Hey guys, im a regular over on the htc forums but not very used to samsungs and was wondering if i could get some clarification
Got this tablet from a friend to repair if i could. the tablet was in possession of my friends mother who is 60+ and careful with her tech. never drops it, always charges it on time. then device was never flashed or rooted in any way. It was handed to me already in apx mode and the back story was simply it wouldnt turn on any more. i asked if it was powered off while updating, or fully discharged or anything but was told no. it was just placed onto the charge when she went to bed and was non functional in the morning. as stated the device is in apx mode, i looked into it and the bootloader is locked so NVFlash is non functional. i have been trying the battery drain method but ive had the power button taped down for 3-4 days now with an otg cable plugged in and other stuff like pen drives etc connected to it to try drain the power to no avail. i got impatient and i tried the disconnect and reconnect the battery method (as the op stated that the battery drain and the battery pull method should have the same effect), but to no avail.
Im beginning to think that its seen its last days as the battery pull method has consistently failed, and i cannot seem to find a j-tag method anywhere.
so, am i correct in thinking that its just spare parts now? device has been OOW for quite a while now and given that the battery was fully charged prior to me obtaining it, it could take weeks to discharge.
If anyone with experience on this issue could chip in that would be great! cheers!

My P7510 is acting like it is bricked. It will not start. I tried the power button and volume combination and nothing works. I connect to my Windows 8 PC only see it in Device manager as "Other Device" as a APX without the drivers loaded. I have charged the device for hours on two different chargers.
It had 50% charge when my nephew was playing Angry Bird and he returned it in what I thought was just sleep mode. I tried turning it on 4 hours after I got it back and it would not come on. I figured the battery was dead so I charged it but to no avail.
It is not rooted and has the stock 4.0.4 Android version.
I cannot ask my nephew what he did because he is autistic and would be scared to deaf it he though he broke my tablet.
Any help is appreciated.

I think the reason nobody has replied because it looks like you did your homework and tried everything that would have been suggested. Unfortunately the battery disconnect is the last resort if it's not hardware. If it was software issues the battery disconnect should have worked AFAIK.
I had to send mine (GT-P7510) in for repair when it went into apx mode. Fortunately for me it was under warranty.
Just a thought, but have you left the battery disconnected for a day or more? Wondering if the tab is holding a charge some way with the battery not connected. Maybe connect something with the battery disconnected to drain all possible remaining charge from the tab. For a day or more even. I've seen stranger things happen even a few who where they said it just started working out of the blue. Not likely to help but might be worth a try.
EDIT-Just had another thought I remember one tab I fixed that was stuck in apx mode and removing the battery didn't help. I diconnected the battery and plugged into the charger held the power button and it booted. I let it do a full start before connecting the battery.
Can't remember for sure, but I may have held power+volume down. Could be worth a shot.

Hey there,
I have my Vibrant for a good year now since it came out pretty much. Last week it just stopped charging out the blue. The battery is completely empty and shows a thermometer with a warning sign and stops charging seconds after its plugged in. So I assumed it might be a battery malfunction and I got my spare battery in as soon as I came home and tried charging - same problem. I think it is highly unlikely that both batteries fail at the same time. Therefore, I assume there is something wrong with the temp sensor in the phone. I saw a few people have a similar problem with the epic 4G, but the discussion got really side tracked by other issues. My phone is rooted, but I was running stock froyo, so that shouldn't be the problem or should it?
I just wanna know if anybody had the same problems and if there is a quick solution, I google and forum searched a while but as soon as you throw in the term battery it gets spammed with battery life discussions.I just checked my files I have on the phone, apparently I have the premium insurance - does that mean I just can go to the next Tmo store and get a replacement? Any feedback is greatly appreciated.
Phill
Well for your problem, i suggest you try a different rom and see if the problem persists... maybe its a bug
And as for insurance, you mail the phone in and pay a deductible, which should be like 135$ or so. They send you a refurb.. or if you say it wus lost, you dont have to mail in phone

thanks for the quick reply. Is there a way to reflash without a battery?
I don't see it as a bad thing. If your phone gets too hot and keeps charging that's going to burn something inside. When my phone won't charge I know I have let it down. So it can cool down. But to fix your problem reboot the phone. You can keep charging it after it boots up

