My wife's stock S4 took the MI1 update and now is having some issues. Her battery is draining a lot faster now, I told her to give her phone time to adjust to the new software, but she's not one to be patient. I checked her battery usage, and Google Services and Android System were both rather high. Also it is charging very slow, like only 15-20% over an hour. Any ideas?

Your advice to here is correct. Give it some time for the batterystats to be regenerated.
FWIW I've upgraded to MI1 and have seen no difference in battery drain.

I would see if location services are on, thats usually a culprit of battery drain.

This might sound silly but has she rebooted since the update? The batterystats get reset on each reboot.

Hey guys, I have no idea what's happening, but this has been going on for a while. I have an unlocked galaxy s ii, and I love it, but lately the battery drain has been unbearable. If I just play a video on it I can probably get 5 hours of screen on time, which seems pretty good to me, but if its sitting in my pocket the battery just keeps going down. Once it went down 8 percent in five minutes doing absolutely nothing. Facebook also takes away way too much battery. Could someone recommend some apps to monitor battery usage and possibly tell me what to do? Thanks

Since the JB update I have been trying to narrow down the culprit in battery drain that has cropped up. Going through better battery stats there was never a definitive clue as to the cause.
Tonight my phone has been off charge 3 hours and its drained 10% in battery sat on a shelf doing nothing, simply because WIFI was enabled.
One of the stand out features of this device was decent battery life up against comparable handsets, now that's been taken away from a shocking firmware update i'm considering jumping ship.
Has anyone else found any means of fixing this yet? Or just a case of waiting for Samsung?

Theres some threads talking about this.
I don´t feel that.I´ m on LJ5 build and sincethe LJ builds I´m very happy with battery drain, even sometimes I get 5 hours screen on with wifi on.
Maybe you update your phone from ICS and don´t wyped your data or made a fresh install. Try to do so and you should be happy again.
It's probably due to a dirty WiFi network that's smashing a bunch of multicast packets. Pretty much all the custom kernels available now have a patch to ignore multicast when screen off; otherwise you'll just have to wait for Samsung to realise they did something silly (read: never)

That makes sense. Always the same with Samsung, takes them an age to get a new software update out and when they finally do it always comes at a cost.
My battery drain is less after settings in advanced to always on and changing the location settings and turning off notifications in some apps and also in play store.
Also in maps automatically update your location might be a battery drain.
I've got a lot of battery drain with wifi on, too. Last night, my battery dropped from 29% to 0% (in 5-6 hours) with wifi on. I woke up to find that my battery had been depleted. UGH!
Must check what is draining your battery. I don t experience that... so far and from many android devices I ve the s3 is by far the battery frindly I have.
I i ve s2 and xperia neo dayly use and I'm happy. I use also some dirty wifi networks and don't have problems at all.

it's a known issue on latest JB rlses. Whats funny is that :
-The leaks did not have the wifi battery drain
- The wifi drains more Battery battery than 3G. I can have 3G on all the time the phone last up to 1d10hrs with 2hrs screen time
I'm on the leaked version. But on lj5 I didn't experience that so far.

Iv had my galaxy s3 for 5 months now and i dont know if its just the Jellybean update but the battery drain when having wifi on is really bad im lucky to get 1 days usage with the phone , i got my google nexus4 yesterday and iv used wifi and data for most of the day and im now in day 2 my battery is at 44% and both batteries are same 2100mah
think im gonna sell my GS3 as the google nexus4 is so much better with battery , but before i do i will reflash stock jellybean on GS3 without root and run them both side by side to compare results , but so far GS3 battery is real bad for drain if i install juice defender on Nexus4 im sure i would get between 2-3 days usage with moderate usage
i will run my tests on both phones side by side with and without juice defender and try to show
I have had the same issue. Though the battery drain is not drastic, it certainly is more compared to ics. If you require better battery life then go back to ics and flash Aosp/Aokp roms

