I recently started to mess with android system. I learned how to port ROM's between devices with the same screen size. The problem popped up when I tried to port a NEO V ROM to mini. I got it running, but the screen was was too big for the mini.
Can anyone give me a clue on how to port screen size please?
I've searched google, but no success on porting different screen size ROM's
All app images and framework are of different size. You will have to resize every image. A lot of work.

I advice you to use faststone resizer, instead of resizing image by image..

Thanx for replying!
I'm just starting to understand how android works so any help is welcome
I know how to open apk's and resize images in them. That's no problem.
But as far as I know everything in the framework folder is java .jar?
Any hint on how to to resize framework?
i think u must pm to ExPeacer how to port hdpi to mdpi

you can port mini framework to ported rom.may you change density display to 160?
thanx for helping!
Changed "ro.sf.lcd_density=" from 240 to 160 and it worked alright
Then I replaced hdpi system apk's with the same mdpi system apk's for now. All working ok
As for unique system apk's, I'll resize png files with image scaler.

I'm definitely no dev, but I'll try to put something together for you
It's nothing more than replacing/overwriting files&folders.
This is what worked for me. I'm no expert, I figured this on my own. So it
may or may not be all correct. Feel free to correct me, I'm happy to learn
If you port mini/minipro/live/active, you don't need to replace camera
drivers or bootanim since they have the same cam and bootanim res.
If you're porting NEO ROM, you have to replace camera or it won't work.
These are folder/files you have to copy from mini ROM to ROM you're porting:
in /etc replace:
/firmware folder
ppp folder
wifi folder
sensors.conf
hw_config.sh
pre_hw_config.sh
vold.fstab
in /usr replace:
keychars folder
keylayout folder
[it's for hard and soft keys]
in /system/lib replace:
/hw folder
[contains the files which control the sensors and lights such as GPS and
the accelerometer]
>>>build.prop<<<
You have to change ALL MT11, SK17, ST17 etc. entries to ST15i.
Also replace codenames i.e. mango to smultron.
It's best to have a mini build.prop side by side and just do some
copy/pasting
-------------------NEO V [HDPI to MDPI only]-------------------
-CAMERA driver-
in /usr/semc replace:
camera folder
/lib/
libarccamera.so
libcamera.so
libcameraservice.so
libcamera_client.so
libCaMotion.so
liboemcamera.so
libseccamera.so
libseccameraadaptor.so
Replace bootanimation in /media
>>>APK replace<<<
If porting NEO V to mini (hdpi to mdpi), you have to replace some APK's in
/system/app.
Replace only SAME APK's from mini ROM to NEO V ROM.
That's what I did anyway.
All other apk's you have to resize to mdpi.
You can do it the hard way and resize ALL png's inside the apk's to mdpi.
I just replaced those same files and that's it. I was testing anyway.
If you don't do it, you'll have a hard time with apps since they'll be too
big for mini screen.
Also for HDPI to MDPI, find this line "ro.sf.lcd_density=" and change it
from 240 to 160
Or you'll boot into a seriously wrong sized screen
-------------------NEO V [HDPI to MDPI only]-------------------
That's it!
I hope I haven't forgot something
If you find this useful, I may post it as a thread....
i had also figured out to port roms from MDPI to MDPI but was unable to port from HDPI to MDPI.
Thanks a lot for great info.

I didn't convert at all it would take to long.
I just replaced the apk's with identical, but MDPI sized apk's from another ROM.
Most ROMs have similar sys apps. If not take from two ROMs...

I'm no real dev
I'm just experimenting. So I think you might get much better help from like expeacer or ramezzidane. They're MIUI devs.
Also kamarush seems to be willing to help a lot of folks. So you might ask him too, he's a great dev

Hi!
For now I haven't ideas for what band/images I will add in future so:
Tell me what you want to see
Just install like normal app (after reboot the stock DefaultThemes will be restored so this is temporary method - to see what is the effect) or copy to system/app.
After copying you need to reboot your phone and then choose theme.
If someone will successful use it on Gingerbread please let me know if it work.
GB & ICS themes from post #16...
Pictures and app in attachments.
IF YOU LIKE MY WORK CLICK: THANKS.
bigups man.... i love dis!!! but i too have some Go Launcher themes wish i would like to use with Xperia Stock Launcher. Buddy can yhu make it work please?
I can try make theme for stock launcher and for go launcher... please give me an apk with theme you want to be modded or simply upload pictures and title you want to see. Before midnight I'll upload moded apk if it will be working or give feedback if not.

help me try dis 2 files first please!
Ok.
So firstly: in buildin themes chooser there are no possibility to use icons for menu... Only backgrounds (for now, I'll try to make icons change, maybe add some strings in xml files or must edit smail files (very hard, but possible).

Again!
Want click 'quote'...
This is the apk with first theme, without icons. I thing there will be problem with adding icons to DefaultThemes... To change icons we need modify framework or app that want to have non-stock icons.
I think that 'Glam' has very nice appirience.
Today morning I'll upload next app for you with the second and first theme in one package.
EDIT:
Please tell me what you think about this
There is bug in keyboard in dialer... When uploading morning I'll try to repair it.
Not working brov... download, copy apk file to system/app/, add permission & restart!!!
Don't know why. I install this on my phone - work, copying working too... I will see and try to make it work.
What error you get?? Try to install first... Tell me if instaling of this package is working.
Check one more time permissions... If I can use it without any errors then you can too.
Try redownload apk.
Upload with images so you can see that it works.
Application background in 'old paper' is little edited because the original was to bright and texts was less visible.
which one did yhu upload again brov...?
nice screenies... thanks so much buddy! i copy to system/app, add permission den restart... when i open display- themes, it was blank, nothing shows!
I don't know why it is blank. In my phone you have seen what it's looks like.
Take a look at post #10... There is an app with moded 2 themes. Try to install (not copy) and tell me is there still missing dialpad background.
What is your phone? What system compilation do you use? Place a screenshot with issue you talking about.
I figure out how to ADD (not modify) themes.
Take a look at attachment... There one theme added called 'NEW' (copy of 'Glam' but is more then 7 buildin themes).
i get parsing error while installing....
am using xperia mini pro buddy. what do yhu mean by system compilation?

No issue with keyboard?
If you delete original DefaultThemes.apk from system/app you can install themes (like normal app) and after reboot it will not change to stock.
First backup and then delete. On ICS this is working correctly.
To change icons we need to modify apps... This is a lot of work. In DefaultThemes or ThemeChooser app there are no possibility to add icons change mod or it's very very very hard to do.
When I buy new PC I'll write app (this is a plan ) to change whole UI (backgrounds and icons) for stock.

Please port this theme for ace,its sooo awesome. Before porting pls ask permission from Allen martin..
THANK YOU

You are an idiot. Read the full thread.
Anyone, XBOX360 With me?
since the themer has not allowed anyone to port it,
here is what u can do
download any isc/jb themed custom rom from developers (5830i) section...
download that theme that u mentioned and extract it (theme)..
since most of them are apps, u can use in our phone...
copy those themed apps in your phone (system/app)..
most of them should work
i am sure that systemui.apk and framework-res.apk (framework.jar too, if present and all framework folder apps) will not work and dialer tab activity and contacts apps will not work too (but i am not sure)..
other apps like file manager, music, calender should work..
copy them, place them in system/app set permission and u r done
u can use them in your phone, but cannot post it anywhere..