As long as your phone can run successfully for a couple minutes, i dont see why not
Sent from a cell tower to the XDA server to you.
Mine did something similar. I picked it up after putting it on the charger. It was hot and would not come on. I unplugged it and let it cool off for a while and it cleared up.
I got that message once...
Vibrant was in a car dock, with power.
It was *HOT* out and sun was hitting the back of the unit. (A/C on of course)
Google Navigation was running (display brightness max)
Google Listen was running
Bluetooth was passing music to a speakerphone
When I run the phone with that setup, the charger can't even keep up with the phone power needs. The battery level slowly drops. No question the phone is working hard.
This was a true heat issue... I removed the charger and turned off the display to let it cool off a bit. (I was almost home).
So the question again, is your phone hot or is it a false reading?
Robert
Hey,
I am sorry I didn't clarify the actual battery temp. It is normal - so its neither in the sun or in a too cold spot when I try charging it. The phone probably runs for one for a few seconds before turning off so there is no chance of the battery stats wipe. I think I will try to find an external charger and try to charge the batteries this way to have enough juice for flashing a new rom. Thanks for all the replies!
Does it charge the battery with the phone off? If not, I don't think a new ROM will help.
Hey there! Wondering if you got around to solving this. I've got a Vibrant doing the same exact thing. Battery being cool it sais that is overheating. Did changing the ROM solved it or not?

Sorry for resurrecting an old thread, but a resolution never seemed to be made here. Has anybody found a fix to this?
As of yesterday, my wife is having the same issue with my old Vibrant phone which she now uses. It's flashed with Bionix V 1.3.1 and Tigerblood overclock to 1.2ghz. This could be the issue, the Tiger Blood overclock, but I'm not sure. I'm out of the country for three weeks and currently she's left with a dud of a phone that keeps giving her the temperature warning in the triangle when plugged in while the phone is powered off followed by it stop charging. When she turns it on, she gets to the SD card check and then the phone completely freezes. Once in a while it's able to stay on for a minute or so before freezing, but more often than not the phone does not fully turn on and just goes frozen after a few seconds, sometimes at the Tigerblood logon screen before making it to the desktop. Me being 4000 miles away doesn't make it easier to help her but I've recommended she leave the phone unplugged, battery out for the night to see what happens. I also told her to take off her silicon case thinking maybe that has something to do with the overheating. Well after 7 hours of her letting it sit to cool off like that, with the case off, she plugged it back in and is having the same issues as yesterday. Absolutely no progress made. One of her colleagues said she should try leaving the phone in rice confused:) so she's giving that a go and another guy in a phone shop who she went to for advice after work said that the motherboard might need replacing. I'm convinced all it needs is to have the Tigerblood removed or reflash a rom onto it but there's really no knowing unless I have it in my hand.
Is there any quick fix to this problem without having to do all that? Surely there must be a way to charge the phone without it heating up and freezing up. She's tried plugging it into different rooms, on her laptop, etc, none seem to get rid of the temperature problem. I've had the phone since August 2010 and never had any issues with it. I also never once saw that temperature error message so was taken aback when she showed me it over skype. I just upgraded to the S3 and gave her the phone 2 weeks ago, but surely it shouldn't just die out just like that? Thought the Vibrants were made tougher than that?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Much thanks in advance
Its most probably a kernel issue or a bug in the rom; so the only way to find out is to flash another kernel/rom..

Will be looking into reflashing another kernel/rom when I get home in a few weeks time, but it must be noted that the phone has been showing no signs of life for the last few days now. After letting it sit out for 7 hours on the first night, battery out and everything, she went to plug it in the following morning and this time absolutely no notification came up. Not even a lighting up of the phone or anything. No signs of life at all. Every time she hit the power button nothing occurred. The phone still heats up and after a few minutes while plugged in and gets very hot to the touch again but no matter how many times she attempts to turn it on, nothing happens.. She's tried plugging it into her computer via usb, into electric sockets in other rooms, even in the bathroom in one of the 115 volt electric shaver outlets in the bathroom (we live in the UK currently), and none of these ideas worked. Still no signs of life. It has been this way for three days now and is frustrating as I can offer no advice to her to get the phone to turn on anymore.
What on earth can be the problem? Has this happened to anyone before? And is there a fix to this or can we consider the phone to be a paperweight at this point?