Hi All,
The battery on my Galaxy S3 is not charging fully even when on charge all night (it will get to about 70 - 75%) in 10 hours of charging.
During the day, when not on charge, the battery drops like a stone, as you can see in the below screenshots.
I think this started happening when I updated the Samsung firmware to 4.3, but can't be 100% sure. I have tried a tip I found about turning off email sync, but with no change.
Can anyone offer me any help with this?
Cheers

Well .. how old is your device?? coz a battery is not going to last forever .... may be it has lived up its life...
coz i have updated to Stock 4.3 firmware as well and my S3 is around 18months old ... but i am getting an average battery life ...
Thanks

It is about 18 months old. Could be the battery, but I would expect it to last a bit longer than this. It didn't slowly lose charge, it just started dropping very quickly one day.

May be then you can try some other Modified 4.3 Stock roms (like NeatRom, ArchiDroid's Rom etc.) to see what battery performance you get ...
And if you still have the same problem ... the only way to make sure is to buy a new one ...
Thanks
That's horrible. Did you perform a clean wipe after upgrading to 4.3? If you didn't, I suggest you to.
If your device is rooted i highly recommend you to get Boeffla Kernel and It's Boeffla Config application from Play Store and from the configuration app set the AC current to a higher number and enable ignore safety margin.

Faced this issue. Kept losing 10-15% per hour. Changed roms and still had this issue occasionally.
Problem was the battery. Changed it and no issues so far.
A lot of people use the phone for games, movies etc while charging and this shortens the life-span a lot.

Just curious to see what the battery life is for everyone who has upgraded to lollipop either by VZW OTA or through JASMINEROM stock 5.0/5.0.1 rooted.
Battery Life is terrible for me on the lollipop 5.0, hardly comes for about 10 hours.
I think we need the next update immediately...
1.5 hours off the charger. On the phone for an hour, battery says I only have 7 hours left
maybe your issue too?
so im new to the note 3, my boss gave me one which is a huge upgrade over my old razr hd (i do miss unlocked bootloader though). anyways i noticed the phone sucked the battery dead pretty quickly but assumed it was bc of the big screen. one thing annoyed me, it constantly said searching using gps in the notification panel. after doing some searching i found that if i turned off the weather widget on the lockscreen (setting->lockscreen->additional information-> uncheck weather) that it stopped searching for gps all the time, giving me annoying notifications about it every 3 secs and my battery life was greatly improved. hope this helps someone

Don't forget to use the app greenify. It can really help with battery life.
I personally did a factory restore after the update. I have had over three hours screen on time with little mods like disabling apps/bloat and also disabling things like quick glance and such. I am even using bluetooth with my pebble watch. coming from an LG G2 with a 3000mah battery and smaller screen this is awesome. The lollipop update was terrible on the G2

I went from being 8 hours off charge to completely dead regardless of use pre-LP to ~20 hours with typical use post-LP. Stock battery and no changes made.
I think i had 12 hours with 8 hours screen on time the other day
About the same, 2 days of use with ~8 hours screen time.
No problems here
I *was* initially having problems since I kept leaving certain settings on unnecessarily. I like to crank up the brightness when I'm near a charger at home or in the car so that I can easily see the screen and basically ooh-and-ahh myself with a showroom look. Leaving it all the way up all day was curtains for the battery life obviously, and that's just me. People truly mindful of getting mileage out of the battery are no doubt more careful.
What has helped is that I try to be mindful of what settings I have enabled, and have gotten stellar performance after a day or two of receiving the update. I find that it's a matter of making sure WiFi is off if you're not on a network. I keep my screen brightness on "Auto," and can live with the slower performance when in power saving mode. Sucks not having root and UPSM anymore, but I can live since I rarely made it down to 20% battery life before anyway.
Your mileage may vary with the Sync setting since if it has trouble getting signal, it may get stuck in a loop and chew up battery. I don't know if there are any radio issues caused by 5.0, but I haven't noticed a difference in signal - I get as good of coverage as one can ask for in Central Ohio, and this still seems to be true so far. Anyhow, signal "hunting" has always caused the most trouble for battery life for me on several different devices.
Hope this helps...
Battery life on my mom's Note 3 is pathetic on the Lollipop update. She would go a whole day with about 40% left and now it goes from full to dead in 45 minutes. It's GPS causing the issue. She used to leave GPS on at all times on 4.4.4 back when it lasted a whole day to 40%. Now leaving it on causes the sub-1-hour battery life and with it off it still drains faster, the end of the day leaves her with a mere 20%. The 5.1 update definitely needs to be pushed ASAP.

