I currently have 1.25 hboot, and I am aware that to get an ICS ROM, I need to downgrade my phone etc... But I was wondering, if I wan't to change my mind is there a way to revert back to my original hboot (1.25)
Also, if I choose to restore to the stock DX ROM, will it be the ICS or JB version, if ICS should i assume the boot.img will need to be flashed AFTER the rom and that i need to change mountpoints before flashing the rom?
Lastly, if I was to make a mistake or it does not work, will reflashing my JB TWRP recovery and restoring the jb backup file I have work?
I'm sorry for all these questions I colour coded them if too make it easier to track and answer but yeah I will give thanks :good:
Any answers will be helpful btw, they may look a bit stupid but i'm trying

There is no need to downgrade hboot because there is no way to do that currently. You can install ICS ROM on current hboot 1.25 provided that ICS ROM updater-script's mountpoints is correctly done for JB hboot.

Depends on which stock DX ROM. If it is ICS then it is ICS. If it is a JB then it is JB. Always flash the right boot.img for the right ROM type.
If it is a nandroid backup form, no need to change mountpoints.
If it is a flashable zip form, you need to change mountpoints.

Yes provided your jb backup is a working backup.
In any case/scenario described above.. you need to have only JB TWRP recovery installed. You can't use ICS TWRP when your hboot is JB 1.25, it won't work

The hboot will still be 1.25 if you go back to an ICS rom. You still need the recovery for JB or else flashing or restoring will not work, the recovery is changed for the hboot version not the android version

So if the mountpoints are not done for JB do I manually edit the mountpoints by following this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2213663
And if I decide to chose a rom that is based on JB or higher after installing an ICS rom, will I not need to change the mountpoints or anything because that is only needed for downgrading?

If you install a JB rom on hboot 1.25 or higher you don't need to chance anything, you only need to change mountpoints when you are flashing a ICS rom on hboot 1.25 or higher

If you have a gsm phone, u can update via ota to get the latest hboot and firmware, unlock it via htcdev method if required, and then flash a custom rom for example Cool-ICS. It is okay to remain s-on even this way. It is not necessary to update ota as you can also get the zip files for the updates and install it according to a custom rom's requirement.
Cheers.

As someone has asked, are you GSM or CDMA?
You state you have not updated firmware, but are running infected rom, so I am guessing you are referring to having not updated the kernel.
Do you have a recovery like TWRP or EXT4 loaded?
If so are you comfortable with how to flash a rom from the recovery console?
Help us help you.
I am S-On HBoot 1.15.
I had to flash a new boot.img for CM10 Nightlies to work. I understand that I will have to flash a Sense based Rom boot.img to leave CM10.
I want the new radios and kernel from the OTA. What do I do?
I saw pocketables had a way to do it, but I'm not sure this would work for me. Would I just need to flash a Sense boot.img first, go through their method, then flash the CM10 boot.img again and restore my CM10 back up?
Will the new OTA radios and kernel work with CM10 Nightlies?
Help, I am lost...
You may be able to use the Flash Image UI app in Google Play, with the 1.15 hboot. Try that, but play it safe and read up on the best practices to flash new kernels, etc. as you're playing with fire. You can get bricked.

Fastboot is the most reliable method. As always verify the MD5 to avoid problems

HBOOT 1.15 and up do not allow for S-OFF, and HTCDev unlocking still does not allow the flash of new radios and the like. Because of this, taking the new OTA or running a RUU are the only way to update to the newest radio.

That is probably the easiest way to do it. Flash (using fastboot) a sense kernel (boot.img), flash back to sense ROM, take OTA, then flash CM10 kernel and restore CM10 backup.

Radio: Yes. Kernel: No. You want to flash the CM10 kernel back before restoring your CM10 backup. I am running CM10 nightlies with the newest radio and PRI. I flashed them separately since I am S-OFF, and they work fine.

Everyone gets lost at some point. Don't worry about it
I think the only way for s on people to get the new radio is to take the ota.. I recommend NOT doing this. This gives you the new hboot which will make it even less likely that you get s off. You can get the new kernel by fastbooting the boot.img of a Rom based on the new kernel and than flash the Rom in twrp. This is the smartest route in my opinion

Hey guys I rooted this phone almost a year ago and installed a custom rom. I remember the procedure being very different from other phones I have done and very complicated. At the moment I am still "S-on" and running Android Revolution HD 1.1.0 (android 2.3.4)
My goal is to install the newest version of Android Revolution ( looking for a very stable rom, so I'm open to suggestions)
The thread mentions extra steps if you are coming from a non-ics rom.
Also Im considering the Energy rom. (this one does not specify any extra complicated steps)
In the current state that I'm in should I run the all in one s-off tool? do I even need that for these roms? what recovery should I flash? (Im currently on a CW based recovery)
Thanks in advance for all the help.
you should first flash back to stock.... then update to ICS... after that you should once again unlock your bootloader and flash 4ext recovery this time.. but you id really suggest updating to ICS before trying to flash any ICS roms..., specially since your still "S-ON"

To my understanding, flashing back to stock requires the stock recovery and a stock image.
I found the stock image here http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/HTC_Amaze_4G/ROMs#Stock_ROMs
but can somebody help me find a stock recovery?

Relock bootloader. Flash RUU for your carrier in bootloader. There are plenty of threads, and 2 stickies describing this

Which Kernel did you flash??
Your first thing you should do is restore a backup (Which you should always make before doing something dangerous like flashing.... Anything....)
If you don't have a backup, Reflash a rom, Any rom that you know will boot, The most stable closest to stock rom you can. I'm from the CDMA section so I don't know your roms.
If worse comes to worst, Find your correct ruu and flash that, It'll take you to 100% stock, and unroot you, But rooting is easy :silly:

1.53 hboot isnt compatible to all roms (afaik only sense 3/3.6 based roms and the Viper sense 4.1 rom)
U would need to downgrade to 1.49 if u want to flash everything...
Which rom did you flash?

It was yoda kernel if I remember correctly.
You should Definitely grab the stock kernel when in a bad spot, I'd link it, But I don't have a GSM phone, I'm sure you can find it.
Be aware that the newer kernels are just for jelly beans Roms, also are you s-on, if so the kernel is not flashing correctly. I would also suggest updated your recovery to 4ext . If your s-on , 4 ext has smart flash which will flash the kernel correctly

If you really want to install stock ICS RUU, you'll have to downgrade your hboot first (only possible after S-OFF). Easier would be to install an ICS custom ROM and kernel without changing the bootloader.
Is there any tutorial for downgrading and s-off procedure?
Please give me a link if u know of any.
Take a look here... Shouldn't have been hard to find with search...