Some kernels require a certain amount of power to fully boot the phone up and will not charge until it has 5% battery or so. I personally think her battery may be unable to hold a charge or like I said before it doesn't have enough juice to boot the phone because of the kernel. There is a way to charge the battery with the phone off. You can use ANY kind of usb cord, I used an old printer usb cable when I had to do this. All you do is cut off the side that is not usb and strip the positive and negative wires(red and black), then place the stripped wires on the positive and negative connectors on the back of the phone and insert the battery (make sure it's a snug fit). Plug the usb end into your pc and charge the battery that way, DO NOT let charge for over 2 minutes at a time. Wait five minutes and do it again if you have to. If she gets it to boot up, I would definitely flash a new kernel first to see if thats how the problem originated.

So I had bought this phone off ebay and when I got it today I tried to turn it on, but nothing happened.
I then plugged the phone in and tried powering it on and still nothing. I tried charging the battery and left it alone for an hour and afterwards the result is the same. Basically when I plug in the phone to the charger, the phone's screen will flash a battery icon as if its going to charge for a split second and then go blank. And then it will flash the battery icon again and then go blank again and it will go on like this for a couple of minutes until the screen finally stays blank.
So as I said even though I leave the phone to charge for a while, it still won't turn on and the only result seems to be that the phone gets warm near the camera. Also I tried to see if download mode works and pressed both volume buttons and I get a brief flash of some words. After doing it for several times I saw it said 'Low battery, cannot download' all in red.
I searched the forum and tried leaving the battery out for a while and also putting it in the fridge to see if anything would happen but nothing. So can anyone help? Is it just the battery?
Could be the battery - if you are on good terms with a local ATT store, try going there and asking if you can borrow a battery from their demo device to see if yours will power up. That's the best cheap way I can think of to rule that out.
Other possibility is a bad USB port. My first device developed a failure at about 2 months - I'm actually on day 5 with my warranty replacement. There is another member here, Moustro I think, who also may have a bad USB port. He and I were wondering if perhaps there was a bad batch out there. I'm not sure what ATT's warranty policy is for items re-sold on eBay, but might be worth checking out...
yeah that does sound like it could be the battery boot loop, take some photos of the battery to see if it is the oem... if it is the oem try a stand alone chager

I live in Canada don't think I'd get much help from AT&T probably.
Also the battery is the original one and not a replacement. I left it unplugged for a few hours and just now plugged it back in and its the same battery icon flashing for a couple of minutes and then blank screen. No charging whatsoever. I tried different outlets and different USB ports on my notebook and its all the same.
I also have an Infuse and charging for that every by every method is just fine so its my SII that's messed up.
If it's any condolence to you, I just bought a brand new GS2 from the ATT store today. The battery was semi-charged when I got it, and when it ran out, I plugged it in and got the same thing you did. Battery is flashing, cannot power it on, even plugged in. I also got the red "Low battery, cannot download".
I spent the better part of 4 hours reloading my apps and email addys, and everything else to get my phone up and running, and now this.
I am going back to the ATT store tomorrow and requesting a different brand new one.
This is my 2nd GS2, because I destroyed my first one in an accident.
Just as dandrumheller was saying. I had simimiar issues where the phone battery would blink on and off even if the charger was plugged in or not while the phone was powered off. The only way I could get my phone to boot to prepare it for warranty exchange was to flash a rom through Odin. But if you can't get it into download mode this wouldn't work.
My suggestion would be to use a different battery. That would let you know if its a hardware issue or bad battery.
hmm...
I was able to to get it to power on last night with what little battery was left. I then plugged it into the USB of my Mac, rather than the charging wart. When I awoke this AM, I have a fully charged battery, and a working phone. I will let the battery run out again completely today and see what happens.
That's great news! I hope it continues to work for you
I would not let it completely run out. Our batteries don't like that. Don't go below 25 percent. I'm glad you got it working. I know you're relieved.

I'm not sure relieved is the right word.
Apprehensive might be better.
We all know AT&T isn't in the best graces with most.
They must be the ***** of Comcast.
Anybody got anymore suggestions?? Can't get it to work no matter what I try.
Call samsung and see if they will honor the warranty? Don't know their rules, but in another thread someone suggested that sale of the phone does not void the warranty.

Were you able to find a fix for your problem? i bought a SGII from ebay and is presenting the same issue
For what its worth I am able to enter download with NO battery. In fact I ONLY do it without a battery. I just hold both volume buttons and plug in the USB to my computer while not pressing anything else. Without battery.
Thought the OP said he couldn't enter download.... so if that doesn't throw it in download it's more than just battery.