She wants her weather updates though, it tries to update GPS info literally nonstop so it absolutely kills the battery. I'm going to downgrade her phone back to 4.4.4 for her next time I'm home.

im 90% sure its the weather widget on the lock screen pinging gps, at least it was for me. i even checked my routers log and it was pinging the weather server nonstop too. i would just deactivate it and download another weather lockscreen widget from the playstore. 5.0 is too smooth to downgrade in my opinion

Alright I'm having her try that out to see if she can leave GPS on now, however she's told me about her phone saying she has no signal randomly and that phone calls randomly drop. Sounds like the update has a poor radio firmware too. Anyone else have this problem?

Noticing poor battery life after upgrading to the Jasmine 5.0 ROM. Upgraded to Jasmine 5.02 and now I'm just deciding on when to wipe data and start from scratch.
The highest battery users were all applications, the Android OS and finally the Screen. I believe this clearly suggests that there's a battery drain bug with some of the app restores that were done after upgrading.

Just bought a Samsung S6 Edge, my first venture into samsung devices since before I purchased my first HTC the G1. I have always been an HTC fan but I thought this phone look pretty special and so I took the plunge.
Since then however I have been nothing but disappointed. When I first started to use the phone it was very responsive and the screen and features are very impressive, however my HTC M8 is at the moment considerably faster with Lollipop 5.02 and M9 ported software than my S6 Edge despite having considerably more power. When I open the smart case the screen only turns on for 1 second then turns itself off, the phone is laggy and it can take some apps several seconds to launch. Side by side with my M8 it just isn't coming close using the same setup and the same apps.
After having brushed of the fiasco over the charger of my Samsung Gear Live watch breaking the rear of the watch I am not sure I trust Samsung?
What is wrong with this device??
I came from the HTC One M8 and s6 Edge is faster.
Maybe you got a defective device?
I have no lag at all on mine and I haven't heard anyone complain about lag so far.
Its not laggy, you're laggy!
Mine has been lagging considerably and overheating quite a bit. It's very frustrating. Also, the battery is terrible.

Your issues point to a rouge app. It sounds like the app is sucking CPU time constantly and thus your phone is overheating. This also causes big time lag and battery drain. Get an app like GSAM or Better Battery to see which app is causing the issue and then kill the app!!

Download Better Battery Stats and see what your leading kernel wake lock is. Mine was something no one had heard of and Google had NO info about. It kept my phone awake 60% of the time or more - no amount of flashing stock firmware or factory resetting helped. I had to exchange the device. The wakelock in my case was lli_pm_wlock

Oh wow. I've got the exact same issue. So this is something that can only be remedied by replacement?
Your chart looks crazy. They're ALL at 100%. I'd return it if flashing stock firmware didnt fix it.
Use smart switch to back up your apps and data, then use it to reinstall the firmware. Restore your apps/data and see if you're fixed. You'll be all stock again but its worth a shot before doing the return.
Maybe it's caused by memory link.
I believe all this lagging issue is caused by memory link. My Ram is always on 87% (2.2 GB of Ram) yet i'm not running any app, sometimes i tap and it doesn't respond, then after a couple seconds it responds to all the taps made which drives it nuts. Otherwise, i love it, it's very fast and smooth most of the time. Been a fun of HTC for years, S6 Edge is my first Samsung Phone and i don't regret changing. Hope they fix the few problems some of us got.
