Bear with me as this is a noob question. I am now on stock .532, I want to root but have heard various reports of bugs like sod and ghost touch associating with users who rooted. Is it possible then for me to backup the ROM as it is currently now, then root and if I face any issues restore it to its current state with all my user data and apps data?

I play some games that I cannot backup and have no way of saving the data (Gun Bros) without rooting. I really do not want to lose the time I spent leveling and buying weapons again.
Is there anyway to backup Gun Bros without rooting?
If I do root will I still over OTA updates aka 2.3?
I was not planning on putting a ROM on it just rooting it so I could use titanium backup to back up all of my data, would this cause any problems?
Thanks in advance,
Justin
Rooting wipes your data. At least using the method that's stickied in the dev forum, I'm not sure about other methods.

as stated above, rooting will wipe your phone. you will not receive OTA updates, but the tbolt dev community is growing so when 2.3 leaks, you can bet someone on xda will make it available before verizon does. titanium backup has proly been installed on more rooted devices than any other app (besides maybe clockwork recovery), and i have yet to see a single report of it mucking up a phone. the user can muck up a phone by deleting essential system apps, but that is not the fault of titanium backup
i assure you the benefits of rooting your tbolt far outweigh the inconvenience of restarting a game
Hey guys I was just wondering if there's any way to root without wiping. I have way too many apps (with settings that are too specific and games that I've gone too far in). I'm not that new to the whole rooting thing (I had a rooted Motorola Droid) but any help would be appreciated.
NO... there is absolutely no way
Hmm so is there a way to backup apps (with their settings and everything) so I can restore them after I wipe and root?

I don't think there is a way. Even temp rooted, I couldn't get much of anything to work so I highly doubt Titanium Backup can do anything.
Titanium backup cant do anything without root. Im looking for a way to back everything up? does anyone have a solution? Mostly the cyanogen mod/system settings and installed apps.
Would an SD Card or Flash Drive work for backing up his stuff?
Just curious if the first officially released ICS rom is likely to be a non wipe? From my understanding most of the official roms are non wipe aren't they? But not really confident in this being the case, especially seeing as it will be the first ICS rom from Samsung and they may want it to be a full wipe.
Reason I am asking is because I am considering installing the beta rom XXKP8, reinstalling and setting up all apps from scratch and I don't want to find myself doing this again in what could be only a few weeks on a month....
How well does titanium backup free version work for the upgrade from gingerbread to ics? Is using titanium backup to restore program settings going to work 100% and not cause dramas further down the track or require a fair effort to restore everything to full function?
The biggest difference between pay and free TB is the automated restore process (no user intervention). For user apps I'm sure it'll be 100% compatible given that the app is ICS ready. For system apps, from 4.0 to 4.0 you shouldn't encounter too many difficulties. Whenever I update a base I always check the installed version and backed up version of every system app before I restore. And I only back settings for system apps (don't backup apks).

Thanks. I downloaded titanium backup ages ago but have not wiped for the last 4 updates of rom.... Be good to flush the system clean.
Hey guys,
I've bought a new xperia z2 and Updated it to 4.4.4 but then I realized that root is only possible with a downgrade. So my question is:
Can I backup my data **without** root, downgrsde, root the phone, then go back up to 4.4.4 without a data loss? (Or at least a method with small data loss)
What 'data' do you want to backup? Apps like sms backup+ will backup you messages and call log. Sony has an app that can backup apps and data. Also titanium backup may be able to backup user apps.
Helium is one app that can backup all the data, sony backup sometime misses some app data, but will backup the apps themselves, not much useful in cases where the app is 50MB and then downloads 500MB of data after opening(like some games), helium takes care of that. just take the backup before downgrading, move it to your card or PC, downgrade, root, flash the latest recovery and ROM of your choice, then move the backup to your phone, (doesnt matter internal or external location, helium can select both for restore), and restore, et voila, you have your data. personally checked on games like real racing, poweramp player, messages(but to be sure better use SMS backup+ as suggested by our brother above), and even different browsers. but it does not work on system apps like youtube or chrome. no idea why.
Im just a bit nervous about rooting it as ive read online that Sony have put something in there Xperia models that you have to de-activate (something on there website) But if you do that then your phones warranty is completely void.
Id do it if I knew 100% how to do it and if it was 100% safe, Do you know of any guides for dummies for the 23.0.1.A.0.167 build number? Thanks.

just backup your original firmware before root. if you root your phone you will void warranty but if you re-flash your backed up original firmware then warranty will be back
I haven't updated my phone in a while. I don't get the over the air updates anymore. I saw the new update and thought it was time.. My phone is rooted and I'm running G900tuvu1ane6 and want to update to 6.1 and then root the phone again. Can you let me know if I can do a straight update without messing anything up or do I need to do an incremental update? Also, what is the best way to root the new version. Are there any issues with mm that I should be aware of. Thanks in advance.

No. You can go straight to 6.0.x
Flash twrp flash supersu
Not really. There's been a crap load fixed/improved since KitKat tho lol
Hi!
Yes, you can
You can by using ODIN
Go to sammobile to download the last MM version
Download ODIN (sammobile has a link to ODIN)
The phone will be swiped. You'll lost all data
Fisrt boot can take 8 minutes or more
The root again
So I'm running a backup now with twrp. If my phone gets wiped with this update, what is the best way to save and restore settings like app data and personal info. I think twrp is just for a full backup and restore correct?

You can restore just data with twrp but honestly I highly suggest just starting fresh especially going from KitKat to marshmallow. So much has changed betwen the 2 from dalvik to art, file structure, etc etc. Back up your contacts and just restore them. Download all your apps back log in etc etc. Take you 10 minutes longer and starting completely fresh and clean.

I'm agree
There are a lot of changes from KK to MM.
you can use google backup and restore mechanism to restore some kind of configuration: when you are running first wizard google ask: "restore from previous phone"?
This restores desktop confiig and install your apps you installed from play store
Whatsapp restore automatically from last backup
Call log and SMS can be backup and restore with "SMS backup and restore"

I followed instructions I found in another thread but it didn't wipe the phone completely. Not sure what I did wrong but the phone seems to be working well with the existing apps.

Odin doesn't touch data by its default settings so did nothing wrong
I was trying to remove bloatware and I've been finding threads for other phone's firmware but they have different apps. I've seen some apps that remove bloatware automatically but don't know if I should use one of them or just uninstall apps through titanium backup. If I use titanium have you guys seen a good list for the newest firmware?

Helloooo
I have a galaxy s5 900T, but I am in Europe and I have problems with the mobile network.
Individual network frequencies are unavailable, so I do not have 3G and 4G networks in some places.
I'm thinking to install software from Europe version of s5 900f on my s5 909T but I am not sure is that possible.
Can someone explain to me whether it is possible or why not. For example, CyanogenMod is the same ROM for both models (900F and 900T, and mire else s5 with Qualcomm procesor.
