posted it outside of XDA).
Worked fine, but I missed some of the stuff from the LG stock app.
Actually, if you are on JB, try THIS one, it is for JB and has more features.
I haven't used this one, but it is by the same user... so it should work.

[APP] AOSP SMS/MMS for Touchwiz-ROMs (MF2)

Hi guys,
Finally the AOSP Messaging app for our Note!
Thanks to @loserskater I modded the needed files for the Note 2, see this thread for further info.
Just flash in CWM and enjoy, but READ first!
- All SMS messages will be deleted while installing this mod, so DO A BACKUP of your messages!
- SecMms.apk (the Samsungs one) will be deleted too!
- I used standard 4.1.2 Mms.apk from a stable AOKP build. Emoji support, but no popup. If you want, you can install any other Mms.apk from CM/AOKP you like, but first you must flash this package for sure.
- There is one bug: Contacts.apk crashes if you touch your own avatar/picture in conversation view. This is with all CM/AOKP Mms.apk's, not only with the one I provided here.
- My base is WanamLite 3.8 ROM (MF2). I'll take no guarantee that this mod works with other/older/newer ROMs, so do a Nandroid backup before, just in case!
- No, I don't have and don't want a dark theme, please search or theme yourself.
- One more thing: enjoy!
This app is soo much faster than the sh*tty TW-Messaging app, just a breeze. Plus it doesn't have a database limit for messages such like the TW one.
Note: The screenshot is 270dpi.
Has anyone else had problems with mms
After install force close when receiving mms took a couple hors to figure out because the pic didnt even show up in thread
Sender finally asked if I had gotten it

In the thread i linked in OP, someone mentions problems, yes. Seems we can't do anything for those 10% it doesn't work
Can someone post the stock sms/mms app from samsung please? I installed the aosp sms app, and I don't really like it, and I want to change back to stock. Thank you in advance!
Will this work on MG1?

Thanks sorry didn't see that issue

hello to all. for me it works, except for mms ... can not send pictures ... may not be fully compatible ... someone has a version 4.1.2 AOSP consistent in mg1? thank you

CyanogenMod Messaging App Theme?

XT912 - CM 10.1.3
CM has the all-white message threads. Is there anyway to easily make small changes to it (such as have the threads simply be a different color for sent/received) or a theme that accomplishes this without being too dramtic and completely changing everything else on the phone?
I know I can install a third-party app, but I'd rather not go that route.
The dark theme doesn't work for me. I check it in settings and nothing. Is that working for you? That has been the case with several different nightly loads for me. CM 11 now.

What's the name of the .apk for the stock messaging app? I can't find it. I want to replace it with Textra.
