Hi,
last night my phone went out of battery and in the morning I put it in charge when I looked back at it was frozen on charging logo(the logo wasn't moving)
I had to take the battery out and after that if I put the battery in early it turns on by itself, If I keep the battery out for a moment and then plug it init keeps being off until turn it on and then freezes with s3 logo.
I tried hard reset it gives me an error of "failed to mount system invalid argument"
My phone is normal s3 I9300 with all automatic updates installed.
I had installed no programs recently just did an update of softwares earlier during the day.
Regards
Reza

this threat is about old androids as far as I know I had the latest firmware released for S3 installed.
any ideas?
Read the faqs and guides or take the phone to a service centre

why olds? As you can read, people even with newest Android version has SDS issue, 'cause newest Android version can't make you safe 100% from SDS because it's hardware issue.

Okay so I've had my s3 for quiet a while but never actually used it properly until today.
First issue was it didn't get past the samsung boot logo, it showed the carriers boot logo( three UK) followed by the samsung one but didn't go any further.
I thought oh crap I guess it's time for a reset. I do the usual factory reset through recovery mode. But noticed that it started saying E:/ removed or something.
Now not only no network carrier to be seen but stuck in samsung i9300 screen. Boot loop.
Next action fire up Odin and see if I can use the (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1646610) to get back and downloaded THREE different firmware as I wasn't sure of which one to download as I couldn't access my settings.
Next thing I know Odin says pass but it is on this constant loop of green android man and samsung!!!
I removed the cable and closed Odin but still stuck on it. I can't access recovery mode only download mode.
What do I do guys?!
P.s all this time I had no root installed
I would suggest warranty claim as you have never rooted i

Hello guys. I need help here.
I had the official ROM 4.1.2 on my I9300 and I realized that sometimes it stuck so I flash Cyanogenmod nightlies and it was ok for about 20 days.
Yesterday it started doing the same thing with bigger frequency so I unrooted it and install stock rom and i format sc card from recovery. The problem persists with stock rom as well. Do you have a solution or any ideas what should i do?
Thanks

I'm currently having the same issue and it's really frustrating, I have it on the Galaxy S3 with 4.2.1 stock rom, I tried factory reset and it would not work, I flashed the phone with a custom rom for Paranoid Android 4.3 and it worked great for about a week, no issues at all, but then it started freezing when locked. I hate this and i'm thinking it might be a hardware issue since I've tried different software versions.
I don't know if it might be an app that might be causing this, basically when i lock the phone the screen turns of but then when i press the power button or the home button to turn on the screen it does not do anything, I know the phone is still on because sometimes if i get a text message i can see the blue led blinking and it will continue to blink even when it's frozen.
Even worst, if i'm listening to music and i lock the phone or if the screen times out and locks when i try to unlock it i can see it's stuck but the music is stil playing....
Also, if the phone is stuck and i try to call it, it will not ring not turn the screen on, it's not like the problem is just the physical buttons, i don't know what to do since the phone is out of warranty, I have never dropped the phone and there is no damage on it, it have never over heat either so i don't know what can i do.....
What you can do is read the faqs and guides first .

As the title says... something majorly messed up on its own. And after getting my phone to boot i find out the imei is reset and i dont even have an efs backup. Cant inject imei as its international version. I do not have any advanced recovery boxes.
At this point I have somehow managed to make Download mode look official:
Custom Binary Download: NO
Custom Binary: Official
System Status: Official.
So I can still claim warranty I guess. So what do I tell the service center? I was updating via Kies and after update the device doesnt have a lockscreen nor can it make calls (noob reason as I cant appear to know what factory mode is). I am downloading Kies to see if I can actually update it officially too.
What happened? Here => http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2208690
Any of you have a better cover up? I know they wont replace my mainboard for free so i have to make them think its their fault. They are not nice people, I have been there before. They love to turn down warranty requests. >.<
My battery was at 1% last night when I woke up and screen was frozen and my phone was hot so I pulled out battery. Let it cool and charge it. Next thing I find out is its just stuck .
That is symptom of sds . Just say you believe it to be the sudden death syndrome and that is not fraud .

I'd go with JJE's story - and you should thank him for it.
But of you need something different, say your phone was constantly crashing, so you did a battery pull. You left it alone for an hour, then charged it up while the phone wasn't booted. Once you had booted it up your IMEI was gone.