Guys,
I tried this and it worked...
At a last resort, i put the battery on nexus to see if it will charge and DAMN !! it did,, so the battery was not the issue...so i grab a swab with little alcohol then clean the terminals on the battery and the spring connectors on the phone... and voila !!! started charging and keeps working perfectly.
It worked for me, hopefully it will work for you guys.
Glad you were able to isolate the problem.

Same problem
Flashing on for a sec then flashing off, buttons flashed too. Phone got hot around the battery. Couldn't have described the problem better
Took some alcohol, cleaned the contacts for the USB connector, cleaned the battery contacts, and booyah, got the charging symbol again! Problem was, I didn't use the phone for a month, it rode around in the front pocket of my laptop bag, and apparently got the contacts dirty. A little toothpick and q-tip fun later, and my phone started charging again. Thanks -

Really? I've had mostly HTC phones and we could run them down pretty low.. I've been running mine down past 10 and it's been fine.. stock battery.
I had the same problem as op. My last resort was to cut the micro usb end of a spare cable and connected it to the (+) and (-) on the phone itself. since the phone booted up, i knew it was the battery. Next, i did the same thing but (+) and (-) on the battery itself while connected to a computer. i held it in place for about 10 seconds. put the battery back in the phone and it started charging again. im sure it wasnt the safeat thing to do, but it worked. Maybe the dead battery needed some kind of jump.
btw. The wires you would be using are the the black and red. and i got this idea from

I believe these are different types of batteries. Not Lithium, but something else. I bought some spare batteries from eBay and the batteries had the same instructions... That it is not good to let them die completely, and charge then preferably when they still have 1/3 charge left.

So I got my Amaze on Friday, rooted and installed Energy Rom on Saturday, and phone just died on me on Sunday.
I was in the middle of playing Scramble with Friends and phone froze up on me. I had to take the batter out to reset it since the power button was not responsive. After I pulled the battery and put it back in, the phone would turn on.
So i read and read and found out people usually bought new batteries since the most likely culprit was a dead battery. I have a friend with the same phone and tried his battery. I saw the HTC Logo come on for a brief second and then that was it, nothing else. Phone died again and did not turn on (under his batter). I recharged my battery in his phone and tried that as well, but no luck.
Any ideas what went wrong and what I can do to fix this?
The phone is completely dead and not turning on. So that means I can't get into bootloader and recovery.

Unlocked Bootloader
TWRP recovery

Any incite on this would be great. Thanks in advance!
Plug it in to the wall charger for 30-45min. Unplug and pull battery again. Put battery back in and you should be good...
Don't be alarmed if the orange led light flashes... It's normal when the phone dies. Be happy you're using twrp and not an old recovery that doesn't have charging while off

Thanks, i actually read those threads before i posted. I think there are more threads about that but i tried all options and none seemed to work. I will try plugging it in the wall and pulling battery out but the battery is at a 100% charge right now (i can confirm from a friends phone). However, if its just a glitch, then i will try the wall charger trick.
Thanks.

Thanks - tried the battery solution but unfortunately it didn't work out for me. Phone just refuses to power up.
Assuming its an official brick.
i have a similar problem, well my battery had charged and running fine for several months, so i unplugged the battery to put my sim on it, and plug it back in when it was booting up it froze on the boot logo, so i took off the battery again so i can reboot it
and ever since it wont come back on, wont either go to the bootloader, so i let it charged all night and nothing happen no led blinking or on, so got my friends amaze's battery to test and it would not do anything at either, right now i am waiting for my replacement, but i hate the fact that this had happen to me
oh wow - well i ordered a replacement as well. I really hope it doesn't come down to a software issue and they don't end up covering the device since it has been rooted.
If the phone is completely dead and non-booting, there's no way for T-Mobile to determine if it's rooted or not. Only until it gets back to HTC to be refurbished could they (HTC) find out but at that point it won't matter to anyone anyhow.
And it couldn't possibly be a software issue. There's something physically defective inside the device that caused it to die.
htc amaze 4g refuse to turn on.
hi all, i'm a newbie here, though i have always loved the XDA. I unlocked my bootloader last night, downloaded and reinstalled my fav apps since i didnt do a backup. while i was downloading the XDA app, my fone freezed and eventually went off. When i tried to get it back on, it got stuck on the white htc screen and later went off after some seconds. It has refused to come on till the time of this post. i really need urgent advice.
I was yet to install a recovery software before the tragedy occurred.
Hey guys,
So I've had my DNA for almost 1 1/2 years, and just recently decided to root and flash CM 11 and CWM recovery onto it. Now, everything went fine, except a month later, I was listing to music on Pandora, and my phone crashed (it has a few times before since it wasn't a stable release, but always boots back up in like 5 mins), but this time it never booted back up. I let it sit in the charger over night, but got nothing, not even an orange light. So I decided that, since it was broken anyways, to go ahead and take the entire phone apart and reassemble it. And after the second time, it turned back on (by plugging it into my computer at the same time of holing down the power button). But an hour later, the battery died, and I couldn't get to the charger in time, so it shut off. Now, I've tried everything that I have before, and also took it to a repair shop, but never got any life out of it again. Does anyone have any ideas about whats wrong? Is it fixable? I've also herd of a type of USB jig for Samsung phones that can put an unresponsive phone into 'download mode', is there some kind of equivalent of that for the DNA? Any help is appreciated!
Thanks!

Hey guys,
So I've had my DNA for almost 1 1/2 years, and just recently decided to root and flash CM 11 and CWM recovery onto it. It's your recovery. Try the most recent twrp instead. I've had this issue with my rezound and DNA and it's scary for sure. If you find a way to power on your device immediately change recoveries. Some are touchy on charging a dead phone.

Would maybe trying to charge the battery outside of the phone work? If so, how would I go about that? A friend of mine has a Lipo charger for RC cars, could I make some kind of jig to charge the DNA's battery with that?
EDIT: Found out he has a supper high end lipo charger that is programmable, so could I charge it with that if I can get the battery hooked up right?

You could to irreversible damage to the battery if you do the settings wrong, or hook it up incorrectly. You can get a replacement battery online for pretty cheap. I suggest that than possibly having a small explosion from charging a battery in a way not suggested. After you get the phone back on, immediately fastboot flash a different recovery as @iHateWebOS said.
New batteries come half charged (40-60%) out of the box as that is the suggested storage capacity for batteries to ensure long shelf life.

Okay, just ordered a new battery, should be here between the 10th and the 20th. Hopefully this works
HOLY ****, IT WORKED!!!!!! My DNA booted!!! Thanks so much guys!!!! Which recovery would you guys recommend?
EDIT: So I flashed on twrp, and it won't charge with the original battery in it, so does that mean if the new battery dies, my phone won't boot again? If so, which recovery should I flash to prevent that?
Okay, update. So I tried updating my DNA to the latest snapshot of Cyanogen mod (was at m6, going to m11), and the recovery failed, so now I'm soft-bricked... I'm trying to flash on the old m6 snapshot I have on it, but it keeps failing. Also, the recovery won' t support external storage, so I can't flash on m11 from my flash drive... What should I do?
EDIT: Okay, just found out that I was running the 2.4 beta of twrp, so I'm trying the latest 2.8.0.2, Ima see if that does anything
EDIT: YAY, flashing the latest recovery worked!! so now everything is working properly, except the digitizer, since I ripped the ribbon cable a little, but I already ordered a new one
Okay, so I accidentally let the battery drain, and now I'm at square 1 again. Does anyone have the pin-out schematics for the battery on the DNA so I can make a jig to charge it?
Thanks!
Hey guys,
unfortunately my 3-year old Razr died the other day. Battery has been an issue for the past few months where I had the battery completely drained 2 times but always got the device back to work. This time it's different though.
I shut down the Phone at aprox. 20% Battery to safe it from low charge. I have NEVER flashed a custom rom, the phone is purely stock. The phone wouldn't turn on the next time i tried. Initially , I had zero reaction. Then, I got at least the white LED when charging with the original adapter. Let it charge a few days. The white light would turn off after a few hours but the phone is still dead.
I replaced the battery with another (new) EB20 but still nothing. I bought a wall charger (1A) and still nothing. I even tried direct charging the battery for a few hours and still no effect. Also, every combination of Power+Volume buttons didnt work.
So i bought a factory cable but still didnt get any reaction. When hooked up to a computer via USB i have a "connecting" and "disconnecting" sound. Once the device was detected as OMAP 3340 but couldnt install it. The problem is that I dont even get the phone into fastboot mode.
On my research, I found these posts:

I think this will be my last try and option, but i have no experience whatsoever with flashing and I find the description very hard to understand and follow. Is there maybe someone who can explain step by step what there is to install/do and in what order? This would be awesome.
Greets,
razore