Thanks, I have manged to get it to show the emergency screen that say "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Select Recovery mode in Kies and try again". So I am just gonna go there and tell them what you told me except Ill just tell them the phone kept rebooting so I went into recovery and wiped data/reset it. And then it just went into recovery mode and Kies doesnt show any recovery info.
Seems legit?
Hello!
I have a pretty bad situation going on with my phone. A couple of days ago I got a new battery for it off eBay, and I also flashed ParanoidAndroid 3.97. Around this time the phone kept crashing, the screen would freeze and then nothing. I tried doing a factory reset, and this fixed it for a while. Today it froze, so I turned it off, and it wouldn't boot back into android. I reflashed the ROM, and a load of other ones, but it refuses to boot at all. The closest it gets is the "finishing boot" stage of Android is upgrading and then it just reboots. I am now at a loss.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I can provide extra details if you need it.

It's a GT-I9300, I've read everything there is - I know how you guys hate to be bothered by noobs who can't read.

Use the original battery, not ebay one. Flash an official stock 4.1.2 rom then factory reset before booting, check for any error messages in recovery.
If it still freezes before booting finishes then probably needs a new motherboard.
Also, don't pull battery or turn off while it's frozen -it's usually trying to deal with bad memory blocks and should resume if left long enough.

Thanks for the advice. Is it possible that motherboard issues could have been caused by plugging it into my ASUS TF700 wall charger? I can't believe that Samsung would let that be a thing that could damage it and I only did it once but still.
Will try out your tips ASAP
Thanks
George
EDIT: No dice Thanks for trying
No, a charger would not damage the motherboard.
Hello everybody,
I have been browsing the internet and the xda forum for over 2 hours, but I still can't seem to find an answer to fix my problem. I have the Samsung Galaxy SIII GT-I9300 (international version).
My device was rooted over 2 months ago, and since about 3 or 4 weeks I use the stock rom again, but I still have SuperUser. A few times my device was frozen, but generally it works like a charm. Rarely I encounter a bootloop, but it always eventuallly manages to boot correctly. Except for today. I was doing nothing special with my device. It just started to reboot, but became stuck into a bootloop.
I have tried:
- pulling out the battery
- connecting with my PC
- starting download mode
- starting recovery mode
It all won't work. When I start download mode, I get the screen where I should push the volume UP button to continue and DOWN to restart. Pushing the volume UP button does not work, it just starts rebooting again. Also, getting to that screen, connecting with PC and then pushing UP does not work either. Releasing the buttons in different orders does also not work. The same holds for recovery mode; the Team Win logo appears for not even a second, and then my device starts rebooting again. I want to flash another kernel or use samsung kies to intialize software updates/reset (tools), but I just can't get it into download mode.
Moreover, I just noticed that it might also be the power button. I can also get to the continue/restart screen of dowload modus, only holding the home button and the volume down button, without pressing the power button. However, moving it (wricking with a paperclip etc.) does not have any effect on it.
What should I do?
ps: I am sorry if this is in the wrong section of the forum.
pps: I completely pulled out the power on/off button, still no change

Probable sudden death syndrome you need a new motherboard .
Freezing read the freezing sticky .
No download mode worth buying a USB recovery jig before buying a new motherboard .

I already looked in all those posts, but it is not a (half) SDS, as one should then be able to enter download mode, which I clearly can't. If the answer was already on the forum, I think I would already have found it, since I have been searching for hours.
Jep it's the home button. If I slam it towards my desk it sometimes starts (but immediately reboots). Stupid phone :/

It has multiple posts and one guy gave a fix .
I find myself in the same position with my phone. It just boots up to the samsung logo and won't go past it. I tried putting it in download mode, when it takes me there and i press the up vol button it just reboots to the samsung screen, same applies for recovery only that it lasts just a second in recovery mode and reboots again. I have also searched everywhere for the past 24 hrs now with no results.:crying: I was running Archidroids Omni kitkat rom with no problems at all when all of a sudden this happened. Is this a soft or hard brick and is there a solution for this. Any help will be appreciated
Its Up Again!!!!
Well what do you know. My phone started up after 6 days of playing dead. I tried everything in the book to get it to boot up, finally i decided to let it bootloop till it discharged to see if I could just charge it and try getting into download mode. Well after the discharge, plugged in the charger and it just kept blinking the battery icon without indication of charging. Got tired, pulled out the sim and sdcard with intention of taking it in for repairs to see if it was a hardware issue. When i got there was trying to demonstrate the problem, so put in the battery no sim or sdcard and she just booted up.
I have reflashed the rom, just to be sure is not some conflict of some sort and have restarted the phone a couple of times been using it for like the past 4 hours and she is still good.:victory:
